Last Chance Empty Last Chance

Ruthas was smiling. It wasn't such a rare occurrence seeing as how the girl smiled almost all the time. But this wasn't just any smile. It was a smile that practically screamed 'I have an idea!'. Having been Ruthas' roommate for the last three years had taught Lyn to be cautious and weary when the energetic girl had an idea. Because, most of the time, she ended up being dragged along and straight into the spotlight.

Shifting on her bed so she was just a little further from her roommate, Lyn had learned any sort of physical distance was helpful, she continued to read her book. Sooner or later, Ruthas would make a statement and then demand she ask her what her idea was. Lyn didn't have to wait long.

"I," Ruthas began, sitting up. She had been lying on her bed, staring at the ceiling. "Have an idea."

Lyn didn't even spare her a glance.

"Do you wanna know what it is?" Ruthas asked, head snapping toward her companion. Eyes sparkled with excitement as she eagerly waited.

". . . . What is it," Lyn asked after a moment of silence, not even phrasing it into a question. If she didn't say anything, Ruthas would become more annoying than an impatient kid on a family road trip. But instead of 'are we there yet?', it would be a constant mantra of 'ask, ask, ask' until Ruthas stopped breathing. Literally. It happened. Once. Lyn didn't want to be charged with homicide.

"You," Ruthas thrust a finger at the brunette, making this as dramatic as possible. "Are going to sing Sir Theodore Valisher a love song."

Silence.

Lyn slowly folded the corner of the page she was on and gently shut the book. She then looked up and stared. "Can you repeat yourself?"

"Nope," Ruthas chirped, grinning like a crazy person. Lyn always thought she was one. "Suppressing yourself isn't good at all. It's Theodore's last year here. You've got to make an impression! I mean, don't you want to keep in touch with him? I know you like him. It's, like, SO obvious." Ruthas giggled. Lyn just stared some more. After a moment, she reopened her book, unfolded the corner and returned her attention to it.

"Call me when you get out of the idiot hole," she said tonelessly, not wanting to deal with her roommate's stupidity. Ruthas stopped giggling and gaped.

"Lyn!" she nearly screeched. Lyn wished she was deaf. "That's not very nice. What about all our good times together? We're friends! Friends help each other." This wasn't help, this was humiliation. But Lyn didn't say it. "I mean, what if this crush gets out of hand? I don't want you to become a stalker." Lyn wondered if throwing her book at the girl would knock her out. "I'm sure Theodore would love to have you as a girlfriend. I mean, you're the sweetest little thing to have ever appeared on the planet!"

Ruthas was obviously delusional.

"Why a love song?" the brunette inquired, interrupting her roommate's tirade. If she heard any more, she would puke. It was too bad she wasn't strong enough to pick up her bed. Maybe the cabinet would work.

"Lyn, Lyn, Lyn," Ruthas tutted, looking disappointed. Lyn debated smacking her instead. It would take less effort. "You're the pride of the chorus club. You're, like, the angel. I mean, people fall in love with your voice after the first three words. I bet they would jump off a cliff if you sang them to." Lyn suddenly snapped her eyes toward her roommate and narrowed them. Ruthas blinked. "What? Is there something on my face?"

". . . . It's nothing," Lyn murmured and returned to her book. She had been wondering if she could do that to Ruthas. Oblivious to her thoughts, Ruthas frowned in confusion before smiling brightly.

"So, are you going to do it?" she asked in anticipation. Lyn paused, looked up, stared at the ceiling, looked down, and then turned to her increasingly annoying roommate.

"No."

Ruthas wailed.

"Okay, so maybe the love song wasn't such a good idea," Ruthas mumbled, sulking as she admitted she was wrong. Lyn was sitting with her chin leaning against the palm of her hand as she watched students riot in the once peaceful lunchroom. She was silent, an air of boredom surrounding her.

Somehow, Ruthas had convinced her to sing the love song to Theodore. They had decided to do it in the cafeteria because everyone had the same lunch period. At least, in the third and fourth years. The first and second had theirs in a separate period. Ruthas had acquired a microphone from the auditorium without anyone realizing, probably had help from Syfen, and after setting up had thrust a music sheet into Lyn's hands.

Upon reading it, Lyn realized it was the sappiest thing ever. Every word was a cliche and just looking at it had made her feel sick. She ended up changing some words as she sang because even humiliation had its limits. Unfortunately, they had forgotten one tiny detail.

