~Garden of Lore~ Destiny's Edge Empty ~Garden of Lore~ Destiny's Edge

Post by crazE Tue Jul 31, 2012 3:37 pm

Myriad rays of sunlight shone through the clouds above the rooftop cottages of Silvertown, lighting the cobbled paths which shimmered with damp reflection. Birds began to sing again as the weather eased, the morning storm having long passed and left a fresh smell to the afternoon. People began to slowly recede from their cottages and begin work and other duties of the town, the usual sounds of business beginning. Although not a big town, Silvertown bustled with people, all of which helped improve and restore unity to their community. Livestock began to roam as herders released their herd into the miles of plains surrounding the town, grazing and lazing about as milkers, shearers, and other livestock workers began their duties. Within the town, poultry farmers, bakers, and the only blacksmith in town began their shops as they hoped for passing traders or even neighbors to come back and use their facilities in exchange for goods. Visitors from the previous night began to set off on their horses or simply disappear without another notice, leaving the Silvertown Inn usually empty. Silvertown, being the intersection of three different roads, was well known to have its earnings in traveling trade and its inns.

However, this is not what the story takes place for. On the outskirts of the small town, near the smaller Glaive road, a boy sits upon a crate nonchalantly, leaning his brown-haired head against the cold clay that made up the wall of the cottage he was currently loitering at. His brown eyes looked about with disinterest as he fixed the collar on his wool jacket, tightening it a little more around him. he flicked at the ground with his very worn woolen shoes, sighing as he observed the area about him. Kids from the town surrounded him as usual, talking and discussing about pointless things that he did not want to listen to. They always followed him everywhere since three weeks ago, when he fought of wolves who were attempting to terrorize the livestock. As he looked back on it, he felt a little irritated that so many people were praising him. It was just something he felt he needed to do. However, he wished he weren't punished for it as well, for when Ms. Aldern heard of it....

His focus on his thoughts faltered as a man approached him. "....And this is Ryon, our 'town hero'." the man chuckled, slapping the boy on the back. The boy, known as Ryon, stood up, fixing up the breeches he wore as he nodded to whom he was being introduced to. He gave a short glare at the comment 'town hero' before focusing on the people at hand. They were definitely foreigners, for their attire assumed that of harsher weather. Not only that, their skin color was lighter, their physique itself slightly different. His inquiry raised as the man continued. "Ryon will show you to your new cottage. I have to go run, but I will return to get you best acquainted in the town." The man then bent down, hissing into Ryon's ear, "Take them to the cottage down the road a bit, the abandoned one that i know you know what it is. If you do, I'll give you something to eat. But if you don't..." the man stopped, pulling away and nodding toward the family before disappearing.

Ryon looked off after the man. He didn't know him too well, only that he was the black-haired wimpy baker near the center of town, but it appeared that everyone in the town knew him. And treated him the same. 'Do this or else', or 'complete this or this.' Treated as usual like a slave. That's how it was for orphans, now that Ryon thought about it. They had nothing left to do, no real purpose to anybody, and so sent out to do things for everyone else. Ms. Aldern made sure of that. Ryon didn't mind doing things for people, but the fact they had to threaten him only angered him. What if he didn't?

Once again, Ryon had to pull his focus back to the family in front of him. A massive man stood before him, his grey eyes staring intently down at him and causing him to immediately shrink slightly. His very being was definitely intimidating; however, his stature seemed hindered, as in his right hand was a cane. By his side was a fairly slender and nice-looking woman, her kindly silver eyes looking down at Ryon as well as they both seem to be awaiting on him. In her arms lay a thick cloth which occasionally moved or made noises. Ryon immediately assumed a baby, as what else could it be? Both of them had brown hair, however the man's was definitely redder than the woman's. It made him wonder where these people came from, maybe he would ask? He shook his head, going against it. It would be considered rude as most adults told him. He sighed, thinking up what he could to say.

"Uhm, well...." he started, looking down the trail a bit. "Just follow me and I'll show you where you're staying. Do you need help with anything?"

"Ah, thank you kind sir.." The woman whispered, smiling widely with the thought of living in this wonderful village. Her light finger carefully ran through her brown hair, feeling the winds of silvertown blow her away with it's calm atmosphere. Switching her curious gaze, she looked at her husband and nudged him ever so slightly as the "town hero" was in front of her humble family. It was an awkward silence, but all she had to do was cough to get her husband's attention."Ahem.."

The man before Ryon suddenly looked up and then down at the boy slowly with the inquiry he had asked. Considering the canned man was bulky and tall: most likely a fighter of some kind or sort, it was unlikely he would ever accept help. He blinked slightly, shining a smile and responding with a light-hearted chuckle. "It would be rather kind of you, Mr. Hero, to help us carry a chest of ours." The man said, pointing behind him. "My daughter couldn't handle the weight.."

Ryon sighed at the comment "Mr. Hero", having heard that, maybe not in the same phrase, but the same meaning. It only made him shrug off the comment and focus on the rest of the request. A daughter? Ryon nodded, looking about. "Well, show me where it is, sir, and I will gladly help." he responded with a curt smile. His gaze attempted to look at where their girl might be. Was she left behind to deal with it? Or maybe his comment had a darker tone to it?...

He put the thoughts off to the side, awaiting the command.

The man smiled slightly, turning his body ever-so slightly to reveal the daughter he was talking about. Behind him; alone and on top of the chest was a young girl at about 11 years of age dressed in what appeared to be a white dress with an equally white decorative apron on her. On that apron was bright red and gold outlining streaks and on the middle were two lizard-like icy blue patterns sewed in. A mountain-dweller. Proudly, the father nodded and called out to her to get her attention. "Layla? Come over here for a second."

