Sky's Limit Empty Sky's Limit

Post by Silver Mon Apr 16, 2012 7:16 pm

Far off in the Arenthian ocean, there sits the island city of Nevoatia; a bustling port settlement free from the tyrannical rule present elsewhere in the world. However instead of aqueous ships, the ports hold large hangers filled to the brim with gigantic constructs. Within the many cradles of machinery, ships much like the ones that sail the seas outside Nevoatia rest. These are the airships. For those that command these magnificent vessels, the skies are their seas; the horizon their limit. Many people from all around the world come to this city for their very existence, most with dreams of taking flight themselves.

Aboard one of the dozen ships resting in the northernmost hanger, one vessel in particular sits humming in preparation. Men of all different shapes and sizes of different ethnicities rushed around the deck, cleaning, moving both guests and large crates underneath the ship from the port-side gangway. "Hoist the sails! We're to be in the air in five minutes!" A hearty voice rang out to the crowd of men standing on the deck. The voice belonging to a strapping man wearing a highly decorated navy colored cloak.

"Aye sir!" the crew responded whole-heartedly with bright smiles as they pushed their work into overtime. In half the time they were given the crew was all ready to go, giving the 'let's go' to set flight. With a loud whistle and gong ringing throughout the hanger, the ship's engine soon roared heavily before the metal cradle let go off the wooden vehicle. In only a short few minutes the ship was soaring through the skies, the crew able to finally relax as the ship moved through the air.

Or so they thought, for as they sailed out far past the safe reach of the island city, disaster struck. Loud caws came from the side of the ship, causing the men working aboard the airship to suddenly scurry to the sides with wide eyes. Off both sides of the ship several creatures known as Neburaco screeched as they flapped over to the airship and onto the deck. Landing with loud thuds the crew screamed as the creatures angrily lashed out at the men, most escaping below deck.

The man from earlier ended up being the only person left on deck with the creatures, a long blade at his belt drawn instantly. However valiant his efforts to combat these creatures were, it was fairly obvious that he would not be able to keep it up for long. He was doomed.

That was... if there had not been several youth that had gotten onto the ship in some way or fashion. Able youth that had some practice with combat; youth that would be able to help the older gentleman in combating these fierce creatures.

Sky's Limit Empty Re: Sky's Limit

Post by Cerani Sat Apr 21, 2012 10:03 am

Tannas pulled the bits of his red robe closer, as if they would help hide him from searching eyes. Though he didn't doubt some people were staring at his naked torso, they didn't possess the pair of violet eyes he was avoiding. Surely in this crowd, if the thief was trying to follow him, he would've lost him here. Tannas looked back, searching the rooftops as he walked. He glanced back ahead, nearly running into an older woman but stopping short of even touching her. He kept going, keeping pace with the crowd.

"You're distracted." An older voice said, ahead of him. It had to be the old woman.

Tannas raised an eyebrow, doubtful of what he just heard. "Are you speaking to me?" Who the hell was this woman, speaking to a total stranger as if they were somehow, ugh, friends.

"You're the only one distracted here. Everyone else is focused," The woman turned around, sapphire eyes closing in on him. "But you're not. Is there something wrong?"

His head tilted back slightly as his brows pulled together now. "Quite frankly, madam, it's none of your damn business. Who--you know what? Never mind. I don't care." The mage gave a sardonic smile, appearing more annoyed than he was before moving past the old woman. He had somewhere to be, and the quicker he got there, the more likely Lucan wouldn't find him. He heard her sigh before noticing she apparently had no trouble keeping up with him, her strides matching his.

"Tsk, tsk. That's better, but such behavior is unbecoming of an Elementalist."

The mage felt as if he was going to turn and assault the woman, but thought better of it. No need to hit an innocent old woman, for any reason. Still, at her comment he came to a full stop, gauntleted hand out to stop the woman as well. "Look, I will not say this again. Leave. Me. Alone." The man practically growled as he marched away, anger still not completely excised. At least the ship was in sight now.

Again, the woman showed she could keep pace, but this time moved ahead of him, head held high as she threw a comment back at him, "You should respect your elders, particularly when they have more experience than you."

