Before launching into an assault against the attackers outside the barrier, Melody closed her eyes and concentrated. She was becoming overwhelmed by the emotions of not only the enemies, but her own allies as well. She needed to clear her mind. Taking in some air, she gathered her thoughts and subdued the emotions of the others within her mind, exhaling as she finished the job. When she opened her eyes, she felt a lot more at peace than she had before, ready to unleash her psychic powers.

Melody waits.


Mia waits.

Mia's mind quickly scoured her repertoire of skills and realized she wasn't completely useless. A scowl formed on her face, but she shook it off. Best I save my mana in the case that it is needed for the staff or if those mermaids get too close, she thought calmly, keeping her blade in its sheathe for the time being. Patience was something she had plenty of when it came to anything besides Melody trying to get into her business. So she would wait.

Glowing a soft white, Amaya let her gaze turn skyward as she began to gather mana within her. A soft rumbling could be heard until even the ground beneath them began to shake. The temperature dropped and it was soon clear what was happening, if the slight signs of white snow were any indication.

It was a snow avalanche.

[Amaya] casts Avalanche on the Enemy Party. 31 Ice INT DMG. Chance of Freeze.

Rai kept her weapons where they were, seeing no need to draw them when she couldn't even reach her foes. She crossed her arms, smiling fondly as she watched Amaya start staring at Mia again once she finished covering the mermaids in snow. It was so nice to see the child find interest in something. Maybe the swordsman would even indulge the snow girl. Wishful thinking, of course, it all depended on Mia's mood.

~Player Phase II~

"Oh my," Hikari said, surprised by the magic Amaya deployed so expertly. It seemed to have been extremely effective in incapacitating the enemies. Now the party would be better able to defeat the enemies before them and move on towards the Temple of Water. This was good, they were doing well for themselves, even though only the magic half of the group could attack. Hikari raised her hands again, but this time she twisted her palm so that her pinky faced the ground. Hikari swept her hand down through the air and a large sword of light suddenly plummeted out of the sky and pierced the mermaid who had attacked Amaya.

"Way to go Amaya!" Sekai whistled proudly, her grin growing enormously. She kept her hands on Hikari's staff, supplying more mana for the barrier. The battle wasn't over just yet though, they needed to get rid of the mermaid that continued to attack, as well as the other three before they thawed out.

"All right, let's wrap this up then," Melody said cheerily, glad that her mind was at ease. She raised a hand into the air and brought it down, conjuring invisible arrows of psychic energy above them and causing them to rain down upon the enemies, most of which were frozen in place thanks to Amaya. She was definitely talented in the ways of ice magic. Even after Melody had ended her attack, a vortex of psychic energy lingered above, threatening to spawn more arrows the next chance it got.

Melody waits.


Mia waits.

They were making quick work of the hostiles, as Hikari called them. It was obvious that they weren't aware of the group's power. And to think only half of them were fighting. I suppose they had to defend what was theirs, despite us having no interest in whatever it is, she thought vacantly, tapping her foot against the sand slightly, just to keep the blood flowing. Perhaps they'll think more wisely next time they act so rash. Not that it's any concern to me.

[Amaya] waits.

Though she evaded the burn, there was nothing she could do against the other effect it caused. Steam emitted from her body where the water had hit and Amaya raised a hand. It almost seemed to be melting. Rai was immediately at the child's side, worry evident on her face. She was about to inquire for the child's well-being but Amaya slowly shook her head.

Eyes slitting as anger began to course through her body, Rai stood from her kneeling position and turned toward the mermaid that had dared harm her charge.

"Please allow me," the knight requested with a dangerous smile, stepping forward until she was right at the edge of the barrier.

[Rai] moves to [G-4].

"That will be one mistake you shall never repeat," she whispered as she pulled her weapons free from their sheaths. Slowly twirling both blades in her hands until they were spinning freely, Rai used that momentum to cut at the mermaid without stepping past the barrier. Amaya watched her and then tilted her head. She really didn't understand why Rai was so angry.

