Spirit's Resolution: The Invasion of Mana - Page 8 Empty Re: Spirit's Resolution: The Invasion of Mana

Nastasia wanted desperately to bite down hard on her lip as Claire relayed information about the shamblers living within the marsh. She wanted to wake up. Surely this would have to be a nightmare. No metropolis of monsters could be this organized––not in a reality she knew of! But the young sorceress did not bite her lip. It would have ruined her lipstick, and she likely would have given herself a bloody lip. That wouldn't look good at all. Nastasia simply nodded silently. This was real. No, not just real, this was a reality in which Claire and Vaughn regularly lived. In which many people much more powerful than Nastasia, herself, lived and survived. As much as she did not wish to believe it, she knew that she was not dreaming and would not back down now.

"So I'll stick close to you and Vaughn," she responded evenly, glancing back at the maps and strategies. "My spells all have a decent range. I don't have to get super close to start whittling them down for you guys." Nastasia's lips pursed into a thin line. She wondered how many fights they would get into in any of the situations Claire had mapped out. "Hopefully Netta is close by and this will go smoothly enough," she whispered.

Netta didn't care what the woman thought of her.All she was really trying to do was figure out if the nut was any good or not. It seemed fine, not quite like the acorns that grew back home. Her mind figured out, Netta jumped up and climbed onto the higher branches to gather more of the nuts she had found in the tops of the trees. After popping one in her mouth herself, she wasn't too surprised by the taste. Seeing someone else eat a nut and not regurgitate it immediately had that kind of effect on her. Too bad the shells were soft, she could really cause some damage by throwing these things.

Netta seated herself in the high branch, mounting it like she would one of the forest wolves. She rested her back up against the base of the tree and watched the sky pass her by. She was high enough to see though part of the canopy of leaves. High enough that any ground-dwellers would have a very hard time of seeing, hearing, or even smelling her. Especially since she was covered in the marsh's scent. Natalia began to wonder, though. Would Vaughn and the others come for her? She hoped not. That would be incredibly stupid of them. This Felicia seemed to have a death wish as well, heading right into the place where the marsh creatures resided. Netta didn't want to have anything to do with that. If she could get past the marsh area and into a less wet forest, like the one right outside the noisy city, she would be content.

Natalia was supposed to be dead, anyway.

Spirit's Resolution: The Invasion of Mana - Page 8 Empty Re: Spirit's Resolution: The Invasion of Mana

In what seemed like a mere flash, the night had come to a close. The rush of the dance had long died down and the liquor had already lost its flavor to him. Now was the time to return back to Claire to see if she had made any headway with the research, so Wolfgang picked himself up and began making his way back. The full eventide washed over the sky, and unlike the endless night of Paragon, the stars shown in full bloom, without obscurity from the clouding fumes. Wolfgang made it back to Claire's home and knocked a few times on the door.

"I'm back."

Spirit's Resolution: The Invasion of Mana - Page 8 Empty Re: Spirit's Resolution: The Invasion of Mana

Post by Masquerade Sun Jul 12, 2015 11:23 am

Claire had nodded in agreement mere hours ago to Nastasia's statement.  The key here would be how far Netta had made it into the marsh.  That girl was so brazen and confident that she could survive, but Claire knew better.  She was the one who had lived in this dimension all her life.  She knew the hazards that threatened to topple civilization itself that stayed right there in that very marsh.  She had asked Nastasia to rest up and relax for the next few hours because she was going to need it.  Meanwhile, Claire would continue tirelessly going over her plans and possibilities.  She packed a bag full of things that might come in handy--provisions, medicine, handy magical artifacts that she had collected.  Anything that would help, really.  There was a key to every plan she considered.  She poured over tomes containing shambler history and lifestyle.  She learned a great many things from her research with one special tidbit in particular that would lead to the shamblers' downfall.  In theory it was easy to put an end to them forever, but no city had ever been courageous enough to attempt it.  In reality, Claire discovered that an army wasn't needed for this; a small covert stealth force was.  To assassinate the royalty and destroy the Seed Chamber.  Those were the two goals needed to end the shamblers' rain of tyranny...forever.

At some point, Vaughn had come back to the house.  He had an empty milkshake container from Acuatl Cone proving that Claire had been correct.  He joined Claire in going over the plans and such and making preparations.  Time continued to pass.  Clare decided to take a nap for the last hour before they were to set out while Vaughn gathered everything near the door that they were taking.  He decided to pile up on the couch and watch a little television.  Claire's alarm on her phone went off at 7:50pm as she had planned.  She had slept well enough and got up with ease.  She was already dressed and ready to go.  Putting on her shoes, she left her room and headed back to the entrance of the house where everyone else would be waiting.  She picked up her bag and put it on her back.  She glanced at the other two and gave affirming nods instead of some rousing speech.  Nothing really needed to be said.  This mission could lead them to success or to their deaths.  It was a shame that Wolfgang wasn't able to help them, but he was out getting accustomed to life in Myridan for the time that he would be here.  Claire could not blame him.  She would make do with what she had.

