Tales of Alidaire: The Presence Empty Tales of Alidaire: The Presence

Post by Masquerade Sun Sep 12, 2010 5:07 pm

A lot has happened in the past allowing for us to move on to a bright future...

The Modernization Era. Finally, a complete world map of Alidaire has been completed by explorer and expert cartographer Walter Henesche. All seven continents have been discovered: Dalmaschior, Elendia, Selva, Punito, Glaciar, Tsukigata, and Berbatu. Now that every continent has become inhabited, one of the longest eras in Alidairian history has begun: the Modernization Era. In this era, experiments in developing technology surged and many institutions devoted to the cause originated. The early years were consumed with using steel to develop a multitude of things that had previously been thought impossible. When steel had reached its limit, ideas on transportation began to arise along with investigation into mana-powered machines similar to that of the Restocasians, a race of ancient beings who have complete control over the mana that flows through Alidaire. After many years of experiments accompanied by numerous successes and devastating failures, mana-powered vehicles and rudimentary airships were created which replaced the primal coach. Buildings began growing taller and being constructed from a special steel alloy. Electricity was created via conducting lightning mana through copper rods which eventually became wires. The world was evolving, but just because humanity’s way of life was changing did not mean that threats did not still exist in the world.

Tsukigata. The land of the crescent moon and fifth country/continent to be discovered. What made the area unique was the lack of indigenous monsters--Tsukigata was completely free from the threat of savage creatures. Thus, many flocked to this new country in hopes of a carefree life. However, what appears by day does not represent what appears by night...

The Kemonokage. At night, the land of Tsukigata transmogrifies into a horrific scene of disaster. The moon turns a pale yellow and seems to bleed while a blue-green light surges through the country and tints everything turquoise with a slightly more accentuated green. In this time, beasts arise from the shadows of varying shapes and sizes. Thus, they became known as the Kemonokage. Regardless, they were fairly easy to deal with because they only came out at night, so people just stayed indoors. Yet, that plan failed almost instantaneously as the Kemonokage began to break into people’s houses and killing them in their sleep. After the threat increased, the leaders of Tsukigata formed a secret group of scientists in order to perform a specific task--research the Kemonokage and find a way to inhibit them. After years of executing various ideas, the scientists discovered that the land was linked to the Alchemic Dimension of Shadow and at night, the moon unlocked a seal separating the alchemic dimension from reality which allowed for the Kemonokage to temporarily inhabit the world of mortals. The best known way to restrict shadows would be to use light which is what the scientists planned on doing. With specially constructed cannons, they fired several probes into the sky using mana to extend the range so that they would reach as high as the moon. When the probes dug into the moon, the scientists engaged a mechanism in their laboratory that sent light impulses throughout the moon, strengthening the seal. The next night, no change occurred and no Kemonokage appeared. The Tsukigatans held a grand festival that lasted throughout the night. No longer would they have to fear the darkness.

Kokoro-no-soko. The capitol city of Tsukigata. At one time, it was the city that was tormented most by the Kemonokage. When the onslaughts ended, the citizens of this city alone were probably the happiest. However, something has gone horribly wrong in this city. Changes are occurring in the night, and the shadows begin to grow restless. It will be up to those with courage to ensure that this ordeal is eliminated so that the people of Tsukigata never have to experience the anguish they did in the days of old.

This is where our story begins....

So, it's better things turned out this way. It was about to time to shake things up from Alidaire's typical semi-medieval, fantastical setting and make it into something a little more futuristic. We've still got our touch of fantasy, but things are no doubt going to be a bit different. Just send me profiles whenever. When I feel that I have enough, I'll start. Take your time with the profiles, if you want. I'm not too worried about this role play since I've got plenty of others to take care of~

[NOTE: For any that are new at the stat role play aspect, please PM me so that I may explain how things are done.]

Tales of Alidaire: The Presence Empty Re: Tales of Alidaire: The Presence

Post by Masquerade Mon Sep 13, 2010 12:36 pm

It was then that the sky began to shake, and the wave of horrid turquoise energy enveloped the city. I knew that I, along with many others, were done for.

Just after sunset...

Many people are still walking on the sidewalks and driving down the streets. Even though the sun has settled down for the night, the citizens of Kokoro-no-soko, the capital city of Tsukigata, are as energetic as ever, partying the night away or taking care of errands that could not be completed earlier. It was only possible thanks to the scientists who strengthened the seal dividing this world with that of the Alchemic Dimension of Shadow. Unfortunately, not all is what it appears to be.