Tannas' eyes narrowed dangerously. Oh, how he hated that line. He hadn't spent twenty years listening to it just so some old stranger of a woman could do it as well. But, he would be rid of her soon, never to see her again so he kept his mouth shut and scowled. The gangplank was just ahead now, and still the woman had not moved from her place two steps ahead of him. It seemed fate did not like him today he thought, watching the woman swiftly walk up the plank, her presence seeming intimidating to those not boarding. He picked up nervous chatter rising up from the crowd as they watched her make her way over to the gangplank.

"Isn't that--?"

"She must be!"

Their whispered questions were confirmed when the officer checking the would-be passengers spoke up. "Ahh, Miss Slade, its a pleasure to have you riding with us."

Tannas slowly rubbed a hand over his face. Slade. That could only mean Aria Slade, overseer of the whole Elementi guild. Though he wasn't about to go and grovel at her feet like some crazed fan, he did feel like an idiot. He crossed the gangplank, eyes cast straight ahead of him. The officer had checked him out the day before, likely he wouldn't forget what the mage looked like. As he stood on deck waiting for takeoff, he noticed the guildmaster turn to him again with a prideful smile. "You'll have to remind me to dock Lady Ashe's pay; she doesn't seem to be teaching her subordinates proper manners."

His mouth curled into a semblance of a rueful smile. "Nothing to do with her, I'm just the black sheep." He crossed his arms, amazed his old gauntlet was actually gleaming in the sunlight.

She raised an eyebrow at him, but nodded after a moment, as if just accepting his behaviour for what it was. She waited another minute before speaking to him again. "Forgive me, but I've not heard much of my lower subordinates. What is your name?"

"Tannas." was all he replied, looking out over the crowds and hoping Lucan wouldn't suddenly appear. He wasn't sure he could leave again if the other man did happen to be standing on one of the roofs, giving him that stunned look that he wouldn't admit really hurt.

"Oh!"

He stopped his worried searching for the moment to turn and give Aria his own eyebrow raise again. He hadn't expected her to even sound as if she recognized him. "Oh?" he asked. Was he really that bad, to the point even the guildmaster knew of him?

"I've heard from Lady Ashe about your training." She answered with a small smile. "Though your attitude could use a little work, you show promise." She explained her previous statement rather plainly. After yet another moment, however, her eyes shifted to one of minor displeasure. "I'm afraid your focus might be a problem." She looked out over at the crowd of people who were just watching the ship, murmuring. "Whoever is distracting you, is not good for your training."

Tannas almost laughed when the older woman said 'promising', of all things. That was a joke if he'd ever heard one, because apparently his failures in the craft were so great even the guildmaster knew of them. But her comment about Lucan sent him back into burning anger and worry. He scowled deeply, having the presence of mind not to start burning the ship and instead leaning on the deck's railing. "He has been the only thing keeping me alive, so damn your focus." Actually he wouldn't doubt if Lucan was watching him right now, but keeping to himself. The mage huffed quietly, moving away from the crowd and Aria to the prow of the ship. Aria's chuckle carried to him, but at this point he didn't care what she said.

Not long after his little spat, the ship took off finally. Tannas leaned on his arms, looking down at the rolling oceans below. It was actually kind of relaxing, if he had been into that sort of thing. Maybe this job wouldn't be so bad, and when he got back he could tell the crazy thief that there was nothing to worry about. However, as fate would have it today, things did not go Tannas' way as the cloudy dragon-like creatures stormed the ship. The crew scattered below decks, the mage rolling his eyes as they did so and joining the captain. He didn't say anything, only cracked his knuckles and readied himself for fighting something bigger than a rogue canine.

Sky's Limit Empty Re: Sky's Limit

Post by Zerifachias Sat Apr 21, 2012 10:46 am

A tall, blond man stands about two meters away from a large engine aboard the ship that was going to be taking off soon. It is his job to make sure it is working properly with as little possible errors. His electric blue eyes examine every square inch of the engine, from the converters to the lifters, the springs and the ticks, even the clocks have to be set perfectly in order. One kink in the system would mean a trip down to the afterlife.

"As if there even is an afterlife," the man mutters to himself, scoffing at his own thoughts. He brings a hand up to his bare chin and rubs it. His blue jumpsuit matches his eyes, and a wrench-and-screwdriver cross patch is sewed to his chest. On his belt he carries a rather hefty wrench that has accumulated some rust over years of use.

This is Dimmer Star Eternal, more commonly known as Dim. The Eternal family is one filled to the brim with talented and dedicated people, and Dim is no exception. However, Dim is the odd one of the bunch, as he is a very lazy, self-gratifying type of person. Dim admits that he loves what he does, and he does it when it is needed, but other than that, his laziness gets the better of him nine times out of ten.

