The Northern Wind Empty The Northern Wind

The land of Menitiros has certainly seen better days. The second largest continent in the world, Lodis, had been known for its everlasting peace among the nations. They had never been part of a large-scale war ever since the end of the Ragnarok War and the forming of the Lodisian Alliance five hundred years ago. But ever since the renegade group known as the Seven Sinners had made themselves known, their actions had begun to rekindle the flames of war. The Lodisian Alliance, made up of seven different nations-states, now faces a civil war among themselves in six of their nations.

In the seventh nation, Balmamusa, there was no war going on between its people. The nation was far enough north and completely isolated from the other nations by the Balmamusa Sea that they managed to be able to escape most of the civil war. And even when the other nations attempt to reach to the kingdom for aid, traveling through the howling winds and endless snowstorms in the frozen tundra for several days proves to be too great a feat for them.

However, Balmamusa was not with its own worries. The late king's daughter, Princess Cordelia, had disappeared on the day after he father's unexpected death. For two weeks they've searched for her, but the child was nowhere to be found within the city. Fearing for the young princess's safety and well-being, the queen hired several travelers to form a search party to look for the lost princess.

This is a RP I made to one, get a few more active public RPs out there, two, show Nano (Kanata) the ropes of statistical rps, and three, test out a new mechanic I may or may not want to implement in my current and future RPs. In addition to Nano, I'll be accepting one or two more people. Maybe three if I feel like it.

So Evd and Crit are pretty self explanatory, one is your chance to dodge and the other is your chance to critical. Bio stands for Biorhythm, and its the mechanic I mentioned earlier that I wanted to test out. Biorhythm is essentially how your character is feeling, we all have our ups and downs which sometimes can affect our performance, and in a battle it would be no different. Biorhythm is displayed in a percentage also, and can range anywhere from Neutral (0%), Best (50%), or Worst (-50%). Now, think of Biorhythm as an endless wavy line, and your current Biorhythm as a dot on that line. As time passes, that dot will move along the wavy line, hitting the top, then back down to neutral, then to rock bottom, and so on and so forth. Usually it starts at 0%, but depending on the situation the starting position of your Biorhythm may change.

How does Biorhythm change you ask? Well, Biorhythm naturally changes at a rate of 10% per turn, but actions in battle also may have minor effects on Biorhythm. For example, if a character inflicts 25% max HP damage or more to an enemy with one attack/ability, their biorhythm would increase by 2-3%. 50% or more with one attack/ability would be roughly 5%. And K.O.ing an enemy would also grant 5% to Biorhythm, scoring an Overkill would grant 10%. But the reverse is true as well, your character will lose a little bit of their Biorhythm with each enemy attack they take. So in battles, a character's Biorhythm will likely fluctuate all over the place. Also, if a character's Biorhythm hits the top (50%) or rock bottom (-50%), the Biorhythm will stabilize for one turn and will not be able to be changed by any means.

Now onto the next question, what does Biorhythm do? That's a very good question, Biorhythm mostly affects your character's Crit and Evd stats, for each 5% of Biorhythm, the character receives a 1% bonus to both Crit and Evd, which adds up to being 10% at max Biorhythm, which is quite a bit. But again, the reverse is also true, negative Biorhythm will reduce the character's Crit and Evd. Another thing is that at 35% your character will inflict 10% more damage and take 10% less damage, and at -35% your character will take 10% more damage and inflict 10% less. And at the extremes (50%/-50%) your character will inflict/take 20% more damage and take/inflict 20% less damage. The last thing Biorhythm affects is that it acts as a restraint for D-Abilities. D-Abilities will only be able to be used at 25% or higher Biorhythm and furthermore after using a D-Ability your Biorhythm is immediately reduced by 50% regardless of any effects placed on you.

All of these numbers in the Biorhythm mechanic is subject to change, and they're probably going to have to change quite a few times for me to balance things out. ^^

On the frozen plains of Balmamusa several miles away from the nearest city, there were a small group of travelers treading through the deep snow. Travelers in Balmamusa was already a rare sight to see, but what's even rarer is that these travelers were all the way out here, far from any civilization. The lack of any kind of food source, along with the biting cold and unforgiving snowstorm, was enough to drive almost anyone away from the general vicinity. But apparently it wasn't the case with this group, they had a task to complete.

Among the group was a rather large fellow. He was at least a foot taller than everyone else, and every inch of his massive build was covered in muscle. He had on a studded brown leather vest, a very large belt, black wool pants, as well as a long red cape. In his hand was a battle-axe with one of its two sides broken off. His long golden hair was partly covered by the round metal helmet he wore. He was undoubtedly the oldest out of the group, as the look in his eyes told of his vast experience that came with his age.

Stopping after several hours of nonstop hiking, the man turned around to the rest of the group, his eyes glanced from one to the next.

