Tales of Alidaire: The Tragedy

The Story Thus Far.....As Sad As It May Be.....

Alidaire. A magical world of monsters and mystery. It is a world similar to a puzzle--many pieces are missing; after all, only two continents are known. But the magic that flows freely throughout this world creates many odd occurances, and there are those out there who seek to use the world's mana to unleash havoc upon the people.

Dalmaschior. The northern continent. This country has always been in a state of chaos, for it has never had a set royal family to govern it as Elendia, the southern country, has. Thus, rulers have come and gone, being of good or evil.

Our story takes place in the Naran Era, an era of complete destruction and utter depression. After 14 years of ruling, King Edwin was assassinated in a parade by his most trusted advisor, Nara and her band of assassins. After the bloody event, Nara took the throne as the new queen of Dalmaschior. She erected a castle in Monarch Valley to hold prisoners and she even deigned to change the name of the capital city from Archaea to Narastola. For years, she reigned and during that time, many suffered. Everything went from complete prosperity to devastating poverty. There was no peace anymore......

Guilds continued to exist in order to create at least a little comfort for the frightened and suffering citizens. However, there are a couple of rumors floating around. One consists of a mystery rebel force situated somewhere in the southeast that is focused on taking down the queen. The other rumor centers on the location of Nara's lost twin sister. Some say she traveled to the northwest and has never been seen since.

It is the 12th year of Nara's reign. The people have been pushed to their ultimate limits and the threat of death to many is too large. Thus, a distinct squadron of warriors dispatched by the Rebellion Force, the mystery rebel group, are sent to assassinate the queen once and for all. But they didn't expect for the queen to have an assassin of her own, lying in wait....

The sun scorched the capital city of Narastola as high noon approached. The guards, famished from their long patrol, sought food and drink in the dining hall of the queen's castle. It was with this lowering of protection that the squad from the Rebellion Force marched boldy up to the front doors. The large, ornately carved wooden doors of the castle lied helpless in the intense brilliance of the sun making their menacing stature less effective. It was an audience day where citizens could speak to the queen and voice their issues. By now, the 12th year of Nara's reign, the citizens knew not to start trouble lest they wished to be dealt with by Nara herself. Now was the most opportune moment to seize the castle assassinate Queen Nara. However, just as they were about to open those very doors, they burst outward and a single boy stood before them.

"O-oh no," the boy said in a nearly inaudible voice. His eyes filled with fright at the sight of the party that had approached the castle. "T-the Queen was right! R-rebels.....why have you come?" he shouted at them, his voice filled with uneasiness. "I-it doesn't m-matter. M-my orders were t-to eliminate you! P-prepare!" On his back rested an immense greatsword, glowing with a bluish aura which matched the boy's own color scheme. He gripped the handle with one hand and tried to hold it up, but it ended up falling to the ground. The boy cringed and grasped his sword arm with his free hand, but he still seemed determined to fight.

Cage starts at I5!

Cage pulled the hood down from his head, looking at the poor soul who was sent to his death. He said nothing, but merely pulled out a deck of blackened cards. At the top was a picture with singed edges. He looked at it fondly before setting it in his cloak pocket. He took a breath closing his eyes for a mere few seconds before opening them. Sharper than before, he dropped the cards. Before they hit the ground however, they began to levitate, swaying ever so slightly.

Duke starts at I4

Duke gazed at the quivering child. He looked around thirteen or fourteen and definitely looked out of sorts. "Um, are we being underestimated here?" he asked with a sigh. "Yes, we are the rebels and yes our main force is smaller than the queen's and yes that is one ridiculously big sword, but to send on child to protect the gates? She most be even crazier than they say."

He tapped toes of his shoes against the ground, adjusting the fit. A low shuffling sounded as he slid the his foot along the floor, running the sole of his shoes over the ground. He smiled. "Lets get this over with."

Ryu starts at cell J-5

Ryu stood behind her 'companions', twirling her lance and throwing it up into the air as if it was a cheerleading baton. She caught it and threw it up again, doing so multiple times.

"Let's just get this over with. My time is much too short to be wasted on this insignificant fool." Ryu said, poiting her lance at the boy.

Guard of the Dragon protects Ryu from the element Dark

The boy shook his head. "C-cannot let them pass, c-cannot let them p-pass," he repeated to himself over and over again. The aura around his blade began to shimmer slightly and when he looked up at the party, his eyes were wide open in fright, but within those eyes rested power. Though he was by himself, he was not to be underestimated. The Queen typically had a reason for everything. This boy was special. "T-the Queen r-rescued me. I-I cannot f-fail her!"

"Evan, Ryu, I trust you can handle him. Duke, grab the bag on the left. I'll get the right."