Dimmer looks down at the clipboard in his hands and checks off the last box on the list: "Overall Inspection." He signs the bottom of the paper and allows his hands to cross, still keeping the clipboard in hand. Dim looks at the entire engine now, making final, precautionary inspections to make sure he doesn't forget anything.

"Good enough," Dimmer says, nodding his head once. A half-frown forms on his lips, "I suppose we can take off now." Dimmer looks around the room, hoping to spy one of his little attendants. What luck! One of the female mechanics walks in just as Dimmer turns around. And it's his subordinate too, little Jane, or Rabbit as Dimmer calls her.

"Ah, Rabbit," Dimmer calls to the girl, who jumps at hearing his voice and scuttles back a little, her nose wiggling left and right. The reason Dimmer calls this girl Rabbit is fairly obvious. She is easily spooked, and her abnormal silver hair falls in two long strands, like rabbit ears. "Perfect timing, I need you to go and tell the Captain that we're ready for take-off. The engine and all the back-up machines have been examined thoroughly and are working at their best." Dimmer tells Rabbit, who pauses for only a second before nodding and running off to convey his message.

And now, Dimmer can rest.

...For a little while, at least. An hour or so after take-off, Dimmer is woken by the sounds of screeching and screaming, much to his discontent. He gets off his cot and walks up towards the bridge, wondering what could possibly be going wrong at this time. This is the point in time which Dimmer regrets the most, as he is actively searching for whatever trouble they might have. Because when Dimmer arrives on the bridge, he groans and sees the trouble.

Of all things to go wrong, it just had to be monsters.

Sky's Limit Empty Re: Sky's Limit

Post by Kurio Sat Apr 21, 2012 3:52 pm

Yuri took a deep breath as she stared out at the open sky around her. She had sneaked onto the airship in order to kill a member of the Xue family. Her name was Meili, and she proved no trouble at all. Now she was standing here, on the deck of the airship wearing her red oriental garb but no mask. Hopefully Yuri cleaned up the scene well enough that they wouldn't be able to track her.

Yuri reached into her bag and took out a small piece of paper. Her next job was to reach the airship's destination and sneak off the vessel without being detected. Once there, she would have to find another member of the Xue family, Anemone, and kill her too.

Yuri sighed again, but before she could think about anything else she heard a commotion over on the other side of the deck. The ship was being attacked.

Sky's Limit Empty Re: Sky's Limit

Post by Masquerade Sat Apr 21, 2012 5:43 pm

Abysmal gaze resting listlessly upon the large flying vessel before her, Sonata kept her feet firmly planted on the ground. The blazing rays of the sun made her eyes reflective, like little pools of violet water. She was a siren--a creature of myth, but one very real, for there she stood. Sonata had traveled greatly through every body of water on the planet, and quite a few of the lands. Many treasures she had come across in the underwater world, and collected them as most sirens did. There were a few that stuck to legend and lured sailors to their deaths and stole their treasures, but there was always something nifty underwater just waiting to be gathered. However, the land and water became tiresome. Sonata was rather whimsical for a siren, doing as she pleased when she do deigned, though it wasn't easy to tell this from her rather calm demeanor.

The siren boarded the airship after many more moments of gazing upon it. She knew there were many people admiring her beauty, and the fact that she was barefoot. It was something she was used to. Whenever she traveled among human populations, she was often the center of attention. Her dress, black in hue and covered in shells and starfish, had sparked some conversations with fashion specialists, one of which she met as she began wandering about the deck waiting for liftoff. The woman designer was rather intrigued by the dress and inquired about siren fashion. Sonata indulged the woman with tidbits of information, but mainly just tried to let her talk. She preferred to listen anyway.

It wasn't long before warnings were given about imminent takeoff. The fashion designer Sonata was speaking with set about trying to play with the siren's hair, so she firmly told the woman to get lost, though in more polite words. The woman blushed and rushed off a bit embarrassed. Sonata approached the edge of the deck and placed her hands on the railing, looking out over the sky. There she was. It was one place she hadn't explored, though she knew there would not be much there. Regardless, it was still something she wished to see. She had sold some of her treasures for a ticket aboard which didn't set her back at all. Tickets were pricy, but having done such extensive traveling and treasure collecting, it barely put a dent in her purse. She neglected to bring any treasures with her, and she left her good weapon back at her grotto. Trouble was something she hadn't been expecting, but sure enough...

