The Others: Night and Shadows

“When you go home, tell them of us and say: for your tomorrow we gave our today.”
With that solemn request, They left their families and when forth into the darkness, subduing it and sealing it away, ushering in an age of peace for our kingdom.

-From Song of the Others by the bard of Jensing

For all time, the walls They build between the otherworld and ours has held. Fuelled by the belief of the people, they remained strong. Even after the kingdom fell, and the population shrank, they elder’s kept the traditions strong. Even after magic left the world, they followed the directions They left them.

Only the town of Defiance remains of the once mighty kingdom. Only the older portion of the populace still persists in the tradition ways. The younger generation scoff at magic and the ways of their elders. The stories told of Them are seen as just that, stories. The power to sustain the walls is no longer sufficient. They are crumbling. The Others are coming. And they have plans for our world.

Descendant of otherworlder mages have in their possession the grimoire; Book of Shadows; a tome containing the darker secrets of the worlds, and the way to break down the walls. From the shadows of history and folklore, another book has emerged, the Book of the Night Sky. The wielder of this book, the Oracle, waits for the descendants of Them to face their destiny.

They left their blood behind, that the tomorrow will be ensured. Though dusk brings darkness, the night sky is a wonder to behold.

An unnatural chill will the land as the walls facture. Heralds testing the waters shall fall before the blood of Them. But for blood to stop darkness, it most wax stronger and stronger. As Others rise from their prison, the night sky shall rain Their blood to...

"Enough!" the young man lounging on the stone steps cried out in frustration. The shadows of the room obscured his features, as they did those of the lady behind an ornate pedestal. "For days now you've been doing nothing but read from your blasted book. It's getting on my nerves. When will I get to crush them?"

"Soon, young one," she said. He voice was ageless. She moved from behind the stand to a large, plain cauldron. Her long silky robes fluttered as she seemingly floated across. From the depths of her sleeve, a long fingered hand covered with rings cast a fistful of glittering powder into the mix. The dark liquid inside swirled then surged upwards into a large bubble. Lights played across the surface as images flickered faster then the eye could follow. The bubble wavered, then cleared, showing an image within it. "There," the woman said softy, "this is where the blood of Them will be spilt."

"Heh," they youth scoffed. "Beat's the shit we get for cable here."

"Such worldly interests," another voice added. He appeared to materialize from the other corner of the room. He wore pure white; shoes, pressed pants, tie and even the wilting rose on his white jacket was white. "You forget it was you trashed the last box we had.

"Silence," the woman said. "It begins."

Merrick street was oddly quiet. No sounds leaked from the few houses that lined it. An ominous wind waved gently, causing the traditional talismanic wind chimes on the porches to toll sadly. Only four people happened to be travelling it that night. As they when about their business, the temperature plummeted. A small patch of snow formed in to middle of the street. It rapidly grew, stretching to the sidewalks, over the feet of the shocked pedestrians then piling at the property walls, balked by some unseen force. Just over the snow's origin point, a glowing red crack appeared in the air. It too quickly grew, and junks of what was before mundane air fell to the ground. Clawed hands grasped at the edges and several small creatures fell to the ground. The hole closed behind them and they rose to unsteady feet, looking around with wonder. Instantly, one of the creatures spotted the group. An alarm was raised and weapons readied.

Thanatos starts at D1.

Of all the nights to choose to wander the streets, this one turned out to be bad timing. Upon seeing the creatures standing there in the street, Thanatos's fists clenched. There was no way he was going to leave any of these things standing. He could run....the things didn't look too smart so it would be easy to lose them. However, smashing their pumpkin heads in seemed almost...enjoyable in this instance. He didn't smile at the thought, but it was a soothing one.

Sunny starts in G-9

The petite form of a woman carefully stepped onto the battlefield, looking around at her surroundings as if she didn't know where she was. She was covered with large, yellow petals that protected her body from prying eyes and hostile attacks. In various places on her body sprouted long, green vines with a multitude of thorns on them. But besides the most noticeable parts of her body, something else stuck out: She was barefoot. Upon her head lay a tiara made purely of flowers and vegetation, it seemed to be attached to her head, as it never moved from that spot.

As soon as Sunny stopped, her bare feet instantly turned brown as long roots shot out of her feet and dug into the ground. Sunny almost immediately shivered, "The ground is too cold here..." She said, looking down. Her voice itself was almost like honey, sweet and musical.

Verity starts at C1!

It seemed Glacia had sent her a gift from her Icy throne. In an instant a world of wintery wonderland like goodness covered the ground. It was as if it was her birthday, a smile gracing her pale face. Verity. One of Glacia's followers had decided to travel tonight, and it was a fortunate scenario for her. Unfortunately, however, the creatures that rose from the ground seemed to want to disrupt the tranquility of the icy coolness. But no matter, they would fall and be surrounded by red ice, while the follower could frolic in this glacial paradise.

Shekal starts in G-2

He was only walking home from class and all of the sudden these..things. Came from no where and didn't exactly look as if they wanted to help him study. Noticing others he frowned guessing he wasn't over-working and just seeing things. He went to reach for his mallet but of all times he couldn't feel it. Scowling harshly he decided to at least make snow balls and throw them. Maybe scare off these creatures.

