So she was still in the same boat as he was. Only with time would their memories come back, if they were to come back at all. Broken raised an eyebrow at her last statement however. Her body was a confusing place? "What...uh, what do you mean by that?" he asked inquisitively, but was forced to come to a halt. He stuck an arm out in front of Zein to caution her to stop walking as well. They had made a bit of progress into the woods along the solitary path, but now, there was the sound of someone approaching from the opposite direction. As it turned out, it was two women who looked rather similar. They could have been twins, but they weren't...typically human. Their skin was gray...maybe silver, and their clothes--long dress robes--were of the same hue. They wore crimson mascara and had crimson teardrops painted upon their cheeks. They wore matching lipstick, and their eyes didn't deter from this dark red theme. The pupils were slightly slitted, yet so serene. An aura of a solemn nature seemed to cling to these two beings, their long, straight silver hair flowing down their backs, unmoving due to the lack of a breeze in this eery place.
"Outsiders. How curious." One of them spoke in a soft, monotonous voice. She raised her hand. Her twin did the same. From somewhere up above in the branches of the dead trees, two of the same insects from before descended and landed between the two women and the "outsiders."
Broken lowered his arm and unsheathed his sword. Resentment had already leaped from his arms to the ground and hid behind him. "Damn, if these are the natives, we're fucked," Broken cursed, a growl mixed in with his words. "Here's hoping they're not all this hostile."

Zein had paused as Broken stopped zir, casting him an amused glance, but then they had company. Immediately Zein conjured energy channeled through zir little ring, zir eyes narrowed at the 'outsiders' comment. It woke an old feeling that took a moment to identify as hurt anger, but ze didn't have the time to examine it. "We'll have to take them down quick. You think we can manage it?"

They were even more horridly outnumbered than before, not to mention he had no idea what those girls were capable of. With that in mind, he didn't know how to respond to Zein. Though he genuinely thought they could beat their new foes, he realized that was definitely a more optimistic view--not necessarily a realistic one. "I'm sure as long as we stand strong together as we did before, we cannot be beaten," he wound up stating with perfect confidence, his eyes blazing with a strange and familiar fire. It felt so right being in this position for some reason, but he shrugged that aside. Taking a look behind him, he noticed Resentment standing there. Him and Zein needed all the help they could get.
"I know you're not fully recovered, and I don't know what sort of tricks you have up your sleeve, but.... Resentment, please. Can you help us?" Broken pleaded to the small creature who seemed so saddened by their plight. The creature's yellow eyes seemed to glow that much more brighter as a look of resolve settled upon his visage. Instead of clinging to Broken's legs, Resentment backed away and stood strong, just like his allies. "Haha, that's the way," Broken said gruffly and smiled, turning back around quickly to face the oncoming enemies. "Now the odds are at least a bit more evened I'd say."

Zein didn't much like the look of them but got the distinct feeling that they, zir and Broken, were being tested on something. The feeling probably wouldn't pan out to much, but Zein took it seriously regardless. Ze cast the strengthening spell that seemed to help some before on Broken, feeling it wash over zir as well.
"Alright, have at 'em."

The power he felt from the last battle washed over them--a magnificent boon granted to him by his newfound ally. So little time spent fighting together and yet they already had a wonderful synergy. The creatures from before had taken the offensive while the odd women in the back made minimal attempts to advance. One of them had cast some sort of weird magic on Zein. "Are you all right?" he asked her while raising his blade and bringing it down viciously upon the insectoid in front of him. Its attack had hardly bothered him at all; it was nothing but a nuisance at this point. But the humanoids on the other hand...there was something completely unsettling about them, their speech, and their mere presence. Something just felt very off. "Resentment, cover Zein," Broken ordered of his partner, hoping that there would be something that the small creature could do.

Resentment uses Shadow Will on Zein! [Bestows Shell]

Resentment responded firmly and positively to Broken's direction, turning to face the intended target of his protection. Closing his glowing yellow eyes, the shadows in the area seemed to start waving and moving, taking on a life of their own. They snaked across the ground and through the air until they formed a consolidated sphere around Zein. The darkness faded until the apparent barrier became translucent so that Zein could see out of it. Resentment crooned as if it were proud of itself and what he had accomplished.
Resentment waits.