Cage gave quick commands to his allies, he wasn't the leader of the group, but he figured they would take kindly to his advice. As he moved, his cards followed, as if they were strings attached to his body. A small click of his fingers, and four cards flew forward and struck the boy.

"Who died and made you king?!" Ryu snapped, she did not enjoy taking orders, but she certainly could take care of this timid boy.

Ryu ran forward and leapt up, falling moments later with her lance pointed downward and striking the boy before backflipping away.

"Did you really think that I would pass on what could possibly be gold?" Duke asked with a smile. "And Ryu, be nice." He grinned again and darted off, focused on the bag, but still keeping an eye on the others in case of anything. As weak as the boy looked, he could still prove to be dangerous.

As the enemies drew nearer and began their assault, Roger shouted out suddenly and rushed the nearest enemy. His greatsword flashed as he slashed the gambler over and over again, glyphs appearing after each attack resulting in the complete sealing of the gambler's powers.

Duke sighed. Cage got silenced. Their was some literary irony on that, especially since he was issuing orders a little while before. Oh well, such was life. He moved again, slipping out of the strange child's range.

Duke moves to B3. Duke Takes bag!

Duke lopped up to the bag and snatched it up. He didn't open it just yet, but he glanced back to call to his companions.
"Miss Eva! Problem Gambler! Ryu-chan! I got the goods!" he called cheerfully, using his nicknames for them. "You can cue the fanfare now!"

Ryu uses Impale. 6 ATK Dmg. High Critical hit rate

"Call me that again, I dare you!" Ryu snapped again, slightly irritated by the nickname.

She ran past Cage and struck Roger's gut with her lance, then backing away to prevent from being attacked.

Cage really didn't care what the kid did to him. So he merely walked up to the boy, put one hand on his shoulder, and punched him in the gut as hard as he could. He then swiftly moved away from the boy and for the bag. He stopped short though, only to flick his arm at duke. One card flew at his ally and flicked him in the head slightly.

Roger was aching severely by now, and he certainly didn't appreciate the treatment, though the Queen had told him to expect this. You must get angry with them and manifest that anger into strength when they mercilessly beat on you, Queen Nara had told him. He furrowed his brow and shouted before turning quickly and thrusting his giant blade right through Evan. He flipped over the man, taking out his sword in the process, and thrusted Evan in the back when he landed only to have two more blades, wielded by illusory Roger copies, thrusted into each of Evan's sides. Roger flipped back over Evan and dashed off to create distance between him and the majority of his enemies.

Cage moved once more, finally reaching the bag and able to pick it up. Grabbing the object, he opened it and put the contents inside. He was unable to do much else for right now, but hitting the boy with his cards was obviously gonna work a lot better than anything else.

"Oh, hello opportunity," Duke smiled as Roger retreated. He quickly followed him and halted beside the boy. He planted his left leg and spun, swinging his right leg behind him horizontally, bringing his heel to bear, striking hard at Roger's neck. As the boy stumbled, he slammed his right leg down and used the momentum and recoil energy to swing his left leg up and over vertically to slam that heel into his neck as well.

Seeing that the boy retreated a bit, Ryu decided to chase after him. There wasn't anything else she could do anyways, since if she transformed, she would cause massive collateral damage to the surroundings.

Roger crumpled to his knees and his greatsword clattered on the ground. He held himself tightly and rocked back and forth. "I-I can't fail, I-I can't f-fail," he repeated to himself desperately over and over again. Tears were running down his cheeks, and his heart was completely torn. He was so afraid.

Ryu walked up to the boy and pointed her lance in front of the boy's face, merely inches away from his face. She wanted to kill this boy already since he seemed to just be nothing more than someone to protect the queen.

"I suppose I will." Ryu said, "So, do you want him just to stop crying or for his heart, and the rest of his body, to stop althogether?"

"Let me try," Duke sighed, pushing the lance head out of the way. He crouched down beside the child and put a hand over his shoulders. He let the kid cry it outa bit . "Come on, calm down," he said smiling, "I won't let Ryu-chan or Miss Eva hurt you, or me either... hopefully".

After a few moments, he raised the kids head and gave him a finger flick to the forehead. He ruffled the kids hair a bit before sitting back and staring at the sky.

"You think you failed that bi... ah... the... the queen, right?" he tried to take as much sarcasm as possible out of the title. "If you think about it, she probably didn't expect you to survive. You were most likely just here to slow us down or, at best, fatally wound one of us." Duke rubbed the kids head. "By surviving, you've proved that your more than the... queen thinks you are. You're valuable and... and... ah... um... deserve a better live than what you have here."

He ruffled the kid's hair again, stood and smiled at the others. "There."