They hadn't dedicated the song to Theodore.

By the time the song ended every listener had burst into cheers and a second later, arguments erupted from the crowds. With the time it took Lyn to blink, the entire cafeteria was involved in a food fight. She had taken a seat with Ruthas straight after, knowing there was no use. It would be impossible to stop them now.

"Maybe a love letter would have been better," Ruthas continued to mumble thoughtfully. Lyn slowly turned her head to her companion.

"I think you're better off keeping to pranks," she said before returning her attention to the chaos. Ruthas deflated, slumping over the table. A pout was clearly visible on her face as the girl sulked. Suddenly, she brightened.

"But what if Theodore gets jealous?!" the overexcited third year exclaimed, unable to hold in her enthusiasm. "It'll be a huge chance for you! Imagine all these men and women chasing after you and then Theodore comes out of NOWHERE and declares to everyone that you're his!" She squealed like a fangirl, eyes sparkling. "It's PERFECT!"

"It won't happen," Lyn deadpanned, not looking at her roommate. "Teddy would never do that."

"How do you know that?" Ruthas blinked, surprised. Lyn glanced at her.

"Because it's physically impossible," she answered. Ruthas did a headdesk.

"Oh, don't be like that, Lyn!" the blue eyed girl whined, sending the brunette a pitiful look. "Have some imagination! Don't you want Theodore?" If Lyn had enough strength, she would have thrown Ruthas in the chaos. Instead, she stood and moved away. "Lyn?"

"I'm going to find Xu Shin," she answered, making her way to the exit. "And the teachers will probably be here soon."

"Oh, don't be silly," Ruthas laughed. "It's only been a few minutes since this started. They can't be that-"

"YOU ALL HAVE FIVE SECONDS BEFORE I TEAR HEADS OFF!!"

"On second thought, I'm going to go find Syfen," Ruthas quickly said, hurrying after her friend as Ryas made herself known, a murderous aura surrounding her. The Math teacher looked ready to burst into flames of rage.

"I told you so," Lyn whispered as the two sneaked out of the cafeteria, the rest of the students cowering in fear of Ryas' wrath. Ruthas pursed her lips.

"You IMMATURE little MONSTERS are going to be cleaning the ENTIRE SCHOOL for A WEEK! If I hear a SINGLE complaint, I'll throw you into the surrounding forest and LAUGH as you cry and scream for your LIVES as the wolves there chase you until you collapse and fall prey to their gaping jaws!"

"Brutal," Ruthas commented weakly, glad she escaped. Lyn silently agreed.

"Hey, Lyn!"

Hearing the voice of the bane of her existence, Lyn wanted to bash her head in. But that would be detrimental to her health so she resigned herself to her fate and slowly turned away from her homework to give the far too hyperactive girl a blank stare. Best never to show what she was thinking, Ruthas had a way of turning it against her.

"What is it, Ruthas," the singer deadpanned, just wanting to go back to finishing up her creative literature project. It was due in three days and she was still trying to figure out what the hell she was writing. Lyn really didn't have time for her roommate's inane antics at the moment.

"Remember that love letter I mentioned?" Ruthas inquired, grinning madly with sparkles in her eyes, an indication that she was very excited right now. Which never meant anything good for Lyn. The brunette closed her eyes and inwardly sighed.

"What about it?" She was going to regret asking this, she just knew it. And Lyn had thought the girl had learned her lesson after the lunchroom incident. Ryas had somehow found out her part, along with Ruthas', in the whole mess. She had gotten off lightly, thankfully. Ruthas, on the other hand, had been assigned toilet cleaning duty. Not a pretty job.

Anyway, back to the situation. Instead of answering Lyn, Ruthas grinned even wider and suddenly thrust something into her face. Lyn, for a moment, was blinded by the sudden invasion of her private space and nearly grabbed her 'The Hobbit' book (she had been using it as a reference) to smash her roommate's head in but quickly realized she would be damaging her book. Lips tightening, the brunette released her hold on the book before snatching the paper Ruthas had thrust into her face.

Uncrumpling the paper, Lyn read aloud:

Dear Teddy,

Roses are Red,
Violets are Blue.
Candy is sweet,
And so are You!
I love you. :DDDDDDD

From Lyn <3 XOXOXOXO

There was a long silence.

Ruthas, oblivious to the growing danger, continued to smile. "So?" she urged, bouncing on her feet. "What do you think?"