[Rai] uses Raptor Ripper on [Liquid]. Hard Hit activates. 29 ATK DMG. 4 hits.

~Player Phase III~

Hikari watched in awe as she saw Rai tear apart one of the mermaids that had gotten too close. But she didn't actually see it happen, she just sensed the life force that was once there suddenly disappear and become nothing. But now the path was finally clearing for them. Very soon they would be able to move on, just one more swift attack and they could venture forward. Hikari raised her hands and focused her energies, locating the two remaining hostiles with her mind's eye. With a burst of mana, a shockwave surged out of Hikari's head and expanded, fading through the barrier and beyond, towards where the enemies were frozen solid. That shockwave would torture them for awhile.

Hikari casts Mandrake Screech on the enemy party! 20 Int DMG! -16 MP.

Sekai continues to supply mana to Hikari's staff!

"Jeez Hikari," Sekai said, looking truly scared at the spell her younger sister just cast. "You really need to lay off on the hallucination magic. Even though I'm not the one being attacked, that stuff is scary to see in action." Sekai was referring to the looks of horror and pain the mermaids had as they could't even shut their ears from the overwhelming spell.

"Ah, much better," Rai hummed once the mermaid was effectively sliced to pieces. Seeing as how the rest of the mermaids were encased in ice and the battle would effectively be over in just a few more minutes, Rai smiled. This was simpler than it had appeared to be. They didn't even have to worry about stepping past the barrier.

[Rai] waits.

Still unable to pull forth her ice, Amaya found herself unable to do much. Her ribbons lifted up and flicked this way and that before falling limp. She saw no need to do anything. Instead, Amaya stared down at her burned hand. It was healing, though still steaming. At least it didn't look as though she was going to melt any time soon.

The enemies didn't seem to have too much of a chance now that half of them were gone. Melody raised an arm and channeled all of her feelings of happiness about the situation. They were doing great, working together and eliminating the threats with their tremendous power and battle experience. With much to draw on, Melody wasn't surprised when a beam of light fired out of her hand with great intensity that she had to hold strong to prevent herself from falling back. The ray shot forth through the darkness, blasting the frozen mermaid with the intense emotion. The ray eventually dissipated leaving little sparkles around Melody that seemed to boost her spirits greatly, a smile on her face.

Melody waits.


Mia waits.

This was becoming quite droll, but of course she remained vigilant in her own little way, waiting patiently for the last of the enemies to inevitably fall. She took the free moment to think of how much better she felt now that they were on the move again. It kept Melody busy so she couldn't accomplish what she wanted to accomplish. If the woman would just keep out of her business, she'd be much more tolerable. She huffed inaudibly at the thought. Who was she kidding? This woman was made to meddle. She wondered if she regretted ever running into her, let alone deciding to travel with her. Things were better when she hadn't realized what Melody was up to. She was thinking too much, so she banished the thoughts away with ease.

Hikari was quick to take her staff back from Sekai before it sapped all of her energies and left her convulsing on the ground. She herself immediately began to feel her mana drain into the staff, and erected a ward around her hand to slow down the process so she could fully command the staff again. "Sorry to leave you like that, Sekai," Hikari apologized, looking worried as Sekai took deep breaths to calm her nerves.

"No, it was necessary," Sekai rolled her shoulders, cracking her neck back and forth to stretch the muscle. "We should be going."

"Right, I don't care to have to fight off more of those creatures," Hikari nodded, beginning to set a pace for the water temple, already sensing the immense magical pressure that leaked from the tower's walls. It was almost as if the temple's light was active, but Hikari knew that was not the truth. Even in their dormant state, the temple's light can give off a lot of mana. The only reason the Temple of Light did not, was because the beacon at the top of the tower is much too high off the ground for it to affect surface dwellers in a dormant state.

"That was easier than I had expected," Rai admitted as she pat Amaya on the head for a job well done. Especially considering the restrictions they had upon them. It was a good thing they had such powerful long range attackers with them. "But, yes, it would be best if we moved on. Amaya?" She looked down only to find the child no longer by her side.