Inventory updated!

With everything set, the group departed the household.  Claire left the door unlocked just in case Wolfgang returned before they did.  She wasn't worried about anyone breaking in.  She had something set up in the case that that should happen.  Leading the group along, they walked all the way to the marsh entrance.  The city streets weren't too crowded on a Wednesday night.  People were at home with their families and getting ready for the next work day.  The only ones out were singles and people who had no other attachments or responsibilities.  They were the ones that typically enjoyed the night life spending a lot of time at the clubs and pubs down in the South District.  The streets had few people but the marsh entrance was completely deserted.  The visitor center had long been closed for the day and the gates were closed and locked.  No one was supposed to enter the marsh after dark because of increased shambler activity during the nighttime hours.  Upon reaching this obstruction, Claire merely shrugged.  Reaching into her bag, she retrieved a strange white stick that kind of looked like chalk.  Sighing, she began shading in some of the bars on the gate, white material rubbing off on them from the stick.  She shaded four in total and when she was done, she pushed on them only to have her hand go through them like they weren't even there.

"Take caution; it is a one way trip," Claire advised as she ducked in through the space, walking into the large clearing on the cliff that marked the beginning of the marsh.  The wooden cabin that served as the visitor center was dark and locked to be sure.  Only a couple of outdoor lights were on but the sky was clear and the lights from the city were also bright.

Vaughn ducked in through the space as well, helping Nastasia through it.  "Well here we are.  I suppose it's my time to shine?"

"Nastasia, watch closely," Claire said sharply as Vaughn prepared himself.

"O magnificent watchtower!  Shed your brilliant light and lend your all-seeing eye to me!" Vaughn chanted as he closed his eyes and concentrated.  The Spirit from within him surged outwards and twisted wildly around him like a whirlwind.  "My body, I give unto you!  My soul, we are as one!"  The Spirit storming about him began to shred his body, every part torn and rent disappearing into a cloud of dust before being absorbed by the storm.  "Vizorus!  The time for your presence in this realm is nigh!"  With that, Vaughn was gone and there was nothing but the whirlwind that abruptly stopped and converged upon itself, taking a shape that was definitely not human.  In a flash of bright light and a slight shockwave of Spirit energy, a strange construct stood in Vaughn's place.  It was a tower at least ten feet high and made of a glowing blue stone.  Small windowless openings dotted the construct and at the very top was a large telescope also made of a glowing blue material, the lens focused up at the sky.

"You know what to do, Vizorus," Claire said softly watching as the construct's telescope angled downwards and focused on the marsh.  The lens, previously clear, blinked and became a large eyeball with a blue iris and a slitted pupil.  It scanned the area and eventually became focused on a single point in the marsh.

"An easy find," a deep male voice tinged with age spoke suddenly.  The sound emanated from the tower.  "Marsh Shallows.  Close to the portion of the walkway leading straight to the Conservatorium."  The eyeball vanished leaving no lens in its place.  A blue sphere shot out of the telescope like a cannon, flying through the sky and coming to a halt at a certain point not too terribly far away from their current position.

"Do you see that, Nastasia?!" Claire suddenly let out in glee.  "The location has been marked and it's not too far away!  We can do this!"

Spirit's Resolution: The Invasion of Mana - Page 8 Empty Re: Spirit's Resolution: The Invasion of Mana

Post by Silver Sun Jul 12, 2015 11:55 am

As much as Nastasia had wanted to stay and help Claire with her preparations, the thaumaturge had insisted otherwise. The young sorceress supposed she could not argue––unlike Claire and Vaughn, her power would be pretty heavily diminished against these natural-born Spirit creatures. Having all of her energy and being prepared for anything would ultimately be for the best. With that in mind, Nastasia bounded back upstairs and into her bathroom. Although Claire had done a fantastic job with the make up, keeping it on for tonight's activities seemed silly and she quickly went about undoing the masterpiece that the thaumaturge had worked so hard on.

She watched the glorious reds and pinks and blacks and flesh colors swirl down the drain silently. It had taken quite a bit of make up remover (which she had found in the cabinet, likely Claire's doing) but now she looked like her own usual, unfortunately pale self. She did not frown at the thought. As ghostly white as she was, she knew deep down that she did not need Claire's artwork to look pretty––it certainly was a confidence booster though. Maybe the thaumaturge would help her again for some other important occasion? Nastasia made a mental note to inquire about the possibility when it was more appropriate, shifting back to her room and plopping back down on the bed.

There had been quite a bit of time between when she laid down and when she got up again, but this time, surprisingly, had been spent asleep. The manager hadn't even realized that she had been so tired, but no sooner had she fell onto the bed had she fallen into a gentle slumber. Her eyes drifted to the clock on her bed. It read 7:30. With it being so close to the time that she and the others were to leave for the Marsh, Nastasia pulled herself together, heading back into the bathroom to wash the sleep from her eyes and prepare. She manually swapped out of her interview clothes into her old garments, slipping into her heels before she made her way downstairs to join Claire and Vaughn.