Those carefree people now stopped dead in there tracks and looked up at the moon, full on this night. That wasn't what the people noticed, however; it was the fact that it had turned yellow, and a greenish-blue wave was permeating the continent below, tinting everything a similar color. Everyone who knew their history and knew it well also knew what was happening at that very moment. The Kemonokage were returning. From out of the shadows, the monsters arose and instantly began terrorizing people. The citizens ran and screamed with fright as they were pursued by the malevolent creatures.

A box. In an alleyway. In the Nishi-Hibana District. Surrounded by several creatures, interested in what was in the box.

There's no telling how they found each other at this precise moment in time, but those who have the ability to fight...

...do.

In this role play, you will be fighting against the Kemonokage. These shadow beings can take the form of anything, from that of a horrific monster to that of a common wooden chair. Just don't be surprised with what you see. Each Kemonokage carries a tag with a symbol of some sort on it that gives it an extra ability. However, when weakened, the tag becomes exposed and can be destroyed. The tags can only be destroyed when the Kemonokage in question has 10% Max HP or less. It has two effects: 1) the Kemonokage loses the ability the tag grants it, and 2) will be explained on the First Day. To destroy a tag, just use the UTC (Universal Trigger Command) Break Tag. This trigger command is always available and applies to every enemy in the game, but as previously stated, only works when the target has 10% Max HP or less. This trigger command, like others, will take up a character's Act action for the turn. Enjoy.

[NOTE: The UTC has a range of adjacent cell.]

Tales of Alidaire: The Presence Empty Re: Tales of Alidaire: The Presence

Post by Zerifachias Mon Sep 13, 2010 12:49 pm

Iris stepped onto the battlefield, looking rather confident of herself. She gave no heed to the frogs, or the Kemonokage to be accurate, but instead focused her attention on the box in the center. She felt an evil presence coming from the Kemonokage, but the box emitted no such aura. Instead, she felt a gentle, soft, and sleeping spirit resting within.

Iris is an esper. Her highly advanced mental and physical powers were truly something to be admired. However, she obtained a sort of god-complex because of it. Even so, she couldn't help but want to help whatever was in the box. Not to mention the Kemonokage were troublesome.

"You four evil spirits will be judged." Iris stated aloud.

Hazel starts at F9!

"My, it appears this has evaded our sight. That will never do. I must report on it at once."

Hazel stood next to Iris, looking fondly at the box. The frog creatures, known as the Kemonokage, didn't seem to strike her as unusual. Just creatures that wanted to cause havoc. But the box, it was something she had never even noticed before, how could it and its contents stay hidden from her sight? However it had done so, it had, and now the important thing was taking it away from the creatures. Her gaze shifted to Iris, who she had been ignoring the entire time up until now.

"You. I ask for assistance miss..."

She didn't know how to finish her sentence. Shaking her head, Hazel looked back at the box. Her gaze then quickly shifted back to the woman next to her, as if scanning her for any trace of her name. Suddenly it came to mind, the wonders of being a watcher.

"Miss Iris. I ask that we team up, I'm sure you are as curious as I as to what is inside that box there."

Nick starts at E1

"Wow, Sarg's paranoia was actually warranted this time," Nick said, shacking his head, "go figure." He gazed at his surroundings. The effect of the light on the world around him was nothing short of astounding. He always thought the history records were exaggerations of the fact or something. With a hollow thump, he un-slung his gun and let the muzzle hit the ground.

"As a member of the Diamond Crest Mercenary Guild, I cannot stand by and let Kemonokage harm an innocent... box?" He shrugged. "Ok, I'm just looking for an excuse to test this baby in the field," he patted the gun affectionately. "You frogs can serve as the test subjects."

Zorren starts at D-1.

Clink. Clink. Clink.

The soft sound of its steady footsteps against the concrete echoed slightly in the alley. It didn't breathe, didn't speak, only cast its curious head about until its unblinking gaze settled on the creatures.

Clink. Clink.

It took a couple steps closer, its form hulking over and long arms hanging by the joints in its legs. Its head gave off little metallic clicks as it turned its head to look at the human with a gun. "Zorren version oh-one ex, experimental unit. Orders?" Its voice was eerily mechanic, the only inflection when it phrased the question at the end.

"Orders?" It repeated.

[Lyn] starts at [J-9].

She wasn't quite sure what was going on. In fact, she had been returning home from Ruthas' house. Her friend had insisted she come over to try on a new outfit. Lyn took a brief moment to glance down at herself. She wouldn't lie, she rather liked the frilly dress her friend had forced onto her. But it wasn't like she would give Ruthas the satisfaction of agreeing.

