Aurelia moves to cell G-5

Aurelia grimaced when Archer attempted to commune with the half-dragon girl and failed to bring her back to her senses. Instead the Cadet was picked up by Silvia, who surprisingly enough had just enough strength for her wings, which were barely arm's length in span, to take flight. Archer was then dropped from several feet up in the air and came crashing into the ground. Aurelia took quick steps toward Archer but stopped just behind Gaiden as he pulled himself off the ground. His wounds didn't appear too deep, and Aurelia lowered her staff, the small amount of light gathering at the tip dissipating. She would hold on to her magical energy for a bit longer, when she can pull her allies back from the brink of despair.

Enemy Phase

The damage dealt to thew half-dragon was great, but Silvia remained standing tall, growling fiercely at her attackers. They were getting closer and closer to defeating her, but there was still yet more trials to go through. Silvia turned her attention to Gaiden, who was still ready to defend for other's sake. She would show him that not even the greatest defender could stand against a dragon's claws.

Silvia jumped at Gaiden, raking her claws against his armor purposefully and forcefully. Twice she shredded her claws against his armor, opening up the hard leather easily, reducing his ability to defend himself. And if he couldn't defend himself, how could he defend others?

Silvia uses Shred and Rake on Gaiden! Reduces target Def by 15%! 11 Atk DMG! 2 hits!

Player Phase

Silvia's claws seemed to be a little more powerful than Gaiden remembered them being. It was like the dragon blood in her body was enraging her, giving her power. That was not a good sign, they had to end this quickly. Gaiden himself was running low on energy, he wouldn't be able to protect the rest of the Guard like he had been doing. They would have to handle themselves. He was glad, though, that it was him taking this kind of shredding damage.

It would be best for him to regain some of his energy, so Gaiden buckled down and steeled himself, ready for any attacks that might come his way while he spent time to catch his breath.

Gaiden waits.

Archer moves to F4.

Seeing that she was still being greatly influenced by the dragon's power, Archer knew further action would need to be taken. She couldn't do this on her own--that much was true. But he knew she could pull through this without receiving too much harm. The captain could handle himself, luckily, so it was good that he was the target of the attacks. Dashing up to Gaiden's side, Archer lunged the blade of his naginata towards Silvia a couple of times--nothing too unbelievably aggressive. His senses were starting to dull slightly due to the effect of his analysis wearing off, melted away by his intense focus on the battle along with the strange emotions swirling about in the core of his being causing him much more distress than he had ever faced. Always being able to kill without batting an eye...this hesitance was greatly foreign to him and he wasn't getting used to it, that was for sure.

Archer attacks Silvia! 2 hits! 8 Dmg per hit! (ATK)

Afraid to say anything with Gaiden so close by, Archer decided to keep his mouth closed, but he kept those eyes of him focused on Silvia's. In the case that she happened to deign to gaze into them, she would see that fire of determination and hope--hope that she would quell the dragon's strength and show it that SHE was in charge. SHE was in control of her own actions and destiny. She had to be strong enough. She just had to...

Leilah attacks Sylvia! 9 Atk Damage!
Remaining EN: 42/50

Leilah pulled away slightly as Silvia dug into Gaiden–whatever it was she did, his defenses seemed just a little less wall-like. But she did not shudder. She merely flipped the dagger and darted back into immediate reach of the halfling, stabbing the girl once more. Cut made, the Nightblade shied away again and settled back into her defensive position. This is taking too long... I hope we can talk some sense into her soon...

Aurelia uses Flash of Light on Gaiden. Hope in Despair increases potency by 25%. 9 HP healed
EN: 52/60

Aurelia bit her lower lip watching the half-dragon strike her captain. The girl seemed to be getting more fierce and aggressive by the second. Her strikes seemed to be getting more and more vicious, which becomes an even bigger problem when a part of Gaiden's armor was ripped open. It was only a small tear but it would be enough to make a difference. They couldn't keep fighting for much longer, her healing wouldn't be enough to keep the party alive forever against Silvia's claws. With a flash of light enveloping Gaiden and mending some of his wounds Aurelia prayed for the battle to be over soon.

Enemy Phase

A sinister hissing came from Silvia's mouth, her eyes glaring daggers at the ones attacking her. However, her dangerous red eyes seemed to grow paler and hazed over, as if she was beginning to lose the ability to see. The Guard couldn't possibly know what happens to dragons as they grow weaker, but could blindness really be one of those happenings? The half-dragon's sight may have been slightly impaired now, but she seemed to have absolutely no trouble sniffing out the thief.

Silvia raised her fearsome claws and grabbed Leilah's shoulder powerfully, her claws digging into her arm. She swooped her head down by the woman's neck and sunk her fangs into her skin, easily piercing through the cloth that protected the woman. Silvia ripped her head away from Leilah, dragging a trail of blood and flesh with her.

Player Phase

This was becoming a problem. Gaiden knew the strength of the dragons was legendary, but for a half-dragon's power to be this great? If there was just one of the members of the Guard missing right now, there would be no winning this fight. Silvia's dragon blood was incredibly strong, there is no doubt about that. Still, Gaiden saw the opportunity now. Although Leilah was bleeding and weakened, he knew that there was a certain switch that turned on whenever that woman was put into a dangerous situation.

"Do not falter! Victory is in sight! Men, unleash your power and do not fear, I will protect you!" Gaiden roared, his voice strong and resolute as he crushed the very ground with his feet, once again becoming an impenetrable guardian. Silvia was close to being put down. It was a shame to kill her, but perhaps her dragon blood would spare her life in the end.

Leilah had not been prepared enough––at least for her liking––to dodge the halfling's counterattack. The woman's claws dug deep into her skin, a harsh stinging following their touch as blood spilled. But she did not say a word, nor did she cry; no utterance of any kind fell from her cloth covered lips. The Nightblade merely reaffirmed her stance, fighting her now screaming wounds as she sought out another weak point.

Her vision seemed clearer now––a gift of the Gods perhaps. On the brink of death she saw everything a little more precisely. Exactly what the Guard needed at a time like this: some kind of advantage. With her improved sight, Leilah could see Silvia's breathing had begun to shake just a little. And her eyes... whatever was going on, the girl could not have much more fight left in her. Make this next strike count... she commanded mentally, racing into the halfling's immediate range once more and landing a (hopefully) critical strike on the woman.

Leilah attacks Silvia! 9 Atk Damage!
Remaining EN: 36/50

Pulling away, however, proved more difficult than the Nightblade could have anticipated. It was painfully obvious that she needed to retreat, for her grace had fled her figure. She swayed slightly as she attempted to reestablish her positioning, shaking her head moments later. To stay where she was would mean a certain counterattack from the dragonchild––imminent death surely. With that in mind she forced herself over to Gaiden's side. He could handle the girl's attacks much more efficiently than she ever would.