Nastasia remained deathly silent as the three made their way to the marsh. She only offered Vaughn a murmured "thank you" as he helped her through the portal Claire had created in the fence. Other than that, she would have stayed perfectly silent and been quite content to if it hadn't been for the little demonstration. The surge of Spirit that Vaughn called for elicited a small gasp from the sorceress––it was quite potent and, even if it wasn't the energy she was accustomed to, she could feel the tinges of its power. Of course, her mouth fell open as the energy began to rend Vaughn's body into many pieces. She wondered to herself if that hurt, but didn't have time to consider the possibility as a tower stood in Vaughn's place, quickly locating Netta, who happened to be fairly close by. Nastasia smiled. "Let's go then," she responded, unable to keep her emotions in check for the moment.

Spirit's Resolution: The Invasion of Mana - Page 8 Empty Re: Spirit's Resolution: The Invasion of Mana

Post by Masquerade Mon Jul 13, 2015 1:55 pm

"One moment," Claire said sharply, taking Nastasia's hand gently. "Listen, our mission seems easy but we cannot let our guard now. There's also the issue with you not having a Psyche. I want you to know that it really stems from knowing yourself. Do you know who you truly are? If you do you should have that Psyche somewhere inside of you. I feel like in a time of great need, it will come to you. Just keep that in mind. When the time is right, call to it and have great faith. You need no incantation or magnificent display. All you need to do is be real and honest. Put yourself at the mercy of the power inside of you and surrender. It is then your true power will be released and given form in this realm: your Psyche." With that, she let go of the girl's hand and pointed off in the distance. "Now, let us proceed."

The tower shattered suddenly revealing Vaughn's form in mid-air. He fell to the ground and landed on his hands and knees, groaning. "Yes, let's move on already... My legs are so stiff--almost like they were made of stone," he said with the utmost seriousness that earned him a right slap to the head from Claire.

The trio moved along the wooden walkway and slid down the slope that they had ascended earlier when Claire first found Netta, Nastasia, and Wolfgang. They arrived in that same area on the riverbed but wasted no second glance upon it as they continued on towards the floating blue sphere in the sky. They continued along the sand, but Claire stopped. In the distance where things became more marshy, there was a floating sphere, almost invisible to the naked eye, but there was a glimmer upon it that caught her attention. It lit up immediately and zoomed off in the direction of the sphere.

"We've been spotted."

* * *

A loud wailing resounded in Felicia's mind and she opened her eyes instantly, looking around. Her Levias were returning to her which meant there was an intruder nearby. She must have fallen asleep gazing off in the distance. She rubbed her eyes quickly and undid her strap, the Levias assuming their normal formation around her. She didn't know if Natalia was awake or not but if she wasn't then she definitely needed to be. "Natalia, we have company," she said just loudly enough for it to be audible to someone a few inches away from her, assuming she was that close by. Hell, the girl could have wandered off by now but she already made it clear that staying in the tree overnight was the best idea. "Can you see what's coming? Surely those eyes have got to be sharp if you can take such sharp aim with that bow? I could light things up with my Levias, but I don't think that a wise idea." She pointed in the direction of the riverbed nearby. "The Levias that was triggered came from that direction."

Spirit's Resolution: The Invasion of Mana - Page 8 Empty Re: Spirit's Resolution: The Invasion of Mana

Post by Zerifachias Mon Jul 13, 2015 3:14 pm

Felicia was making a bunch of noise. Netta gazed down from her perch at her and easily discerned what she was saying from the distance, despite the hushed whispers. Ordinarily, Netta would have dissolved into a symphony of giggles; Felicia was being so silly, thinking Natalia didn't already know about these "intruders" and identified who they were. She had stuck a small knife into a nearby tree and listened to the vibrations when her instincts told her something was off. So of course she was awake and listening when Felicia finally woke up. She'd probably have slept through the night without her weird magic lights.

Netta had been awake the whole time, collecting small twigs and branches which she woven into a headdress of sorts to make her already-greenish hair blend in even more with her surroundings. In this darkness, no one would be able to see her, not even Felicia. But that was more on Felicia not looking up than the darkness itself. When Netta locked up, she could see a blue light coming down from the canopy of leaves. It was not the moon's light, and Netta had a feeling that it was related to Vaughn and the others.

Natalia glanced in the direction that Felicia was pointing. That was where she had initially come from, her mental map confirmed that much. She already discerned that the intruders were Claire and Vaughn and Nastasia. She wasn't stupid. Unlike this Felicia character, who couldn't even tell if these people were people or monsters.

The little hunter stood up on her branch and pulled out her bow, quickly stringing an arrow to it and taking aim in the direction of the others who were trying to find her. She didn't want them to find her in the first place, but if the light above her was any indication they already had. So she would help them out a little bit. Netta raised her aim high, pointing it towards the canopy of leaves, remaining completely still to test the paths of the wind. She turned her body slightly to account for the light breeze and paused there.

If all went as planned, the arrow would land at Vaughn's foot. And Netta wasn't one to miss her shot. She fired.