The sound of ripping paper was heard before a high-pitched scream emitted from the depths of the student dorms, reaching to the far ends of the campus. Simultaneously, several easily irritable people twitched. As one, they yelled.

"GOD DAMN IT, RUTHAS!"

She just couldn't understand. What was she doing wrong? Ruthas sniffed, pouting as she lay her head down on the table she was sitting at. Across from her, Lillian and Lucian stared a look before the female of the two reached over and gently patted the depressed girl on the head.

"It's okay, Ruthas," Lillian reassured her, smiling. She felt a little awkward, trying to cheer the girl up. Normally, Ruthas was so happy and hardly anything ever kept her down. "I'm sure Lyn understand you're only trying to help." When Ruthas only whimpered, Lillian bit her lip and glanced helplessly at her cousin. Lucian, unable to stand seeing his precious little Lily troubled, decided to help.

"She's right, Rutee," the male practically purred the nickname, leaning forward with half-lidded eyes. "All you're doing is trying to help her fulfill her desires. It's obvious to all of us except those two that they were made for each other. To see such pure love, it's impossible to just sit back and watch. If they won't do anything then you have to do it for them." Lillian frowned, unsure what to make of her cousin's words. Ruthas, however, lifted her head and peered up at the male with watery eyes.

"You really think so?" she asked tentatively, sniffling again. Lucian scoffed, as if offended by her lack of faith.

"I know so," were his arrogant words. And with those three words, Ruthas stood.

"You're right!" she exclaimed, eyes burning with the fire of determination. Lillian blinked rapidly, watching the scene in confusion and slight panic. She had a bad feeling about this. Lucian only smirked, looking very pleased with himself. Lillian could almost see her cousin's ego inflating. Ruthas saw none of this. "I'm doing this for Lyn's sake and if it's for Lyn, I'll do anything! She's my bestest best friend and I'll be damned if I watch Theodore leave without the two ever consummating their relationship! Love. Conquers. ALL!"

She punched her fist in the air as she shouted the last word. Lillian could only bury her face in her hands in horror while Lucian gleefully gave the girl one last push.

"That's right, which means the sooner you do it, the sooner Lyn can be happy," he stated, crossing his arms and nodding his head. His cousin slowly, carefully and very deliberately, lifted her foot from its place under the table before slamming it down on his foot and mercilessly crossed it. He released a strangled scream of pain but the damage was done.

"Oh, then I should hurry!" Ruthas fretted, realizing she was wasting time standing around when she could be doing something. Giving the two an eye blinding smile, not that either noticed considering Lillian was glaring with a uncharacteristically dark expression on her face while Lucian gave her look like he just couldn't believe what she had done, the back to happy-go-lucky third year hurried away. "Oh, I can't wait! Thanks guys!"

With the nuisance gone, Lillian's glare turned into a smile. But Lucian wasn't fooled. There was death in that smile.

"You do realize that Lyn isn't going to be too happy about this, right?" she inquired sweetly, her smile just oozing with sugary death. "You also realize what she'll do to us if she finds out, right?" Lucian stiffened. He hadn't thought about that. But he couldn't let his cousin notice. Quickly regaining his composure, it was hard when his foot still throbbed in pain, the male smiled.

"It's fine, she'll thank us for this later," he said smoothly, making sure to keep his smile on his face. And then his cousin's own smile turned downright evil.

"If I remember correctly, you never learned how to swim, cousin. Would you like me to teach you?"

At first, Lucian didn't understand what she was getting at. And then he remembered she bred piranhas in their pool.

Oh shit.

Last Chance Empty Re: Last Chance

Post by Xenosaga Tue Jan 10, 2012 7:16 pm

"Theo! Hey, Theo!" Ruthas called to the senior, jumping up and down and waving her arms frantically to get his attention, a giant smile on her face. She also had a suspiciously dark looking mark on her cheek and Lyn, who was standing next to her with her headphones on, was eerily silent. Theodore, however, noticed none of this and smiled pleasantly as he made his way over.

"Hello Ruthas," he greeted, amusement clear in his eyes. Ruthas returned his smile with a giant grin, only to flinch and force it down. Theodore blinked, confused by her action. The girl was always so energetic and could always be seen with a smile or a grin. Maybe she was having an off day. Deciding it was that, he turned to her companion and his smile grew visibly brighter. "It's good to see you're doing well, Lyn."