Pulling out a microphone and its retractable stand, Ruthas had brought it for her for some strange reason, Lyn was somewhat displeased by the fact she felt a little thankful for the gift. Maybe she was being vindictive but she rather liked to see Ruthas' face collapse into a look of sorrow. Lyn was glad that Ruthas wasn't around because that meant she would have to thank her.

Bastian starts at G9!

"Lady Hazel, I know it is in our best intentions to retrieve the box, but we don't know what is in the bloody thing. For all we know it could be a Kemonokage. Do be careful."

Bastian looked at the box on edge ignoring any thoughts of anything gentle being inside. His focus then shifted to the Kemonokage and started doubting his statement of one of their own being inside. He feared that if the apprentice watcher checked for its contents, something might attack her and possibly wound her beyond belief. If that happened, he couldn't live with himself. He had studied the concept of watchers, and to be considered an ally and guardian to one was a great honor. He truly had feelings for her, and that made his promise to himself even more powerful. That one promise, the vow he made to himself when he met her, to protect her no matter what, to guard the one he loved.

Lunaria starts at C1.

"So here they are, it seems." Lunaria spoke to herself in a carefree tone of voice.

The anomalous yellow moon, tinting everything with an ominous aura of blue and green malevolence, was the reason she had come in there. Now that the corner of the building curved into the alleyway, the Lunar Priest not only noticed the evident Kemonokage lurking around in the early night, but an interesting-looking cardboard box too. The Kemonokage had their attentions fixed on the box, and that sparked Lunaria's curiosity. Regardless, it could be some poor homeless soul who happened be found by the vicious monsters, hidden himself or herself inside the box. Sooner or later they would notice a rather numerous party surrounding them, and it would start...

The Kemonokage seemed to give up on whatever was in the box and focus on the beings surrounding them. These particular shadow creatures took the forms of frogs. They didn't seem all that menacing; they just sat in place, heads slightly tilted, and croaking. The Kemonokage were an unpredictable sort; there was no telling what was going on inside their minds if they even had minds to begin with.

Nick studied the mechanical being next to him. He looked at his gun, then back to the machine. "Damn," he whistled softly. "I know what I want for Christmas." He sighed, then tried talking to it. "Ah, you, robot... Zorren was it? Can you go start protecting the box for me while I stay here looking awesome? Great!"

He rose the gun and rested it on his shoulder. A wind suddenly sprang up, tossing dust around and making his cloak flutter out behind him.

"Orders received. Initiating combat program." A series of clicks and whirs sounded as the fingers of the 'bot's hands transformed into solid fists with extra plating over what would be the knuckles.

Zorren initiates program Composite Knuckles [-8 MP]! [1.5 x 5 = 7.5] Atk is increased to 8.

Zorren moves to D-3.

It approached the closest creature, seeming to study it. Its glowing eyes flickered red suddenly. "Hostiles detected. Defend inanimate object." It settled into a combat stance, 'fists' held slightly higher than its leg joints.

She didn't particularly like conflict. And seeing how there was other people in the vicinity, looking ready for a fight against the frogs, Lyn supposed she could leave it to them. All she really had to do was give them all a little boost. Picking a melody, she began to hum it, getting into its rhythm. She attached the microphone to its stand and brought it to her lips, closing her eyes as she lost herself in its flow.

Iris moves to E-6

Iris moved towards the box in the center of the field, her curiosity getting the best of her. But she wouldn't be looking into the box just yet, she felt like hitting something right now, so she turned towards one of the Kemonokage. In a single, fluid motion, she pulled back her right hand, but shot her other fist forward with power.

(Damage: 100% Int/Effect: --/Element: --)

"I'm perfectly capable of handling whatever these creatures throw at us Bastian. Focus on fighting."

Hazel opened her palms, staring down at a bright blue crystal. She closed her eyes and it glowed slightly, an image appearing inside. It was that of one of her foes, not to far away, the Kemonokage that appeared to be named Corcel. Smiling slighty, Hazel focused on the image, and suddenly a beam of light shot down from the sky and shot it.

"The dark will always fear the light."

Lunaria stepped forward and summoned a Seal that hovered on her open palm, the intangible, width-less circle slowly rotating as the Lunar Priest quickly peeked on the corner before retreating back again. This time, it was her right arm that appeared around the building, the Seal charging up Holy Mana in order to launch her spell. In a matter of seconds, an oval-shaped blast of Holy Mana that headed towards the mutated frog-like monster, exploding in white, dazzling light.

