Once again I felt the rage build up inside of me, the enemies were fueling me yet again. But I liked it this time. I knew that it gave me strength here. I briefly wrapped my head around the idea of choosing to be an Anger Channeler for my profession, but I let all thought drop dead as I was overtaken with the rage. In just a few seconds these enemies would be wishing they hadn't messed with us.

Re: Eternal Dream: Online

Post by Masquerade on Sun Dec 09, 2012 7:52 am

Masquerade moves to D5.

Apparently, I had been tasked with entertaining the new monsters while my companions dealt with the fodder which was fine with me. I could distract them just fine, but not knowing what they were capable of bothered me. What kind of pain would I be expected to endure this time? It was something I didn't particularly care to think about, so I paced out of the way and focused on the one that was now closest to me. A familiar light appeared around its brutalized head, flashed, and then somewhat lingered about. I started to think that this skill had some sort of side effect, but whatever it was happened to be unknown to me. There was still no user interface that I could scan to see what the hell I knew and what the hell my skills actually did. I would be forced to wing it until I found a way to log off which I highly doubted was possible. The others seemed to so not bothered by what was happening that it was kinda disturbing, and I doubted their intellect briefly before proceeding to just not give a fuck.

I suppose if they're having fun for now, I mused to myself, gripping the twin needles I wielded in combat even more tightly than I already was. At least they were understandable; they were channels for my magic. I could feel it and see it surging along the lengths. I wouldn't be surprised if I could blast these things with blistering light energy, but I figured spamming my presumably only skill would suffice.

Re: Eternal Dream: Online

Post by Vergil on Tue Dec 11, 2012 11:26 am

Alright, it was time to put my fifty-fifty plan into action. If this worked, I could have the two soldiers attacking each other and it would make this battle run a lot smoother, and if it doesn't work then I just may be boned entirely. As for the ghosts, I could worry about them later, but right now it seems that I am literally stuck between a rock and a-

No. I refuse to indulge in that beaten-to-death expression, no matter how convenient it is. I must utilize the will of every fiber in my body to resist the urge to finish that thought. It is stupid and I feel stupid for even thinking of such a thing, there is no way, no how, that I am going to sully myself with a crime against intellect itself. Oh what the hell, just this once since it's absolutely killing me inside. "Oh dear! It appears that I am now stuck between a rock and a hard place!" I yell out, hearing the echoes in the air mocking my guilty sin.

Great, now I have brought great shame upon myself and my family, and now I must commit Sudoku. While everyone is busy face-palming I must fill out each row and column in this mathematical puzzle with a different number or I may risk never redeeming myself again... and if I make the mistake of placing an identical number in the same box, then may God help us all. With this entire ordeal I somehow had managed to distract myself from the objective at hand, and I had better stop wasting time. Something was bothering me though; in this entire time I had not realized there had been background music playing. I guess that's the purpose of background music: to simply blend in and set ambiance. Don't get me wrong, I've played and thoroughly enjoyed Path of Radiance where I recognized this track from, but it just wasn't doing it for me, at least not for this situation. I reached into my pocket checking to see if everything I had with me before I entered this game was there, and sure enough I found my old mp3 player.

Placing in the earbuds, I scrolled through my playlist for a more suitable track. After all, if I'm going on a suicide mission, I may as well do it in style.
Spoiler:

One Who Gets In Our Way - ACE+ (Xenoblade Chronicles)
Much better, now I felt like I could even sacrifice myself for a plate of waffles.

Vergil moves to G-3.

"Hey you two," I addressed the two maddened soldiers. "I heard one of you said something bad about the other."

"Same thing as yesterday, eh?" I say with a sigh. It's not like we'll actually die here. We can always just respawn back at our old position, maybe lose a bit of experience, then come back here and try again. No matter how lifelike this game is, it is exactly that. A game. Nothing to get worried about. Of course, I was never a competitive person unless I was kill stealing someone. Now those times are truly great.

I can feel the smile itching to cross my face, but I force it down. I've got work to do anyway. Raising my trusty pen into the air, the ink spilled out to form words very quickly. The ink glowed a greenish color, "Hasten your battle prowess!" is what I wrote. Like last time, I could feel a sort of rush come over me, granting me what felt like agility. I could feel the ideas come into my head at a rapid pace as well.

This might actually be fun. I might have one of those things explode. Or at least put an explosion beneath it. Yes, that might be fun.

Zeri casts Spur of the Moment! Grants Haste for 3 turns.

