The Guardian and the Sea
Aquarius Citadel, Relecrais Shores...
The mighty steel walls of the Aquarius Citadel towered over the nearby ocean like stalwart protectors. There was no penetrating these constructions of man, the dark blue metal resonating with the nearby blue of the sea. Patterns were carved into the walls, ancient symbols with meanings long forgotten by the populace, but the High Scholars of the Prophecy knew what they stood for. They were wards inscribed with magic to prevent monsters from detecting the settlement. That paired with the sheer strength of the constitution of the structure allowed the residents within to dwell peacefully without too much fear of danger. It was only when one left the walls of the Citadel did one truly have to fear for one's life. It was for that reason that only certain people were allowed out of the Citadel alone, and others were forced to go with an escort or several depending on the location to which they wished to travel. Strict curfews were also imposed, granted they were much stricter in the earlier days of the Citadel's creation. Breaking said curfews was easily met with jail time; the High Scholars of the Prophecy had no time to put the lives of the remaining people at risk. Luckily, there wasn't much opposition from the people. They were genuinely afraid of what had become of their world. To think that in an instance, everything would have been lost...
The air was warm and muggy, but the breeze was nice and cool. The sky was as overcast as it typically was, dark clouds obscuring remnants of a shattered sky--something that could only be described as a broken mirror with a multitude of colors reflected within. It was both beautiful and nightmarish, and it served as a constant reminder of the being who watched over the world and wrought destruction upon it: the Harbinger of Darkness. Most days people enjoyed the fact that the dark clouds covered up the sky. After all, the saying goes: "Out of sight, out of mind." Below the clouds and lapping at the shore, the ocean's waves seemed to be getting larger and more raucous. It genuinely looked like a storm was brewing for once. Thunder rolled across the horizon, but the man who stood upon the beautiful white sands of the shore paid the sound no heed. Today was a rather special day for him, a man who was none other than the Guardian of Prophecy. As the prophecy continued to be fulfilled, the day of the Harbinger's reappearance grew nearer and nearer. As such, the High Scholars of the Prophecy urged the Guardian to make some friends who would become great allies to him. The Guardian, Senril Talef, had no qualms with the urging of the Scholars and was quick to make at least one friend in particular--a friend that he had invited to the beach on this unpredictable day.
The duo didn't know each other that well, but already the woman had proven to be of wonderful company. She was a direct trainee of the Scholars, though he wasn't sure if she would seek a position amongst them after said training was complete or not. She was versed in the ways of magic and knew how to defend herself decently. It was because of this reason that he felt safe enough to take her away from the Citadel walls. Besides, the creatures in the area weren't exactly the strongest. Many times, Senril had braved the likes of those foes and survived, and this escapade into the wilder regions surrounding the Citadel would be no different. If anything wished to place harm upon Madeline, it would have to get through him first.
Waiting patiently on the shore, Senril began to wonder if he had come too early. He ran a hand through his naturally white hair which had been turned into a mess thanks to the winds. He had to admit that he was a bit excited. The beach was not the destination, after all--it was merely the rendezvous point. Senril had another area that he wished to show Madeline, one that practically no one got to experience for themselves due to the danger that the environment now imposed upon the people who ventured out into it. Azure eyes gazed out over the waters, white foam piling up upon the beach. A few crabs scuttled about hurriedly as if in a rush to get nowhere fast. He could feel the Spirit of the Sea within him, comforting his racing heart with gentle strokes, telling him that he had no need to be nervous. Never before had he went to such lengths to be social, for most of his time was devoted to training. Now that he had more time to spend in the world of conversating and "hanging out", it was like a whole new world, and he certainly didn't want to mess up.
"Take it easy, Guardian," the soothing voice of the Spirit whispered in Senril's mind sending a chill running up and down his spine while making his body feel like ice for but a mere moment.
"It's just that...well this is important to me, and the Scholars of course," Senril muttered to himself, rubbing his arms as if it were legitimately cold outside despite it being outlandishly warm. The Spirit said nothing more, keeping silent as Senril turned to face the path that led down from the Citadel. Any moment she would come walking down it to meet him...

Re: The Guardian and the Sea
Cloaked and robed figures steadily filled the halls of the bustling Citadel. Mana seemed to be thick in the air, as if the presence of so many who knew it's way made it accumulate in larger force. All was for the most part quiet, save for murmurings between individuals, and though the atmosphere was hot, a certain young scholar paraded through the crowds with an ever gleaming smile. The heat and humidity could not faze this woman - no, not when she had such an unbelievable date waiting for her!
Ah! Okay, so they weren't quite a date! But, the fact still remained that she was late, and Madeline wouldn't stand for keeping the Guardian waiting long.
A teal blur tore through the Citadel, exiting through the main doors and slowing to a more casual pace the moment the beach came into view. It was there that she was to meet up with Senril.
Not once had she ever dreamed she could be friends with the one from the prophecies. After all, she was just another scholar studying with all the rest. And yet there she was, rushing to a tryst with that very same Guardian. Flashing yet another smile at the thought, delicate fingers rose to lower the hood of her cloak, sea green locks sent flowing through the breezes like calm waves lapping onto the shore. The ever present, ominous clouds above had blocked the sun's rays, else the ocean's blue waters would be glimmering in such a beautiful way...
Ah, yes... Glimmering.
Just like Madeline's soul when she laid eyes on Senril standing in wait.
She froze for a moment, staring oh-so-rudely into his eyes for a good minute or so. The spark of hope that overcame her every time she saw him was such a magnificent feeling.
Eventually regaining her composure, she approached gleefully and gave a slight nod in greeting. "I'm so sorry I'm not on time!" she spoke, embarrassment showing in her expression. "I, um... I got caught up in my studies." A glance was thrown to the sea, and a slight giggle rose in her throat as she turned back to face the Guardian. "But, knowing you, I'll bet you came out early and have been waiting way longer than necessary." Madeline added with a playful wink.