A long while passed, and Sonata had not taken her eyes off the passing clouds and azure expanse that was the sky. A raucous sounded from behind her. The ship was being attacked by winged creatures...something she found somewhat appropriate. Many sea ships she had been upon were attacked by monsters of the sea as well, so why would an airship be any different? Silence surrounded her immediate vicinity and a rather lackluster saber appeared in her hand. She turned slowly to face the menaces. It seemed as though there were others bold enough to fight back as well.

"It is always pleasant to see brazen people."

Sky's Limit Empty Re: Sky's Limit

Post by Silver Sat Apr 21, 2012 8:23 pm

As the youth began to surround the previously solitary line... or rather man of defense, the Captain eased. "I must thank you," his voice was rather calm despite the four dragons that inched closer to the gathered group "Gods know I wouldn't be able to fend them off myself." With thanks given, he made a defensive swipe at one of the approaching feathered reptiles, only to have it release a gale that knocked him back slightly; though he remained upright.

"Best be careful, children." Though they were not really children, they were, for the most part, much younger than he was... or so they appeared at least. The man dashed forward and made another swipe at the dragon, only to have two others come to its aid in blowing him back, this time knocking him off of his feet. Muttering something about maintaining his balance and upper-hand against these 'demons,' he got back to his feet once more and dashed forward yet again. However, a hearty cry caused him to halt in his tracks, looking over the airship's port side in the direction of the vocalization.

"Having trouble there old man?" From the previously mentioned side of the ship, a young woman zipped through the air. Dressed in an crazed, free-flowing fashion, with long hair the color of the skies around her darted through the air; she seemed to be riding the air current on the strangest of objects. Before anyone could say or do anything in response to her sudden appearance, the woman was upon them, landing on the deck for a brief moment.

Grabbing what she had been riding on and taking an offensive position she suddenly shot forward like an arrow. Flinging the weapon around erratically, it was surprising to note that the rigid weapon broke apart into many segments; pieces which lashed out and followed her quick movements easily. Her target soon became clear as the nearest of the Neburaco soon found itself under brutal assault, endless slashes making deep cuts on its body. When the woman was done, she expertly darted back around to the group, smiling confidently as the creature fell forward in a bloody heap.

It was dead.

"Now that's what I like to see!" She cheered, pumping her fist in the air as if she had taken them all down. However, her actions were short lived as the dragons screeched, causing the strange woman to settle down if for a moment. Looking to the rest of the would-be fighters, she just grinned widely. "What say you we make a game of this? The one who defeats the most of them wins!" Without waiting for a reply she charged forward, raring to go.

As weird as she was, it was obvious a battle was still necessary.

Tannas starts in I - 7.

The mage had started gathering energy in his hands so that he could draw his glyphs, but was interrupted when this . . . woman flew up to the deck and laid waste to one of the flying creatures. At the last second, he noticed his hands starting to burn and quickly released the excess energy. Tannas was ready now.

Yuri starts at cell I-6

Yuri pulled her cloth mask over the bottom half of her face and readied her two peculiar-looking weapons. She closed her eyes and took a few deep breaths, as if she was meditating. As she did, her hands were enveloped in two different auras. The left hand was a very bright glow while the right hand had a shadowy dark aura. Then she moved her hands in front of her, the auras leaving a glowing trail in the air. When she was finished a figure presented itself; a circle with a curved line down the middle splitting the figure into a dark side and a light side with a small spot of the opposite color on each side.

The auras faded from her hands and she was now ready to fight.

Sonata starts at I4.

So there they were. The siren had taken a few sultry steps away from the side of the ship, saber at her side. A new person had appeared out of nowhere, intent to fight as well, though this was no game. These were real people in real danger, granted she wasn't so worried about herself. She said nothing to this woman's aspirations in accordance with defeating the monsters, but kept her expression unreadable, trying greatly to keep a slight smirk from sneaking upon her pale visage. Her sharp eyes focused on the monsters they were going to be battling. The opposition was outnumbered. With so many people volunteering to fight back, they were sure to have the odds tipped in their favor.

"This brings back so many memories," Sonata said softly to herself, readying her saber for attack. There was no time now to have her guard down.