"Is everyone still alright, or do we need a rest?" the man asked, his tone of voice belonging to that of a natural leader's.

The snow, the mission, the temperature. It was all dull and pointless to the woman who appeared to be gliding on icy dunes. She was unaffected by it all, indifferent to what was asked of her and what she was doing. For her it was just something to pass the time before she moved on.

The man turned to her and the others in her group, unlike her they were more than likely here because they wanted to be. She tilted her head at his question, did they want to rest? There would be no point, it was warmer for the others to keep walking, and the wind was still blowing. The wind was definitely still blowing.

"The wind continues to blow, let us move on."

It had come to pass that the creature had nowhere to go. He had not even thought he would survive. A product of experiments on magickal weaponry, he, labeled Waltz IV, was deemed a failure and literally tossed into the dumpster behind the laboratory, left to waste away into oblivion. However, what they did not expect was for the experiment to develop a will to live, and thus escaped the confines of the garbage receptacle. At first, the creature would come to develop a severe hatred against those who created and abandoned him. It was for this reason that he crafted a scheme to get back at them. He would train himself in the dark arts, bolstering his magickal abilities, and then charge in to destroy that which so deigned to create what he would ultimately become: an unstoppable magick-wielding weapon.

As time went on, the creature realized that there was no logic behind revenge. It was all driven by a fierce sentiment that was holding him back from embracing a new life of his own, and thus he abandoned his plans after gaining a limited knowledge and affinity for shadow magicks. Not knowing what to do with himself afterwards, he learned of a need for travellers to find what happened to be a missing princess, so Waltz gladly signed himself up for braving the harsh cold and conditions to find this important character. He was teamed up with others, whom he would come to trust in due time, and they set off in their search. They endured many hours of hiking through the merciless terrain when an offer for a break was voiced by the impromptu leader.

"This withered soul need not rest," Waltz said, his voice very deep, weighed down with wisdom that would normally be associated with age, but in reality, he was fairly young. "I do say that it would be perfectly reasonable to continue moving. Stopping to rest in these conditions would not mean much overall," he concluded, nodding his head.

The little student's head was darting around, as though noticing things nobody else seemed to. Constantly preoccupied with the snowstorm around her, again, as though noticing something inside of it nobody else was. As her mind wondered and her head flicked in such a way that it would appear she was experiencing something surreal--something new and unbelievable, the seemed-to-be-leader turned to the group and addressed them.
Of course, she hadn't noticed, and bumped right into him, stumbling back into the snow and glancing up at him apologetically. "Oh! I...I'm sorry!" she squeaked before quickly getting up and brushing the ice cold snow from her rune-covered outfit.
She was here to study the areas the group came across and act as the magical ruins expert--being highly trained in not magic itself, but the language of magic.
This is her senior project to finally graduate from the academy and go on into Hallow Insignia--the highest end runeologist's college in the world.

The large man nodded in response to the others, he had a strange group of companions here, a woman who can command the wind, a cloaked creature of some sort, and a schoolgirl that just ran into him.

"Very well, we shall continue onward." the man said, turning to continue on their way, "However, do tread lightly. The beasts here are infamous for their savagery, and have claimed many lives of unprepared travelers."

As if right on cue, the sound of a long wolf howling came from far away. Moments later, the howling came again, closer, and this time two more wolves joined the first in its howl. Through the snowstorm, the group could see the rough shadows of three wolves circling them, stopping in unison to join together in one more howl before approaching the group. The wolves had snow white fur, glinting yellow eyes, and salivating jaws full of sharp fangs. There was no way to escape now, they were surrounded.

It seemed ill-fated winds blew for them that day, but they wouldn't be allowed to last. Paying little mind to the wolves that had appeared, the seemingly young woman just closed her eyes and nodded. She might have been able to get rid of these creatures by herself if the wind in this area were stronger. But alas there was little she could do about that for now, and so she would have to work together with her teammates. Opening her aqua colored eyes she nodded, obviously ready for the fight that was thrust upon them.

Just as Dovahkiin had warned them about the savage beasts, said savage beasts decided to rear their heads. Waltz took hold of his rod which began surging with dark energy. "No worries. Our combined might will be more than a match for them," he said confidently, scanning the surroundings quickly. Nothing but snow and wolves. Of which I shall steep into eternal darkness....mwahahaha... he thought, his eyes lighting up in joy at the thought, though it was unnoticeable, for his eyes were always glowing, yellow in color.

As she hears the roars, she instantly jumps to the large man's size. His towering presence a feeling of safety. As she calms down slightly, she speaks.
"So, what now? I don't think it'll be easy to defend ourselves, and it's not right to kill these poor animals..." She sighed and shook her head. She knew all too well these people won't listen to her.
Instead, she bends down and begins drawing in the snow.