Leilah moves to F6!

"ENOUGH!!"

The shout resounded quite loudly over the sounds of battle that were taking place. Archer had jammed one blade of his naginata easily into the ground and gripped the handle tightly, his body quivering. He had gone along with this brutish plan for far too long. Now was the time to stand up once more, but this time, he knew--Silvia would not falter any longer. "Protect us from what?! Our ally? Our...our friend!" he shouted with an unrivaled resolve, the likes of which surprised even them. Never before had he felt so passionate about something. The silent, stoic killer always following orders and going along with what his admirable captain deigned--it ended now. Always would he remain loyal to Gaiden, but his orders this time around were ones he could not agree with. Subduing Silvia...how would that make her feel? It wasn't right. She needed to break free of this herself; it was important, at least to Archer.

"Silvia! I already know you're there. Watching. Trapped within that power," the cadet called out to the dragon woman who appeared so intent on tearing them apart. But he knew the soul within wouldn't wish harm upon them. Now if only that willpower could be exerted. "The dragon might have strength, but we as humans have heart! We are able to do and understand so much not just because of the mind, but because of the nature of our most vital organ. The care and consideration and emotion that courses through us as quickly and warmly as our very blood, and it is just as thick. Just as significant. THAT is our power. Being the kind person that you are, you can break through this!! Think of us, your friends! We might not know each other well...but without a future, how will we ever? How will we ever get to know each other?!" Archer found his free hand clenching into a fist. What was he even saying? His heart was racing quickly. Was it his words that made him flush? Or fear that he'd get ripped apart.

No. Archer knew no fear. If his life was to end now, then so be it. In the end, his duty was to protect or die trying. Now, he was trying to save not only Silvia's body, but her heart as well.

Archer uses Trigger Command: Call Out To on Silvia!

Gaiden becomes the Protector!

Leilah strikes with the unmatched accuracy of an Assassin's Blade!

Silvia takes 14 DMG! CRITICAL HIT!! (Leilah)

Archer speaks to the heart of Silvia!

Enemy Phase

Silvia, the half-dragon, stopped moving when Archer shouted. Her ears twitches slightly and she let out a low hiss from deep in her throat. Red eyes watched him carefully, half-blinded by her waning life force. Inside the body of the half-dragon, Silvia, the real Silvia, the Silvia they knew, watched with tears in her eyes. Her heart knew she could still fight, and she yearned to return herself to normal.

Silvia felt a sudden rage well up inside of her. A rage much stronger than she felt before, the dragon blood was getting angrier. This pattern of energy was something Silvia recognized, it was a power similar to what had happened earlier, when she unleashed that terrible fire. If they got hit with this fire...there was no telling what would happen. Silvia had to stop it. She had to.

Silvia's hands reached up and grasped the horns on her head. She gave off an expression of confusion, shock, and pain. A low growl formed in her throat, but did not escape. With her hands, Silvia forced her head to face the ground, pulling her horns. This was about the only thing that she could do to protect the Guard, her friends, from the fire that was already beginning to escape her mouth. The tongues of the fire from her belly leaked out from her dark red lips and onto the ground, where the spluttered and lost their life. Then, with an almighty belch, Silvia coughed out a spurt of fire and a small, red jewel fell out of her mouth and onto the ground, where it shimmered in an iridescent color. A second later, Silvia's body fell to the ground, where she lay motionless.

Adventures of Naletia: The Second Dragon War - Page 4 Empty Re: Adventures of Naletia: The Second Dragon War

Gaiden was shocked. He couldn't help it either, when your subordinate vehemently disagrees with his superior, it usually results in punishment. But Gaiden could never punish Archer for speaking out against him. He was too valuable. As an asset to the Royal Guard, and a friend. He was still young, so his ideals may not be quite as rock solid as Gaiden's own, so he could not blame Archer for his emotions. Still, Gaiden believed that what he was trying to do was the right thing to do, nothing would change that. Protecting his comrades from a menace, a true menace to their world, was what he lived and would die for. Silvia was a menace, so he would protect his Guard as much as he could.

Gaiden knew the hearts of young people were what helped lead their great nation of Ermith live and prosper, especially in times of strife and war. The foundation of Ermith's growth was built around education and the arts. The people must be free, and that is how revolutionaries are created. And, just as Gaiden suspected, Archer was one of those revolutionaries. Silvia fell to the ground, unconscious, because she found the will to defeat her inner dragon.

Gaiden would have to apologize to Archer for his words from before. For now, they would do well in gathering Silvia up and taking her to the castle doctors. After that...perhaps the Sage could shed some light on Silvia's condition.

Without a word, Gaiden gathered up Silvia's body, which he noticed was incredibly warm to the touch. The dragon's blood was still flowing through her, but he sensed no malice within the small frame. When Gaiden lifted Silvia, he noticed a small, iridescent red jewel on the ground. He carefully lifted it up with a spare hand and pocketed the thing. It had to have some significance.

"I will take Silvia to the castle and put her in the care of the doctors," Gaiden said to his men, his eyes watching mostly Archer. "I expect you all to go and meet with the king now. I will join you shortly. Am I understood?" Nodding to his men, knowing that they would understand his meaning, Gaiden left for the castle in a brisk run. He could spare no time in handing Silvia over to the doctors, her life force, though strong, was still waning.

~-~

Darkness.

That was the only thing I could see. Nothing but darkness. I felt like the world around me didn't exist, but I felt a heavy pressure on my chest. Memories flashed through my head, going by too quickly to actually see what they were. I saw glimpses of my father. Our old home. The farm. The huge dragon that attacked our little village. I saw Gaiden and Archer's faces. Then, I saw a face which I didn't recognize.

Well, that isn't completely true. It looked like my face, but those red eyes and black hair definitely weren't mine. She also looked older, more wrinkled near the eyes and mouth. Her lips were thin and pale too, while mine was a much darker pink. Before I could pinpoint who it could have been, the face disappeared, and I heard a voice above me.

Slowly, my muscles began to regain their feeling, and I felt the pressure from my chest lift just a little bit. I could tell my senses were dulled, because my head felt agitated. I was never a good fit for medicines, the more expensive, the bigger the headache. I tried lifting my hands, but that wasn't possible. Either they were being held down, or I had no feeling in them. I couldn't tell which.

And honestly? I just wanted more sleep. Eventually, I drifted back into the darkness, for some reason a little more comfortable than before.

"The King will see you now," the palace guard spoke to the Royal Guard, maintaining his position at the double doors to the inner throne room. The large, ivory double doors opened slowly inwards, revealing the crisp red carpet that led straight up to the throne. Black marble bricks made the foundation of the floor around them, and white marble made the foundation of the throne. Atop the white marble sat a extravagant chair made of gold and silver metals, encrusted with rubies, sapphires, and amethysts. Large, emerald banners hung from the lofty ceiling with the crest of Ermith stamped upon them.