Dimmer stares at all of these people, joining together to do battle against these dragons. These people are insane! Dimmer's pale skin grew even paler as he watches the captain attempt to kill one of the dragons. Eventually, a stranger woman comes along and fells one of the dragons by herself.

"You have got to be kidding me," Dimmer blurts out, quickly covering his mouth. He did not want anybody to hear what he was saying. The last thing Dimmer wants is to be considered a coward, which in all honesty, he is. Dimmer makes sure he is far, far away from the attention of the battlefield. There is no telling what will happen to him if he got closer.

Sky's Limit Empty Re: Sky's Limit

Tannas moves to G-7.

The energy in the mage's hands had changed to a bright green that trailed from his fingertips. He was already starting to draw two glyphs, but the delicate symbols were shattered when Tannas heard a shout from the upper level of the bridge.

"Focus, Tannas."

"Lady! Back off!" He shouted, angrily starting over and drawing them one in front of the other. He took in deep breaths as he created them, having learned long ago that anger was not his fuel, despite his vast stores of it. When he was calm(er), the mage pushed the two glyphs closer together, pulling them closer to his chest and picking his target. The closest dragon creature seemed a fine one, so he set one leg back for balance and shoved the two glyphs out. Two considerable pieces of jagged rock flew out and pierced the animal. Tannas stood ready to move if it decided to come after him or attack again if not.

Tannas casts Earth [-10 MP] on Cumulus, twice! 6 Int (Earth) damage, two hits! Both have a 10% chance to be Piercing!

MP: 7/15

Yuri kept her eyes closed, clearing her mind of all the distractions around her. Her body fell still and silent, as she appeared to become almost translucent. Within seconds the assassin's body seemed to have completely faded away, now neither her enemies nor her allies could see her now.

Sky's Limit Empty Re: Sky's Limit

Post by Zerifachias Sun Apr 22, 2012 1:57 pm

These people really are insane enough to go up against these beasts. Dim stares incredulously at the people beginning to fight these large bird-like creatures. Something catches his eyes, through his peripheral vision. Well, maybe not, because Dim swore he saw five people on deck before, and now there is only four others. One of them disappeared, and Dim is not in the best mood to deal with such things.

"I have to get out of here...these people are nuts..." Dimmer mutters to himself, his face paling as he attempts to step back. No use, he is hardly able to move from his spot. Frantically looking around, Dim spots something else out of the corner of his eye.

The men who left the deck left the cannons on either side of the ship open and armed, ready to be fired. Dimmer knows he has more knowledge of machines like these cannons than everyone else on board the ship, because he actually examined every inch of the machine before take-off. Firing it should be easy, right?

"Even if I do fire it, those things aren't nearly close enough for me to hit them," Dimmer says quietly, speaking only to himself. He does not like being this close to danger, but if he gets to those cannons, then...

Dimmer moves to I-3

Sky's Limit Empty Re: Sky's Limit

Sonata moves to F4.

The others who had decided to take a stand against these flying beasts began to launch their own assaults. She observed their methods sharply. A master of stealth. A practitioner of magic. A rather odd fellow who didn't seem sure of what to do, but seemed like he didn't want to be there in the first place. Posture prim and perfect, standing tall and cutting a wondrous figure, Sonata bravely walked forth, taking a place in close proximity to the beasts, saber held slightly at an angle at her side. It was time. Sonata closed her eyes and opened her mouth. What came out was astounding. It was a song like no other, first, it had no words; it was just music, raw and flowing, but her wondrous voice added life through lyrics in an unknown language, but the meaning was evident in the hearts of those who heard:

Oh, brazen sailors,
on this night, come to me.
In my arms and in my song
embrace your destiny.

Happiness forever
yours beneath the sand,
peace of mind, unknowing,
together hand in hand.

Now your thoughts be fading,
no sense in the fear.
I'll take care of the shell left behind--
holding it so dear.

Gentle soul, now sleep away,
never to wake on another day.

The air wavered as she sang, her voice not only sounding beautiful, but almost commanding as well. More distortions appeared as the notes hit the ears of the foes. A great drowsiness could be seen in there eyes. Sonata stopped her song and analyzed them all. They were all in range. "Now, will they succumb to true peace, I wonder..." she said quietly and confidently to herself.

Sonata uses Siren's Song! Affects all enemies! [Chance of Sleep]

Victorine uses Freedom Lift on herself! Bestows Haste!

