Twist of Fate Redux ~ Riot of the Sealed One

The world of Orenthia. This world plays host to a most wicked play, one where two countries sharing the mainland of a supercontinent constantly wage war over something they do not even fully understand. Scattered across the entire world are mysterious objects known only as 'Seal Stones.' There are twelve in total, or at least that is what has been recorded. Because of the enigma surrounding them, they are rumored to possess a great power, but the form that power takes is unknown. Regardless, the rumors are enough to spark great conflict quickly between the nations of Alice and Cordala. The other nations of Ramir, Lucras Nostus, Quenere, and Obsidalstran try to remain out of the conflict, but they also don't wish to surrender their Seal Stones, and as such are targeted by Alice and Cordala, the major players of this awful war. No one is safe. Anyone who has knowledge about the locations of the Seal Stones could be subject to torture by all sides of the conflict. Innocents have been killed when the fronts of the war found themselves resting upon villages and towns, and sometimes even major cities. Seventeen years have passed since supposedly all important war began, and now the two sides have realized that there needs to be a slight relent in terms of battles, and as such marked a period where infiltration and stealth were a huge thing and larger battles between infantry forces were less common, but definitely still occurring.
It was at this point of time that we find ourselves in the Bordesian Mountains, an immense mountain range dividing the supercontinent of Pirova in two. The day was oddly quiet on the Cordalan side of the mountains, for no monsters nor guards from either of the two nations could be seen traversing the path along the mountainside leading upwards towards the summit, and more importantly, a passageway that had long since been sealed off that used to connect the two nations of Alice and Cordala. On a ledge of rocky flatland higher up on the mountainside, things were more tense than usual. The whole area was dotted with evergreen trees, and on one side of the clearing stood a young girl in garments that looked normal, but upon closer inspection, were made of paper. She had short pink hair tied up in two small buns. Her body was lithe, and she glared out at the trees on the opposite side of the area with fierce, dark green eyes. She entered a firm stance and held out a piece of paper in her hand, almost as if it were a weapon which would seem silly at first to bystanders. There was no doubt about it; she was being followed.
"Come out! I know you're there!" the young girl shouted out across the area, her voice echoing off the crag. There was nothing but silence in return for a few moments. The girl refused to lower her guard.
Nestled in a tall pine tree on the opposite side of the clearing, a young man with sharp, confident eyes rested his gaze upon the girl. Taking a wooden bow in his hands and raising it, he nocked an arrow and took aim at the girl with the piece of paper. It almost seemed to be too easy of a kill. He listened to her exclamation, so it was apparent that she knew something was up, but it didn't matter anymore. Silently, he released the arrow.
The girl instantly held up her piece of paper in the direction the arrow was coming from in time to see the arrow barely pierce the paper. Both the paper and the arrow fell harmlessly to the ground. "So, I am being followed," she muttered. "I was hoping I was wrong." That's when she noticed a man jumping from out of a tree across the way. He was the one who had fired at her. An angry grimace appeared on her face and she took out some more paper. The man nocked another arrow. "If it's a fight you want, then it's a fight you'll get!"
And thus the battle commenced.

This is just like the last Twist of Fate. Though it is less improvised this time around, there will still be a two story system in place, and just like last time, two characters will join each side of the battle and we'll duke it out. There isn't much left to say because I already mentioned this is much more planned out than last time, so let's just get this show on the road, yeah? Profiles will need to be accepted first. AFFILIATION IS AVAILABLE ON A FIRST COME, FIRST SERVE BASIS As such, you may not get the affiliation you wish to get. Don't be perturbed if you don't; neither side gets more benefits than the other. I'll try to keep things as balanced as possible. Thank you. As soon as I have four profiles, two for each affiliation, I'll give the word for people to start posting.

A voice. Young. It was most likely coming from a female child. Lifting his head, cerulean blue eyes scanned his surroundings cautiously. He didn't expect there to be anyone else out here, in the wilderness. Especially with the current situation. He himself had only come in search of remedial herbs and would have returned home the moment he found enough. Still, if it was a female child, Richard had no intention of just leaving her. From the sound of it, it seemed she was being chased as well.
Grabbing his silver pocket watch, he flipped it open, glanced at it once, before snapping it shut, as was his habit. Getting to his feet, Richard briskly made his way through the brush and out into a clearing, trees scattered around here and there. Immediately, he caught sight of the girl. She really was just a child, though she held herself very unlike one. It was clear she had some battle experience. However, Richard was not about to allow her to deal with this threat on her own as he glanced at the boy the girl was glaring at.
"How unsightly," he spoke, stepping up so he was standing beside the girl. His eyes were narrowed behind their silver framed glasses, his hand unconsciously clicking open and shut his watch. In a whisper, he directed his next comment to the girl. "Allow me to assist you." Richard kept his eyes trained on the male across from them as he pulled his battered book from where he kept it, snug in a bag he kept strapped to his waist.