Sitting on the throne was none other than the King of Ermith himself. By noble birthright, King Sigmund IV inherited the throne from his late father and elder brother. The people know him as a kind king, but also a king who does not tolerate disrespect or those who defy the law. His solid countenance and body posture gave off a stern look to his rigid and rough form, but it was his eyes, his dark, black eyes, that seemed to penetrate the soul of whomever he deigned to gaze upon. Wearing festive emerald colors and a gold crown encrusted with rubies, sapphires, and amethysts, King Sigmund observed the Guard approach him, Gaiden still not in their midst.

One thing was different about the throne room this particular day, in that it held an extra body. It was of the king's first and only child, his daughter Irma. The whole of the court loved to gossip about Irma, how she was the next Sage in the making. And Irma would be the true Sage who would adopt the powers of both the Sage of Light and Dark from past generations. The line was said to have ended when Hikari Kizuna gave her life to merge the Light and Shadow realms together, but both sides were very much alive in Irma. You could see it in her beautiful, silky white hair and dark, black eyes. She wore a dress of intertwining black and white colors that accentuated her girly figure.

The king rose from his throne, taking only a single step from the chair which the whole of Ermith knew he hated so much, and he spoke to the Guard present. "I welcome you home, my noble warriors. Tell me of what has transpired in my city and why Lord Gaiden is not with you." It was common knowledge that the Captain of the Guard also held the noble ranking of Lord in the King's Court. A title that allowed Gaiden to give orders to everyone in the castle, excluding other Lords and the King and his daughter.

Adventures of Naletia: The Second Dragon War - Page 4 Empty Re: Adventures of Naletia: The Second Dragon War

Silvia had done it. Archer didn't know why he felt so surprised when the heat from her fiery breath attack dissipated after hitting the ground. The tension had faded completely and the cadet stood there watching as Silvia fell, his mouth agape, form unbelievably still as a gentle breeze decided to grace the group its refreshing coolness, but it was short-lived. Letting out a long sigh, Archer realized he was tired. Adrenaline was wearing off and the pain from his wounds was starting to become unbearable. He clutched at the areas that had been bleeding before, but luckily had clotted before anything serious happened. Even still, he felt a bit light-headed and leaned against his naginata for support as he noted Gaiden's movement out of the corner of his eye. The large man scooped Silvia up and proclaimed that he was going to take her to the doctors in the castle which was for the best. Archer nodded in understanding at the new order to report to the king and let him know what had happened.

The trip to the castle was rather silent, and Archer was definitely lost in thought. His faith in Silvia had definitely been genuine, but to think that she did manage to triumph over the might of the dragon within was incredible--almost unbelievable. As small of a victory as it was, it was still a victory nonetheless. There was even more hope now. Though Archer felt he himself was hopeless. Letting emotions get the best of him and disobeying orders. As right as his actions were, he couldn't let things like sentiment get in the way of his job and the fights that were pretty much requirements. They were life and death instances in all cases, no matter how highly or lowly skilled the particular enemies were. There was always that chance that he or any of his other fellow Guard members...would die. That's why he had to keep his mind clear. It was this that he tried to achieve until he realized they were being let into the throne room where the king would be waiting for them.

The room was as beautiful as it always was, and the king cut an impressive figure upon the throne, no matter how much he despised the literal seat of power. Bowing before the king, Archer deigned to give the report. "The Guard was on patrol earlier when we crossed trouble--a bunch of thieves robbing a young girl of her blade. Interfering immediately, we were able to stop the assault on the girl but could not retrieve the item. Tracking the thief that stole it led us to quite the nest of them. There, we were able to subdue them quickly and retrieve the stolen item--a rather legendary sword. Giving it back to the girl seemed to yield terrible results as she took on a half-dragon transformation and assaulted the Guard. We defended ourselves against her relentless might until we were able to talk her down and she broke free of the power of the dragon of her own accord." Here, he paused and looked the king in the eyes. Hopefully there would be no understandings; Archer tried to be as right to the point as possible. "It was then that Captain Gaiden whisked the girl away to the castle in order to seek medical attention." Report stated, he bowed only his head this time in respect, allowing the king time to mull over the situation, or to give his allies time to add in any tidbit details he might have missed.

The King absorbed the information Archer gave in his report like a sponge. He was always extremely intelligent and quick to respond to adversity, but this time, he stayed quiet for much longer than anticipated. Even his daughter slid her gaze over to her father, wondering what he was going to say about Archer's report. Just when it appeared that the King was about to respond, Gaiden entered through the double doors and approached them.

"Gaiden, you have arrived," the King said with a smile, opening his arms as if to embrace Gaiden's presence in his midst. "Your young subordinate here has told me something quite troubling. Is it true that there is a half-dragon in our halls?"

"Yes, my liege," Gaiden responded quickly and properly, bowing his head and crossing his arm across his chest as a sign of respect. "I have handed her over to the doctors to receive medical attention. I do not believe her to be a threat to us at this time." The King watched Gaiden rejoin his Guard and saw that he was rather particular about Archer. It was as if Gaiden had something else to say, though not necessarily to the King.

King Sigmund beckoned for his daughter, who approached him cautiously. The King was never one to give any special privileges and expected the highest respect from all of his subjects, including his own blood. In return, he gave his wholesome respect to those whom he ruled over. "Go to the medical wing, Irma, and when the doctors have finished treating this...half-dragon, instruct them that she is to be placed in the dungeon." The King's daughter left that instant, and it was only after she was out of sight that Gaiden dared speak up.

"King Sigmund?" Gaiden inquired, his brow furrowed from the King's order.

"This is for the protection of my city, Gaiden," the King responded sternly, his gaze unfaltering as he watched the Guard from his position. "I have heard from the city folk that there was a large amount of fire and destruction earlier. I can only assume that this half-dragon is the one who created this fire. I cannot have something like that terrorizing my palace. The girl will remain in the dungeon until we are certain that she is no threat to us."

Gaiden hesitated, knowing that if he spoke out against the king, he would also be punished. This was for the protection of the city, that is what the king said. And since it was for the city, no one here could change his decision. They would have to convince the King that Silvia was not dangerous to them anymore, but the only one who could do that was...

"Call the Sage, Your Highness," Gaiden suggested carefully, making sure what he said would not seem like an order. "Surely she can divine Silvia's condition."

"Silvia?" The King seemed hooked on that name more than Gaiden's suggestion. "Where do I know that name?"

"You would know that name, it is the name of that man's daughter," Gaiden replied softly, with a strong emphasis near the end of his statement.

"I see," the King pondered for a second, "in that case, seek out the Witch Sage. You should be able to find her by the Forge beneath the palace."

