Fai held his crystal staff with both hands and swung it at the direction of the last, and nearly dead, wolf. The crystal on the staff glowed and violently vibrated as a pale pink sphere dropped down on the wolf and exploded upon contact, striking the two birds next to it as well.

Finally, the battle was over. After such an exiting welcome to the game world, Jaison for one was ready for a rest. He sighed with relieve and re-sheathed his blade before turning to his new companions. They looked as battle scarred as he felt. "Not much of a welcome, was it?" he asked lightly.

Fai laughed as he put his staff behind his back, the the staff practically disappeared. The battle was a bit harsh, but it was quite entertaining and a good way for him to test out his abilities in this world. They hadn't changed much, he was still able to draw arcane mana from that mark on his back.

"Well I for one thought it was a very warm welcome." Fai responded, "Very entertaining, no?"

Hakatsu arose from his place by the tree and joined the others. "That was a bit more harsh than entertaining," he said uneasily, glancing around. The battle had taken quite a bit out of him, and there was no doubt the others were a bit roughed up, too. He desperately hoped he would never have to be thrown into the middle of a conflict like that again. They had just appeared in the area and already he was slightly regretting it.

"I'm siding with him one this one," Jason said with a grin, pointing at Hakatsu. Fai's idea of entertaining seemed a bit... skewed, to say the least. "No matter how you look at it, it's just bizarre to be dropped in the middle of a battle zone at the start of a mission. Maybe I should ask for a bonus for this..."

A sudden chill settled over the forest clearing as they talked. The light seemed to darken and the forest became murky and foreboding. The trees that they had appeared behind trembled slightly then, with sharp whooshing sound, a multitude of crescent shaped energy blades ripped through the trees.
With reluctant groans the trees toppled over en masse, crashing to the forest floor. A white hair youth heaving a large curved sword picked his way through the debris. "Finally!" he muttered as he did, "I was beginning to think you would never beat them!"

"Hiss... No like..."

Kai moved over to the youth, her crossbow pointed directly at his head, an arrow ready. Kai's expression was little more than that of the hunter. Ready to strike the person that had come in before them. She didn't really like anybody. But as far as this guy went, he seemed pure evil. But before she struck, she looked to her allies.

"Playtime?"

"Ah, Kai, maybe randomly attacking the guy that just leveled a bunch of trees isn't the wisest decision," Jaison said lightly. The stranger nodded in agreement. He jammed his weapon in the ground, the translucent blade distorting the image of foliage that shone through its length.

"If you really want something to fight," the stranger said, "I can give you one. Just hold a minute, I got them her somewhere." He rummaged through his pockets, pulling out strange bones, cubes, a sack of money before finally finding an intricately braided rope from which several crystals hung. He plucked two and flicked them lightly ahead of him. They shattered as they hit the ground and released two spell circles that quickly form balls of light, one deep red and the other gray. The balls cracked and the pieces fell away to reveal two beasts. A stench of blood filled the air as they gazed around their surroundings, the wolf sniffing the air with a low growl and the bird ripping up the soil.

"Meet Gore Fang and Agrepa," the stranger smiled. "They will be your playmates. Enjoy!"