The cool breeze rustled through Jeyne's amber locks of hair, carrying with it a perturbing chill that send tingles down the young duelist's backside. And to think my clothes can't even keep me warm during moderate weather. She scoffed into her scarf, which had wrapped around her visage, concealing her mouth with black-and-red cotton. The scarf drooped from her neck and dangled before the young girl's bosom, gentling wavering in the wind as a sudden burst of energy pierced the air:
Good grief.
Her lips shuffled, and she murmured and cursed as arrow met paper; now of all times? To think that the war would even affect the flow of her autumntime reprieves along the Bordesian. Urged by the desire to end the clattering of weaponry that had tainted her evening, Jeyne followed the echoes of running feet and jumping legs, shortly before arriving at a wide flatland, upon which a young boy and girl stood, facing one another with glares ingrained with the flames of fervorous battle.
Jeyne emerged from behind a nearby tree, catching a closer glance at the duo: upon more reliable inspection, it became inherently clear that the two were of opposition.
The one lining the mountain, facing the young bowman... certainly doesn't hail from Cordala. That much is certain; her look is far too foreign, far too-
She gently caressed her eyepatch, before reaching for her rapier:
Alice.

Luxs knelt amongst the trees of the woods in her long rainbow dress, moving leaves from one location to another. The reds, oranges, yellows, and browns gently placed in a picturesque pattern on the dirt floor beneath her. As she worked, she hummed a sweet little tune that landed like a songbird on the ear. Just as her melody began to reach its end she suddenly stopped. Her eyes, normally black and deep as pearls, turned a neon white color. This lasted only a few moments before they returned to normal and she frowned; the leaves she had so carefully arranged were swept into disarray as she stood and began to weave through the mass of trees.
She came to a halt at the edge of what would become a battlefield. She watched as an arrow struck paper and two other individuals joined each side. Her frown remained engraved into her chocolate face. It was just as she had seen. "Perhaps they won't have to fight?" she murmured to herself, although she didn't believe it possible. A fight would take place. She might have to be a part of it.

Cordala. It had to be.
A silver eye, colored a metallic gray, twitched along with a brief contortion of a grimace, as the implications became clearly evident. While the overwhelming tension that had built up only snapped into the beginning of a fight, the young girl appeared to be nevertheless confident about the situation, despite the fact she had been mere steps away from being taken off-guard by the silent Hunter, who had been always watching from the copious trees. However, they had been in turn, though most specifically for the bow-wielding one, been watched by someone else. From within the eastside wilderness, a figure stood almost nonchalantly amidst the autumnal vegetation. It was a mystery how he had evaded detection, because the scattered, proud trees, though their fragile and dried leaves hued in fiery schemes due to the time of the year, failed to completely meld into the notoriousness of his appearance.
Though clearly, remaining invisible to them was not his goal anymore.
Irises injected with metaphorical cold, hard steel, they found themselves contrasted by the moderately long, unkempt yellow of his blonde hair, arranged in wild strands that, from various angles, seemed to block his eyes. Startlingly red, he simply wore a loose jacket that seemed to be unaffected by whatever whim of direction the breezing wind took next, with nothing beneath. He was, after all, completely unworried about exposing bare flesh in a battle--it was bound to be fierce if he was the one getting involved. And certainly, this was going to be the case. As three other strangers joined the fray, Axis Neverchord smirked, a half-splitting curvature of his lips displaying his amusement, his own confidence. The Murder Claw allowed himself to chuckle, not caring about the secrecy of his position and his presence alike, now that analogy had presented itself as an board with pieces already arranged in position.
The game was just about to begin, and he was not one to miss it.
A blur of motion began, extending itself at inhuman speed to reach the now-battlefield in a matter of seconds. Axis calculated the distance, and once he was within range, simply leapt, reaching as far above to overcome the height of several towering species of trees, before being finally pulled back towards the ground by the burden of gravity he seemed to temporarily defy. While any normal person would have virtually shattered their legs by the force of the impact, there was only an echoing, dry thud as the he landed next to the book-holding man. From this new, practically announced position, he brandished the sharp, menacing blades of his weapons, a detail which was previously not visible due to the distance, but now was outlined in full detail by their shape, their glint, their unspoken threat.
"Heh heh heh," he snickered, his voice easily reaching opposition's ranks easily. Was due it the acoustics of the Bordesian Mountains? Such details were unimportant to the matter at hand now. Axis continued, his voice nearly tauntingly remarking, "Cordala once again getting in trouble for the sake of it, heh?"
"Let's make the trouble worth it, then."