"Yessir." Gaiden bowed to his King, and turned to the Guard. "Come, we must make haste to the Sage. Silvia will likely be in the dungeons now, the doctors here work quickly." Knowing that some of his men must be dying to speak up against the King's orders, Gaiden made a point to hurry them out of the throne room before one of them decided to get impatient.

Upon reaching the dungeons, it was simple to find the cell that Silvia was placed in. Not just because the layout of the dungeon had each cell facing the entrance, but also because a woman was standing nearby the cell, looking inwards. From the angle, the shape of her face was unknown, but the Guard could tell that she was an incredible beauty. She wore an all-black, long dress that sat perfectly on the ground, so her every movement would make her seem like she was floating rather than walking. The woman was of rather short stature, shorter than Silvia, and much thinner than the farmer girl's medium weight. Her skin was a creamy white, which brought some color to her form, as her long, pitch-black hair seemed to blot out her existence. On the ring finger of her left hand, a small ring could be seen glittering in the torchlight, a small jewel that changed color extremely rapidly. The woman, known as the Witch Sage, was known to be married, though no one had ever seen the man behind the mysterious woman.

As the Guard entered, the woman made no motion to alert them that she knew they were there. Instead, she spoke up immediately as Gaiden attempted to step forward. "Do not move," she spoke coldly and with incredible authority. Startled into compliance, Gaiden could only wait for the woman to continue. It seemed to take years for her to even twitch, though, and Gaiden was becoming impatient, which was unlike him.

Finally, the woman turned around, showing her face to them. Amethyst eyes grazed over them, but seemed to pass right through as if the Guard wasn't even there. Her small stature seemed to be accented by an even smaller, angled face, but her dark beauty was very clear. "It is dangerous to be too close to me when I am divining a soul. It is finished now, you may approach."

"I know why you are here. The divination is finished. But I will not answer your questions," the Sage told them, the jewel on her ring now just as pale blue as the moon, rather than the multitude of colors it was before. The ones in the Guard able to sense magic could tell that an extremely powerful magical energy was being used through that ring.

Adventures of Naletia: The Second Dragon War - Page 4 Empty Re: Adventures of Naletia: The Second Dragon War

Leilah had stood silently, allowing Archer to speak to the King as she was not exactly the talkative type. When Gaiden arrived, she shifted slightly, but also did not say anything despite finding the King's actions worth debating. The girl, Silvia, had clearly shown some sort of control over the power bubbling within her. If she hadn't had even that tiny sliver of discipline, the guard would not have returned to his majesty. They, and the rest of his city, would have been slaughtered. But Gaiden made the decision for the Guard to visit the Sage before she could make any such remark, and so she simply followed her captain.

When the group reached the dungeons, they found who they had expected to. The Sage kept them at a distance for awhile before allowing them to step close. The Nightblade tilted her head slightly as she announced that she would not answer any questions, but that her job was complete. It was an odd statement, but not one without point. The Sage need not explain to the Guard, but to his majesty. "It is not our questions that need answering, but his highness." Her voice was as smooth and quiet as always.

Adventures of Naletia: The Second Dragon War - Page 4 Empty Re: Adventures of Naletia: The Second Dragon War

Archer turned to see what had suddenly garnered the king's attention only to realize that it was Gaiden returning at long last. The cadet never received a proper response from the king, but listening to the conversation between him and the captain of the Royal Guard was unsettling. At hearing that Silvia was to be imprisoned for now, a flare of anger danced across Archer's vision, everything he saw becoming tinted in red but for a fleeting moment before returning to normal. Shaking his head, he realized he missed the tail end of the conversation, and Gaiden was whisking them all away, surely worried that he or one of the others would speak out against the king which would have been greatly inappropriate. There were times to speak out and times to remain civil. Now, when everything was so fragile, was the time to be civil.

Archer followed along until they reached the dungeons, eyes instantly honing in on an amazing source of power. He could see it emanating from the short woman's being. There wasn't a doubt in his mind that she was the sage that was mentioned, the conversation finally appearing in his mind--he figured he must have picked up on what was being said subconsciously while his mind blanked out for a moment. The Witch Sage. Her appearance was fitting of one holding that status, and the power was even more so fitting. It was a shame the others couldn't see it in such a raw form as he could, though it was a mix of awe-inspiring and frightening. He wondered how she had come up with that much magical strength but decided it wasn't the right time to ask. Apparently, she wasn't going to be answering their questions, but Leilah brought up an excellent point.

"It's true. Even if you won't indulge us our curiosities and worries, King Sigmund will be expecting a report from you, and we will be there to hear it regardless," Archer stated simply, not fazed by the sage's uncooperative attitude. He wanted to know if Silvia was okay, but he was certain that she was. He could sense the sign of life from within her using his sharpened senses, mostly his enhanced sight. He would not worry for now, but instead just hang in there until the sage was able to give her report to the king, and with any hope, it would be a good one. Archer certainly had faith, and faith was no small matter.

"What Leilah said is right, King Sigmund will be most curious as to what you have divined for Silvia." Gaiden placed his own input, showing the Witch Sage that her words were being weighed by the Guard. Gaiden did not intend to discount her, though it may have sounded that way. The Witch Sage was well known for having a short temper, but Gaiden had never seen it in person. Even now, he could not sense any anger or malice from the Sage.

"As I said, I will not speak of Silvia's Divination," the Witch Sage spoke firmly, her cold eyes scrutinizing the Guard. "Neither to you, nor the King. You are incorrect to think that the King of Ermith has any authority over me, quite the opposite. He understands this. You, it seems, do not."

Gaiden frowned at this. Authority over the King? He had not heard of this before, even in all of his years of knowing the King both personally and professionally. This might just be the Witch Sage's own conceit, but something about her, about the way she carried herself, the way she seemed to know more than anyone expected, it might be because her job was to be a Sage. And Elder, though she appeared much younger than Gaiden, probably only in her mid-twenties. To think someone so young could hold such tremendous power...but then again, wasn't Archer the same way? His potential was certainly great.

"Hm, let me explain it another way," the Witch said, turning her back on the Guard, her dress smoothly flowing with her movements. She reached out with her left hand, the ring on her finger beginning to give off a small glow. She took a half-step to the side so that the Guard could see her hand was stretched over the physical lock to Silvia's cage. With a simple wave of her hand, the lock snapped in half and fell to the ground.

"Come, child. Awaken from your slumber," the Witch Sage called softly to the girl sleeping within. Slowly, Silvia stirred from her sleep, lifting herself from the hard bed she had been given. After a moment of hesitation, Silvia emerged from the darkness of her cell, bringing herself into the light of the torches. When she did, Gaiden couldn't help but give a sigh of relief.