The woman, suddenly back on her rush of energy, launched herself into the air like an acrobat. A sudden blast of wind caused her to surge forward at an even faster speed than she had used to make it to her previous location. In second she had zipped around the creature that had been in her path and settled in the middle of them. "Let's get this started!"

Sky's Limit Empty Re: Sky's Limit

Post by Cerani Mon Apr 23, 2012 2:55 pm

Tannas moves to G-6.

Things were fine so far. No one was screaming in pain, one of the monsters was dead and another was asleep. The fully conscious one was nowhere near him so he wouldn't have to worry about it. One problem however was that Tannas knew he didn't have the energy to pull off another stunt like before, and it would be a while before his cycles returned to normal. "Wonderful." he muttered, drawing up another jagged glyph.

Tannas casts Earth [-10 MP] on Stratus! 6 Int (Earth) damage! Has a 10% chance to be Piercing.

Yuri moves to cell E-6

Yuri, now undetected by the monsters, made her move. She dashed straight forward, her footsteps so light and swift that no one could hear it on the wooden deck. And although no one could see her physical form, they would have most definitely saw the blood spewing out of one of the creatures along with two large gashes from which the blood came from.

Sky's Limit Empty Re: Sky's Limit

Post by Zerifachias Mon Apr 23, 2012 5:52 pm

Dimmer looks around the cannon, examining the surface of the machine. It is fairly powerful, but there seems to be an issue with the range on it. Even if Dimmer decides to use it, he would have to move it closer in order to get in range of the Neburaco, and that is a bit of an impossibility. Though Dimmer is strong for his size, not even his muscles would be able to shift the cannon so much as a centimeter.

Dimmer's thoughts then are interrupted, as the sounds of music reaches his ears. He looks back, and sees the beautiful form of the siren, her posture upright and proud, singing in a loud, clear voice. The words are in a language he doesn't understand, but the meaning of the words become clear as Dim watches two of the three Neburaco fall asleep. Dim didn't focus on the music though, he is more interested in that sleek, curvy body the siren owns. For awhile, Dim stares at the woman, but his thoughts are interrupted again when he sees something strange.

One of the giant bird-things is bleeding. From a side that no one else is close to. Why was this thing bleeding? These were obviously slash marks, and only a few of the people here could have made those marks. But no, no one was close enough, and no one else was even focusing on that particular bird besides the man with the magical, flying rocks.

"Does anyone else see that?" Dim asks tentatively, "That bird is bleeding from a side no one touched. What the fuck?" Dim looks around, hoping that someone, anyone, would share in his confusion. But with this group? That isn't very likely to happen.

"I definitely don't want to be here right now," Dimmer mutters to himself, looking around at the ones who are fighting, "Let these people take care of the damn birds, I don't want any part of this." Dimmer refocused on the cannon, scanning it with an expert eye. It doesn't make much sense to him to have a mid-range cannon, substituting for power. And now that Dim is really looking over the thing, it isn't even all that powerful. It would take more than just a few shots to kill one of those birds. Dim would be better off walking up to one and bashing it with his wrench a few times.

Which he will never do. Probably.

Dimmer waits.

Sky's Limit Empty Re: Sky's Limit

Post by Masquerade Mon Apr 23, 2012 6:05 pm

Sonata moves to E4.

Two had fallen into a slumber, but one of those very two had been destroyed. The other that had fallen to the effects of her song was already under strong assault. There was someone shouting from behind and she turned to gaze at the man with her solemn violet eyes, but they softened a bit and she smirked. "There is no need to grow so unsettled by that which we cannot see. It is the fear of the unknown that leads man to doing many things that they regret later on in their short lives," she explained, her voice still elegant, and her tone was a kind one, not reprimanding at all. She turned on her heel sharply thinking her words would be enough to calm the fellow. One of the others combating the beasts surely caused the injury. Who and how were not important questions at the moment.

Walking forward, Sonata stopped short before the closest winged creature, saber at the ready. Her arm swished through the air twice, her blade aimed at the creature's limbs. It was a grand strategy of hers, and a few other sirens, to lure beasts to sleep and then disable them by removing their limbs with sharp weapons. Physical assaults typically caused sleeping beasts to awaken, but even if they did, it would matter not if they had no limbs with which to counter. Sonata counted on her blade to strike true. Not lowering her guard, she stood her ground and prepared for more fighting.