Spirit's Resolution: The Invasion of Mana - Page 8 Empty Re: Spirit's Resolution: The Invasion of Mana

Post by Silver Mon Jul 13, 2015 4:14 pm

Nastasia inhaled sharply as Claire grasped her hands. Her psyche buried somewhere deep inside of herself? Did she know who she truly was? It was a lot to process all at once––she had never really thought about herself and where she fit in the grand scheme of things; how her life was made different than anything or anyone else. She paused, not quite following along at her same distance. Just who was she? The sorceress almost voiced that question aloud but felt a disturbance no sooner than Claire had mentioned it.

Mana. Nastasia's eyes shot wide open and she reached out in an attempt to grasp it with her own. The orb of the foreign familiar substance sped off well before she had the chance. "Mana!" she breathed, eyes trained on the spot that the sphere was retreating. "T-That thing was full of mana," she said in disbelief. It couldn't possibly have belonged to Netta. She didn't even know she used the stuff! So that only meant one thing... "There's other mana users here," she whispered, unsure of how to possibly process the information.

Spirit's Resolution: The Invasion of Mana - Page 8 Empty Re: Spirit's Resolution: The Invasion of Mana

Post by Masquerade Mon Jul 13, 2015 4:27 pm

Claire was quick to conjure her rod, but she cast no spell. Instead, she swung it to the right where Vaughn stood, smacking him right in the chest with enough force to actually knock him back a bit. She could hear him coughing and struggling to catch his breath, but the arrow in the river sands was proof that she had done the right thing. Had she not been blessed with Salari, Vaughn may have been in a bit of trouble.

"There's more than just Mana here. Netta's here too," Claire said sharply, her gaze steeled and focused on the nearby grove of trees in the marsh shallows. The blue sphere hovered ominously above one tree in particular. There was no doubt that that was where they were. Claire went to step forward but Vaughn pulled her back.

"So what's the plan? We can't just approach! Even if the Mana user's magic is weak, Netta can still riddle you with arrows," Vaughn was quick to object, tugging at Claire's arm but she merely jerked it from his grasp.

"I have Salari's shield. Have you forgotten my expertise in the use of Psyche? No offense, but I can use mine far better than you can use yours," she stated coldly, striding forth into the shallows. "Follow me and I mean follow right behind me. I can shield you all from harm but only if you do as you are told." Continuing to walk forth, she called out to Netta. "Listen, Netta! Instead of attacking the ones who mean to help you, perhaps you should rethink your course of action!"

Felicia glared in the direction that the enemies were. Natalia had even gone so far as to loose an arrow upon them, whoever or whatever they were. Her eyes were sharp indeed. Felicia's were getting used to the darkness but this would not do. She wanted to execute a command for her Levias but she knew it would do nothing but attract even more unwelcome attention. A female voice emanated from the direction that Natalia shot indicating that there were people...could they be the others that were brought here? The other Mana users? No...the feeling of Mana was too weak. There was only a slight trace of it. That meant...

"Claire Connors...." Felicia whispered to herself. "Friends of yours, Natalia?" she inquired simply, keeping her eyes trained on the direction from which the others advanced.

Nastasia did not hesitate to fall into line right behind Claire. The singular arrow Netta assaulted them with was proof enough that the girl could easily strike them down without a second thought. If Claire said she could shield them from what would otherwise be certain death then Nastasia believed it and she wasn't going to waver when it came to Claire's instructions. Not in the slightest. "Netta, please! Don't do this! We're only here because we care about your safety and well being," the sorceress added, hoping that the girl would listen to them and not fire any more arrows regardless of whether or not Claire could defend them.

Spirit's Resolution: The Invasion of Mana - Page 8 Empty Re: Spirit's Resolution: The Invasion of Mana

Post by Zerifachias Mon Jul 13, 2015 5:01 pm

Did they not realize what the arrow was for? Netta frowned a little, maybe she missed her mark a little. She hoped they would pick the arrow up for her. She certainly wasn't going back for it, not yet anyway. When day broke she would go and fetch it. Other than that, she'd be down an arrow. She valued her arrows too greatly to use them for silly things like this. Natalia glanced down at where Felicia was. She seemed to get the wrong idea as well. These weren't enemies, they were friends. While Netta far preferred them not chasing after her, she wasn't going to stop them.

Netta swung herself down from her branch and landed firmly on her feet where Felicia was. The others were making noise now, and a lot of it. If they didn't quiet down, they were going to attract some of the marsh monsters. Stupid. Netta checked the ground for a quick moment before swinging herself down, grabbing hold of the branch with her arms and hanging for a split second before letting herself fall. She landed on her feet, her legs absorbing the impact easily.

Natalia set off in a light jog, moving swiftly and quietly towards the group of three. She was glad Wolfgang wasn't with them - she would have run in the opposite direction if he was there.