Instead, the ice user was standing close to Mia's side, but not too close, with her single eye boring into the girl. Rai blinked in slight amazement before leaving the girl alone. She could take care of herself just fine. Still, if the swordsman were to actually try something on the girl, Rai would not hesitate to tear her head off. But, hopefully, it would not come to that.

"Do you know how much further we must venture before we reach the Temple?" the knight inquired, casually walking over to Amaya's side. She leaned down slightly. "It's rude to stare." Amaya immediately looked away from Mia and slid her gaze to the sword wielder's left, making it seem like she was looking at her without really looking at her.

"Yes, nothing good could come of us staying here for long," Melody spoke up. It wasn't that the area made her nervous, but it was just rational not to want to be there. It was still dangerous, after all. She listened intently for an answer to Rai's question, for she was curious herself. It seemed like a decently-sized lake, but if they made haste without too many interruptions, then they would most likely get to the temple in good time. By this point, it all seemed to play down to luck. She looked down at Mia who seemed to be ignoring what was going on around her, including the fact that Amaya wouldn't stop staring at her. The woman closed her eyes and sensed Mia's emotions which she perceived to be mainly stoic with a slight sense of annoyance. Melody let out a sigh of relief. At least it wasn't anything major.

"If you have a problem, it is wiser to spill it than just going around staring at me like some imbecile," Mia suddenly shot towards the young girl, eliciting a slight gasp from Melody. She probably wasn't expecting Mia to say anything. Mia kept her pose calm and relaxed, and didn't turn to confront the girl or anything. Her words were more or less indifferent as well. In other words, they were non-threatening.

Desperately wanting to interject, Melody knew Mia would just grow angry if she said anything, and having the girl angry in this environment was likely to put all of them in danger, so she kept her mouth shut.

Instead of responding, Amaya continued to stare to the left of Mia. After a moment, she tilted her head, eye unblinkingly. She seemed to have no intention in replying to Mia's words but Rai knew better. The child was thinking about what to say. No doubt she had not planned anything and had just done what she wanted. As much as Rai wanted to help the child with her inquiries, now really wasn't the time.

"I apologize, she is thinking about what to say to you," Rai spoke, taking a small step forward. "Amaya never really plans things and she's still trying to figure out what to ask." The knight smiled fondly at the small child before returning her attention to Mia. "But now isn't the time, I believe. I will try to keep her from bothering you any further, if that is what you wish." For now, didn't need to be added. The implication was there.

At Rai's question, Hikari closed her eyes and tilted her chin up slightly, as if sniffing the air for a scent. What she was really doing was sensing the direction of the Water Temple. Right now, she could still feel its presence from a certain direction, but soon the temple would overwhelm her senses from all sides, and by that time the others would be close enough to see the temple, even through the dark water.

"I'd say a few hundred meters to catch sight of the temple, with a 50 meter margin of error," Hikari guessed, turning in the direction of the temple and pointing the way. "When we do finally catch sight of it, it won't take long to enter."

"Alright, let's go!" Sekai hurried, noticing tensions rise around Mia. She ushered Hikari forward, promising her that they were keeping up with the girl's pace. Hikari brushed Sekai's hands away, finally, and began leading the others through the treacherous waters again.

Like Hikari said, it took several hundred meters to catch the temple in their sights, but those of them who could see the true colors of the water would not be able to see the temple, but they could definitely feel its overwhelming presence.

Hikari knew it was time for friends of those mermaids from before to show up, so she wasn't surprised when she sensed the presence of a couple of them. But this time, something else from the deep was approaching, but it did not seem hostile. It was big, that was for certain, but neither she nor Sekai could make out what it was.

"My, my, they're much closer than before," Rai noted as she looked out beyond the barrier. There were mermaids again and they didn't look to happy about the group killing their sisters. Rai smiled pleasantly, acting as if she hadn't tore through one said mermaid in a vicious assault. She did note the crabs as well and how close they were against the barrier. It made things much easier for herself.

