Kingdom Hearts: Hearts of Unknown

100 years before our time, the Keyblade first came forth, to battle the darkness that was beginning to brew. This first Keyblade was given to one of the first wielders, the only one with a pure heart. But as the darkness grew, the lone keyblade wielder could not handle the fighting. With his old age, the Keyblade Wielder gave up his title, and descended into darkness as a result. This Keyblade split itself apart, and now, present day, it's remains lay. Each part has formed it's own keyblade, each with unique abilities. But alone they can not defeat the darkness, they must be wielded to destroy the darkness!

Rumors of the Shadow Train had been going around for quite awhile now. But now there were actual sightings of the train. The veichle being mostly black with hints of purple. The strangest thing was the four symbols that covered the cars. Each were more cryptic than the previous, a final symbol being a Key. If it hadn't been for that train, things would never have gotten out of hand.

Here they were. Rika and her two friends, Kyun and Plenair, being disciplined by the "Protection Squad". Which consisted of Paine, an older girl who was always wearing her uniform. Rydia, a younger girl who wore a green and purple version of the uniform. And then there was Hope, a middle aged boy who wore an orange version of it. If it hadn't been for that train, they never would have gotten into this mess.

"Look. We know. you. were sneaking aboard. That train is a nuisence and a danger. We must stop all who try to get aboard."

"We just wanted a look at it!"

"Doesn't matter, now give in easily or take a beating first."

"We'll do no such thing!"

"Fine then. Rydia. Hope. Fight!"

"Right"

"Right"

And so a fight was inevitable, the fight to stay innocent, and even get a look at the train was under way.

Rika ran forward, a wooden sword in hand. Paine copied her movement till there was little distance between them. Then fight began, Rika, being faster, lashed out at Paine, hitting her with the wooden blade. She then jumped back to her position and hoped her opponet would go down easily.

Rika took the blow the Protection Squad Leader dealt to her willingly. She smirked, raised her sword, then dropped it. She started to walk away, smirking the entire time. Paine smiled almost evilly before Rika came charging back. Rika grabbed the blade from the ground and slashed six times before making a spiral movement that slashed her foe three more times.

"Who's taking the beating now?"

Plenair didn't show any sign of pain, or any emotion for that matter, when the boomerang knocked her on the head. And she remained emotionless as she took a few steps forward, sidestepped, and fired her water pistol again at the boy.

The boy grimaced with the pain. Not to mention he couldn't see where he was going anymore, but at least he knew that Rydia was straight ahead of him. Holding his weapon of choice, he grinned (hopefully at Rydia) and slashed in a confident downwards cut.

Plenair was like always, emotionless and with no expression on her face as the Protection Squad took their beating. She walked toward the squad and jumped once, twice, and a third time. Each time she jumped, a rabbit like doll, much like the one she always carried with her, fell on each of her enemies and exploded on contact.

The Protection squad ran from the Shadow Train as its doors began to close. This drove the party into a panic, Rika springing forth. She got through just in time, only to look back. The sight was saddening, her friends being held back by the Protection Squad as the doors closed in front of her.

"No!"

She hit the closed doors as darkness covered her, her hands falling only to notice a boomerang and magic kit. It was their fault, the protection squad, who knew how her friends would be punished. She looked up, still staring at the darkness around her.

"At least you're on the train..."

Rika looked up, unsure of who or what was speaking to her. The train picked up, and a dim light set into the train. A man in a black cloak, and a woman in a white cloak stood before her. She tried to move away, but found that she was frozen.

"At least you're on the Train"

The man in the black spoke, his voice completely neutral in all sense. He came closer to Rika, and stood her up. She didn't dare try to pull away, she didn't feel the need to. But her face and tenseness told the two otherwise.

"Don't be afraid."

The woman spoke, forcing the man to let go of Rika. She then placed her hand on the young girl's shoulder. Her face still hidden, she stared into the girl's eyes.

"Only the Bravest can Transcend the light."

The man moved the woman away, forcing them to step back. Rika looked up at them both, her eyes pleading for what was reality. She didn't understand any of this.

"Show you can Transcend the light. Or you can delve into Darkness..."

Rika's eyes searched frantically for a response, but she was unable to. She felt the train slowly start to stop. The lights began to dim, she reached in the dark but ther were gone. The next light came from the doors opening and herself being thrown out. She clutched the weapons that belonged to Rydia and Hope, but not her sword.

Her eyes were shut tightly, she moved into a feetle position. When her eyes finally opened she found herself on a glass like platform with nothing else but staris leading to another area, a simple bag, and a chest. She slowly got to her feet, and grabbed the bag. Inside she found some strange vials, a tuft of feathers, and a few keys. Pulling a key out and setting the weapons inside, she moved.

She went over to the chest and stuck the key in the lock. When she opened up the chest she reached inside to find a strange key looking weapon. It disappeared, and reappeared in her hand without her need to pick it up. She gasped, but found it was appropriate for a weapon.

"Go on ahead."

"You will face powerful foes, but you will have the power to beat them."

Rika looked up and noticed that the two figures were standing before her. She tried to form words, and looked back to where the train had been, but it had disappeared. She looked back to the figures but they vanished with it.

