Spirit's Resolution: The Invasion of Mana

Nastasia starts at L9!

So this woman was from Elendia. The knowledge wanted to settle the rapid fire beating in her chest, but Nastasia was unsure of whether this was good or not. She had never been outside Dalmaschior. Aaron's troupe was set to leave shortly after Alexandra's wedding, but she had never journeyed beyond the borders of the continent––she didn't quite know how the nation faired either. If a tyrant ruled there then it was beyond her.

She almost tried to ask Felicia despite not trusting her when madness arose in the form of many shamblers and what appeared to be the voice of one of their rulers. Nastasia immediately stepped back to Claire's side, almost going to hold onto her arm, but decided to just hover. Everything would be okay, but getting in Claire's way was the quickest way to find herself on the wrong end of a spell.

"Good thing I came prepared for this eventuality," Claire stated, reaching into her backpack and producing a strange glowing red spherical object.  She moved her hand over the surface of the orb which radiated a strange heat.  The red began to separate into more red, oranges and yellows--almost like the sun itself.  The thaumaturge spared a glance at Felicia.  "We may be allies now, but we will have a word when we are free of this predicament," she stated sharply.  It wasn't a question.  There would be words.  Claire would guarantee it.  With that said, she tossed the orb into the sky.  The water in the marsh shallows began to bubble and release steam as a blast of heat surged through the area.  Light began to shine from it with unbearable intensity but Claire looked right into it, unblinking.  When the light cleared, there was no water and the shamblers seemed to be in a pretty sorry shape.  The orb returned to Claire's hand of its own accord--it was now blue in color.

Claire moves to K7.

Vaughn waits.

Rushing into the heat of things would be great and all but Vaughn knew that going out and making himself vulnerable would only welcome attack from every damn shambler in the immediate vicinity.  He would wait patiently, his knives at the ready.  True be it that he had taken them from work, but they were assigned to him and he was free to use them however he saw fit.  Slicing up the shamblers would be simply like cutting some vegetables, only somewhat more satisfying.  Shambler Salad, perhaps?

Felicia moves to H8.

"Yeah, yeah, we'll talk and all that," Felicia brushed Claire's fierce words off easily as she slid through the sands towards her new target.  Whatever artifact that Claire had used was great.  These things were healthy in the waters of the marsh, but with the waters removed, so too was their affinity with the element.  Felicia grinned as she pummeled the plant creature in front of her twice before back-handing it with a glove covered in flame.

Nastasia shielded her eyes as Claire tossed a rather potent magical sphere into the water which immediately caused all of the substance to evaporate. It also seemed to wipe the shamblers' affinity for the stuff which would no doubt make them easier to combat. Or at least easier for everyone else to combat. The sorceress mentally swore, realizing that she had failed to learn a fire-elemental spell for her repertoire––she knew that if she could figure out an incantation soon it would be a great boon in future battles. Filing that thought away for later, Nastasia watched warily as Felicia charged forward and absolutely destroyed the nearby shambler with a fiery blow.

Nastasia frowned. The girl was a much more powerful mage than herself. Not as adept as Claire in the sorceress' eyes, but still experienced regardless. As much as she hated to admit it, perhaps there was something to be learned here––from this girl she didn't trust. Nastasia looked over to Claire. "I-I'm gonna follow her," she whispered, "I promise I'll be careful." And without giving the thaumaturge a chance to respond, the young manager followed after her.

"I find myself hard-pressed to stand here and idle while the enemy comes to me.  Are you ready?"  Claire threw her goblet into the air and her body became suddenly enraptured in blazing aquatic blue Spirit energy, the blistering force ebbing and flowing like the waves of the ocean.  Claire's form effectively disappeared, but the goblet remained hovering in the air, enlarging even until it floated in the air as a giant memorial for Claire's corporeal form.  Clouds condensed in the air near it and from out of them burst the visage of a beautiful woman with long flowing dark blue hair.  Two graceful and disembodied hands clasped at the goblet as the woman gazed into the liquid within despite her eyes being closed.  She smiled and chuckled--it was a heavenly chuckle that roused the soul.