Zein opened zir mouth to respond but zir vocal chords would not cooperate. Ze tried to call up energy, anything, into zir hand but nothing happened. Zein was defenseless now. Their magic...it was dangerous, and as such, Broken deemed them as larger threats than the insectoid creatures from before. His blade surged to life with an aura of silver, and he swung it without mercy against the woman. These beings may or may not have been human, but even if they were, there could be no relenting against them. The blade sliced through the woman's torso, the aura transferring from his blade to the wound.

This was it. There was nowhere left to run but back through the path, and Zein couldn't abandon Broken to these strange woman. Ze calmed zirself with a deep and slow breath then conjured forth ghostly energy, a little surprised that ze could do it even under this strange enchantment. But, no matter. Zein could still fight back. With a smirk, ze blasted the insect advancing on zir.

The one that was now bleeding by his blade had settled for fleeing turning only to make him cringe in pain as a harsh hex of some sort was cast upon him. He realized that his vocal cords were no longer working as he had went to scream out in pain--the other witch must have placed a different curse on him, the same one that was placed upon Zein. That explained why she was so quiet. Things would continue to be quiet at that because Broken certainly wouldn't be speaking anytime soon. Regardless, that would not deter him. Shrugging off the pain, he lunged forth and stabbed the woman right in the torso, trying to keep the pressure on her and the attention of the foes on him. The more he could keep them distracted, the safer Zein would be until she recovered from her affliction.

Zein blew out a breath, bouncing on zir heels for a moment as ze decided what to do. Broken seemed to be handling the witches well enough on his own, and all the better in Zein's opinion. It'd be best to keep these stupid bugs off his back then. Ze sidestepped the bug in front of zir and flung a ball of energy at the further one. That'd probably gain its attention.

The witch appeared to be forced to relent again, trying to gain distance between her and broken. Little did she know, she was playing right into Broken's hand. She was far enough from Zein now that the girl should be safe enough for him to turn around and lay waste to the insectoid creatures. Turning on a heel, he dashed forward, sword outstretched. He came to a halt, but not before his sword had sliced through the insect he wound up next to. Finally, they had managed to get one down, but the paleness in Zein's face...there was something wrong. Things were still on a heavy decline, and Broken couldn't communicate with his partner due to the hex of the witches. He would be forced to pray that everything would wind up okay. Pray to who even? What foul deity rules over a realm such as this? Broken pondered as he waited in silence for his next chance to strike.

The mystic gasped and stumbled as the insects coupled attacks left zir weak. Ze moved away from the second bug that seemed, balanced against a withered tree on the other side of the path and whimpered a little. Ze was surprised to learn that ze knew exactly what getting hit with poison felt like and it was not by any means pleasant. "Broken . ." At this rate, Zein would likely be down in the next minute so ze had to do something to make sure Broken would last long enough.

The attacks made upon him by the odd women were nothing compared to the fact that Zein was on her last legs and there was less and less that he could do about it. His body set to quivering as his shoulders dropped and he looked down towards the ground. The hex placed upon him kept his mouth shut; no sound would emerge even if he deigned to open it. Steps so fast...he was as a blur. Looming over the insectoid creature that posed the highest threat to his companion, Broken raised his blade. There was a sickening sound as the weapon sliced right through the creature, and despite it being still alive, there was no doubt that it would take minimal effort to extinguish its existence. Broken said nothing, obviously, but when he looked up, he gazed into Zein's eyes, a fierce fire burning within his own. She looked...sick. So sick. And the numerous lacerations on her form were bleeding, the freshest ones moreso than the older ones which were beginning to clot. She needed to be cared for, and it hurt that there was nothing he could do at the moment to alleviate her suffering. If we didn't need a rest before, we'll definitely need one now, he thought with a sigh. His body finally ceased its trembling. He had to remain strong. Now that there was practically just the women to worry about, things were starting to look up. His main goal was keeping Zein alive, no matter what it might cost him.

"Okay, just . . hold it together." Zein groaned, the insect's fast acting poison working through zir system but ze could do this. Ze could. Ze raised zir hand, trying to struggle to zir feet at the same time, and fired off a blast of energy at the bug. Ze grabbed on to Broken's shoulder for a minute to catch zir balance, looking down at the incinerated thing. "Huh. Well that hasn't happened before."

Broken's mouth opened as he felt Zein's hand on his shoulder as if seeking support. There was no doubt in his mind that she was on her last legs. This had to end. He placed a hand on her hand, keeping it there for but a moment before gently removing it and holding it, making sure she could stand, or if she needed to sit, she could back away and get some rest while he finished things, though he realized that he was pushing his own limits as well. How much longer would he himself be able to hold out? Things weren't looking good for either of them but there was no turning back. It was all or nothing. Blade flashing, Broken advanced upon the weakened woman. He was hexed again and could not speak, but that would not stop him from running his sword through her chest.