"Where di-"

She looked back to see that they had vaished with the train. She nodded her head and stood heading for the stairs and up towards the next platform. When she reached it, the light intensified, and three shadow like creatures appeared.

"Transcend the Light. Or follow them into Darkness"

"Don't be afraid, You have the power."

Rika nodded, and cringed as the creatures struck her. They had snuck up on her, and while she may have been standing tall, she wasn't gonna last forever. She suddenly gained images in her head of different attacks. One stuck out to her, and it would be best for the situation.

As the shadows fell to her might, the Key Disappeared. She headed for the stairs, only to have a chest appear before her. She reached into her bag, found a key, shoved it in the lock and opened the chest. As she pulled the item out of the chest. She found new clothes, and they were rather stylish. She smiled, but before she could put them on, they disappeared and reappeared around her.

"Woah..."

As it disappeared though, she started moving, not even getting a chance to marvel over her new clothes.

Another chest appeared, the same one as before, opened and everything. She noticed there was still more in the chest. The very same blade she had just been holding. It appeared in her hands for a second before disappearing and reappearing with the other blade. In a blast of light, the two blades became one, the weapon looking more powerful than before. With a smile she moved up the stairs, only to notice a light.

Under the light lay a woman, obviously older than Rika herself, but not any older than twenty-five. She ran over to the girl only to be frozen in her place. The two figures from before appeared in front of her.

"Your will to Help others is Admirable."

"But your ability to save and defend others is questionable."

Rika tried to speak, but was shocked by the next sight. The stairway she had been standing on disappeared. The figures began to melt, their robes starting to become spikes. Rika stepped back over to the woman, still in shock at the sight. Suddenly from the pool of gray and white and black, a large creature sprang forth. It was taller than a skyscraper, with strange energy dancing around it. And a strange symbol, like one that was on the train where its heart should have been. Suddenly able to move, Rika kneeled to the Woman's side and shook her.

"Wake up! You have to wake up!"

Meanwhile the creature loomed; Rika, forced to move away from the woman's side, got to her feet, Keyblade appearing. Whether they were ready or not, a Fight was inevitable.

Rika looked up at the looming creature, a word suddenly coming to mind. Forgotten. This thing, whatever it was, it had a name. Shattered Remnants. Another word came to mind, this one actually a name that she had been wondering about. Her keyblade was held up to fight it, but she didn't move. A final word came to mind, her blade glimmered slightly as it was said silently. Keyblade.

Rika was astonished as the woman ruthlessly attacked and defeated their enemy. She doubted she could have done that, at least not with her strength. As the figure began to fall forward her eyes widened and she almost screamed. But then it fell back, a sigh of relief fell off of her lips. And just as she thought everything would be alright, things got worse.

As the creature fell, one of its gigantic arms grabbed the side of the pillar. Rika's eyes widened once more, realising what was going to happen. The Pillar shook, starting to topple over, the platform tilting towards herself. She stabbed her Keyblade into the ground, screaming as the pillar finally tilted until the floor was a wall.

The woman stumbled, and then fell, forced to grab onto Rika as the pillar slanted. The whole area started to shake angrily, and the darkness around them swallowed the pillar. It wasn't long until it reached where the Keyblade was implanted in the ground. Even through the light it emmitted, the darkness began to creep up the blade. It swallowed Rika's arm in seconds and moved over to her torso.

It soon had everything but her head covered, and Ritsuko was starting to be enveloped as well. As it engulfed Ritsuko, Rika looked up. The figures stood there, floating. Her eyes pleaded, wondering why in the world they would do this.

"Impressive"

"But can you truly Transcend the Light?"

Before she could speak, the woman pushed down on her darkness covered fingers, forcing her to let go of the blade. It disappeared, and she fell, still looking up at the figures. The darkness of their hoods looked down at them. Their eyes barely visible. Just before she thought she would die, the darkness covered her face. And suddenly... nothing...

And then... Everything. Rika awoke with a start, only to find her in a darkened city. A Moon hung over head, but it was strange. For next to her lay Ritsuko, but her side was sunshine and light, a sun hanging far above her head.

"Where... where are we?"

Ritsuko was quite pleased with herself as she watched the mighty creature fall back. However, her guard was put back up as she realized that maybe this thing wasn't done with them after all. She felt the platform tilt slightly, but she had nothing to grab onto. She rushed forward against the tilting, but lost her balance when the climb became to steep and she fell. The girl that had woken her up was clinging on to her weapon that she had stabbed into the platform, so before Ritsuko could fall into the darkness, she grabbed ahold of the girl's leg. She had been fine with waking up not knowing where she was, and she had been actually more than happy for the fight, but now that things were getting twisted....she just wished she was home. She looked up again to see darkness enveloping everything. It's over already? she thought in anguish as she was swallowed up.

Ritsuko opened her eyes slowly. The light of the sun blazed in her eyes and she had to shield them wearily with a hand. She managed to stand up and turn around to see the girl....but it was night over where she was standing. Somehow, the city was divided by night and day. It was the strangest thing she had ever seen. Then again, it had been a day full of strange things so far. "Ugh...how the hell did this happen?" she groaned, a tint of anger and annoyance in her voice.