Amaya stood behind the knight, next to the staff. She sent a glance over to where Mia was before talking a moment to sense for the presences in the waters. There were eight of them, if she wasn't mistaken. Her ribbons twitched, coming to life around her. It was a lot more than last time. She unconsciously brought her hand to her chest. Last time, she had been splashed with burning water. As a being of ice, she couldn't handle boiling temperature. At least, not yet.

And so their lucky wasn't completely tops. Melody could sense the emotions of each being outside the barrier. The fact that they were obstructing their path should have made their intentions clear enough without even bothering to truly sense what they were feeling at the moment. Melody fiddled with her bracelet as she prepared for another battle. The overwhelming presence of the nearby temple was both somewhat frightening and yet hope-inspiring at the same time. She shook her head to clear her mind. Hopefully they'd make it out all right.


Mia starts at H9.

Mia audibly growled as they were attacked again. It was going to be another battle to be fought by the spellcasters while she was stuck on staff duty in the case that Sekai grew tired. Of course, she did possess a new skill she had been wanting to try out. Perhaps if things got too overwhelming, she would unleash it. For the moment, she stood idly near the staff with her hand nonchalantly on the hilt of her blade, ready to draw the weapon in a mere fraction of a second, probably less.

"Sekai, do you have Staff Duty?" Hikari asked her sister before she cast her magic. Sekai simply saluted her and placed her hands on the shaft. "Thanks," Hikari turned her attention to the presences outside the barrier. "I might be able to stop some of them, but I don't know how effective this will be," Hikari spoke nervously, raising her hand into the air and sending out a shockwave of mana that slipped past the barrier and rocketed out towards the mermaids and the crabs that waited for a chance to strike. This magic may or may not put them to sleep.

Sekai grinned uneasily when she grabbed hold of Hikari's staff. Being on staff duty meant being useful and vulnerable at the same time. Of course, with all of the others here, Sekai doubted that she would ever need to back away from the staff because of an attack. Then again, she would need to back off if she ran out of energy. That certainly wouldn't bode well for them. "I've got the first few rounds on this one," Sekai said, giving the others a thumbs-up. "You guys just worry about killing those beasts."

"Don't worry, Amaya will help as well," Rai reassured the young princess. Sure enough, the child was already calling upon the ice, snow and wind to come, the rumbling the only evidence of what was to happen. Tiny snowflakes slowly fell from above them before it turned into a heavy snowfall that fall as fast as a waterfall on their enemies.

Rai eyed the crab in front of her, pondering whether or not she should attack. She was a dealer of physical damage. Unfortunately, crabs had very hard shells. She quite doubted she could even make a dent of the creature. Rai continued to mentally debate on it before reaching a decision and removing her hands from her weapons. She would wait for now and see how the effects of their attacks went and then see what sort of action she should take from there.

Before beginning her own onslaught against the enemies, she closed her eyes as she had done last battle in order to get her own emotions in check and clear her thoughts. As an empath, not only could project her own emotions onto enemies, she could also succumb to the emotions of those around here. That's why it was so essential for her to take the critical time and steady her own mind so that she wouldn't be overwhelmed. She was sure she could manage without it, but this way would be much more effective, for her psychic assaults would become that much more precise--stronger.

Melody waits.


Mia waits.

Boring. A few moments into battle and she foresaw a dull fight, mainly because she couldn't easily partake in the action. Warping outside of the barrier to attack was out of the question; she wasn't stupid enough to risk such a chance. She had other attacks she could use, but should her mana be required for the staff...then again, Sekai said she had it under control. She raised an eyebrow unnoticeably at the thought, but remained perfectly still and under control. In due time..., she thought simply.

Instinctively, Hikari put her hands over her ears to drown out the terrible sound of screaming, but to no avail. She had to suffer with the others, the screams echoing terribly in her ears. "Owwww," Hikari groaned, her head aching when it was finally over. She looked around at the others. Amaya seemed to look the weakest out of all of them.

