An Ancient Prophecy Come to Light... Empty An Ancient Prophecy Come to Light...

Earth, 20xx...

The world as we know it...has come to an end at long last.  It was a night like any other when the rippling scars of crimson slashed across the sky as if a vicious claw had torn the eternal expanse of space asunder.  The earth trembled and quaked, and the air became filled with the shouting of the religious claiming that God had finally come to spirit them off to the heavens while the earth shall be claimed by Satan.  Unfortunately for them, this was no Rapture.  There was no salvation for the humans.  No, not this time.  The earthquakes crumpled buildings into nothingness and killed thousands.  Farmlands were completely ravaged, and cities were turned to ruins.  That night merely marked the beginning of the end.  A few days had spanned over which the course of destruction seemed to escalate, and as that figure spiraled upwards, the population of earth's people spiraled downward hopelessly.  On the final night that was meant to surely be the end, for distortions in space and time could be seen, as determined by astrophysicists.  It was theorized that after all the suffering, the very planet was going to either be pulled apart or implode entirely.  One wise old man in particular stayed awake that night whereas the rest wished to perish in their sleep if it was absolutely meant to be so.  In the sky, he saw a dark figure with a cloak of shadows surrounding him.  This figure was humanoid, but definitely not a person, and for a while, the man thought himself to be dreaming.  But this was no dream.  None of it was.  What he saw was the harbinger who sought to destroy the world once and for all, but in a moment of odd hesitation, lost it all causing the sky to weave itself back together, closing the void that had opened.

And for the first time in what seemed an eternity, the world fell silent.  The old man let out what could only be expressed as a sigh of relief, and the sleeping people of the world that never expected to wake up again from their supposedly final slumber were going to be in for a surprise.  And so they were.  The people crawled out of their holes and makeshift shelters and started rummaging around the world, trying to salvage their towns and ration out leftover supplies.  There were no rich or poor in this new world.  There was no discrimination--the people helped each other because frankly, not a single one of them could be alive right now.  It was something to rejoice about, not spread hate.  Weeks past and people were finally managing the terrain to a point to start small community crop gardens and such.  It would take decades, maybe even centuries before the world was as connected as it had been before the end.

However, something nobody expect was the appearance of strange creatures roaming the wastes that were created from the disaster.  It turned out that our world had been touched with something...something that could only be described as magic.  With these new threats in mind, the old countries began building sanctuaries for the people and organizing militia for protection.  They called these sanctuaries "Citadels", and they proved to be far more formidable than people first thought they'd be considering resources were so limited.  It just went to show that anything was possible now.  Anything.  Most of the religious went insane after the event and roamed the land like monsters in gathered cults that called for the true return of Christ.  Other religious figures joined the Citadels and offered their wisdom to the new organization of humanity.  They gathered and put their heads together to figure out what had happened to the world and why, and after scouring many of the most ancient records, they came about a disturbing prophecy that foretold of a grand herald of darkness arriving by night to prime the world for absolute destruction for a total of three days, and on the fourth day, the world would be pulled apart and sent to the abyss forever.  It told of a glimmer that distracts the herald for a second, completely undoing his priming and forcing him back to the dimension from whence he came.  The scholars could not rejoice yet, for the worst was apparently yet to come.  The glimmer is caused by the birth of a mighty human blessed with strength unparalleled--a human who would become known as the Guardian and would protect the earth with the aid of a form-changing Spirit.  These two would be a force to be reckoned with, and with great good, for it was prophesied that the harbinger would return in the distant future to finish what he started--destroying the Guardian and plunging the world into oblivion for good.

And so beings known as Seekers were sent to scour the land for the Guardian with no idea who he or she might be.  The only clue they had was the glimmer.  Upon finding this hero, there would be a glimmer.  Whether it was like a physical light, or perhaps a glimmer of hope within the heart...no one knew.  Years passed and the Seekers were unsuccessful in their plight until one day, a young boy was discovered in one of the smallest scrap villages.  The Seeker that found him explained the glimmer as "a feeling so intense within the very essence--an emanation of hope that suffuses the bloodstream", and so their hero had been found.  He was carted back to Aquarius Citadel on the west coast of what used to be France.  This Citadel in particular had become a large trade center between other large Citadels--the first steps to reestablishing world trade after being so separated for so long.  In light of this, it served as a makeshift world capitol and was where many of the main scholars resided.  The young boy fell under the care of Renivus Talef, one of the High Scholars of the Prophecy, and when the boy came of age, he was entered as a recruit in the Citadel Protection Academy, an organization designed to train militia in areas such as guarding the town and performing salvage missions in the wastes along with standard reconnaissance.  The soon-to-be Guardian, however, would be put through specialized training.  True be it that they had no idea what the harbinger of shadows was capable of, but to unleash such devastation upon an entire planet...his strength was surely unreal.  The training was therefore harsh and rigorous, but the new world's glimmer of hope rose to the occasion and shone brightly.

One day, a vicious storm beset the Citadel causing the waves of the ocean to rise and crash into the shore, and from those waves a voice spoke to the Guardian, beckoning him out into the maelstrom.  Renivus warned him against it, but the Guardian knew this must be done.  Braving the horrid storm, the Guardian made it to the beach in one piece just in time to be greeted by what could have only be described as a tsunami of tremendous proportions.  Instead of running, the Guardian stood his ground proclaiming to the skies that if the waters wished to claim the Citadel, the incredible force of nature would have to pass through him
first.  In that instance the skies were cleared and the waters calmed.  The image of a beautiful woman composed of crystal clear running water appeared on the sands and approached him.  It spoke to him, commending him on his bravery and acknowledging his true right to bear the title of Guardian.  It was at that point that a bond formed between the two of them--an inseparable one.

And so another chapter of the prophecy had been fulfilled.  Together, the Guardian and the Spirit fended monsters and evil in general from the Aquarius Citadel allowing it room to thrive, and the world grew stronger and stronger once more.  However, the High Scholars of the Prophecy knew that it was only a matter of time before the prophecy continued to the point where the harbinger would return to claim the life of the Guardian.  Unfortunately, neither success nor failure could be gleaned from the words of the prophecy; it was one thing that would remain a mystery until the time finally came.  The scholars pleaded the Guardian to not fight alone any longer; to surround himself with allies that he could trust.  Their plot was to have them be sacrifices for when the harbinger came--distractions such that the Guardian could unleash his might with no worries.  The Guardian agreed to make some friends, for friends was something he realized that he lacked.

And so our story begins in a post-apocalyptic land with its people awaiting the final chapter of an ancient prophecy with our hero, the Guardian, searching for an ally to fight alongside him to keep the world safe, blissfully unaware of what his higher ups are planning...

Okay, so this is a statistical role play that shall start off being between just me and Ocean Spray to get her accustomed to the way the statistical role play works.  After the first chapter, a couple more slots will open and people will be invited to fill them, so keep this in mind.  Those who might be interested in those slots may post here now, but do know that I won't be accepting your profiles until later on.  Thank you. :3

Question: Will those that join later on be at the same level the current party is, or will newcomers be at level 1?

It depends. I don't think we're going to level up much over the course of the first chapter, but in the case that we do, those who join later might start at a level that is above 1.