Despite wearing headphones, Lyn looked up as he spoke and a soft, almost invisible, smile spread across her face. Her usually dull blue eyes were alight with warmth and a twinkle of happiness. It was clear she was ecstatic to see him. Ruthas giggled at the look, only to slap her hands over her mouth when Lyn's eyes flickered over to her. Again, she flinched nad carefully removed them from her face. She had slapped her bruise in her haste to keep her mouth shut.

Theodore, who had seen her action, was concerned. "Are you alright, Ruthas?" he inquired, peering down at her. He was about four inches taller than her after all. "Is that a bruise on your face?"

"Wha-no!" Ruthas denied, waving her hands in front of her and shaking her head quickly. She glanced nervously at Lyn, who was watching her silently, her eyes void of all emotion. Ruthas inwardly swallowed. "Of course not! It's just a smudge. Just a smudge! You know how clumsy I am sometimes. Ahahahahaha." Her laugh was high and filled with nervous fear but Theodore found nothing wrong and smiled in relief.

"You have to be more careful, Ruthas," he chided, raising his hand and ruffling her hair. "I know you get overexcited sometimes but don't overdo it. You could get really hurt."

"Ehe. . . . Sorry Theo," she apologized, rubbing the back of her neck. "I'll be careful from now on. I promise." Theodore nodded at her answer, pleased.

"Good, now stay out of trouble," he warned sternly. "I have to go to my next class now. It starts in a few minutes." He glanced at his wristwatch as he said this, just to make sure. "But I know it's been a while since we last saw each other. How about we get together sometime during the weekend? You can bring your friends too." Ruthas visibly brightened at this. It was the perfect chance!

"Of course!" she exclaimed, jumping at the offer. Literally. Theodore almost had to take a step back at her enthusiasm, she had practically stuck her face in his, but Lyn grabbed her roommate's collar and pulled. Ruthas made a choking sound as she was pulled back, coughing once she wasn't being strangled anymore. Lyn removed her arm immediately, expression no longer murderous. Theodore blinked. He hadn't noticed a thing.

"Let's meet up at the school entrance," Lyn suggested simply, acting as if her companion hadn't almost choked to death just a few seconds ago. "How about Sunday at 12 noon?"

"It's perfect," the senior agreed. Lyn smiled and then, much to Ruthas' complete and utter shock, Theodore leaned down and kissed the girl.

On. The. Lips.

"I'll see you on Sunday then," he whispered softly as he pulled away, smiling warmly. Lyn nodded, her own smile widening just a bit. Ruthas spluttered in the background, gaping and unable to form any sort of coherent thought. Theodore blinked at her state and then laughed. "I'll see you on Sunday as well, Ruthas. And again, stay out of trouble, okay?" Ruthas, unable to do anything else, nodded.

Satisfied, the senior turned and left, his walk changing to a jog once he realized how long he had to get to his next class. Lyn watched him go until he was out of sight before facing her roommate. Said roommate had a dazed expression on her face and didn't seem to be all there. Lyn waited for a bit before taking hold of the taller girl's face with one hand and began to smack her with the other.

"Eh-? Ow! Ow, ow, ow, ow!" Ruthas yelped, flailing as she tried to get her friend to stop slapping her. Lyn got in one last smack before releasing her. Ruthas whined, rubbing her sore cheeks. "Owie, why did you have to smack me Lyn? That was so mean of you." She pouted.

Lyn waited.

Ruthas slowly blinked. Her eyes widened. Lyn turned up the sound on her mp3 a little higher.

"Oh. My. God. Oh my god. Oh my god! Oh my god!! Did he just-? Did you just-? Did the two of you just-?" Ruthas was hyperventilating now. Lyn wondered if she would suffocate. "You kissed! You two kissed! Oh my god, his lips went on yours and it was a kiss! THEODORE KISSED YOU!!" Ruthas, now officially insane, launched herself at the other girl and grasped her by the shoulders. "Why did he kiss you!?! Why did you let him kiss you?! ARE YOU TWO DATING?!?!?!?"

Lyn slapped her. And then wiped her hand on Ruthas' shirt.

"You see," she began, slowly and carefully. "When two people love each other very, very much, they tend to show their affection to each other by kissing." She paused, letting the girl digest this. "That is what Teddy and I did."

Ruthas gaped. "So that means-?"

"That this is none of your business."

"But I-!"

"Would you like another unfortunate accident involving the microphone stand?"

". . . . . I'll be quiet now."

END

---

What the fuck is this, I don't even know. .-.