Zir gaze fell on Broken's hand over zirs when he silently offered zir support. But the moment fell away as the battle had yet to be won, and there was one thing that weighed on Zein's mind - ze would not make it. Ze could almost feel the venom arcing towards zir heart, and as ze raised zir hand for a last stand, the mystic accepted that this was zir fate. Zein fired a blast ghostly energy at the last standing woman, hopefully softening her up for Broken to take down.
Zein casts Geist Shard [-6 MP] on Elena! 7 Int damage!
With that the last dregs of Zein's strength drained away, and ze slouched to zir knees. Zir heart squeezed painfully in zir chest, constricting in its attempt to pump blood and fight off the intruding substance but ultimately failing. Zein dropped to the side, conscious no more and would soon be dead without help.

Sensing a faint pulse from Zein, Broken realized she was okay. Well, not dead, really. She was far from okay. She wouldn't need to take further action, however, because Broken was planning on ending it now. With both of them on the brink of death, there was no other choice. None. A single step. An aura of dread. A flash of the blade. Out of the corner of his eye, he could see the woman smiling next to him. Despite this being the felling blow, she felt no fear. What was there to lose in this abyssal realm? There was no telling. The sound of Broken's blade swishing through the air and tearing through the flesh of the woman's neck resounded through the area, breaking the ethereal silence. The woman's head rolled along the ground, the same knowing smile on her face--frozen there for what would be an eternity now. Always knowing.

What? Zein's eyes blinked open and saw the dark ground before them. Ze rolled over and looked up at Broken, who was smiling gently down at zir. Ze frowned. Zir heart wasn't doing that strange hammer-squeeze thing anymore . . . ze still felt like shit, but perhaps the venom had worked out of zir system before it could completely rob zir of life. Zein blinked up at zir companion. "So I'm not dead?" If so, that was a relief. Although, there was no way to tell if they could actually die here, as there was also no way to tell if they were already dead and in some weird kind of limbo as spirits. Or Hell. It could be Hell. Ze wouldn't put it past this place.

"My child, your prayer shall not go unheard," a somber man stated, his form seemingly floating as his frayed robes shifted in a nonexistent breeze as if they had a life of their own. A nearby streetlight shed a dim glow making two large gauntlets with sharpened claws gleam in the fluorescence. The large gates behind him remained shut and locked, and for good reason. There was no passing them as it was. Breaching Ethesna wasn't the man's number one goal at the moment, no. He was waiting. "Not go unheard, but this is a situation that must be handled with genuine care." Floating about, the man scanned the area with his glowing crimson eyes. They would be upon him soon. And it wouldn't be long before the Ethesnans summoned the Riddance. Despite the amazing power he possessed, not even he could face the Riddance.
"Should the voidlings not be fed, it will be my claws that have their hunger sated. At least if time becomes of the essence," the man said to himself, a slight smirk revealing razor sharp teeth--each and every one of them. It was nice to find a reason to smile in such a dismal place. Of all the realms he had to be forced to visit...
...it just had to be the Void.

Broken smiled down at Zein and knelt down in front of her. "Of course you are not dead, Zein," he said cheerily despite feeling like absolute shit. The magic those females cast was so insanely powerful. He hoped that all the people of this realm were not that hostile. Their lives had genuinely been at risk, and that was frightening. Resentment had reformed and crawled up next to Zein, nudging her with his head gently. "Easy, neither of us are going anywhere anytime soon," Broken gently reprimanded the creature before exiting his kneel in favor of sitting on his bum. It was much more comfortable that way. And it was true. They were both so injured that it wouldn't do well to start moving about, especially if more danger awaited them farther down the solitary road. Resentment settled himself down on the ground next to Zein, lying on his stomach and closing his eyes for a brief snooze. How he could sleep in a place like this was beyond Broken, but if the creature really did originate from this realm, then he figured it wasn't that big of a surprise.
"Are you tired? If you want to get some sleep, I can stand watch," Broken offered. He wasn't sure if it was possible to be sleepy in this place, for he was just tired...physically, that is. His muscles ached, but he didn't feel like sleep. He just didn't feel like moving for a while. And though he knew they were taking a rest, he also knew they couldn't just stay there forever. There would come a point where they had to rise once more and head down the path in search of their memories, along with figuring out where the hell they were once and for all.

