Life and Death
I'm been thinking about this for a while now and he never came to a conclusion that I'm happy with...so I'm asking you all what you think...
Why are we born when we are to eventually die? Why are we alive in the first place if it doesn't matter if we die sooner or later? If some of you say that living is to enjoy life, then I'll ask you does the memories of what you done and felt matter at all when you die? Wouldn't everything be better if we were just never born? Being born, collecting memories, then just dying...and leaving everything behind without any feelings at all...is that really enough reason to be born in the first place?
There may not be a real answer to this, but I just want to know how everyone else sees this...

Re: Life and Death
there is an answer and its in the bible,
GOD says that he gave us living on this earth as a test to choose between following him and going astray, when we die, we will either be rewarded with living in the perfect place called Heaven or suffer in Hell.
I pray that all of you turn to GOD
a.s.a.p.

^ Christian ^
That's the Christian answer right there. Everything is explained by the Bible.
I have no particular answer for this, as I'm still trying to find my answer for it. I don't know why people are born, or why they die. I have accepted it as a part of my life, and for now, that's all I need.

Re: Life and Death
Ugh. Insufferable religion-pusher. Makes me wanna end my life whenever I read/hear that blasphemy(lol). Please take your mission somewhere else, thank you.
Anyway, I do think life is just to fulfill yourself and do all that you wanted to with minimum regrets. Sure, our feelings and memories discontinue their existence, but it was fun while it lasted, at least life wasn't all about suffering then.
However, since humans are social creatures, the best meaning most can pin on life without the use of fairy tales is that we live to influence others. Everything we do and experience molds who we are, and everyone around us.
If you want your life to be meaningful, then help others for the common good and inspire them to do great things, while enjoying yourself in the process. I'm no life guru, but I think that's about as good as it gets.

Re: Life and Death
No reason to make such attacks Proxwzki. Everyone has their own beliefs, and you really don't have a right to attack someone simply because they shared their beliefs. The sad part is, he was more civil than you.
To me, life is what you make of it, whether you wish to harm or help people. Everyone has a place in this world, and contribute to the advancement of humanity. AKA, self preservation and species preservation.
As for death, I have atheist opinions on that.

Re: Life and Death
Well, the civility of my 'attack'(or myself) is a matter of opinion(so it shouldn't be stated like a fact). And I want to see a reaction. If he's that eruptive over someone simply not believing in his religion, I'd love to see what happens when his beliefs are under assault.
Plus, it doesn't seem like he was sharing them, more like imposing them. He should at least know that doing that can be offensive to some people, and it certainly was offensive to me, as he apparently believes my god is not tastier than his.
Anyway, to avoid digression, I dunno what happens after death, of course, but I hope it's either like a dreamless sleep[nothing]. Or a neutral afterlife[if souls are involved], seeing as life requires a person do "sinful" things to get ahead[example:Greed is required to some extent], no one would ever make it to Heaven.

...
Uh...
DUH.
Why would he even want to believe that your god, whoever it might be, is greater than his own? You have to understand that Christians believe in only one God, and that all others are false. I'm assuming you are not Christian, seeing how you reacted to his statement. If you are offended by something like that in that way, then you obviously don't respect other people's opinions or religion.
Next time, instead of exploding, try ignoring it. It works a lot better, believe me.

Re: Life and Death
Well, I really shouldn't have reacted at all, as my avatar and sig are religion-mocking pics. They should do the insulting for me. For the record, my God is a Flying Spaghetti Monster. So I'm mocking the religion system in itself.
In other news, sarcasm STILL does not work on the internets. T.T and yes, I understand Christianity very well, as my dad is the son of a Christian preacher. >,>
(on-topic)
Oh, and life is also about getting revenge. Very tasty revenge....or at least my life has been. So in short, I'm sure life itself is about setting goals and doing your best to achieve them legally(or illegally if you are a pro).

