Historians say that man was once enslaved by dragons. For centuries, the humans worked tirelessly beneath their dragon overlords. It is said that the humans were no better off than cattle, farmed to become food for dragons as they worked to care for their young and create enormous caves that connected the continents together. Much of this has been lost to age, but some tunnels can still be found, crossing the Origin Mountains and beneath the continent of Ermith.

It was around this time that the close proximity to dragons gave the humans some abilities. Magic was once impossible for humans, but it was not long before the first mage was born into the human blood. The mother, frightened that the dragons might eat her child for holding the gift of magic, hid the babe away from the sight of her dragon lords. She escaped the caves where she worked and stumbled into the forest to the west of the mountains. The forest was home to elves, to whom magic was as simple as breathing.

When the mother stumbled into a vigil of elves, she was nearly killed on the spot, as the elven folk did not take kindly to humans. Heavily wounded but still breathing, the mother handed over her child to the elves and pleaded them to watch over the babe. She feared for the fate of her child, and though she was dying from an elven arrow, she pleaded endlessly to the elves to spare her child. The mother never heard the elves agree to her request, she died before any of them could respond. The elves did, however, take the child in, possibly out of repentance for being too quick to judge a human.

The vigil of elves stood solemnly as a circle around the mother's body, still holding onto her crying babe. For the first time in all elven history, they would accept a human into their vigil. Such a thing was against everything that the elves believed in, but they did it out of pity for the mother, and in the hope that something might change in this ever-still world.

"The babe, what shall we do, Va'sammath?" The elf who spoke reached down and collected the crying babe into his arms. His face, angled and sharp, was filled with pity. The young elf turned to the one whom he called Va'sammath, the keeper of the vigil, and gestured with a thin arm towards the mother. "This was a mistake, we should not have shot her so quickly."

"Still yourself, Dirthe," Va'sammath spoke, his voice older and wiser. Elves were naturally much taller than any human woman and their thin, lithe bodies made it a simple task for them to maneuver around heavily wooded areas. "Can you feel the rhythm, Dirthe? The song is in this child's blood."

The vigil stood quietly, their eyes closed as they listened. Sure enough, each one could feel the magic flowing through the child. The first magic born into human blood. This worried some of the elves, Va'sammath knew, but he stilled their fears with his own calm song. "I will take the babe. The humans have suffered under dragon rule enough, I will not sit idly by and let their savior die by elven hands."

"Is that wise, Keeper?" Another elf spoke now. "Are you not saying too much? What if the humans do not wish to save themselves?"

"The dragons hold ancient magic," Va'sammath responded. "Even our High Keeper cannot say whether the humans wish to be saved or not. But if it is to be done, it will be by one who holds magic. I will raise the child myself. My own child would be glad for the company, I am sure."

Things you need to know:

-The human child who was born into magic is the main character
-Your character is an elf, still young and desires adventure
-The dragons have been sighted over the elf vigil multiple times, each without any conflict.
-The human child is seen as a delight to some, a danger to others, and an abomination to the rest.
-Elves are gifted in both combat and magic. Thus, you will have two stats for calculating ability costs.
--Energy measures what you can do with physical abilities. Limited to 25 EN at level 1.
--Magic measures what you can do with magical abilities. Limited to 10 MA at level 1.

More about the new Energy and Magic systems will be explained in the tutorial.