The entirety of the goblet hovered over Vaughn and the entity clasping it followed of course.  The magnificent being pointed a finger at the weak shambler in her line of sight, and from out of her massive goblet emerged a massive stream of water that blasted the poor thing without mercy.

So Claire had broken out the big guns?  If only he were able to do the same.  Unfortunately, having just called upon Vizorus not too long ago, he needed to store more energy to sacrifice in order to manifest the Psyche once more.  He knew his emotions would not be enough for an emergency manifest either.  It didn't matter, however, for he was perfectly equipped to deal with these things in his normal state.  Dashing across the ground towards the flying shambler that had assaulted Netta during her climb, he leaped into the air and slashed at it twice afterwards landing perfectly on the ground.

Felicia moves to F8.

Felicia dashed forward towards the menacing shambler with the hammer.  That was the one she wanted.  That was the one that prove to be a challenge, and she was sure that she could set fire to it and that would be the end of this struggle.  Completely unafraid, she held her ground, and out of the corner of her eye, she caught sight of someone following her--the sorceress who also hailed from Alidaire.  "It seems that you're interested in my magicks?" the woman quipped, though she certainly smiled.  If there was something enjoyed, it was sharing magical theory with other magicians.  She knew that her own craft was very different from what other mages employed in their arsenal.  Whereas most mages stood in the backlines, Felicia threw herself to the front.  That way, she could not be devastated by a melee assault.  Instead, she would adequately fight back with no fear.

No response came to the door when Wolfgang rapped upon it.  Just as he tried to open the door, however, he stopped, sensing that there was someone nearby.  Turning around, he noticed two figures standing in the street, both donning black cloaks that slightly blew about in the night breeze.  They had hoods over their heads as to have their visages hidden, and both wielded silver blades that emanated with an eerie aura.  They said nothing, but they brandished their blades as if intending to fight.  Wolfgang would have to defend himself from these strange intruders.

Nastasia almost frowned as the woman noticed her following after her. She stopped herself, however, choosing to just nod. It was a very stiff action. "Something like that," the sorceress responded, flexing her fingers just a little bit. She didn't know how to phrase her intentions nicely. Yes, there was something to be gleaned from observing the woman, but that didn't necessarily mean it was something she necessarily ought to take up herself. The woman was very blunt and brutish with the way she combatted her foes. It didn't seem like a fighting style Nastasia would ever be comfortable trying. And yet here she was, following the woman to learn something. Perhaps some good would come of this––until she decided otherwise, Nastasia would remain on her heels.

Wolfgang looked at the two onlookers and relented a small chuckle, reaching for a cigarette and lighting it in his mouth. They didn't need to say a word for Wolfgang to tell that they were hostile. "So, you boys lookin' to play, huh?" With a single whip, his weapon was fully extended and prepared to meet the face of some unfortunate assailants. "Why not? The night's still young." Wolfgang had doubts that these were ordinary street muggers out for money, otherwise they would have demanded it from the start; someone must have sent them here, which would also mean whoever did was quite aware of him. Now wasn't the time to ask questions though, that part could come later when he would beat it out of them.

The shambler caught in her mighty blast of water wilted instantly, and it was no surprise to the goddess.  Shifting over, she set her sights on the flying shambler in the distance, summoning her energy and unleashing another blast towards it, her power not waning in the slightest but her energy control being extremely efficient.

Vaughn moves to J2.

Vaughn shifted over as Salari did.  He was awed by her immense power, but he knew that Claire's Psyche was a legendary one.  Salari, the Goddess of Cups and muse for Claire in regards to her choice of weaponry.  He smiled and decided to stop drooling over Claire's might and focus on his own skills, leaping into the air with effortless grace and spinning around in an arc towards the flying shambler.  On his decline, his spinning rewarded him with the landing of two sharp slashes to the creature.  He landed on the ground and easily back-flipped to his original position, blades raised and ready for another assault if needed, but he was confident that the creature was at its end.