Still in her battle stance, the girl looked around to watch as the battle turned from a one-on-one to a three-on-three. The girl, Lucille, glanced at her apparently new-found allies. They were Alicians just like her, and she assumed that the ones who joined the assassin were other Cordalans. As much as she hated to get civilians involved, they seemed rather capable, so she wasn't about to deny their help. "I....I appreciate it," she thanked both of the gentleman firmly before dashing forward between the trees. The enemy was right in her line of fire, and she owed him a little retaliation after having fired an arrow at her. "This has been a long time coming!" With that, she hurled the piece of paper she had been holding, and most likely to everyone's surprise, instead of just flimsily falling to the ground, it surged through the air like a throwing knife with the intent on slashing the hunter from Cordala.
Lucille reached into her paper holder and pulled out another piece of paper, the thing drooping at first like normal, but with a mere thought, it straightened. "Sorry for dragging you two into this," she called back to the others who had joined her. There would be some explanations to be done when she reached the Alician capitol city of Kyrie. A grimace formed on her face in regards to said thoughts, but from that point on, she remained silent and focused. What was done was done.

"Sorry for dragging you two into this," she called back to the others who had joined her. There would be some explanations to be done when she reached the Alician capitol city of Kyrie. A grimace formed on her face in regards to said thoughts, but from that point on, she remained silent and focused. What was done was done.

Flipping open his book, he flicked the pages until he reached a certain one and sent the girl a nod, even though she probably wouldn't notice it. "You need not apologize." It wasn't as if he could just leave the girl. Considering which way she had been running toward, she was of the same citizenry as he and it would not do for him to just abandon his countryman.
With a pale finger pressed against the page, he locked eyes onto the archer and read a single word. "Signum." With a swipe, he pointed his finger at the male and words lifted off the page, following his motion. They flew swiftly through the air like birds and broke off into three segments. Each whirled around the archer, first the head, then the chest and finally the legs. They glowed briefly and, instilling their power, it would seal the boy's fate.

"Nothing to be sorry about, girl." he replied with certainty in his voice, as if he was not concerned about the matter. Maybe it was the case. He did not even look at the Paper Master directly, for his eyes seemed to be fixated on the three individuals before them, almost mesmerized, his smirking expression lessened due to his apparent concentration, but was still there nevertheless. "In fact!" he continued, the broken blades of his claws meeting together in a harsh, dragging resonance of metal clashing together unsoundly... in anticipation. "They'll be sorry they were here in first place!"
And with that, he took off. His makeshift battle stance, unrefined as it was, found itself immediately broken, replaced by a feral, quadrupedal motion which was, simply put, inhumanly quick. Not able to dodge the paper in time, Tamashi winced as it sliced through his garments leaving a slight cut. The damage wasn't too bad, but it was still something he'd rather have avoided. Glancing around, he noticed that this Alician girl wasn't the only one that had backup. A couple of girls, presumably Cordalan, had decided to aid in his endeavors to get rid of the Alician scum, though he was aware that his original target from before--the pink-haired girl--was the most important of them all. Still, he was now bound completely and could do nothing thanks to an apparent sorcerer of some sort. Such strange magic the Alicians must practice. Tamashi's eyes glared fiercely at the one who had placed him in this predicament. Keeping arrow to bow, not like he had any choice, he resolved to stay firm in his intent. The others would have to compensate for him in the meantime.

