Tales of a Dreamer: The Beads of Light

2000 years before, darkness consumed the continent of Ermith, adults and children alike could not sleep. They were fraught with a fear so terrifying, it permeated even the smallest dream, turning it into a hellish nightmare. Fear of death and torture led the world of Ermith to become a place, feared by all, and with no escape.
Then, a sage appeared in the large continent. He arrived at the small city of Levethryin, and with a mysterious power, the city had been purged of darkness. Not one trace of the dark was left to hide from the light the sage brought. The sage, his job completed in the small city, continued onto the next city, and the next, and the next, destroying the dark veil that hung over the cities.
His name was Fraise.
When the darkness was no more, the sage suddenly disappeared, never to be seen again. However, to this day, the capital city of the continent Ermith remains Fraifrem, in honor of the sage that saved them from the darkness.
At the time, this was a natural disaster. It was caused by the fear of war that the people felt, which caused the darkness to enter into their homes, one by one, and cover them. The sage had left, hoping that the people had learnt their lesson on the powers of their own fears.
However, in this current age, the darkness has returned suddenly, covering up the capital city in mere hours, much faster than how it happened before. The people prayed for the sage to return, but he did not. The darkness began rapidly covering the continent once more. This, is where the story of 6 young warriors who dearly wish to rid the world of darkness. One of whom, has the same powers as the sage.

"Hikari, come on, we're almost there!" A girl close to the age of 19 stood on the top of a rather large hill, looking behind her at a shorter, younger girl. The first one had brown hair tied up in a long ponytail, the red band holding her hair together seemed to blaze with fire, as if reflecting the girl's spirit. She wore a tight-looking tank top as well as fighter shorts. Boots on her feet protected her from the mud, gloves on her hands protected her from blisters.
The second girl finally reached the top of the hill, leaning on her knees to catch her breath. Her long brown hair obscured her face, but it was soon brushed away as the girl straightened herself. She wore a blue midnight one-piece-dress. She also held a staff in her right hand, which she was currently using as a walking stick. A long group of beads hung around her neck as a necklace. These beads were very peculiar, purple in color, and each bead the size of a walnut, they gave the appearance of being more than just decoration. There were 21 beads exactly.
"Sorry Sekai," The girl, Hikari said, "I'm just not cut out for all of this travelling."
"Nonsense!" Sekai urged, "It's only a short distance away from the Capital City, we can make it, no problem!"
Hikari didn't reply, instead she sighed and looked up at the sky. Large thunderheads were beginning to gather, the sun was already being blocked out by them. There was a large storm coming their way, and when it struck, they'd best be near shelter. Hikari looked back at Sekai, only to find that she had already started down the mountain.
Exclaiming with surprise and annoyance, Hikari called after Sekai and chased after her as fast as she could without tripping. She was so absorbed into getting towards Sekai, she didn't notice passing a group of other travellers.

"Oh, Mia, dear. You should really lighten up a bit," Melody spoke gently to her much younger friend. "Sometimes it feels as though you're ignoring me." The woman wiped an imaginary tear from her cheek with the sleeve of her kimono.
"Did you see that?"
"Hm?" Melody stopped and looked in the direction Mia was now pointing. A girl was taking off down the mountain. "Well, now. I wonder what her story is. Doesn't look like she's in any trouble.....Mia?"
Mia had disappeared.
Down just a little ways, Mia emerged from seemingly nowhere, but if one looked carefully, one would have seen a slight tear in the fabric of reality allowing one to view a strange pinkish voidspace. Mia was now running purposely just a tiny bit slower than the girl. Mia raised her arm and tapped the girl on the shoulder.
"Melody wishes to know where you are off to in such a hurry," she stated simply, keeping up with the girl's pace with ease.
Melody watched Mia from her original spot and gave off a slight laugh. It was at times like these that she wondered how such a cute and humorous girl such as Mia could be so cold and distanced from people in terms of forming actual relationships.

"What's that?" a small girl that couldn't be any older than ten inquired, pointing at a small yellow flower blooming along the grass. Her other hand was held tightly in the hand of an older woman with hair a brighter shade than the flower. Surrounding the little girl were small clear, diamond shaped ice that floated near her waistline.
"I do believe that's a dandelion," the woman answered, looking down at the flower. The two stopped and the little girl bent down, bringing the woman with her. She silently poked it, emotionless eyes staring at the plant. The woman smiled, cool yellow eyes twinkling with amusement. "Would you like me to put it in your hair, Amaya?"
"No," was the immediate answer. "It'll just die." As soon as the child said this, the flower was covered in ice, frozen completely. Turning a single gray eye on the woman, Amaya stared dully. "I think your hair and eyes are prettier, Miss Rai." The woman laughed.
"If you say so, Amaya." Rai pulled the girl to her feet and the two continued to walk together. It wasn't long before they caught sight of living beings and Rai laughed. "Well, don't they look like they're having fun."
"That one ripped a hole," Amaya stated in her usual soft and quiet voice, pointing at the girl that seemed to have appeared out of nowhere. Rai blinked, unable to see anything but the color of their clothing and hair. "And there's another girl further back." Amaya paused, still pointing and still walking, forcing Rai to continue her walk as well. "Can I get pretty kimonos like they have on?"
"I'm sure we can get you something once we reach the capital," Rai answered, smiling. Using her single free hand, she curled it around her lips and shouted. "Is anything the matter over there?!"