Hikari raised her hands towards the girl, focusing on the most pleasing images that she could possibly think of before casting her magic to heal the girl.

Sekai shivered, shaking her head violently. The screaming had really taken a toll on her, though she could handle it much better than Hikari. "Go get 'em guys," Sekai grinned, "This isn't enough to shake me, go kill some stuff."

Melody noticed that there was stuff to move in the area they had made it too, and figured it would be best to keep her mind active so she could continuously use the full extent of her powers. Raising a hand so some rocks nearby, she raised them up and shifted them to the spot in front of her. She then caught sight of a nearby crab. This time, Melody focused on her feelings of worry for the group, for the area they were in was unbelievably dangerous. They already had to go through great lengths to stay safe with the barrier, but what if something went wrong?

"N-NO!" Melody shouted suddenly. Crackling light formed over the crab before flashes of lightning itself struck down at the creature a multitude of times, leaving Melody to clutch her head in pain. When the assault finished, Melody took a deep breath and tried to return to her calm state. These powers are a little scary sometimes...

Melody uses Anxious Storm on Kingler! 6 hits! 23 Lightning Dmg per hit! (INT) [Chance of Paralysis (last hit)]

"If you so desire them to perish, let us fight to end it quickly then," Mia said at last, her katana already out and gleaming dangerously. She placed a single finger at the bottom of the blade and traced the blade along its entire length. It began to glimmer for a moment before wavering completely, almost as if the blade were in constant motion. "The end shall come momentarily." Of this, she was certain. Or at least close enough to it. It seemed she would be allowed to test out her newest technique after all, one developed just for situations like these where her usual fighting style was rendered too dangerous to execute.

As if oblivious to the ringing cries of the mermaids, Amaya continued her attack on the aquatic creatures. She saw no reason to stoop her assault when they were attacking right back. Sending another heavy barrage of snow on their enemies, she turned away from them to find interest in, apparently, something in the air.

Well, this was turning out easier than she had thought. At first, Rai had been somewhat worried about the overwhelming odds against them, what with half their members unable to attack. She felt quite proud of Amaya, seeing as how the child was practically paving their way through the waters. As long as the enemies weren't resistant against her magic, it made things much easier on them.

Hikari turned around and picked up her staff. There was no need for her magic at the moment. Their group was extremely powerful, even with only half of them able to fight seriously. Amaya was really trucking these creatures. But Hikari felt strange, all of a sudden. Why were such weak creatures fighting them? Why haven't any seriously powerful beasts arrived yet?

Regardless, their priority was to light the Temple's beacon. And they were close to reaching the temple now.


Sekai waits.

Sekai rolled her shoulders, glad to be free of Hikari's staff. They were almost done with the fight. A few more hits and those things would fall over at their might. Sekai grinned, this was too easy.

Keeping her anxious thoughts fresh in her mind, Melody focused on another one of the enemies, the energy crackling above it before the lightning struck it time and time again in tandem with the horrid images that filled Melody's mind such as the barrier breaking and their bodies becoming lost in the expanse of the special lake and the mermaids penetrating the barrier and ripping them apart limb from limb. She knew that was very unlikely, giving a Mia a little glance after the barrage of images faltered, her attack complete. But still, she couldn't help but feel a bit nervous, despite her using the skill to focus those feelings. It just brought to life things that could really happy. Melody was displeased with that sort of thinking and pondered ever using the skill again.

"Away." Without blinking, Mia tossed her sword high up, past the barrier and into the layers of water above, lucky that the thing was an inanimate object. A few moments passed before a torrent of swords fell down from the sky like a harsh rain, stabbing the enemies that were unlucky enough to remain. The rain seemed to go on for about as long as Mia had expected, remembering the skill she had used on the blade prior to the attack. Speaking of the sword, Mia sheathed it suddenly as if she had never thrown it up at all.