Getting in a stance for running and picking up snow. In fact, when he was a kid, he enjoyed snow ball fights. It was a nice thought to be a kid again, but this would be a lot more dangerous then playing pretend..

Sunny looked up, seeing an odd creature and immediately determined that it was not a natural beast. Sunny's vines began twisting and lashing out at her sides in anger. Sunny motioned towards the enemy with her hand, and one of her thorny vines lashed out and struck the creature.

Verity uses Trigger Command: Grab Snowball!

Verity didn't have to kneel to pick up the snow that blanketed the ground, all she needed was to hold out her hand. The snow began to swirl slightly, forming a ball large enough for her to throw like a weapon. It wasn't anything like her Snowflake which she kept at home, but it would work. Aiming roughly, she prepared to fight.

Thanatos moves to D2. [Please change the 'D' to a 'T'.]

As the swordsman moved forward to wail on the closest pumpkin freak, he noticed a few others weren't very happy with them and were lashing out at them as well. He didn't say anything to them yet. When it came to words, Thanatos wasn't the best there was. Perhaps after the battle they could talk. At least they'd have something to talk about. Next time, though, he would remember to bring his sword.

For now, however, he was stuck dashing forward and striking a pumpkin thing right in its vegetable noggin with a tightly clenched fist, aiming to deal as much damage as possible. He wasn't used to fighting without a weapon, but he could pull off the basics.

A haste without a wink of hesitance he decided to aid the rest. He was fine with words but now was not the time. With that new rush that he had never felt in a long time he grabbed the snow and began to form it into a snow ball and looked for his first victim.

Thanatos slammed another fist into the pumpkin creature. Getting poked with a pointy stick did not feel very good and he was sure that the deed would not go unpunished. It would have been easier if he had his sword with him, but it wasn't like things like this happened everyday.

Sunny's vines lashed out again at the now-approaching creature, ripping into it's skin and flesh. She was getting a little on edge, seeing the creatures approach her. If her little baby forest creatures were here, they would protect her till they died. Of course, she wouldn't be able to handle the devastating emotions of losing her little plant babies.

"Stay away, foul beasts!" Sunny said, looking nervous. Her voice was still like honey, it seemed as though it never changed tone.

A simple throw. That was all it took for the snowball to make contact with its target. The creature pumpkin thing took it head on. And it was nice that it could feel the little bit of pain that came with the frozen ball. Calling more snow to her, she realized she had less than before. A bad side effect, but it would be fine. She would just need to make more snow.

Shekal attacks 3

It was close range and it was rushed so he didn't know how well he did on that throw. He decided to sprint back to prevent himself from being attacked again, though it didn't do much to him, was more like a deep paper cut. It burned and was annoying. Frowning he took a few steps back and noticed some of the creatures were heading towards a figure. They probably wouldn't do much damage so it was fine. All the same though, he decided to back track towards her.

The swordsman did not enjoy getting poked with those sharp sticks; they were actually starting to hurt now. "Annoying little bastards," he growled silently to himself before finishing off the one he had been assaulting with a final punch to its pumpkin head. He navigated away from one of the other ones and tried to focus on the other that had jabbed at him. It's downfall was inevitable, but there were sure to be more pointy stick pokes in-between.

Sunny quickly lashed out one last time against the approaching creature, crippling it. One down so far, and Sunny didn't even require assistance. Her vines lashed out a little more, eager to whip out against more creatures.

Verity watched as one fell. She had a feeling she could have done the same job with better results. Killing something with just enough life left for you to steal was always more rewarding. But the man got it for her, so she was left to throw a snowball at the closest one. It reformed in her hands, barely looking like the ball she had thrown in the beginning. Noticing more piles of snow nearby, she moved over to it, ready to create another weapon once this one was used up.

Shekal attacks 5!

These things were ugly, annoying and more so teaming. They obviously had the brains on how to take out a larger enemy. Was all he could think as he saw some poor guy being attacked by 3. Though he seemed to be doing fine. The person in the corner as well, with their vine...thing. With a thrust of his fist he smacked the snow ball into the mosters face and took off again.

Sunny yelped in surprise as the creature poked her with it's stick. Almost immediately, her vines lashed out, piercing the creature's body with an extra sharp vine, then threw the creature back to the ground. "Don't touch me, vile beast!" Sunny shrieked, her honey-voice had turned into a banshee howl when she was attacked.

And it appeared as though his hypothesis was correct. Two more pointy sticks pierced his skin. They didn't hurt that badly; it could have been a lot worse. He pulled his arm back and really laid into one of the little freaks with a hefty punch to its pumpkin head, hoping to knock it clear off. It wouldn't be enough punishment for the bastard, but it would have to do for the moment.

Verity used the last of her current snowball, striking the foe before her with what was left of the slushy ice. When it didn't come back to her, she knew it had lost its potency. Luckily, she had another mound of snow to make more snowballs, should she need it.