Spirit's Resolution: The Invasion of Mana - Page 8 Empty Re: Spirit's Resolution: The Invasion of Mana

Post by Masquerade Mon Jul 13, 2015 5:22 pm

Claire's ferocity was dispelled as soon as she saw Netta approaching them, and not armed and raring to shoot them all down either. This was to be a good reunion--not one riddled with tension and mistrust. The thaumaturge ran up to meet Netta so she wouldn't have to run the whole distance granted the girl could probably run miles without getting tired. Vaughn came trundling behind Claire; he wondered if the thaumaturge had bruised his ribs or something but that was highly unlikely. Claire wasn't nearly as physically powerful as she was magically adept. Vaughn's eye lit up momentarily, glowing an azure color the same as the stones of which his Psyche was composed. There was somebody tailing Netta. The other Mana user?

"Hello again, Netta. You know as well as I that it isn't wise to be out here," Claire said firmly. She was always so calm and resolved on the outside, but her heart definitely trembled within. She kept her voice down. The shouting before had definitely been a bad idea, but it was necessary...or so she thought. "The creatures out here are intelligent, primarily the high-ranked shamblers. Their leaders, the royalty, hate intruders and have the means to eradicate them. They know this land more than anyone; it is their home."

"Aaaah, the royalty. I was planning on heading into the Garden to dispatch of them on the morrow," Felicia spoke up. She had indeed hopped out of the tree and tailed after Netta to gauge the situation. She would have to meet the other Mana users in time anyway....along with Claire Connors. So why not now? Perhaps they all could be of some use, if they were so brazen.

Claire scoffed. "True be it that we came fully prepared to risk our lives to assassinate the royalty in order to save Netta but to willingly go out into the Garden with the express purpose to kill them is foolishness. Possible, I know now, but foolish. To take such an unnecessary risk... Who are you even?" Claire was extremely skeptical now. This was the source of the Mana from earlier. SHE was a Mana user. Where had she come from? Like the others, did she too just wind up here on the river sands, unconscious and a billion miles from home and then some?

"Felicia Auburne, at your service. I was brought here just the same way as that one," Felicia introduced herself, pointing to Nastasia. "I've managed to meet someone who has protected me, as well. Just as you are protecting a Mana user." Felicia had to hold back from speaking Claire's name. That would have definitely ruined things.

Spirit's Resolution: The Invasion of Mana - Page 8 Empty Re: Spirit's Resolution: The Invasion of Mana

Nastasia swiftly fell behind Claire despite being taller than the girl in her heels. The woman that had approached with Netta made her feel nervous––it wasn't the feeling she got from being around Claire and her magicks. This woman... Felicia... the way her mana permeated the air felt... disgusting in a way. Nastasia didn't like it one bit. The sorceress wanted to shrink down to avoid her gaze, but when the archmage pointed at her and claimed to be brought here in the same way, the sorceress stepped around Claire quickly. "What?" she questioned intently, feeling her fingers tighten––she had to try hard to keep her mana from flaring up. "You're from Alidaire as well? Where?" She could not help that her voice was shaking just a little bit.

Truth be told, the fact that the woman was from her home didn't hold much for her. Rather she was interested in where the woman belonged. If she had been part of some hostile rule then, even with Claire and Vaugh who could more likely than not handle her with their Spirit Energy, they would do well to get away from her. Although this was not Alidaire, evil still teemed. Being in a foreign world didn't change the way people acted, just the things they had to react to.

Spirit's Resolution: The Invasion of Mana - Page 8 Empty Re: Spirit's Resolution: The Invasion of Mana

Natalia scowled a little. Of course Claire would lecture her as soon as she arrived. She was no child! She knew the dangers of the wild better than anyone! It was just this wild was foreign to her, and she had to learn it. "That's stupid," Netta retorted childishly. "The only way to make it not dangerous here is to adapt to it and learn." Netta gestured to her crown of leaves and her body caked with mud. Holing themselves away from nature to make those big cities, that was what nature was so mad at them for. If they hadn't done that, there would be no conflict. At least in Netta's eyes.

Felicia had followed her. Some distance behind, but she knew that the woman followed her all the way here. Natalia frowned a little bit, was this woman really trying to intice Claire and the others to fighting a dumb fight? Netta listened to the interaction between Claire and Felicia for a moment before speaking up herself. Netta pointed an accusing finger at her, "she knows your name, Claire," Netta spoke abruptly. "I heard her. She whispered it, thinking I wouldn't hear her. But I did. She kept goading me into helping her attack the royalty, but that's stupid. She's stupid. And smells of horse." Netta wrinkled her nose a little, as if to prove her point. She didn't trust this woman to begin with.

Spirit's Resolution: The Invasion of Mana - Page 8 Empty Re: Spirit's Resolution: The Invasion of Mana

Post by Masquerade Mon Jul 13, 2015 6:55 pm

"I originate from the nation of Elendia, south of Dalmaschior," Felicia answered the sorceress simply.  So she was from Alidaire as well?  Then again, so was her Lord.  Three from Alidaire, was it?  How intriguing.  Before she could continue on, however, Netta interjected revealing that Felicia had known her name.  Was this girl's hearing that sharp?  Guess everything stays in my head from now on.  She watched as Claire's jaw dropped in disbelief.  What was going to happen now?  How was she going to lie her way out of this one?  Luckily for her, she wouldn't have to.  Things grew deadly silent and she sensed that something was very wrong.  And if she were able to, the others would surely too.