However, her fixed silver gaze was stuck on the mountains behind them. Snow-covered towers in which looked much more beautiful with the forest's hue bellow them in the basin which Silvertown was located at. The girl known as Layla curved her lip slowly, then turning back to see her father and what he wanted with her. "O-Oh? What is it father?" She asked, trying to brush away a wavy strand of red hair and attempting to tuck it into her bonnet-like headpiece as such. Her father stayed silent for a moment, then pointed at Ryon. "He'll be helping you carry the chest. Now- be careful and listen to him. Hes the town hero." He sternly said as if it were a lecture. Town hero? Layla's ear caught such a...weird detail. A boy...a hero? Walking up closer to her father's side, Layla catches a long glimpse of Ryon, only sputtering out what seemed to be a timid welcome. "H-Hello there.."

Ryon looked upon the girl that had been hidden behind them, his eyes widening at her features. Scarlet red hair hidden within the bonnet, her astounding silver eyes like her mother. Her attire was definitely foreign from anywhere in the area, and if Ryon assumed correctly by how many travelers he'd seen, it incited the mountain peoples high in altitude miles from here. her age didn't seem that far off from his own at all; in fact, he assumed she was the same age as him, maybe a month or two off. He gazed at her a long moment, nodding and waving. "Hi..." he responded before his attention turned to the chest that was on the ground behind them. He approached, eyeing the girl with distant curiosity as he passed between the two parents, feeling his arm gently brush against hers as he cut by. He went over to the side of the chest, gripping the iron handle and hefting it. It was definitely heavy, causing him to huff slightly. However, he successfully had half the chest off the ground. "Alright," he said, nodding down the road, "Your cottage is down that way. You may start ahead a little and I'll say when to stop."

"Wow, hes a strong lad ain't he, Byuren? And thank you, child...we'll follow~" Said the woman carrying the child. The tall man with the cane looked back and smiled, lifting up a couple of wolf-fur bags and nodding then after. "What a wise choice to have moved to Silvertown, Eileen. Maybe the boy gets his strength from his father." With a slight pause, Byuren began to move forward. "Maybe his father and I could spar someday- Come along you three."

Layla then gave a slight nod at Ryon as she smiled timidly. Despite her father's orders, she stayed put and grabbed the other end of the chest to pick it up as well. Ryon seemed to be a rather nice and down-to-earth boy, very modest despite being a hero of sorts. But the way he looked at her made her a little uneasy- she stayed frozen in place like a deer for more than a minute until shaking her head and pushing forward with the chest. "I'm...I'm Layla, and you are..?"

Ryon simply coughed at the comment about a father, looking away a long moment before the girl spoke. He turned back to look at her, smiling slightly. "My name is Ryon." he replied, starting forward with a slight huff. As he kept in pace with the girl known as Layla and her family, he looked back. His group of followers were pointing and staring at the girl he was helping. They seemed intrigued as well. He turned back to the road, finally grunting out and putting the chest down as he slowed to the front of a well-kept cottage.

"Here you are," he said as he caught his breath slightly, "This is the cottage." He took upon himself to begin observing the family a little more. They seemed slightly beaten from the traveling, the man upon closer observation obviously worn enough to have a cane with him. Was he injured? sickly? He shook his head as he gripped the chest again, looking at the girl known as Layla. "I can do this alone," he said, motioning for her to let go.

"What do you mean?" Layla asked quietly, slightly letting go of the handle to the chest. Was it because she was a girl? This angered the young girl slightly upon assuming Ryon was throwing her out of helping because of gender. How dare he! "Umph!" She huffed, finally letting go of the handle in slight defeat. Somehow, Layla couldn't get her way. The young girl whispered softly, then backed away. "...Alright then, t-thank you."

Byuren looked up at the cottage in front of him and smiled, then with a bit of effort the burly man came up to Ryon and smiled with a joy like no other. "Back In our town, we didn't have homes like this. We lived in windmills. Those mills were used to do many things, and their tall structures were ideal for everyone- even an Ex-Knight like me." He chuckled, reaching out for the door and opening it. "Eileen? You should see the room in this place.."

Ryon raised an eyebrow at her sudden slamming of the chest, making him huff at being slightly pulled by it. "Uhm... you're welcome." he started, leaning over and grabbing the other side of the chest and hefting it powerfully, his body quivering slightly as he grunts at the effort. It indefinitely carried most of their things. Being steady, Ryon made his way into the cottage after them on firm but slightly shaky legs. "W-Where would you like it?" he inquired, keeping it held firm in his hands, and yet feeling it deplete his energy fairly well.

His mind held in a phrase that sparked his interest, but never minded asking, putting it off until later. But his interest in this family was even more as the thought of this man being an ex-knight came into his thoughts. What was it like being a knight? How many were there in the mountains? Could he meet one on duty?

"Oh don't worry about it, boy. Just leave it over there. Thanks." Chuckled Byuren quite confidently while waving his free hand forward past the door and towards the middle of a rather large room. This man, despite his scary height and position as an ex-knight, he looked rather jolly and family-oriented. It looked like he was fine with settling for a life of little to no action. However, someone didn't look quite fine with the life she had right now. Layla.

The young girl kept herself quiet and reserved while she stayed put just behind her father and besides her equally as quiet mother. Eileen herself was in a state of semi-deep thought, ignoring the request of her husband to view the new place they were going to be settling at. Eileen soon snapped into attention and nodded at Byuren, then gave a glance at Layla with a slight, perky smile. "Something wrong, darling?"

"N-Nothing, why..?"

"You seem a little quiet right now, you're usually such a ball of pep~" she joked. Layla simply gave a sigh and tapped her foot on the cobblestone ground. "I don't know...-" Coughing, the young girl crossed her arms and looked down, mumbling quietly. "Ijustdon'tfeelverywelcomehere..."
