A Grand Shift in Our Way of Life
Our Earth.
Formed over four billion years ago, it has been through many changes over the course of its life as a planet. From being nothing but uninhabitable rock, to filling with oceans and greenery, to being covered in ice, to becoming the diverse world that it is today. It had remained the same for the longest time, and there came a point where we thought that it was never going to change again. We kept living on and on, enjoying ourselves and our planet, but we never saw it coming. In one day, all that we knew...was erased. We called the event 'The Cataclysm' because of the devastating effects it had upon our world. The wilds grew wilder. The extreme environments of our world became even more so. Spread out. Expanded. Tangled in with each other creating realms of what can only be called pure fantasy. Roaming these areas were...beings that could only be called for what they were: monsters. Creatures the likes of which had never before been seen and only existed in nightmares. The normal animals of our past still existed, though they were the monsters' prey. And humans were not exempt.
At first, there were many who had no idea how to progress. The buildings where they lived and worked and shop were overrun by either the plantlife or the new plethora of monsters. How were they supposed to live now? Many committed suicide. They figured they were going to die anyway. Others went insane and wandered this new world, never to be seen again. Whether they thrived or were devoured will forever remain a mystery. As for the rest, they made the most of things. They learned how to defend themselves, and harvested what they could from the environment around them. A new market was created and also a new economy. As the decades passed by, people left the remnants of the old world behind. Old territories broke down and reformed. After all, our entire way of life had shifted, and so such the broken foundations of our past life would be buried beneath the soil.
Not everyone has let this go, however. Many toil day and night trying to figure out what the source of the Cataclysm was, for one had never been identified. Why did this sudden shift in the Earth's environment occur? There had to be some detail that the scientists were missing... Many blamed magic for the event, for scattered across the world, many wellsprings of what happened to be 'Mana' emerged, the term derived by the first person to access a wellspring. The person said he heard a voice in his mind telling him about this power--this entity. The appearance of Mana in our world allowed for the usage of magic, the learning of which was slow at first, but after the first century, commonfolk were able to use it as a means to aid in their survival. The man who discovered it became blessed by Mana, and became a political power in this new world, claiming the title as the Grand Herald. With his leadership and power of magic, a structured world government became erected--and one of peace at that which was a first in the history of mankind.
All seemed well as we adapted, but there is something more lurking beneath the surface. Isn't there always? In the Land of Rain and Mystery, a stranger appears in Lanaya Village speaking as if he knows something about the Cataclysm. Luring several others along for the right, they set off in search for the true cause which will take them through the ultimate extremes of this new world. They will be set upon by the harsh environment, discover dark plans and secrets, and they will come to realize that not everything is exactly how it seems...

All right. This is a modern fantasy statplay. I am accepting 3 others. All of your characters can hail from different lands. If you so desire, I shall give you a list. The Land of Rain and Mystery is the land that used to be the western United States. However, all of your characters will be present in Lanaya Village for some reason or another when our mysterious stranger comes to town. Just keep that in mind when you develop their background for in-game development. So yeah. Use the character form relative to my statplays. Be sure to include DD and Evasion. Experience levels will vary with this one, so don't expect quick leveling as in past role plays of mine. This will be a nice little test. So yeah. Express your interest here, and once I get 3 peoples I will accept profiles and start up the threads.