Kuori waits

Right, since no one else made a move to attack the soldiers yet, I figured I shouldn't either. Beatrice seemed to agree with me on this, saying that I needed to make sure the male who stood in front of the two soldiers drew their attention. That way I could make my attacks without as much of a fear for retaliation. Though I did feel like I needed to do something so I wouldn't be completely useless. Perhaps I should learn to create a decoy of some sort, so I could take this time to set up and it would also serve to distract the enemies, two birds with one stone.

I looked up at Xeno; I couldn't quite remember whether or not she had looked me in the eyes, but she probably didn't. I could tell that she was just as horrified as I was, though she clearly had more effective ways of dealing with that pain than I did. I felt a drop of water, rain? It was probably my tear, which dripped right into my mouth, in all of its saltiness and- God, my mouth was open. Why was it open? Yeah, I closed it hurriedly immediately after that; I didn't want Xeno and Cerani thinking I was some sort of creep.

My hands ruffled against the lavender leaves, brushing up some gravel along with the wind. Gravel - that was my power. I could control the earth. I needed to embrace that control and buck-up, for fuck's sake. I needed to rub the blood and dirt off of my knees and stand up, and I needed to save that man.

So I tried to, as silently and as focused, yet as frantically as I could; I conjured an orb of earth, not one of those with those jagged, pointy edges, but rather one of those shiny, purple shields I made earlier. I think it was amethyst, or protect-a-guy, or whatever. Some gem. But whatever it was, it went right over that man's body.

I cringed.

Re: Eternal Dream: Online

Post by Cerani on Fri Dec 14, 2012 7:03 pm

For about three seconds, I panicked. The man trapped in vines and Xeno were both attacked, and I wasn't clear on who I should be retaliating against. Should I help my friend first or the innocent man I didn't know? But then I forced myself to clear, think logically for a moment. The botanical eyes were magic casters, specialized like I'd thought. Take them down first before they do any greater damage. I strode around the other guy, acting more confident than I felt and blocking him from the thing's line of sight, then proceeded to whack the shit out of it like I had in the first fight.

Cerani moves to G-5.

Cerani uses Hit and Slash [-10 MP] on Eyeris (4)! 10 Atk damage, 2 hits! High chance of critical on second hit!

My hands clenched into tight fists as the rage took full effect, veins becoming pronounced instantly. I took the hanging man's attack with little care, pulling myself to my feet and striding over to the one Allindur had attacked. There still wasn't a connect between what I was doing and how I was doing it, but the focus on the corpse established itself immediately. The creature shook violently for a few moments before falling from the air, defeated.

I smiled.

The Hanging Man came down on me, hugging me with crushing force. I could feel my bones cracking and twisting. Silver was quick to take down the beast, but as I tried getting up, I felt a deep sting on my leg and came down to the ground. Something either broke or dislodged there, I was sure. I would not be able to walk until the pain subdued, which meant I was not going to do anything for a while.

-Damn..I can't walk like this...

Allindur sits in silent pain. Ouch, my leg...

The small light that I created could not match the sheer powerful darkness that this deformed creature unleashed upon me. Whatever magical defenses I possessed meant nothing to this overwhelming beam of darkness. I could feel the shadowy energy scathing my very soul, and it caused me to cringe. Barely holding it together, I remained standing, though I'm pretty sure my legs were shaking pretty badly. At least I could walk. From what I could tell, Allindur's legs had been pretty injured; he wasn't going to be moving around anytime soon. As such, I considered myself lucky, but that wasn't even the point anymore. Pain still on my mind, I retaliated with my dear skill, light forming around the thing's crushed head and lingering. I still persisted in trying to find out what the hell I was doing.

You're killing. Leave it at that, I managed to convince myself in thought, and I did just as I had advised myself. Do damage. Defeat the enemy. Gain experience. How game-like despite this thing being far from a game. I wondered if my other friends had started playing the game, too. In my heart I hoped that they hadn't. We definitely bit off more than we could chew with this one.

Masquerade waits.

In my rage-fest, I hadn't noticed Allindur's hurt leg. For the few seconds I was without a direct enemy I immediately took note of it–mostly because I could feel the disappointment permeate the anger. When another one of the hanging freaks drifted over to him and merely lashed out at him, I thrust my left hand, which had a bracelet I didn't notice before around it, at it. "Back off." I growled, watching the thing spasm rather violently, but fail in actually falling to the ground defeated. It was hanging (HA!) on its last legs; another attack would do it in.

Silver attacks Hanging Man (2)! 3 Hits! 6 Int Damage per Hit! 20% Chance of Berserk per Hit!

