Corpse Demon

Corpse Demon
"During a fiercely hot summer in Sotoba, a peaceful and quiet village with a population of 1300 people, a series of bizarre deaths begin to occur. At the same time, a strange family moves into a long abandoned mansion in the region. After supposedly visiting this strange family, the fashionable Shimizu Megumi goes missing and the entire village goes out in search for her."
Now, what we have here seems like a very Higurashi-esque summary, and it's really not too far from the mark. The story revolves around a special type of demon, called a "Shiki", or a Corpse Demon. These demons have risen from their graves, they do not breathe, and follow restrictions set by old vampire folklore.
The art in this anime is very... odd, to say the least. You'll see multitudes of fucked-up hairstyles and stuff along those lines, but you get used to it. And hey, it's different. Usually different is always good, righto?
The anime itself starts off very slow, but most of it is very necessary character development that prepares for the second half of the series, or when "shit hits the fan", as people prefer to call it. The horror involved in this anime is actually very different as well. You'll see shit ranging from attempting to puncture a human brain using an iron rod lunged into the body through the ear, all the way to something as simple as stoning somebody to death.
Very interesting stuff indeed.
Highly recommended.