Felicia chuckled and smiled.  She felt a strange warmth in her heart, but the attack from the hammer-wielding shambler completely shattered her out of it, along with being pelted by a large seed.  Irritating.  "It's time.  Eyes on me," she directed towards Nastasia with an excited grin.  Instead of fleeing the might of this shambler, Felicia snapped her fingers causing her strange glowing spheres of light to circle around in front of her.  She stepped forward with surprising speed and landed a powerful punch to the creatures gut, following with an uppercut before spinning in for a blazing backhand.

"I knew there was something wrong here," a familiar voice rang out through the silent street.  Standing in the distance on the other side of the street was none other than the radiant Sasha.  Upon her arm rested a large shield in the shape of a crescent moon, a beautiful yellow in color.  She gave a smile and a wave to Wolfgang across the way.  "You didn't tell me you were having a party tonight; I would have loved an invite, you know."  That said, she pointed to one of the men closest to her.  "Url Lulisen!"  Her shield detached from her arm and went rocketing across the way, striking the man with great force.  An audible "oof" resounded now, and her shield returned to her in a flash of light, reappearing on her arm where it was meant to be.

Nastasia drew closer as the archmage unleashed a brutal hand-to-hand magickal assault on the massive shambler. It wasn't enough to fell the monstrosity, unfortunately, but the sorceress figured that much. Even if Felicia was a powerful magician, their mana-based spells weren't going to be as effective here in Lyreth––the woman might just meet her end without help. As much as Nastasia didn't trust Felicia, the woman didn't deserve to die; besides, Claire still needed to have a word with her. Nastasia wasn't going to allow for that to be an impossibility.

The sorceress quickly tapped her right heel into the dry earth beneath her feet, sending her mana into a tizzy as a malleable length of the earth shot upward. It narrowly dodged around Felicia's figure and struck at the massive shambler twice, but Nastasia's assault had not ended just yet. Ruby heels clicked together, causing her energy to form a ring around her before her hand shot forward. A beam of mana flew fast and true at the hulking shambler. Hopefully it hit. Regardless, Nastasia could feel the effects of the move boosting her power––it wouldn't last long, but it would be useful nonetheless.

Just when he thought his day couldn't get any stranger, Sasha had shown up despite saying she had to go home to feed her cat and sleep for work in the morning. Not only that, but she had arrived armed with an aerodynamic shield. Out of all the people he had met so far, Wolfgang had hoped at least Sasha would be one of the more "normal" ones, but what could be deemed normal in this dimension was up for debate. He got this far by simply going with the situation at hand, so there was no reason to stop now. Weapon in hand, Wolfgang dashed for the nearest adversary and and swung to immobilize.

Sasha blocked the swordman's attack with ease and sidled around him to take him unawares.  She lifted her shield above her head and swung it downwards to crash down on the man's skull.  She raised her shield back into a defensive position and glanced towards Wolfgang with a sly grin.  "Get yourself into these kinds of scenarios often, Wolfgang?"

Nastasia felt sick as her spells struck the massive shambler––it was almost like it had managed to sock her in the gut, but it hadn't touched her. It had instead focused its counterattack on Felicia. The woman seemed utterly unfazed but surely the shambler monstrosity's attack hurt to some extent! Doing her best to ignore the thought for now and focus on felling the great beast, Nastasia leapt up and kicked her right heel at the creature; her heel flew from her foot charged in a pulsing array of mana before flying back around and landing perfectly back on her foot. The sorceress shrugged. It wasn't very flashy or impressive, but it was something.

"Guess you could say that," Wolfgang responded, lifting his weapon to slap his foe in the face again. "But this kind of thing is sorta expected in my line of work... even when I'm not working. Speaking of which, what about you? I thought you were gonna turn in for the night, what brought you here?" There would come a moment where Wolfgang would question why he was having a casual conversation while in the heat of combat. It's almost as if neither Wolfgang nor Sasha actually acknowledged the presence of the assailants, and were deliberately showing blatant disrespect towards their enemies. He was sure these men were fearsome warriors with intimidating names to match... like "Magnus the Eviscerator", "Judas the Spinebuster", or "Claire". Surely they wouldn't have stupid names like "Kyle" or "Leopold" that in no way gave off the vibe of a true fighter.