I was just about to lay into it again when something hit me from behind. I whirled around, barely able to catch the traces of green flame as they faded away. It took a second for the actual pain to register, but when it did I did my best to fight it off mentally. Positive thinking seemed to have no effect. I still felt it, the burning surge on my body and the stinging reaction of my skin. I cried out, unable to hold it in, only to let the anger remerge. Somewhere, deep down inside past the building ire, I was thanking it.

If I didn't have it, I would have given up.

As I waited for my leg to get better, the Hanging Man left approached me and lashed at me with its morbid limbs. Meh, that barely hurt at all. Silver focused on the thing and ravaged it with his...actually I'm not even sure what he was doing. Bottom line is the thing wouldn't be able to take too much punishment. Maybe I could finish it.

I could not get up, but I didn't neet to, I just adjusted my grounding to give me a firmer stance and thursted my sword upwards, te blade semingly a little duskier than it was suposed to be. Maybe it was the orbs? The blade came into the thing's face. Would it collapse? I hoped so.

This was it. I finally knew what the move did. The veil of light lingering actually seemed to thicken over time--at least each time I successively used the skill. When the thing unleashed its last attack, it missed completely, and I hadn't even needed to make an effort to dodge. It had just been off entirely. It couldn't see. That was the answer. Or maybe it was so distracted that it couldn't focus on hitting its target? Something to that accord. But now I knew this for a fact. Damage and chances of Blind that increase over time, I thought, somewhat satisfied. The fact that I was finally able to understand this much greatly overwhelmed all the feelings of trepidation I held before. I mean, even if this was more than a game, as long as I knew what I was doing in battle, I could defend myself.

My being surged with power at that moment. It was the hope I felt for the future, and I knew it was giving me strength. Before I even knew what I was doing, I had dismissed my needles momentarily and held my hands out in front of me, drawing in light from wherever I could get it--even from the hearts and souls of my friends. When the sphere had become decently sized, I cried out and unleashed a magnificent ray of light that blistered through the air to strike the blinded hanging corpse. It was a short burst of a ray, but the damage was dealt. I blinked my eyes as my needles reformed and surged with their yellowish aura again, not sure of what I had just done--at least until seconds after. It was another skill. So I did know more than one skill! This gave me even more hope, such that I nearly thought I would burst from the sheer power that flowed through me. This was definitely a damaging skill, but if it did anything else, I couldn't tell.

Seems like more analysis is in order, I thought simply as I remained wary. I was still in very imminent danger. If the corpse got lucky and landed another shot, I would still feel that too realistic pain, and that was something I would rather avoid.

Ugh, what the hell hit me? First I was running off of my adrenaline and now I feel completely sluggish. It was as if I had been hit with a slowing field or something.

Oh wait. I was. Well, that shows just how well my brain was working. Then again, it seemed to slow just about everything down. Before I knew it, Cerani had attacked in the time it took me to blink. And I was supposed to be the speedy one here. Well, either way, rather than standing around, it would be better for me to move. The least I could do was get into range. I grimaced, or tried to. Everything I did was just so slow. One of the reasons I didn't bother spitting out a curse.

Did not want to hear what that sounded like.

[Xenosaga] moves [H-8].

It sucked to want to cut but not have the ability to. I almost wanted to cry. End sarcasm.

Durn moves to E4.

Durn attacks Eyeris (4)! 5 physical damage!

I remember: my eyes shut quicker than I could ever think they could, I groaned a little, and I think a little bit of drool drizzled out of my mouth as the crystalline extension attached to my arm rebounded ounces and ounces of poisonous energy into my body. It was nothing I hadn't expected in this hellish game, though; the recoil was brutal, and it nearly knocked me onto my feet.

I wouldn't let it stop me, though. I told myself, with every last drop of my certainty, that all of this pain wasn't real. I tried to shove the pain to the deepest reservoirs of my brain, hoping that I'd be able to suppress the misery for just a little while longer. "We need to finish them quickly! I don't think my shield can hold for much longer!" I managed to sputter a few words out of my mouth as I glanced at the shielded victim; his eyes were closed, and my heart sank.

Was I too late?

I looked back and forth between the two for some time before taking two steps towards the one Masq attacked. For whatever reason I felt a great inclination to attack that one. I shot a glance back to Allindur, but ultimately did not regret my decision.

I thrust my hand out in its direction and watched it begin to spasm as the other ones had. It only took a few moments before it was dropped and was surely defeated. Looking to Masq, I motioned to the other creature, feeling my rage ebb. "Think you can help Al out?"