Re: Life and Death
I don't think the bible is an answer to anything. It's like our own US Constitution: it could be interpreted loosely or scrictly. How can you find a definite answer in something like that? You can't. Now, a personal truth, on the other hand, is something you could find in the bible. But it's your truth and no one else's. If it happens to lead you to God and all that jazz, then good. But I think you're just supposed to live life and from your experiences, you find the truth for yourself and navigate your back into God's arms.
Anyway, revenge is only a part of living life if you want it to be. That's your choice, but don't forget that you might have your afterlife to scare people and whatnot, assuming that you could be a ghost. I believe this life is nothing; it is just a fundamental step preparing us for a true life of eternity that awaits us after mortality. This mortal life teaches us lessons that we wouldn't be able to learn if we had eternal life. Am I right? There would be far less things that we valued if we happened to be immortal. It cannot be denied. So, that's why I think we're here. If you think we were just put here to live, die, then rot in the ground, you're a pretty dreary person, I'll tell you that much.

Re: Life and Death
Aw, I'm a dreary person....as that last bit is my most favored and logical view. I find that one the most comforting, though, as one life is enough for me. >,>
It's a free ride, but one I didn't ask for or need. Yay for figures of speeech....

Re: Life and Death
I'm a firm believer that Christianity and it's single-deity brethren are pretty much bullcrap. It really doesn't make sense to me how we suddenly went from worshiping many or more than one god to just one. In my opinion, we make our own gods and our own heaven and hell in the afterlife, if and when we somehow get there.
As for the meaning of life, the answer is obvious: 42.
Ehe, on a serious note, the meaning of life is perhaps the pursuit of knowledge. For instance, we shall always pursue the meaning of life, how the universe around us works, and how the hell our next door neighbor can sleep with three dogs and two cages with ten pet rats in them. There will always be things around us that we may not fully understand right now, but will later. I could go into full detail about my theories on life and the universe, but I shall refrain as it would take up about ten long posts-worth of space.

Re: Life and Death
No, I don't actually believe in the Flying Spaghetti Monster. You took me too literally. [insert horrible ban-worthy insult here referring to above poster's stupidity]
The Flying spaghetti Monster is an atheistic symbol that openly mocks the system of every religion ever created. It isn't a real or serious religion. I'm no dumbass, I'm just an insufferable jerk who is insensitive to others. There's a difference.
And thanks for giving me what I wanted, you are indeed less intelligent than I gave you credit for.

Back on topic.

Yeah, life arguably is about enjoyment if anything these days, and yes, the memories and feeling amount to nothing in the end.
The only way you live on at all is in the people you have affected, which is why I think it is partially about helping others, as it would make your memory a positive one.
Since I didn't backup my opinion without evidence, I'll use this entertaining post to do it.

Re: Life and Death
How about we don't make so that we have to 'get back on topic.' Stay on topic or I'm locking the thread. Period. If you say the meaning of life and death has to do with religion, say so and move on. If you don't, say so and move on. Proxzki, this is mainly your fault; everyone's opinions are valid, so get over it. If they say religion, well, that's their opinion. Obviously there is no correct answer to this question, so you're not right, and everyone else isn't right just because there is NO right answer. Say what you have to say and shut up. Thank you.
Oh, and now that I look at it, Warrior, you didn't have to respond in the way that you did. It's unacceptable. At least Proxzki had some tact. You didn't. Avoid such flagrant breaking of the rules in the future lest you with to be banned.

Re: Life and Death
i agree now masq sorry.
but its disrespectful saying that someones FAITH is blasphemy.
n/e ways, i do think theres a right answer, i think the right answer will never be figured out completly in anyone's lifetime though. its almost like trying to know and understand everything, its pointless because itll never happen.

Civilized debates are notably impossible to have around here. Thus, I'll end my own posting in this category with, "you're all insufferable idiots."

Okay, there was no need to say that. The discussion had already ended. You were behaving quite civilly in this one too, why end with an insult?

It doesn't matter, but if I knew someone was going to post here again, I would have locked it before. So, I'll just do it now. Locked.