Nick's Haste has 3 turns.

Zorren's Composite Knuckles fades upon program change.

Bravery has 2 turns left.

Enemy Phase.

Jaundice uses Serene Song on Nick! 6 Dmg! (INT)

MP: 9/15

Nick falls Asleep!

Cringe lowers Nick's SPR by 10%!

The frogs as a whole didn't seem too affected by the attacks of the civilians. Jaundice just ignored the interesting robot in front of him and focused on the guy with the gun. It began to croak, the sound so tranquil...it caused the marksman to fall soundly asleep!

Jaundice waits.

Waltz uses Serene Song on Iris! 6 Dmg! (INT)

MP: 9/15

Iris evades Sleep!

Cringe lowers Iris's SPR by 10%!

Waltz decided to chime right on in with a sweet-sounding croaking of his own, but it didn't seem to affect the woman in front of him. She must have been too pumped up to fall for the lull of its serene croaking.

Waltz moves to C8.

Tomas attacks ?! 6 Dmg! (INT)

Not receiving any attention by the others, Tomas decided to turn his own attention back onto the box. Strangely, he started croaking at it with...unknown effects. It was just a cardboard box...right?

Tomas waits.

Corcel is Frozen. Poor sap.

"There's no escape!" Iris growled, glaring back at the frog. She would bring her attention to the box later, right now she just wanted to punch the frog again. Iris ran back over to the frog, right hand in the air, ready to punch, but Iris quickly switched hands and slammed the frog with her left hand, sending it flying with her superior strength.

Iris moves to D-8

Zorren moves to E-4.

Zorren uses Power Punch [-6 MP] on Jaundice! 10 Atk damage.

The robot reached back, invisible pistons and gyros making themselves heard, and it practically smashed its targeted Kemonokage into the adjacent wall. If it had been human, perhaps it would have delighted in the satisfying squish it made but, feeling nothing, it simply turned to the closest hostile and waited for the precise moment to attack.

Hazel casts Stellar Rhapsody on the Enemy Party!
(Damage: 100% Int x 8/Effect: Randomized Hits/Element: --)

Hazel looked down into her crystal once more, humming a slight tune. The notes seemed to call out to the stars above, a comet streaking across the sky. One passed first, then several, and suddenly a star shower of momentous display was on for the world. Pretty it may have been, no one noticed the comets striking each of the enemies before the party.

Tales of Alidaire: The Presence Empty Re: Tales of Alidaire: The Presence

Post by Xenosaga Mon Sep 20, 2010 4:17 pm

It seemed her song hadn't done as much as she had expected it to. How unfortunate. Maybe she had chosen the wrong song? Lyn decided to take this time to look over at the ones fighting. It seemed most of them were more magically inclined. Well, what a mistake she had made. At least one of them was making good use of her song, however. That was good.

She supposed there was not much else for her do. Even if she did walk up to help, she wouldn't get very far. And the others seemed to be doing just fine. Even if some did fall asleep. She wondered if they were having nice dreams. Lyn wished she could. Her visits to Ruthas' house were always so tiring.

[Lyn] waits.

Lunaria moves to E2 (C2 - D2 - E2).

Sidestepping to the right, the Lunar Priest found herself perfectly positioned for launching another spell with her Seals to a different, unharmed enemy. Quickly, her Ancient Seal was summoned on the palm of her hand and gathered Holy Mana before firing a blast that exploded in damaging, dazzling light.

Lunaria casts Single Seal-Shot on Tomas!
MP: 9/25

Tomas takes 7 Damage, Chance of Blind!

Jaundice uses Serene Song on Lunaria! 5 Dmg! (INT)

MP: 3/15

Lunaria evades Sleep!

S-Ability Cringe activates! [Target SPR reduced by 10%]

Jaundice continued its peaceful song, attempting to lure Lunaria into a deep sleep just like Nick. Though it damaged the girl, it failed to perform its true purpose. It was a shame, but it would just have to adapt to the situation.

Jaundice waits.

Tomas attacks Nick! 8 Dmg! CRITICAL!! [from Sleep] (INT)

S-Ability Cringe activates! [Target SPR reduced by 10%]

Taking advantage of the gunner's state, Tomas croaked at him fiercely, hoping to deal more damage than normal. That was pretty much the way all the frogs battled though; it was a strategy they had adopted of their own.

Tomas waits.

Corcel is still Frozen. What a dumbass.