The battle emerged, and with it, the enemies lunged forward. Almost in a sort of knee-jerking reaction, Jeyne unsheathed her rapier at the first instance of hostility. The paper flew, and with it, Jeyne charged toward the enemy, wafting her blade to the side as she came to a sudden stop as she passed Tamashi.
"Why must we fight? Can we not enjoy nice walks along the Bordesian without stabbing each other in the throats?" Jeyne beckoned to the Alicians, motioning her right palm toward Tamashi as she mentioned "cutting throats." Rubbing the exterior of her eyepatch with a sort of irritable frustration, she continued. "Good grief... Look at what you've done! My rapier's been unsheathed and this young man can hardly move a thumb!" She sighed exhaustedly, wavering her rapier at Tamashi's hands.
The young duelist retracted her blade, and held it sternly parallel to her bosom, "If you wish to pursue your hostility, then fight a fair fight! Come at me! Not he, who garners motionless limbs!" She turned her emerald gaze toward Tamashi, removing her scarf from her lips and smiling cheekishly at the young archer.

She had not deemed herself a threat yet, and as such would prefer to keep it that way unless it became absolutely necessary.

With relief that those aiding her weren't going out of their way for anything, Lucille felt a bit more confident in her stance. The words of one of the Cordalans caught her interest, but she merely sighed before gazing out at the woman who had spoken resolutely. "Your smooth talking won't sway me from the task I have at hand!" she called back defiantly. "If this man hadn't wished to get his ass kicked, he wouldn't have shot that arrow. If you don't want to fight, then don't. Leave this assassin to die an assassin's death." That said, she loosed the sheet of paper she was holding and watched as it effortlessly left another gash in the assassin's side. Was she pleased with the violence? Not even close. The war was something she didn't exactly care for, but her position in the Alician military as an important one. She was a scout, in essence; she wasn't even meant to fight. However, they had chosen her for her awesome abilities to manipulate paper in many ways, shapes, and forms. It aided her in her stealth missions. It was a shame that some poor Cordalan soul thought to give chase to her when she hadn't even really done anything wrong, but now he would pay the price for his foolishness.
One side has to win...that's why we've been at this for 17 years. No one wants to just give up, she thought to herself, drawing another piece of paper and sidling over to a nearby tree, taking refuge behind it. There was no doubt in her mind that she was walking away from this battle alive. She wondered if the two Cordalan women were worth sparing. Maybe if they stayed their hands, she could show mercy since it was only the assassin that made an attack upon her. Maybe...

Richard could feel the glare the archer was sending him but paid it no mind. The boy could do nothing in the condition he was currently in and he would not be doing anything anytime soon. His spell made sure of that. For now, however, Richard saw no point in keeping his focus on the sealed boy any longer. His spells were meant to bind and weaken and the female with the sword had already allowed herself to be his next target.
[Richard] moves to [E-4].
Flipping through the pages of his book once more, he stopped at one particular one he intended to try out. It was not the same as the one that had sealed the boy but it was still quite effective. Seeing as how the girl he was aiding and the boy who had joined their side did not seem to have magical capabilities, this one spell would be useful.
"Macero," he spoke in the same way he said his first spell. Not a chant but just a word, swiping his finger off the page to point at the sword wielding girl. Again, words took flight off the crinkly page and headed straight for his target. It swirled and whirled around her until she was encased in inky blackness. The words and letters continued to move, slowly closing in on the human. If all went well, it would compress her into the size of an apple.

The Murder Claw practically leapt, from behind the coniferous tree shielding him temporarily, towards the Hunter, who could do nothing but remain motionless, sealed by a powerful magic which still lingered around him. His smirk grew into a nearly disproportional, sadistic grin which, while accompanied by the deathly pulse of his gaze, made his blurring visage a clawed phantom appearing instants before the moment of a certain death. Or rather, towards whatever state that could graze the boundary of this and the other world as closely as possible, for Axis' intent was not to eliminate him.
Slash after slash cascaded upon the helpless form of the bow-wielding teenager, shredding cloth and flesh with horrid ease, for the Murder Claw's target had truly no way to defend himself. Blood flew through the air as the brief rampage devastated the Hunter, with each successive strike performed to be as nonlethal as possible... until he was finally done. It was, after all, not his battle--otherwise, his opponent would have not been spared. Such twisted mercy was merely a message in the language of battle towards the Paper Master... whatever his fate would be, would be up to her. He turned his head sharply, face sprinkled with fresh drops of scarlet, metal claws dripping equally-colored liquid to the grass below. Two more to go.