Hikari soon skidded to a stop, turning around to look at the woman who addressed her. She frowned for a second, "If you knew what was coming, you would be in a hurry too." Hikari pointed up at the sky, where a large number of clouds had started to gather, creating more and more thunderheads. "This is going to be a serious storm, and I don't feel like getting caught in it."
"Hikari! Come on, hurry up!" Sekai shouted, waving her arms at Hikari some 50 feet away.
"I'm coming! Hold on!" Hikari shouted back. She turned her head back towards the other girl, "You might want to hurry too, it's going to get very dark soon, and believe me when I say that there will be some beasts out here you would rather not see."
A small raindrop fell down, hitting Hikari's nose, causing her to flinch and look up. "It's already starting, better hurry." She mumbled, running off towards Sekai.
"Hikari! Come on, hurry up!" Sekai shouted, waving her arms at Hikari some 50 feet away.

"Hm. It doesn't seem like they heard me," Rai commented, lowering her hand. She turned her head, looking down at the child beside her. "I wonder what they're talking about."
Amaya didn't answer. She had her attention else where. More specifically, the sky. A single gray eye stared at the darkening clouds that seemed to close in on them, covering the blue sky and the sun that resided within it. Following her gaze, Rai too looked up at the sky. A frown then made itself known on her face.
"It seems like it's about to rain," the woman noted, tightening the grip of the child's hand. "I don't believe letting you stay in the rain would be a good idea. Shall we run?"
"Rain?" Amaya repeated in a murmur, slowly turning her gaze onto the woman. She tilted her head. "What's rain?" As if to answer her question, a small droplet of water fell, landing and soaking into the ground just a little ways away from them. Despite how small it was, Amaya's single eye caught sight of it and she stared.
"Water that falls from the skies," Rai answered simply and suddenly picked her up. Amaya blinked, returning her attention to the older woman. Rai smiled. "Water freezes into ice. If we don't hurry, it's going to be hailing where we are." With that said, the blonde began to run and was quite fast, despite the load she was carrying.

Mia stopped and looked in the direction the girl had pointed. The sky was indeed darkening with a shroud of terrifying clouds. Seeing that it was already at least starting to rain, she sliced the air and disappeared only to reappear next to Melody.
"We cannot head in the direction in which we were previously travelling...unless we want to get soaked," the little girl informed and pointed in the opposite direction.
"So we should follow them?" Melody questioned, looking at what appeared to be several people running from the storm.
Mia nodded and took off suddenly.
"And what if I don't want to go? You're just going to leave me here?!" she called out to Mia before starting to run herself. Of course, there was no way she was going to keep up with Mia. That girl has too much energy, the woman thought miserably, running after the light pink kimono that seemed to be getting farther and farther ahead of her.

As the odd group continued to flee for the safety of the Capital City's walls, the last ray of sun was blotted out by the dark cloud above, plunging them into darkness as the rain began to fall heavier upon their shoulders. For awhile, the only sound to be heard was the pounding of feet on the wet ground and the roar of the clouds overhead.
A loud crash soon echoed throughout the lands, signalling the first strike of lightning to the ground, and with it, something arose from the ground ahead of them. A dark, shadowy figure that seemed to be covered in a black smoke arose from the shadows of the earth. However, it soon disappeared. Sekai and Hikari stopped, waiting for it to show it's face again. It did show it's face, right in front of Hikari.
Hikari let out a short scream, but it was enough to catch Sekai's attention.
"They're here!" Sekai shouted, launching herself at the shadow creature, landing a kick on it's head, sending it flying. The shadow hit the ground and disappeared in a puff of smoke. Soon afterwards, however, many more of the same shadow creatures rose up from the ground, all of them baring their claws at the group.

Melody starts at I5.
Melody looked at each shadow creature. Where in the world had they come from? It seemed as though two of the other girls knew what they were and were preparing for battle. "It's been a while since I've had to use this," she said lightheartedly and flicked the dirty bracelet on her left wrist.
Mia starts at H5.
Mia just shook her head at Melody. This was a serious issue here. If they could not succeed, then it would be the end for them all. She readied her blade and tensed her muscles, waiting for the right moment to lash out at the approaching creatures. "Be careful, Melody," she warned, and then frowned when she saw Melody's smile.
Melody looked at each shadow creature. Where in the world had they come from? It seemed as though two of the other girls knew what they were and were preparing for battle. "It's been a while since I've had to use this," she said lightheartedly and flicked the dirty bracelet on her left wrist.
Mia starts at H5.
Mia just shook her head at Melody. This was a serious issue here. If they could not succeed, then it would be the end for them all. She readied her blade and tensed her muscles, waiting for the right moment to lash out at the approaching creatures. "Be careful, Melody," she warned, and then frowned when she saw Melody's smile.