Silvia was no longer coated in the scales of a dragon. She had been given rough clothes to cover her, but it was certainly an improvement over the clothes that were ripped to shreds due to her transformation. Her ears were slightly pointed now, but not as severely as they were, and there were no traces of horns on her head. Her hands were back to normal as well, no longer in the shape of claws. Her tail was also nowhere to be seen.

Silvia's head was turned to the ground, as if ashamed. The Sage wrapped her arm around Silvia's shoulders and gently pushed her closer to the Guard and fully out of her cell. Silvia was slightly taller than the Sage, but with her head hung so low, they appeared at a similar height.

"Silvia, your divination is yours alone to know. It is up to you whether to speak it aloud." The Sage dropped her arm from Silvia's shoulder and took a step back, allowing the Guard to focus their attention on the young girl, appearing to them as human.

Silvia hesitated, then slowly began to lift her head. Her eyes were tightly shut, as if dealing with some internal struggle. Slowly, she opened her eyes, revealing the emerald orbs sparkling behind them. Silvia looked straight up to the Guard, her eyes resting on Archer last. Then, with a shaky voice of her own disbelief, Silvia spoke. "My powers came from a man and a dragon. I have to choose whether to help man or dragon. I choose to side with man."

Adventures of Naletia: The Second Dragon War - Page 4 Empty Re: Adventures of Naletia: The Second Dragon War

Post by Kurio Sun Nov 10, 2013 8:14 pm

Aurelia said nothing of the king's decision to send Silvia into the dungeon. She simply stood to the side and out of the way of everyone. It wasn't her place to speak out against the king after he has made his decision and when Gaiden hurried them off to the dungeon she followed with slow steps, being the last to leave the throne room.

Following Gaiden into the dungeon her attention was immediately focused onto the one known as the Witch Sage. She had heard rumors of the woman being powerful and she could certainly feel the magical power emanating from the woman's body. It was completely different from Aurelia herself. Her own magical ability came from using her body as a catalyst for the leylines' magic energy to be channeled through it.

When Silvia finally emerged from her cell she had reverted back from her transformation. Her body language conveyed a feeling of distraught and shame. Whatever the Witch Sage had told the girl definitely hit her hard. And when Silvia finally spoke Aurelia was the first to make a move. The girl had discovered that she was not fully human, that she had the blood of a dragon running through her veins. Most people would then see her as an abomination, a monster. Aurelia took slow steps toward the girl and allowed her hands to gently fall and rest on the girl's shoulders. She tilted her head down very slightly to meet the girl's eyes. "Silvia, even though you have the blood of dragons in you, you're still human. Your choice of lending this power of yours to man proves that fact." Aurelia spoke, her voice quiet and soothing, "You are who you are. There's no changing that fact. Do not sulk about something you can't change. Rather think of how you can use this power you have been granted to aid man. And no matter what happens Silvia, remember that you are not a monster."

Leilah merely nodded as Aurelia spoke to Silvia. Now reverted to her human form, she seemed... more distant and mirthless. There was no mistake that her divination led to this––the realization she had just gone through would shake anyone's world. Hopefully, however, it would not weigh so heavily on her mind forever. The resolved mystery of her origin and decision as to what to do with said origin would prove a great boon in tipping the scales in her favor. If she wished to aid man then the King could not kill her for the people's sake.

He would be killing their greatest ally if he tried.

And 'try' would be as far as he would get.

Adventures of Naletia: The Second Dragon War - Page 4 Empty Re: Adventures of Naletia: The Second Dragon War

Archer paid close attention to the witch's words, and it seemed that apparently she was a being outside of the king's control. From the power that he could see so clearly as the morning sun, the cadet was not surprised. Not even the king could match up with this woman's magical potency. He sighed, feeling a bit defeated until she ushered Silvia out of her cell. His eyes lit up when he saw that she was all right, though she seemed to be troubled, most likely by the events that had taken place prior to this meeting. Still, apparently the witch would not speak on Silvia's behalf; it would have to be the girl herself that told them of what had happened with the divination. Part human and part dragon. Powers of both. And yet, she had chosen to aid humans in the end, something that also failed to surprise Archer.

"Aurelia's right. You are no monster. Even when your appearance changed, I knew you were still you on the inside," Archer spoke up gently, pitching in to reassure the girl. Granted it was easy to do, for he spoke the truth. Though her outer form had changed, it was fairly simple to see her true self within with his eyes. "I had so much faith in you, and you overcame it just as I know you would." Archer felt his face growing a bit warmer and decided to relent from pressing the issue any further. Coughing into his hand, he tried to reign in his racing heart. "We're all so glad that you've come to that decision." He smiled despite trying to be a tad bit more formal. He couldn't help it. For some reason, he was just so genuinely happy--happier than he had been for quite some time. Keeping his emotions in line for the sake of efficiently fighting...it was much more taxing than he had once thought, and for once, it felt great just letting it all go. Perhaps it wasn't so bad to do so after all.... Just maybe...

Adventures of Naletia: The Second Dragon War - Page 4 Empty Re: Adventures of Naletia: The Second Dragon War

Post by Zerifachias Thu Nov 14, 2013 8:04 pm

Silvia couldn't help the smile that rose to her lips after what everyone was saying to her. How they encouraged her. She felt her eyes begin to sting, and she tried to wipe away the tears before they could form. Silvia sniffed and let out a sigh, as if a burden was just lifted from her shoulders. She knew now that the members of the Guard didn't blame her for what she did, and for that, she was immensely grateful.

Silvia felt another hand on her shoulder and turned her head slightly. Seeing Auza there, she relaxed a little more, knowing the look on Auza's visage was one of comfort. Silvia took a step back, so that she stood next to Auza instead of in front of her. The Witch surely had more to say. Auza soon confirmed Silvia's suspicions when she took a step closer to Gaiden. Despite how huge Gaiden was, physically, after seeing the raw magical power Auza held, Silvia couldn't help but see Gaiden as being so much smaller than this tiny woman. And if Gaiden was small, what did that make the rest of them?

"I sense a strong magic coming from you Gaiden," Auza spoke, holding out her hand, her palm facing up, as if asking to receive something. "Whatever it is, it resonates very strongly with Silvia's spirit. I'd like to see it." Gaiden paused for only a moment, thinking of the possible outcomes were he to refuse her. Then again, there was really no reason to refuse the Witch, she would probably use some magic to fetch it in the end. He reached into his coat pocket and pulled out the flaming red orb that had come from Silvia.

"Is this what you mean? It came directly from Silvia's mouth right before she fell unconscious," Gaiden explained. "Can you tell what it is?"