Zein simply nodded as Broken reassured zir that ze was most certainly not dead. Yet, at least. The little black creature had nudged up against zir and ze smiled at it as the thing laid down beside zir. After a moment, Zein reached over and petted its furry back, a little surprised at the calmness the repetitive action provided. At Broken's question Zein shrugged, not moving away from Resentment. "I guess. I don't feel like I could sleep, not really. You know, like when you sort of doze off in the middle of the day but it's too bright to go to sleep? Ze cast zir gaze at him before ze realised that no, he probably didn't know, and neither did ze really. The idea just sort of flowed without Zein really thinking about it.
Quirking a frown, Zein continued. "I don't like this place. I don't like not knowing where we are. I don't like not knowing what else is trying to kill us." Ze rolled over on zir side towards Broken's little friend. "I guess I just don't like not knowing."

Broken also frowned, crossing his legs and clasping his hands together as he thought. Searching for his memories in his mind led to a sharp pain and he relented. No, he did not know at all. Actually, there were few things that he did know. One was that he was lost. Another was that he had amnesia. Yet another was that he also did not like not knowing. "Yes...that is how I knew I would have no problems keeping watch. I couldn't sleep, I'm sure, even if I wished to do so. I probably won't be able to rest easy until I'm a hundred percent certain that we're safe," the man explained, shaking his head. Would they ever know the comfort of safety again, though? At this point in time, it seemed unlikely. Golden eyes gazing ahead, the path seemed to go on forever. Would it even end or were they destined to wander down this path to oblivion for eternity?
In the end it wound up being too dismal to think about and he wound up somewhat meditating--trying to clear his already emptied mind. Though it was not full of memories, but worries. "We will know eventually. As long as we persist down this path, I'm sure we'll know. Just rest easy for now, and we'll get a move on as soon as you're ready," Broken murmured as he closed his eyes while keeping his other senses sharpened. Safe? Well, that didn't sound at all likely. When Zein thought of 'safe' it conjured up vague images of a bed, walls, ceiling, and a sort of pervading sense of longing and loss. That didn't feel like it was a happy memory, if the mystic would ever be able to access it. Regardless, ze clung to it, because everything else felt like trying to grasp dark oil in zir hands, and all ze could do was watch it squeeze between zir fingers. Ze listened to Broken promise to keep watch and smiled a little. As before, his presence did offer something of comfort. Just to know that ze wasn't facing this dark, strange world alone made it that much more bearable. Also, it was really cute.
Zein grinned and rolled over again onto zir knees, leaning closer to Broken. "You're just too adorable, you know that? Mr. Tall, Dark, and Mysterious." Ze laughed and stretched forward to plant a kiss on his nose. "I'll bet you're all kinds of gooey on the inside."

Broken's eyes shot open at the second he felt soft lips upon his nose in a gentle kiss, and his cheeks were instantly set afire with a crimson blush. He wasn't sure about all of what she said, but it was nice that she was so fond of him...not like he was trying. "Gooey on the inside, eh? Reminds me vaguely of a delicious dessert," Broken offered lightheartedly. It seemed she saw through his hardened demeanor. Here, he gave a little chuckle. "I didn't take you to be the type to be so affectionate," he mentioned. She definitely had caught him off guard which was a true achievement.
Resentment peeked one eye open and grinned to himself. Broken caught sight of it and just shook his head with a smile. "You need to be careful with saying those kinds of things though. I'd hate for the monsters to catch wind that I'm actually a huge softy," Broken said teasingly, putting a finger to his lips. His golden eyes seemed to be alight with mirth. It was a pleasant and nostalgic feeling. When was the last time he had been this happy? He didn't have his memories, but for some reason he felt like it had been a really, really long time.

Zein just kinda rolled zir eyes and grinned. "Well, you know. There's all kinds of stuff I don't remember about myself, at least I'm not an asshat?" Ze suggested, tempted to stick zir tongue out too, just to be funny. Broken was smiling and blushing as bonus, so Zein's mission was complete. That sounded like a good daily mission to zir, make Broken smile, for whatever reason. Yeah, that was good. At his last statement, Zein scoffed. "What, like the big sword and coat aren't enough to tell 'em you're so badass?" Ze pushed at his shoulder playfully. "Come on, man."
Ze sat there just beaming for a moment, until, "Hey wait, you sorta remembered something! That's good, right?" Zir eyebrows rose in a hopeful expression.