Seeing the creatures, Amaya tugged on Rai's sleeve, eye locked onto the dark critters. Rai skidded to a halt and gently placed the girl down, turning to face the things that were creeping upon them. Silently, she unclasped the mahne at her back, grabbing hold of it at the handle between the two blades.
"They seem like quite a dangerous lot," Rai commented, looking the creatures over. "And quite nimble as well. It would be horrid if they were to get into the city." Her eyes suddenly flickered over to the nearby before returning her gaze to the creatures. "Though, it seems it's not the city they're after."
"We should get rid of them," Amaya stated, standing behind the blonde. She peeked out at the critters, gray eye unreadable. "I'll support you." Rai turned her head sharply at the girl, surprise clear on her face. And then, she smiled.

Melody was happy that Mia was giving her advice, but she had battled before. She might be a little rusty now, but she was sure that she could hold her own. Her thoughts were focused on her bracelet. After she felt that her focus was dead on, she thrust her arm out causing an invisible force to surge through the air and grasp one of the shadow creatures like a hand to prevent it from going anywhere. Hopefully, it would be an easy target for the others.
Melody uses Innate Control to move Tree (F8) to E7!
While she guided the invisible hand to hold onto the shadow creature, she used her other hand to unroot a tree not too far away and move it to a place where it would impede enemy progress. It took quite a bit of focus, but her powers proved strong and she managed to drop the tree in the right spot.

Somewhat startled by the appearance of the creature next to her, Rai nearly took a step back. She hadn't expected that. Well, since it had gone through all the trouble of appearing next to her, Rai supposed she couldn't let its efforts go to waste. Then again, there was the one behind her. Seeing a girl nearby launch an attack on the little critter that would surely knock it backwards if it hit, Rai turned and lashed out on the other creature. Thankfully, her range was far enough for her to hit without having to move.
[Rai] attacks [Firn]. 6 ATK DMG.

That was two misses in a row. Her luck was quite low today. Or maybe it was just her aim. Rai decided not to dwell on it too much, the attacks the critters launched at her were quite weak after all. She barely even felt anything. Seeing as how she wasn't hitting anything, she decided to just take this time to power up.
[Rai] moves to [H-4].
Moving in case one of the other fighters on the field wanted at the creatures, Rai seemed to relax her grip. She closed her eyes, breathing in slowly and silently. She cleared her mind, allowing herself to concentrate only on the enemy. Once she reopened her eyes, they were sharp and focused.

"Mia, you're supposed to be zipping around destroying these things! Come on, let's get to it!" she shouted and thrust her fist into the air causing a surge of energy to strike a nearby shadow creature from below.

Mia's pupils dilated as she realized that one of the monsters was about to attack. With amazing speed, she dashed over to the creature and sliced it before returning to her original space, just in time to get hit by the attack.
Mia moves to F3.
Mia shot a glare at Melody before running over to the closest and most easily accessible shadow creature. Her strike was swift, and she only hoped that the attack would connect this time, for her plans with the rock seemed to fail miserably.

Hikari, perfectly asleep, stayed on her feet, holding her staff high in the air. A beam of mana suddenly shot out of her staff and pierced through her sleeping enemy's body, forcing them awake in a particularly unwelcome way.
Hikari uses Wakening Nightmare on Creeper! 6 Int DMG!
Sekai frowned, looking at the shadow creature in front of her. This was definitely going nowhere fast. Something Sekai disliked the most was a slow battle. So, she figured that she ought to liven up the pace. Sekai drew back her fist, and slammed it into the shadow creature in front of her. But that wasn't all, she soon followed up with another punch with her other arm, and continued to beat the shadow creature up with her fists.
Sekai uses First Encounter on Firn! 5 hits! 6 Atk DMG each hit!

So, she figured that she ought to liven up the pace. Sekai drew back her fist, and slammed it into the shadow creature in front of her. But that wasn't all, she soon followed up with another punch with her other arm, and continued to beat the shadow creature up with her fists.

Upon seeing the creature in front of her, Rai reacted. She lashed out at the critter, determined to knock it down. Her attack finished, Rai spun her mahne and paused, having no intention of moving.

They were in for a long battle. These creatures were a little too fast. She glanced up at the sky before looking back at Rai. After a moment of dead silence, she flicked her wrist and creature that had attacked her found itself, once again, dodging a black of ice.

Melody waits.

"Ow!" Hikari snapped out of her sleeping form, glaring down at the shadow creature that had decided to burst her eardrums apart. "That hurt you little creep!" Hikari shot another beam of mana at the creature from her wand/staff. The shadow was nearly dead now.

Sekai paused for a second, her face having the discreet appearance of actually enjoying the music the shadows were making. The attacks barely hurt at all, but it was all starting to pile up. She would have to take an extra precaution.

One down, More to go. Rai supposed she should be irritated by the fact that the creatures continued to dodge around her attacks. It was nice to know Amaya's attack had connected, however, and that was enough to make her smile at the girl. Amaya blinked, as if surprised, but no doubt she wasn't really. Looking away from the girl, Rai struck once more. It wasn't like she going to let all these misses get her down.