The man took his large axe in both hands and fixed his attention on one of the wolves, the one directly in front of him. He was the closest target, and hopefully, the bloodthirsty wolf would preoccupy himself with the warrior king instead of his much more frail allies. He took a deep breath, then out came a loud booming voice.

"In the name of Odin, we fight and win!" Dovahkiin bellowed out one of his common morale boosting shouts he often said before a battle, despite the fact that none of his allies were his kinsmen and would likely not be able to understand it.

Waltz waved a single clawed hand over the end of his rod and watched as the dark energy surrounding the thing seemed to amplify in strength, resonating with his mind and soul. "Mercy shall be the last thing these savage beast shall be getting from me," Waltz said, still glaring with that look in his eyes. In truth, he wanted to protect his allies, but there was an ulterior motive to him going all out in this battle, and that was to get back into the groove of using his magick, something he had abstained from for a while after deciding to give up on getting revenge.

Dovahkiin gave the wolf that just clawed him an angry glare. It was rather fortunate that the beast's strike did not leave a large enough wound to be badly bleeding, otherwise things may turn out to be slightly bothersome. Raising his battle-axe into the air, the warrior king brought the large weapon down on the puny wolf. A bone cracked, but that didn't seem to be enough to kill it.

Era suddenly jumped away from her prior positioning, but she didn't fall back to the earth below. Rather, she floated, pushed by a sudden wind current to a brand new positioning. But she didn't land there, staying suspended in midair easily. Glaring down at the wolf that had attacked last turn, she took in a breath and let it out. And then her fans were thrust forward, each one making a cut before the a controlled breeze brought them back to her.

Focusing his mind, Waltz cast his spell, his entire body surging with dark energy for but a fleeting moment. A blast of dark lightning struck down on the wolf that appeared to be everyone's primary target. The energy vanished and he prepared to cast once again. One wolf fell from the joint efforts of Dovahkiin and the other two, however one of them seemed to be still just drawing on the snow, completely unaware of the situation. That kind of unawareness might get her killed some day. But there was no time to be worrying about others, as the two wolves both attacked him. Apparently he had drawn their attention, and is now the prime target of their vicious assault. One of them even left a bloody gash on his right arm. Enraged, Dovahkiin shouted out in his loud booming voice and swung the half-broken battle-axe at the beast.

Era suddenly shot off away from the group, riding the wind over to the edge of the battlefield. She stopped in midair as she finally reached position, but her actions didn't end there. Spinning around gracefully, an arc of wind was formed and fired off. The wolf nearest the wind maiden met with the strong gale.

Effective teamwork led to the demise of one wolf in nothing but an instant. Now the attacks were more spread out, so he chose a random target at will which happened to be Dovahkiin's target. He waved a hand over his rod and his entire body became surrounded by dark energy for a second before black lightning struck down on the wolf from above, an added touch of poison tinging the end of the bolts. It was a signature of shadow magick to have some pretty nasty side effects on the target. It was something that had attracted Waltz to that type of magick.

He was badly bleeding, this fight will have to end quickly, otherwise he would fall. And without him as a shield, his much more frail allies would easily be overrun by the vicious beasts. He felt his breath start to become more heavy, he was running out of stamina from the constant attacks of the wolves. And the bleeding wound on his arm wasn't helping. With great effort Dovahkiin pushed himself to tread across the snow and strike at the nearest wolf.

As the creature went to cast another spell, he noticed that the dark energy failed to surge as it normally did. He was out of mana. Waltz lowered his rod sadly and looked around. "It seems as though my usefulness has dissipated quite quickly," he informed them, a bit embarassed. It had been a long time since he did so much spellcasting at one time, so he wasn't surprised at how horrible his mana reservoir had become. This journey would provide plenty of exercise to get it back to where it used to be, so he was not worried.

Another gust of wind carried the strange woman away from the wolf that wished to damage her. She didn't move very far though, she just got away from biting range. Instead she 'landed' within range, reading her fans. With a graceful spin, an arc of wind energy was sent flying at the wolf, as she had done with the previous one.

The wolf managed to jump to the side and avoid the attack from the one riding the wind, and it leaped away to return to a much larger target, one that was already bleeding badly. But the wolf, with its senses dulled by the harsh snowstorm, managed to only swipe at the air beside the man.

He raised his axe over his head, and swung down like he was chopping firewood. He heard the skull crack, it did do something. Now his allies can finish things off.

Era sighed as the wolf dodged her attack and dashed over to their 'leader'. So the dog wished to break the laws of the wind? So be it, she could deal with such a foolish belief. Letting the winds carry her to a new location on the battlefield, she readied her fans. With a fluid motion as she landed, the fans flew forward and lashed out at the wolf.