Felicia spread her arms out and began drawing in what mana she could which didn't amount to much, but with her sheer magical prowess, she would be able to amplify it into a blast that would devastate the remainder of these shamblers.  They had wasted enough time dealing with this trash as it was.  If they were to escape this night with their lives, then they would have to be quick and efficient with dealing with the minor creatures, saving their energy for the sure to be hell of a struggle waiting for them in the Shambler's Garden.  Since she had the drive to end it now, then so would it be.  "O great source of magic, eradicate all life!" the sorceress chanted and clapped her hands together, the sound of which resounded as a huge bang, the mana she had gathered igniting and spreading like wildfire, lapping at the two remaining shamblers and completely enveloping them.  There would be no surviving this one.

Sasha moved closer to Wolfgang, trying to get closer to him.  She found herself in the most opportune spot she could get to, realizing that she could enrapture both of the silent fellows in her stronger spell.  "Here we go...Rom Lunalis!!" she cast her spell, releasing her shield to let it float around her, creating a specific orbit that grew faster and faster.  Anything close to her would have already been in trouble, but then the orbit expanded outward, slamming into both of the swordsmen and sending them sprawling across the pavement.  The shield reappeared on her arm in a flash of pale light and she was prepared to wreak more havoc, granted her spell had spent the rest of her Spirit.

"You'll be curious to know that you were followed all the way from Starlights," Sasha explained.  "They were stealthy; I almost didn't notice.  If it hadn't been for a single movement of the slightest shadow, I would have missed it completely.  They were tailing you from there, but who knows how long they've had their eye on you...whoever they are."  She flashed him a warm smile.  "I thought it would be nice to help you out; I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if I let you get hurt."

"You needn't worry about me, I've been in worse situations before," Wolfgang assured Sasha, readying himself to follow up on her attack. Before giving one of the assailants a chance to respond, Wolfgang darted up behind him and grabbed the man's wrist and began to wrap his arms into a tight grip around his neck."You see Sasha, I'm the kind of guy that if I don't know something, I have various methods of finding out the information I need to know. For instance, I don't know who these guys are or why they decided to follow me, but perhaps I can persuade them to talk," Wolfgang looked down at the man he had in his hold. "Ain't that right, pal?" Wolfgang made a fist and began scraping his knuckles into the victim's head rather vigorously.

The strange hooded figure tried to break free of Wolfgang's grasp, but it was to no avail.  He thrashed about, sending his hood flying back revealing his face--pale white skin with blue eyes and long silver hair...and a mouth that was sewn shut with thread.  No sound came in response to Wolfgang's question.  Only a look of agony was the result.

Sasha nearly gagged when the hood was swept off the man's head revealing that his mouth was sewn shut.  So they weren't the typical silent assassins; they literally couldn't talk.  It was so grotesque; who would do something like this to someone?  Were they forced?  Yes, it had to be.  Sasha shook her head vigorously and focused on the one who still had a hood on his head.  "I don't think you'll be getting any answers from these guys," she responded to Wolfgang before charging forward and crashing her shield into the hooded man's gut.

Sasha attacks Kyle!  6 Dmg! (PSY)

"That's too bad," Wolfgang responded, continuing to constrict his victim. "That kind of leaves us out of options of what to do with these guys once we're through beating them to a pulp." Wolfgang then turned to face the other assailant who was approaching him. "Tell ya what," he addressed him. "Since I feel so damn sorry for you guys, I'm going to give you guys a chance to back off and run away. Honestly, you two make for some shitty assassins, so I'm gonna let you have the opportunity of rethinking your professions. The both of you, just go, and I won't have to beat you two within an inch of your lives. I had better not see your sorry asses around me again, because I won't be so generous next time. If you'll take my offer, then I suggest you drop your weapon and start backing away. If not, I'm just gonna keep your friend here acquainted with my arm until his face turns purple. Got it? Well you'd better decide fast, I don't think your buddy here can take much more."