"Patience." Auza took the small orb with her pale fingers, being very careful not to drop it. She actively avoided showing it to Silvia, despite the young girl's curiosity. "I suggest not coming near until I know exactly what- wait." Auza stopped suddenly, holding out her arm, blocking Silvia further from view. After a pause, she lowered her hand and closed her fist over the red orb. "I require more time with this. For now, you four," Auza looked at the four members of the Guard, "need to report back to the king. Tell him that I do not deem Silvia as a threat. As for you, Silvia," Auza turned her gaze back towards the young farmer girl, "those clothes are filthy. Come with me, I may have something that will fit you."

"Okay." Silvia nodded, smiling a little bit. She looked back at the members of the Guard who had saved her, "Thank you, everyone. I'll be back soon, I guess." Silvia smiled a little wider, then turned to Auza, who escorted her out of the dungeon to wherever.

Once the two were out of sight, Gaiden relaxed his shoulders a little. Being in the presence of the Witch was always a disconcerting experience. It was as if she brought with her the weight of a world that no one else knew. Gaiden certainly didn't want anything to do with it. He turned to his Guard and addressed them for a moment. "It is good to know that Silvia is safe. The king will surely like to hear of this."

~-~

The King looked down on his subjects as he listened to their report. When it was all finished, he paused for a minute, turning his back on the Guard. As if contemplating a great issue, the King stepped towards his throne and sat, something he normally never did when he was addressing his subjects or guests. He placed his mouth behind folded hands and let out a stressed breath.

"It is not possible for me to allow Silvia to go free of her charges," the King said slowly, cautiously.

"But, my Lord-!" Gaiden started, but was silenced by King Sigmund's raised hand.

"Ermith now suffers from the descent of these dragons, Gaiden. You would have me let a half-breed go free, out into the wilds of my country?" The King gripped the arm rests of his chair, but not rising from his seat. "The city would be in an uproar if I were to allow this, I cannot. A King is nothing without his people, and now my people call for blood. Her legacy might be of human descent, but her dragon powers are real enough to frighten the citizens. I am sorry, but there is nothing I can do."

Adventures of Naletia: The Second Dragon War - Page 4 Empty Re: Adventures of Naletia: The Second Dragon War

Post by Silver Tue Nov 19, 2013 5:30 pm

The Nightblade had remained as silent as usual during the rest of their discussion with the witch. Her masked visage focused on Silvia all-throughout, a small smile hidden behind the cloth. The girl was handling things much better with encouragement; and although she would not speak of it, Leilah could not help but feel the feathery embrace of nostalgia. The girl was reminding her of those times––the ones that passed long, long ago. She absentmindedly rubbed her face despite the cloth, a tear having rushed down her cheek to meet the mask. Those times...

She could have been swept up in their painfully resonant embrace had it not been for the rest of the Guard returning to the King. She could have remembered if the King had not uttered something so off-putting.

"It is not possible for me to allow Silvia to go free of her charges," the King had spoke with caution. Leilah's skin prickled for a second, instinct telling her to fight when peaceful resolution had not worked. But instead, she remained perfectly still––composed as the king finished the rest of his speech. The second he had finished speaking, the air hung silent in the room for a good seven seconds.

And then it happened.

A chuckle.

Soft at first, but growing progressively louder and fuller of body as the seconds ticked by. By the time everyone realized it was resounding from the figure in dark garbs, it had become frightening. The Nightblade took a step forward, right hand poised just above her navel, rapidly shifting between rise and fall as she laughed. And laughed. And laughed. The longer it went on the creepier it became; even if one had not known Leilah as the silent killer she was, this would have seemed beyond unnatural.

"I'm sorry," she spoke as her laughter died, a certain harshness painting the unnaturally loud tone. "I find it hilarious that the King of an endangered nation is going to treat his greatest warrior to an early death, and not even one on the battlefield." She came to a halt in front of him, arms crossing over her bosom. He could not see it, but her red eyes remained locked on his frame––they too carried the fierceness of her voice.

"I must have misheard," she started, her voice just a loud, "certainly you're not that foolish." She did not give anyone time to raise argument toward her comment, she merely held up a hand toward her fellow Guard to signify that she was not done speaking. "Surely you realize that Ermith's suffering should be your top priority. Here stands someone with the ability to ease that pain––to fight the dragon menace that plagues your nation, and you want to have her slaughtered like a heathen in the streets. And for what? All because your people are frightened?"

She huffed. "I'm sorry, but that is the most pathetic excuse I've ever heard from anyone, and I hear many." Her hands fell from her chest, and she took several steps toward the King once more, fists tightly clenched at her side. "Your savior––because that is what this girl, this child, truly is––is to be sentenced to an early death because of her heritage? Something she had no control over? Because she just so happened to be born with incredible power? I don't see the logic in that."

"I don't see the logic in minding your people either. This halfling is their greatest means of defense against the dragons: their champion. She has accepted that position in order to aid both them and you. True, she is not skilled, nor does she fully understand her abilities, but she has just discovered them. She is of no threat to you. Or your people." At this, her hand shifted to the dagger strapped to her side. "There are plenty of people within this kingdom of greater threat to you," she disappeared from sight suddenly, the sound of her dagger being drawn followed by rhythmic footsteps.

Almost an instant later, Archer felt an invisible force wrap around him, cold steel pressed against his neck. The force dragged him forward from the rest of the group only slightly, Leilah reappearing. "Do you not see, now?" She held the young Cadet there in the grasp of death, dagger pressed up against him for only a few moments more before she letting him go. She swiftly resheathed the dagger and approached the King without the slightest bit of hesitation.

"Anyone within these walls––anyone within the vast reaches of your domain carries greater threat than this child. I'd sooner worry about your precious daughter threatening the safety of this kingdom than I would Silvia." There was a very particular stab made with the girl's name, quite different from the rest of her speech. Something that, if anyone had really known the Nightblade, would have sounded like they shared a common bond. But it was hard for anyone to even take notice of it, for the assassin still had not finished.

"Your people won't understand? Make them. If they will not follow their ruler in times such as these, you're clearly not the figurehead they need." She turned swiftly on her heels. "Show them that this girl offers them a reign of peace." She rejoined the group, not turning back to face the King.

"Show them their hope."

With that last sentence, her voice had returned to it's smooth whisper.

A call for blood. Archer's eyes sharpened immensely at the sound of that. Life in a prison cell wouldn't have been so bad; it wasn't something that Archer couldn't fix later on because he would certainly be damned before he let that carry on. But an execution? Archer would lay waste to the people of the capitol if he needed to in order to prevent that. He wasn't afraid of killing a person, especially if that person was trying to get someone unjustly killed. Their fear is no excuse. If Archer could quell the fear inside him, then so should everyone else, or at least not make rash decisions in their frightened states. He could see himself in the streets, standing amidst the dismantled bodies of the people. To think that just not too long ago, he was the perfect example of a soldier, obedient and efficient in combat. Loyal to a fault. That loyalty remained but no longer would he blindly follow the orders of one who condemned the innocent. Now he would do anything to protect Silvia, and he was not alone.