"I've grown weary of the fetid stench of human in my marsh, whether you tread near or far I can still feel your presence and I'm tired of it," a sharp malevolent female voice emanated from all around them.  "Seeing as how you wish to be here so badly, allow me to make it such that you can never leave!"  The ground began to tremble madly as enormous, thick vines burst from beneath the river sands behind the group forming an impassable wall that reached high into the sky.  More of them reached around, bursting out of the very river itself making absolutely sure that the group was encased in the marsh, and the only direction to go was deeper within...if they could even make it that far.  Also beneath the sands emerged shamblers.  Three of the basic ones scrambled around, screeching.  A couple of drones emerged from the waters, buzzing angrily with their flower parts taking careful aim at the humans that were trespassing upon their ground.

"Oh this will be a fun night~!  One that will result in a feast for my family and nobility to be sure!  If you can survive my army, then I will be glad to put your lives to an abrupt end.  Fare thee well, humans," the voice resounded one final time, cackling evilly while fading in the distance.

The ground trembled once more, but the source of this was evident.  Standing in the shallows was a shambler the likes of which they had not seen before.  Standing there was a plant-like creature like the rest taking the twisted form of a humanoid, vines contorting and tying together to form limbs and torso, muscle and sinew.  The head was eyeless, instead having thick vines wrapped around it like a blindfold.  In its hand was a massive hammer with a branch for a shaft and a thick assortment of vines forming the actually smashing part.  Regardless of what it was made of, it was strong enough to make the ground quiver.

"Seems like things are going my way after all.  Listen, we've obviously got some things to talk about, but this seems like a more pressing issue.  Whether you like me or not, we'll be working together.  Shall we?"  Her Levias danced around her going into their default defensive formation.  Her gloves glowed red like fire and she was ready to get down.  Perhaps this was just the sort of distraction she needed.

Felicia joins the party!

Spirit's Resolution: The Invasion of Mana - Page 8 Empty Re: Spirit's Resolution: The Invasion of Mana

Nastasia starts at L9!

So this woman was from Elendia. The knowledge wanted to settle the rapid fire beating in her chest, but Nastasia was unsure of whether this was good or not. She had never been outside Dalmaschior. Aaron's troupe was set to leave shortly after Alexandra's wedding, but she had never journeyed beyond the borders of the continent––she didn't quite know how the nation faired either. If a tyrant ruled there then it was beyond her.

She almost tried to ask Felicia despite not trusting her when madness arose in the form of many shamblers and what appeared to be the voice of one of their rulers. Nastasia immediately stepped back to Claire's side, almost going to hold onto her arm, but decided to just hover. Everything would be okay, but getting in Claire's way was the quickest way to find herself on the wrong end of a spell.

Netta starts in L-7

Netta found herself surrounded. What a horrid timing, too, she was just about to spill even more beans about Felicia and her sudden appearance. Arrogance wasn't the only thing about the woman Netta didn't like. Instead, she had to settle herself down and take out her bow. There were things to kill, and that voice that came from deeper in the marsh was even more arrogant and annoying than the male voice earlier. What was it with females and being so arrogant and condescending? Did they not realize that a single arrow in the right spot could kill them with ease? Why try to anger a hunter?

It didn't make any sense to her. Natalia knew her arrows were deadly. Everyone else seemed to have forgotten it. City people and nature alike forgot the sting of arrows in favor of "stronger" weapons. No one remembers how much a bow and arrow hurt. Netta would show them. She would remind them that one hunter born to nature could topple an army. Just like her mother had.

[Can be waded through]

Player Phase 1!

"Good thing I came prepared for this eventuality," Claire stated, reaching into her backpack and producing a strange glowing red spherical object.  She moved her hand over the surface of the orb which radiated a strange heat.  The red began to separate into more red, oranges and yellows--almost like the sun itself.  The thaumaturge spared a glance at Felicia.  "We may be allies now, but we will have a word when we are free of this predicament," she stated sharply.  It wasn't a question.  There would be words.  Claire would guarantee it.  With that said, she tossed the orb into the sky.  The water in the marsh shallows began to bubble and release steam as a blast of heat surged through the area.  Light began to shine from it with unbearable intensity but Claire looked right into it, unblinking.  When the light cleared, there was no water and the shamblers seemed to be in a pretty sorry shape.  The orb returned to Claire's hand of its own accord--it was now blue in color.

Claire moves to K7.

Claire uses a Heat Sphere from her backpack! [Water from battlefield removed][All enemies lose positive affinity with Water][All enemies gain negative affinity with Fire]

Vaughn waits.