I successfully manged not to jump back when I got hit, for the first time experiencing pain in this place. I did not however succeed in not saying anything about it. "Ow, fuck man!" I growled. It stung more than it actually hurt, I felt more surprise than pain. Durn's shout kinda snapped me out of it though, reminding me to move, attack. Something was up with Xeno, and I had a suspicion it had to do with the eye-flower-thing that I hadn't gone after. It was like watching something go in slow motion. I tilted my head for a moment, wondering how long that would last, but moved around the now unconscious guy to place myself between him and the two overgrown plants. I struck the last eye flower, feeling it was more dangerous.

"You okay, Xeno?" Hm, wait a sec. If she was moving slower, did that mean we were moving faster relatively? She might not be able to understand me . .

Cerani attacks Eyeris (5)! 8 Atk damage!

I looked to my side and saw something rather imposing. One of the weird soldier-things was coming after me. That was okay. It was usually smart to go after the guy hiding behind the rock, because it was likely that he couldn't take too many hits. I looked around my body for some sort of health bar. Didn't find any. Oh well, that just makes this even more realistic, I guess. It seems odd that there wasn't any health bar or mana bar or anything.

I never really felt like I ran out of mana though. It would certainly take awhile to get to that point, I'm sure. Considering how little I actually use.

Well, if he's coming for me, then I suppose it would be best to attack him first. I put my pen on the rock and wrote out the words "Punch the guy next to you, kind rock." Almost immediately after I punctuated my sentence, a large fist shot out of the rock's side and slammed into the beast next to me.

Zeri attacks Darys! 6 Int DMG!

These guys seemed to be weak to my kind of attack. The guy closest to me really seemed to have felt that hit. Well, if it worked the first time, then it should work a second time, right? Right. Let's do it again, but instead of writing on the rock, let's write on me. On my left arm, I write, "Prepare to fire the lasers." Instantly my arm turned into a Samus-style cannon. Without even questioning it, I point my newly-made cannon at the thing and shoot it with a focused, intensity beam that seemed to rip a hole in his gut.

Zeri attacks Darys!

Zeri's S-Ability: I Have An Idea! activates! 7 Int DMG!

I managed to slay the last Hanging Man, and a broad smile flashed on my face when the thing stopped moving. Well, it was all nearly done now. Then I felt a horrible pain on my shoulder. A black beam of energy had simply gone all the way through my body. Easy as that. That thing hurt. More than anything I had ever felt in my life. The pain supressed all my feeling, all my thought, all my existance.

I barely noticed a third orb coalescing near me. I only vaguely took notice of Silver's question. The whole world turned gray on me. I tried getting up. The pain in my leg meant nothing anymore. It was still weak, though, and collapsed when I tried to walk. I gazed at the ugly beast, my blood boiling.

-Oh, I can help out alright...

It hurt. It hurt a lot. IT WAS WONDERFUL!

From all that pain and pleasure, a voice whispered in my ear.

-You want it dead, don't you? You hate it, don't you? So give it your hatred. Throw up all your blackness on him.

And I did it. I intended on yelling "Die", but that sound never came out of my mouth. What did come out was a cloud of darkness. Something amorphous, in a delicate state between a gas and a liquid, but repulsive and pitch black. The three orbs were absorbed in my body, and I kept vomiting them, in the form of more of that cloud. The black filth flew to the creature and enveloped it. It instantly began devouring its putrid flesh, consuming its tissues and feeding me the energy derived from it. I smiled and cleaned my mouth, utterly amused.

-Pretty, isn't it?

Allindur casts Devouring Plague on Lynched(4)!

The Shadow Orbs empower the spell! It bypasses 21% of the Lynched's Spr!

The 3 Shadow Orbs are consumed by the cast.

Lynched(4) is being devoured by a Devouring Plague for 3 turns!

One of the strangers decided to be a very brave soul and charged into the group of enemies then taking quite the beating. This gave me an opportunity to make a move. I ordered Beatrice to fly out and strike at the soldier, its beak reaching through one of the small eyeholes on the soldier's helmet. Though it was attacking, I was fairly sure this wouldn't draw aggro to me. He would most likely be more focused on the man closer to him.

After I sent out Beatrice to attack I noticed out of the corner of my eye something strange. The man with the pen, the one who had completely wrecked the previous enemies. What was that thing on his arm? Was that actually cannon? Yep, it was a cannon. One that fired a energy beam. It kind of reminded me of someone I've created a while ago. She also had a cannon on her arm, and I planned to later give her the ability for the cannon to change into a lightsaber-esque weapon but the roleplay didn't get all that far. Beatrice pecked me on the top of my head before I could keep thinking about my characters; this wasn't time to go on a tangent, there was a battle going on.