Head turning slightly, his eyes instantly locked onto Leilah. He heightened his senses quickly and picked up her as the source of the sound. There was something so...off about it. Was there something funny here? Out of all the things to laugh about, she chose to laugh at the king's words. The eerie laughter continued until she finally stepped forward and began her speech. He listened intently as she greatly defended Silvia just as he would if need be, and this made him feel so much better, and even as her physical tells depicted that she was going to move towards him, he stood still and calm until he felt the dagger against his throat. Of course she would pick the most powerful person on the team to target for her example, and Archer made not a single attempt to stop her. The assassin had great control and he trusted her; there was no need to try to avoid harm that would not come to him.

He was released, and Archer continued to breath normally, absorbing the woman's words, hanging on the very last edge of her speech. Silvia was their hope. To request the king show that to his people...it was the right thing to do. How he did not see this was the way it should be in the first place was just unknown. The burden of protecting his people really must have been getting to him, but there was no way he could just let himself fall beneath it and fail to see logic for what it was. He merely uttered a single statement loud enough for Leilah to hear for she certainly deserved to.

"Well said."

Adventures of Naletia: The Second Dragon War - Page 4 Empty Re: Adventures of Naletia: The Second Dragon War

Post by Zerifachias Tue Nov 19, 2013 7:07 pm

The King sat on his throne, his expression switching from surprise, to shock, to anger, and back to surprise only to repeat the same cycle. The King was known for never hiding his true emotions, and some would say that drew him closer to his people, when they could see his more human side. All throughout Leilah's speech, he did not move from his seat, nor did he speak until some time after Leilah finished. Even Gaiden was left speechless, though he did not show it. Inside, he was secretly praising Leilah in every way he could think of.

Several minutes passed before the King showed any sign of responding to Leilah. He gripped the chair he sat in and pushed himself into a standing position once again, seemingly with a renewed vigor. He walked down the few steps so that he could be eye-level with the members of the Guard, something he normally never did, for anyone. "It seems to me," the King spoke, his hand over his heart, "that I have done you, my loyal Guard, a disservice. I pray that you will forgive my earlier judgments." King Sigmund lowered his hands and folded them behind his back, opening his chest to the Guard.

"Leilah, you have been a member of the Guard for a number of years, but I have never heard you speak of something so adamantly. Quite frankly, I am impressed. Do all of you feel this way?" The King scanned the visages of the Royal Guard, from Gaiden to Archer, to Leilah, and Aurelia. Just from their expressions, he knew the answer to his question and smiled a little. "I would like to speak to Silvia, might you bring her here?"

"There's no need for that," a familiar voice sounded from the other hall. Auza was there, of course, it was her voice after all. Still dressed in her black colors, she entered the throne room with a deserved aura of authority and power. Next to her, she brought along a girl who could have only been Silvia. But...was she really this beautiful?

The red-haired farmer girl, after being cleaned up and dressed properly, shone brighter than any jewel encrusted into the King's throne. Her tan skin, though rough from years of farm work, still shone in the lighting. Emerald eyes danced like candlelight, confidence etched into her every motion. As for her dress, she wore a sleeveless, white silk that cut off just above her knees. Hard, black boots covered her feet, leaving only a portion of her strong legs visible. On her chest rested a beautiful necklace, a small red jewel encrusted into the center. The jewel glowed like fire, and, for those who could see magic, it became apparent that this was the same red orb that Silvia had coughed up earlier, but in a different form.

Auza gestured for the girl to approach the King, and she did, brushing back the beautiful red hair out of her face. Silvia walked past the Guard, in between where Gaiden and Archer stood, and stopped just a foot from the King. When she stopped, she gave the King a short curtsy, raising the folds of her dress just a tiny bit. "Good evening, Your Highness. My name is Silvia Reshe, I am honored to be in your presence."

The King looked up and down at Silvia, taking in her form for himself. He broke eye contact with the girl and turned to Gaiden, "This is her? The girl who is also a dragon?"

"I assure you, that is her," Gaiden replied easily. The King returned to Silvia.

"Silvia Reshe, I have but two questions for you. The first is this: What was your father's name?" The King asked, his hands still folded behind him.

"My father's full name is Hans Engel Reshe," Silvia replied, her smile flickering a little. The memory of her father's death was still fresh in her mind at this point.

"Hans? Ah, yes, I remember now. He did speak of having a daughter. To think someone like him could give birth to such a beautiful girl." The King coughed into his hand, preventing Silvia from replying, so she just smiled a little wider. "My second question is this: Where is your father, right now?"

"I...I don't know that," Silvia's smile disappeared, but she didn't lower her head or her eyes. Right to the end, she kept eye contact with King Sigmund. "When he made me leave the village on his horse, a dragon awoke and destroyed the whole village. I can only assume that he was still there when..." Silvia trailed off, breaking eye contact for only a moment.

"I understand," the King said, turning his back on Silvia when he noticed she could no longer keep up her front. He walked a bit closer to the steps to his throne, but did not climb them. "You are of both dragon and man, your home was destroyed by a dragon, and your father is missing. Witch Sage, have you anything to say?"

Auza, unlike Silvia and the Guard, did not approach the King. She stood perfectly still, perfectly content with where she was. Her arms folded across her chest, she only raised her eyebrow. "If you want, I can call Wallace. I'm sure he'd have a few pointers to give you about running a nation."

"That is not necessary," the King responded a little too quickly than was expected of him, and for those that were watching him closely, they could see a shiver run up his back. Had he already experienced something along these lines before, where Auza had called this Wallace? Regardless, the King regained his composure quickly, and turned to face Silvia and the Guard again. "Silvia, forgive me, but I have a request of you. Join the ranks of the elite, and become a part of my Royal Guard. What say you?"

Silvia stopped completely, her body frozen. She hadn't expected this, not at all had she expected this. She brought her hands up to her chest and seemed to adopt a position similar to praying. "I...I don't know. I don't have any combat experience, a-and the city people already know what I am."

"You can be trained, and my people can be convinced, just as I was. And this is but a formality. With the title of Royal Guard, you will be allowed access to a large number of services in the city and my palace. Not only this, but it will be much simpler to move about my country with this title." The King's offer was very tempting, but was it the right decision to make here? Silvia couldn't tell. She turned toward the Guard, her eyes asking them what she couldn't form with words.