She had once gazed at the trio with confidence, and with a ravenous desire to smack the Alicians right back into their place. All of that had been immediately halted by some sort of black magic: her view shrank, and the trees multiplied in size, by tens, maybe hundreds of their original stature. "Filthy witches and their tricks! They can't even fight me fairly! How unsightly!" Jeyne barked, though she was much too minuscule and insignificant for the Alicians to even hear.

Lucille allowed herself a sigh of relief as the main threat was taken down. She wondered if she could pity the other Cordalans but decided against it. They had already made clear that they would destroy her just as the assassin planned to. Her look decomposed into a rather sad one as she let loose a piece of paper, though it didn't zip out through the air like a knife. Instead, it retained its paper quality and flew loosely through the air, twirling about before starting to slowly descend upon a certain spot. Below, a shadow would form over the shrunken Jeyne, and before long, the paper would magnify in weight briefly to crush her before becoming light once again. "Those who start trouble should make sure they can finish what they start..." she murmured mostly to herself, retrieving another piece of paper from her holder and fiddling with it absently. The other Alicians who aided her appeared unscathed which was a good thing. She would have hated it if either one of them had gotten hurt on her behalf, even if they said they were volunteering their services.

That only left the female who seemed to think she could sneak up on them. Turning blue eyes toward the last of their three foes, Richard merely pushed his glasses up and took a few steps closer. He had to, if he wanted to be able to shrink her like he did the other girl.

Axis gazed at the bleeding mess that was the Hunter once again, and could not help but chuckle darkly at the sight. He diverted his eyes to the woman who had finally drawn her weapons, and had begun to mobilize towards their relative position from the side. He flicked his wrists slightly, feeling the familiar weight of his metallic claws settle and the tiny clicks of the individual joints of the weapons. And he was going to use them again, very soon. Instead of performing another unearthly quick dash, however, the Murder Claw simply walked around the three almost ceremoniously, stopping before the Soothsayer.
He was speaking even before the magic his apparent ally had cast took effect on her size... if it was to succeed, anyway. "Are you going to be using these?" he simply pointed at the unusual, circular blades she wielded, without moving from his position. Thoughts and impulses still throbbed through his mind, reciting a stringed, repeated verse which threatened to raze everything else: Killkillkillkillkillkill... It was a relief such state could be controlled, and he had learned how to, because otherwise...

Luxs frowned as she shrunk. "The Fates have chosen to be cruel to their vessel, perhaps for good reason." she declared, her voice fading to incomprehensible chatter as she reached her new height. "Tis a shame," she breathed as the magic stopped shrinking her. "I had hoped to end the conflict but that seems to be an impossibility." she murmured, closing her eyes and returning moving her arms from their place on her chakrams. "Very well."
She didn't need to see the future to know what would happen next.

As the paper fell atop Jeyne and gradually gained weight, the young duelist thrust her rapier through the object before it could damage her too intensely, allowing her to bide herself with some time, in hopes of gaining freedom over the dastardly shrink spell that had hexed her. "This is really, really unfortunate!" She spat and cursed, running through the massive leaves in an attempt to cut herself away from the paper master's view.

There was some dust being kicked up by something as it moved with haste away from Lucille and her compatriots for this particular battle. She figured it must have been her target, but that wasn't going to do. The paper master gave pursuit and came to a halt, a slight speck in the distance catching her eyes. That was her shrunken target. Releasing another loose piece of paper, she watched as it fluttered through the air and gently swept back and forth as it fell until it suddenly gained weight and fell down atop the female that had been so full of fight before. Trying to convince US to back down when the assassin was the one to fire the first shot. Good try, Lucille growled angrily in her mind, drawing another piece of paper. "Book guy, do you think you could trap her in place so she can't escape?" Lucille asked the man behind her, not sure of his name. The battle had really got her mind in a tizzy, so if he did speak it before, she had forgotten.

"Very well," Richard complied, going back a few pages. He did not mind what the girl called him. There would be introductions later. Right now, it was time to get rid of the rest of the pests that insisted on plaguing them. Entrapping the sword wielding woman in his binding words, Richard snapped his book shut and waited. There was no more he could do unless he wanted to make things physical.
Unfortunately, he wasn't made for physical labor. He would leave that to the clawed man who was glaring down menacingly at the female he had just shrunk.