Rushing into the heat of things would be great and all but Vaughn knew that going out and making himself vulnerable would only welcome attack from every damn shambler in the immediate vicinity.  He would wait patiently, his knives at the ready.  True be it that he had taken them from work, but they were assigned to him and he was free to use them however he saw fit.  Slicing up the shamblers would be simply like cutting some vegetables, only somewhat more satisfying.  Shambler Salad, perhaps?

Felicia moves to H8.

"Yeah, yeah, we'll talk and all that," Felicia brushed Claire's fierce words off easily as she slid through the sands towards her new target.  Whatever artifact that Claire had used was great.  These things were healthy in the waters of the marsh, but with the waters removed, so too was their affinity with the element.  Felicia grinned as she pummeled the plant creature in front of her twice before back-handing it with a glove covered in flame.

Felicia attacks Pheter!  2 hits!  11 Dmg per hit! (INT)

Spirit's Resolution: The Invasion of Mana - Page 8 Empty Re: Spirit's Resolution: The Invasion of Mana

Post by Silver Thu Jul 16, 2015 5:43 pm

Nastasia shielded her eyes as Claire tossed a rather potent magical sphere into the water which immediately caused all of the substance to evaporate. It also seemed to wipe the shamblers' affinity for the stuff which would no doubt make them easier to combat. Or at least easier for everyone else to combat. The sorceress mentally swore, realizing that she had failed to learn a fire-elemental spell for her repertoire––she knew that if she could figure out an incantation soon it would be a great boon in future battles. Filing that thought away for later, Nastasia watched warily as Felicia charged forward and absolutely destroyed the nearby shambler with a fiery blow.

Nastasia frowned. The girl was a much more powerful mage than herself. Not as adept as Claire in the sorceress' eyes, but still experienced regardless. As much as she hated to admit it, perhaps there was something to be learned here––from this girl she didn't trust. Nastasia looked over to Claire. "I-I'm gonna follow her," she whispered, "I promise I'll be careful." And without giving the thaumaturge a chance to respond, the young manager followed after her.

Nastasia moves to J9!

Spirit's Resolution: The Invasion of Mana - Page 8 Empty Re: Spirit's Resolution: The Invasion of Mana

Post by Zerifachias Sat Jul 18, 2015 5:36 pm

Well that was quick. Netta watched the first enemy fall in a burst of fire and magic like it was made of paper. If the mage was so willing to put herself up front where all the aggravated monsters were, Netta certainly wasn't going to stop her. She didn't like Felicia anyway. She smelt almost as bad as Wolfgang did, and that was quite the accomplishment considering. Netta wrinkled her nose and skipped forward towards the only nearby tree and eyed the bark carefully. She wanted to go up the tree so she could rain down arrows at a safe distance. Her current bow was very strong, but also very small, limiting her range unless she was in a very high place.

So, she began to climb.

Netta moves to J-7

"I find myself hard-pressed to stand here and idle while the enemy comes to me.  Are you ready?"  Claire threw her goblet into the air and her body became suddenly enraptured in blazing aquatic blue Spirit energy, the blistering force ebbing and flowing like the waves of the ocean.  Claire's form effectively disappeared, but the goblet remained hovering in the air, enlarging even until it floated in the air as a giant memorial for Claire's corporeal form.  Clouds condensed in the air near it and from out of them burst the visage of a beautiful woman with long flowing dark blue hair.  Two graceful and disembodied hands clasped at the goblet as the woman gazed into the liquid within despite her eyes being closed.  She smiled and chuckled--it was a heavenly chuckle that roused the soul.

The entirety of the goblet hovered over Vaughn and the entity clasping it followed of course.  The magnificent being pointed a finger at the weak shambler in her line of sight, and from out of her massive goblet emerged a massive stream of water that blasted the poor thing without mercy.

Vaughn moves to J3.

So Claire had broken out the big guns?  If only he were able to do the same.  Unfortunately, having just called upon Vizorus not too long ago, he needed to store more energy to sacrifice in order to manifest the Psyche once more.  He knew his emotions would not be enough for an emergency manifest either.  It didn't matter, however, for he was perfectly equipped to deal with these things in his normal state.  Dashing across the ground towards the flying shambler that had assaulted Netta during her climb, he leaped into the air and slashed at it twice afterwards landing perfectly on the ground.

Felicia dashed forward towards the menacing shambler with the hammer.  That was the one she wanted.  That was the one that prove to be a challenge, and she was sure that she could set fire to it and that would be the end of this struggle.  Completely unafraid, she held her ground, and out of the corner of her eye, she caught sight of someone following her--the sorceress who also hailed from Alidaire.  "It seems that you're interested in my magicks?" the woman quipped, though she certainly smiled.  If there was something enjoyed, it was sharing magical theory with other magicians.  She knew that her own craft was very different from what other mages employed in their arsenal.  Whereas most mages stood in the backlines, Felicia threw herself to the front.  That way, she could not be devastated by a melee assault.  Instead, she would adequately fight back with no fear.

Felicia waits.