Adventures of Naletia: The Second Dragon War - Page 4 Empty Re: Adventures of Naletia: The Second Dragon War

The whole situation didn't quite turn out how Archer thought it would. The king actually admitted his fault; he was finally listening to reason. The cadet imagined he would react quite violently to Leilah's speech but it seemed as though her words were exactly what it took to make him realize the truth behind things. Calling for Silvia, it seemed as though the Witch Sage was several steps ahead, for she appeared with...a beautiful young woman who could only be Silvia. Archer felt a tightness in his chest as his heart suddenly gave a powerful beat. What was this fire he felt in his cheeks? For some reason, he couldn't take his eyes off of her, and they followed her even as she strolled by to approach the king and give him a very formal greeting. Well, this farmer girl certainly cleaned up well. Archer listened to the tense exchange between her and the king, and the witch's input about calling this....Wallace fellow certainly intrigued the cadet. Who was he to elicit such a quick response from the king? Was he another being who happened to have more power than the king? If Archer was younger, a shiver might have traversed his spine, but he was not afraid of people with power. After all, he knew it wasn't about just having power--it was about what you did with that power.

In the end, the king offered Silvia a spot on the Royal Guard, explaining what would happen should she so join. She would need training, surely, but that was no matter at all. To have her along with them... He met her pleading eyes. He could tell that she was happy, perhaps too much so because she seemed to be at a loss for words. Archer took a few steps closer, his expression solemn but a gleam in his light crimson eyes. "It would be an honor to have you join our Royal Guard, Miss Reshe," he said formally, placing an arm over his chest and bowing. "Your power and strength...should it join ours, we will be able to protect this kingdom from any threat whether that threat be from monster or man or dragon. All who threaten our sanctity will fall before our might." Standing back up, he gave her a brief look before turning his attention to the king, eyes piercing into his. "This is something I sincerely believe."

Not just him, surely. The other members of the Royal Guard had to have been thinking the same thing. He sighed and offered Leilah a look. To speak out against the king like she did took so much bravery. Though she tended to stick to the shadows and kill from behind, her courage was not to be underestimated. He found her to be a far more valuable ally now than he ever did before.

Not a drop of anxiety touched Leilah's confident frame as she stood awaiting the King's reaction. There was, however, the slightest (practically unnoticeable by all save Archer) drop in her shoulders: both relief and peace taking over he figure. She would not have to flee. She would not have to kill. Turning back to face the King, she smiled behind the mask with a definite satisfaction. This would not be like the time before––fighting authority earned her his respect this time, not cursed exile.

She did not, however, comment on her delight over this outcome. She merely nodded in the King's direction before turning her gaze toward the Witch Sage and she who could only be Silvia. That feeling of satisfaction rose in her when she gazed upon the girl. Cleaned up and placed in a proper station, Leilah could not have felt a stronger kinship to the halfling than she did at that moment. The King's offer for her to join their side, should she accept, would cement those feelings.

Archer spoke first and Leilah quickly nodded in agreement. "With the proper training," the Nightblade began, "you will become the champion for the people of Ermith. I have no doubt about your ability to rise to the occasion." The assassin took a step forward, glancing at Archer for the briefest of moments before placing her gloved hand on the girl's shoulder. "I would not have spoken in such a passionate manner for just anyone. If it is not clear enough already, you have my full support."

Silvia smiled genuinely, both at Leilah and Archer. Never before had she met such kind people, and they were practically strangers! They also were her saviors, and that was a debt that Silvia intended to repay. She felt Leilah's hand on her shoulder, and reached up to place her own hand on the woman's. A fire seemed to light from within Silvia's eyes, and it burned brightly, confidently. Her smile grew, and she turned around to face King Sigmund, but he spoke before she could say anything.

"Then it is decided," the King approached Silvia and placed his right hand on top of her head. "Silvia Reshe, as King I hereby dub you as a member of my Royal Guard. You are given the royal title of Knight and hold rank in my court equal to a Lord." After the dubbing, the King lowered his hand from Silvia's head and folded his hands behind his back again. "Excuse the informal dubbing. Normally I would hold a great feast in celebration, however, considering the circumstances, I'm afraid there is no time for that. I recognize that there is a great threat to my country in the form of the dragon menace. I have also received reports that our enemy nation, Sar'tu, has been amassing their forces for quite some time now. I can no longer afford to keep my army spread so thin. So I have no choice but leave the issue of going out to fight the dragons to my Royal Guard."

"Pardon me, sir, but," Silvia started, lifting a hand to her chest. "Before that, I want to go back to my village. I need to search for my father."

At this request, the King's eyes softened, though it was barely visible. He knew that the likelihood of Hans Reshe being alive was very small. Still, going to the destroyed village might bring about to some clues as to what to do about the dragon menace. If there was anything left of the village at all. Still, the King nodded his head, "Permission granted. For now, you require rest. Royal Guard, you shall depart at sun's first light."

"Silvia, remember what I told you about the Soul Forge," Auza spoke, drawing attention to herself. "The power of dragons can help you destroy them. Whichever path you take, it is your choice." With that said, a large, dark portal opened up behind Auza, though she seemed a little surprised by it's appearance. "It seems that I don't have to call him after all," was all she said before disappearing into the portal, which then blinked out of existence.

End Prologue

Chapter One: The Witch, The Dragon, And The Forge

Act One: A Broken Home

The Royal Guard departed right as the sun was just beginning to show itself on the horizon. They moved silently through the dim lighting of the sleeping city. It was under this cover that the Royal Guard left the city and began to make their way to the small village where Silvia was born. The village was called Iona, a small, out-of-the-way little town that people normally wouldn't notice on the map. But because of it's proximity to the Capital City and it's primary agricultural product being potatoes, it would be hard to meet someone who didn't know about the village. Unless they didn't like potatoes.

Though it was the closest village to the Capital City, it would still take half a day to reach it. The continent of Ermith is huge, and the people took a liking to spreading out. This causes some problems with communication between cities, but it provides greater benefits in farm land, cultural diversity, and the many traveling merchants roaming around the continent who bring goods from city to city.

With the dragon menace, however, the traveling merchants have all stopped their trade routes in order to avoid the danger. With that, the local rodents and other such creatures have begun to take to the roads once more, the hired guards that used to scare them off no longer there. And not just the smaller beasts, but the larger, more aggressive ones have also returned.

Blocking the Guard from passing along the road any further stood a group of large, green, lizard-like creatures known as raptors. Similar to the ancient era of raptors, only these are said to be much smaller than their ancestors and have scales instead of feathers. One of the lizards seemed to be smaller than the rest, at max height stood a head above Gaiden, the others were much taller.

Before the Guard could backtrack to avoid the raptors, they caught scent of their presence and began to approach them. With a grimace, Gaiden retrieved his blade and held it aloft, pointing it at the group of raptors who began to hiss at them. "Draw your swords, men, these raptors are nastily tenacious. We must fight to get through."

Silvia seemed perturbed, though perhaps not the reason others might think. She was looking at Gaiden, mostly and didn't look very surprised by the appearance of the raptors. "Why do you address everyone in the Guard as men? You and Archer are the only males in the group, right? Or am I missing something?" Silvia asked, taking a quick glance at Aurelia and Leilah.