Sonata uses Twin Slice on Cirrus! 2 hits! 5 Dmg per hit! [Chance of Disable]

Sky's Limit Empty Re: Sky's Limit

Victorine gaped as the first of the creatures fell, her having done nothing to help bring it down. All she had done thus far was make herself a little speedier, which really had no affect on the enemy party... yet. Readying her weapon, she quickly thrust it forward, the edges becoming rigid again as she struck the bird-dragon. But it did not stop there, for the girl was quick to detract the edges from their solid state and lash the bird as she pulled out from it.

Sky's Limit Empty Re: Sky's Limit

Post by Cerani Mon Apr 23, 2012 8:34 pm

Tannas waits.

Letting the energy lighting up his hands fade out, Tannas made a point of not responding to Slade. If he was being totally honest, he'd admit that he hadn't expected his first fight to go so well. To be perfectly honest, he'd expected to wake up three days later in a hospital, if that. Now, as far as he could tell the battle was pretty much over, and he could relax. He stretched his arms out, supposing he ought to give the others a fair warning his little display was done. "I'm out, nothing left for now."

Those words from the siren don't help. In fact, Dimmer refuses to look back at the woman until he calms down. Fear of the unknown makes men do stupid shit? Well, that's only partly true. Dim remembers his older sister saying something similar, but with a little addition of her own.

"Fearing something that you can't actually see is fucking stupid. You're an idiot," Sariska told him, "But, I suppose there is some sanity in you. Some people will try to tell you that fear of the unknown will make you do stupid shit, but Dim, that theory is based on a set number of circumstances. If you ever think that something is not as it should be, you better fucking pay attention to it. I swear, if you get killed by some stupid mistake because you weren't paying attention, I'll revive your dead body and kill you again myself."

And Dim believed every word Sariska said. He still believes, even though she was far, far away from this place. Again, Dimmer looks over to where he saw the cuts on one of the beasts appear, and scans the nearby area with a scrutinizing eye. There! He catches a glimpse of a small figure, shimmering in the reflection of the sun. There, someone is there. But, for some reason or another, he or she is practically invisible. That is okay, Dimmer can deal with something like that.

Dimmer looks over at the creatures again, and now sees that most of them are down, with one still flying, just out of reach of everyone's attacks. The one with the magical, flying rocks ran out of steam, apparently, so now there are no long-ranged fighters of the group. Or so it appeared, anyway.

Dim hesitates, looking at the Neburaco flying just outside the ship's side, where no one can reach it. Well, almost no one. Dimmer could reach it. All he'd have to do...

Dim commandeers the machine, the cannon, and turns it so that it faces the bird flying, just barely in range of the cannon. Dim aims the machine carefully, he only has one shot to use, because, while he knows how to load and fire the cannon, there aren't any spare charges lying about. Grinning like a madman, Dim lights the fuse to fire the cannon.

Dimmer uses Trigger Command: Open Fire! on the cannon at I-2! Target: Cirrus

Sky's Limit Empty Re: Sky's Limit

Yuri waits

The other creature was no longer within striking distance, and from the looks of it it would flee now. There was no way most of the people on this ship would be catching it. If it fled, there was nothing they could do to stop it. That cannon fire would hit, but if the monster was even somewhat intelligent it would run away from it.

"There are some things that one simply does not have the power to achieve." Yuri said out loud, mostly to herself. Her voice was strangely soft and feminine, not what you would expect from a trained assassin.

Sonata waits.

With a decent amount of content, Sonata kept her sharp eyes trained on the fleeing beast as her saber vanished from sight of its own accord. She heard words coming from nearby; it was the one the apparent bombardier or machinist had been so worried about. A woman, from the sound of her voice. "I could not agree more," she allowed herself a response, for there was great truth in those words. Even if she were to sing another song, there would be nothing to gain from it. The sleeping beast would tumble to the ground beyond their reach. Unable to do anything thanks to her precise attack, it seemed to have learned its lesson. She knew not much about the lore of the monsters of the air. Their behavior. Their community...

And she cared not for the moment. She crossed her arms and continued to observe. Reflecting back on the past, just staring out across open seas or sky...it was something did quite a lot of. "To watch is to gain wisdom. Not many can claim to know what I know," she whispered gently to herself, rubbing one of her arms slightly. The battle hadn't taken much out of her at all except the effort she needed from her mana. Other than that, she was doing rather fine.