No response came to the door when Wolfgang rapped upon it.  Just as he tried to open the door, however, he stopped, sensing that there was someone nearby.  Turning around, he noticed two figures standing in the street, both donning black cloaks that slightly blew about in the night breeze.  They had hoods over their heads as to have their visages hidden, and both wielded silver blades that emanated with an eerie aura.  They said nothing, but they brandished their blades as if intending to fight.  Wolfgang would have to defend himself from these strange intruders.

Spirit's Resolution: The Invasion of Mana - Page 8 Empty Re: Spirit's Resolution: The Invasion of Mana

Nastasia moves to H9!

Nastasia almost frowned as the woman noticed her following after her. She stopped herself, however, choosing to just nod. It was a very stiff action. "Something like that," the sorceress responded, flexing her fingers just a little bit. She didn't know how to phrase her intentions nicely. Yes, there was something to be gleaned from observing the woman, but that didn't necessarily mean it was something she necessarily ought to take up herself. The woman was very blunt and brutish with the way she combatted her foes. It didn't seem like a fighting style Nastasia would ever be comfortable trying. And yet here she was, following the woman to learn something. Perhaps some good would come of this––until she decided otherwise, Nastasia would remain on her heels.

Spirit's Resolution: The Invasion of Mana - Page 8 Empty Re: Spirit's Resolution: The Invasion of Mana

"Whoop!" Netta yelped a little when something hard hit her side. She quickly regained her balance and her handhold. The attack caught her off guard a little and forced one of her hands to drop. She was strong and light though, so it was an easy task to stay on the tree and continue climbing. She didn't much care for the damage she sustained because of a slight miscalculation. Soon enough she was on the tops of the trees and in the branches, pulling out her bow and finally getting ready to snipe some monsters from afar.

Particularly the squishy ones. She wondered how many arrows it would take to make those bow to her. Probably not very many, and they likely wouldn't be able to reach her from so far up. Not the closer-ranged ones anyway.

Wolfgang looked at the two onlookers and relented a small chuckle, reaching for a cigarette and lighting it in his mouth. They didn't need to say a word for Wolfgang to tell that they were hostile. "So, you boys lookin' to play, huh?" With a single whip, his weapon was fully extended and prepared to meet the face of some unfortunate assailants. "Why not? The night's still young." Wolfgang had doubts that these were ordinary street muggers out for money, otherwise they would have demanded it from the start; someone must have sent them here, which would also mean whoever did was quite aware of him. Now wasn't the time to ask questions though, that part could come later when he would beat it out of them.

Wolfgang starts in B-5.

Salari moves to J4.

Salari casts Riarudo on Drazer!  11 Water Dmg! (PSY)

SE: 31/53

The shambler caught in her mighty blast of water wilted instantly, and it was no surprise to the goddess.  Shifting over, she set her sights on the flying shambler in the distance, summoning her energy and unleashing another blast towards it, her power not waning in the slightest but her energy control being extremely efficient.

Vaughn moves to J2.

Vaughn shifted over as Salari did.  He was awed by her immense power, but he knew that Claire's Psyche was a legendary one.  Salari, the Goddess of Cups and muse for Claire in regards to her choice of weaponry.  He smiled and decided to stop drooling over Claire's might and focus on his own skills, leaping into the air with effortless grace and spinning around in an arc towards the flying shambler.  On his decline, his spinning rewarded him with the landing of two sharp slashes to the creature.  He landed on the ground and easily back-flipped to his original position, blades raised and ready for another assault if needed, but he was confident that the creature was at its end.

Vaughn uses Cyclic Slice on Haliter!  2 hits!  7 Dmg per hit! (ATK)

SE: 10/20

Felicia moves to E8.

Felicia chuckled and smiled.  She felt a strange warmth in her heart, but the attack from the hammer-wielding shambler completely shattered her out of it, along with being pelted by a large seed.  Irritating.  "It's time.  Eyes on me," she directed towards Nastasia with an excited grin.  Instead of fleeing the might of this shambler, Felicia snapped her fingers causing her strange glowing spheres of light to circle around in front of her.  She stepped forward with surprising speed and landed a powerful punch to the creatures gut, following with an uppercut before spinning in for a blazing backhand.

Felicia activates Levias Defense Formation! [All damage taken is halved]

Felicia attacks Galiver!  2 hits!  11 Dmg per hit! (INT)
---Felicia links Burn Blow!  12 Fire Dmg! (INT)

Player Phase 1!

Sasha appears at J5.

"I knew there was something wrong here," a familiar voice rang out through the silent street.  Standing in the distance on the other side of the street was none other than the radiant Sasha.  Upon her arm rested a large shield in the shape of a crescent moon, a beautiful yellow in color.  She gave a smile and a wave to Wolfgang across the way.  "You didn't tell me you were having a party tonight; I would have loved an invite, you know."  That said, she pointed to one of the men closest to her.  "Url Lulisen!"  Her shield detached from her arm and went rocketing across the way, striking the man with great force.  An audible "oof" resounded now, and her shield returned to her in a flash of light, reappearing on her arm where it was meant to be.

Sasha cast Url Lulisen on Kyle!  7 Dmg! (PSY)