"So this is their power.  What great assets they would be."  The voice came from a dark cloud of energy brimming with blue lightning.  The negativity that filled the space emanated outwards and made the air distorted.  Steel blades ripped out of the two silent assassins from the inside of their bodies leaving them dead instantly.  Laughter came from within the cloud and it began to disperse almost as quickly as it had come, but before it vanished completely, it stopped and seemed to focus on Wolfgang.

"You would save their lives, but they prayed for death.  You would give them mercy, but I have shown them true mercy.  I give you credit for thinking of my subordinates, but you know not what goes through their minds."

With that, the cloud disappeared leaving behind only questions, save for the one thing they knew for certain--they were being watched.

The area in front of Claire's place was deathly silent once more. A breeze stirred in the wake of the ghastly cloud that had come to steal the lives of the assassins at what was supposed to be their own behest. How could one who could not speak wish for death? There had to be something far more gruesome behind this scene. Sasha lowered her guard and approached the fallen assassin she had been focusing her attacks on. Kneeling down, she reached towards him and pulled his hood down. Like his companion, his mouth was also sewn shut. Blood was leaking from the wounds they had received. What a terrible way to die. She hoped it was instant, regardless of the fact that they had been attacking her and Wolfgang. What were they to do now? They were left there with two dead bodies and nowhere to hide them really.

"Wolfgang, I want you to go inside and let me handle this," Sasha spoke up suddenly, standing up and backing away from the body she was just inspecting. "I'm going to call the cops and have them come out to mark this off as a crime scene. They're not going to believe I murdered these two guys with swords on my own." She swept her arm to the side causing her lunar shield to disappear in a flash of light.

"Might sound crazy but you're going to have to trust me on this one."

This whole dimension was a freak show. First he was stalked by hooded swordsmen with stitched mouths like it was some weird fetish of theirs, and then a cloud emerged and stabbed them both to death before talking to Wolfgang. If the whole purpose of this world was to have Wolfgang never know what was going on, then it was doing a fine job at it. It was giving him a headache, as not only did Sasha get herself into his mess, Claire was possibly going to be put under suspicion as well when the police would find the bodies near her home. It was out of his control and yet he Wolfgang couldn't help but feel somehow responsible for all the trouble that seemed to follow him. It seemed as though everyone that came from Paragon was cursed, as if the sin and vice had clung onto them and lingered on in their lives forever.

"Hey..." Wolfgang's tired voice whispered to Sasha. "I'm sorry you got dragged into all this... I don't really know what I did to get myself into this, but I know you wouldn't have to be here if it weren't for me. I don't want you to cover for me and taking on this burden on your own. If you're going to be putting your neck on the line then the least I can do is own up to the responsibility and stick by you. Whatever happens, as long as you're at risk, we'll have to face whatever comes our way together. They won't get to you without taking me down first. You can count on it."

Sasha walked over to Wolfgang and tossed her arms around him, hugging him tight. Listen to this man, the tinge of guilt evident in his voice. There was more to Wolfgang than met the eye, that much was for sure. What it was, Sasha couldn't put her finger on it. But he had a past that was filled with something she couldn't even describe. This was supposed to be a new start for him, and look at where he was now. Standing in the street with a girl he had just met and two mutilated corpses. There was no way in hell she was letting his head fall on the chopping block. He would have no part in this.

"Hey, you didn't do anything; I dragged myself into this," Sasha stated firmly, releasing Wolfgang from her embrace. "You didn't tell me to do anything; I made my choices for myself. You got it? And my choice now is to handle this on my own because I don't want YOU wrapped up in this," she explained, gesturing towards the recently deceased. They were really starting to make a mess now with all the blood.

"Go inside, Wolfgang. As much as I appreciate the sentiment, and as much as I'd love to have you stand beside me in this matter, I think this is the best option. Not to mention I have some connections in the police force," Sasha said, adding the last bit as a side note. Unknown to Wolfgang, Sasha had actually assisted with a couple of cases that the police couldn't handle. As such she received quite a bit of praise, and she could pull a few strings. Wolfgang would just have to trust her. It might not be easy for him, and he might feel guilty, but Sasha was adamant about this being the best course of action and she would stand firmly by it.