Re: The Guardian and the Sea
Just as Senril had expected, a figure could be seen casually pacing down the path, and judging from the person's stature and attire, there was only one person that it could possibly be. The Guardian remained silently smiling as he was approached by his friend. She had lowered her hood; she had the most beautiful hair. It was of such a unique color and reminded him of the sea. She seemed to cheerful, and he didn't even realize that she had just been staring him right in the eyes until she actually said something, breaking him out of his own reverie.
"You know me too well, and to think that we just met not too long ago," Senril admitted with a hearty chuckle, nervously scratching at his head. "I made sure to get here much earlier, yes. The beach is always a wonderful place to collect one's thoughts," he explained with a hint of whimsy swirling about in the azure of his eyes. Truth be told, there were also a lot of memories that Senril enjoyed reminiscing and pondering, but he didn't mention that to Madeline. Things such as meeting and bonding with the Spirit of the Sea and outdoors training at the academy were probably things best kept to himself. He didn't wish to bore Madeline with such details.
"Your studies are important. Never fear making me wait a few minutes because you need to tend to them," Senril said with a soft smile, patting the woman on the head endearingly. She wasn't that much younger than himself, but he was still older. "But now's not the time to worry about that. I brought you out here to show you something. Have you ever heard of the Sanction Caverns? They're supposed to be sacred ground to the High Scholars. It's a cave system on the coast with a rather beautiful sight hidden somewhere within--one that I wanted to show you." He pointed off into the distance down the northern stretch of the beach where a cliff had begun to form and rock formations could be seen jutting haphazardly out of the rough waters. The place looked rather foreboding, especially in the gloomily dim light of this overcast day. However, upon further scrutiny, a large opening could be seen in one of the larger boulders found on the slowly depleting shore, no doubt the entrance to the cave system Senril mentioned.
"It'll probably be a bit dangerous. Are you game?" he invited her once more to make sure she was absolutely certain, though he presented his words in a slightly challenging manner, trying his best to hide his smirk.

Re: The Guardian and the Sea
Madeline blinked at Senril, having almost forgotten how recently the two of them had met. She was proud of how well she could understand peoples' habits through very little interaction, but at times, knowing so much about 'the little things' made her push along too quickly, assuming the other could do the same. Revealing her own quirks became difficult, as well, but perhaps she was as easily readable as she felt most people were. Even with her own skills, however, the Guardian remained an overall enigma to her.
He was like the ultimate challenge.
Madeline couldn't help but agree with Senril's mention of the beach being a good place to think as she was torn from her own thoughts by a gentle patting of her head. She looked up at the Guardian with cheeks puffed in a pout - partly because she disliked being treated like a kid, but mostly because she protested the idea of making him wait for any reason. "They're important, but not THAT important." she told him with a determined nod. Hands were thrown to her hips as she continued. "I can study any time. But, an invitation from the Guardian is a rare thing indeed." Smiling shyly, she added, "One that I hope can become exceedingly less rare through time."
But, Madeline had strayed from the point of this meeting, it seemed. Turning to follow the imaginary line flowing from Senril's finger with her eyes, she gave the tangled mass of rocks in the distance a long gaze before looking back at him. "Sanction Caverns..." she mused, then nodding, eyes sparkling with awe. "Ah! Yes! It is spoken of often among scholars." she proceeded to say. "I have never seen it, though I've always wanted to." Madeline wasn't particularly proud of her combat prowess. She knew enough to get by, but to purposefully thrust herself into danger would be a foolish act on her part, and everyone knew how dangerous those caverns were.
As her eyes drifted back to plaster her gaze upon the mouth of the cave, Senril's words served to flourish Madeline's visage with a smirk of her own. Whirling back to face him, she narrowed her eyes in a jokingly challenging manner. "Of course I'm game!" she told him with a slight laugh. "Do you even know how much practically every scholar wishes to see that place? Escorts were so overwhelmed with requests to be taken there, that asking became a chargable offense!"
...
Okay, so that was a lie. But, Senril no doubt got her point. Madeline was just a little excited.
Just a little.

Re: The Guardian and the Sea
Senril gave his companion an uneasy look as she indignantly put her hands on her hips, the expression on her face clearly displeased, but luckily not in too serious a manner. It seemed as though she didn't stay mad at him for long, even going as far as to drop the hint that she would love to meet up with him more often, and that could certainly be arranged. The clouds grew darker as Madeline spoke, and Senril took note of this while smiling and listening to her. Apparently the Sanction Caverns was more of a popular destination than he had at once thought. At the mention of escort service inquiries becoming prohibited, he couldn't help but laugh. She was obviously ready for the challenge, but as he vowed to himself before, no serious harm would fall upon his first friend.
"Sounds like you're ready to go then," Senril remarked with a broad smile. "Come on! If we stand around like this, we're likely to get drenched," he teased before making his way off towards the cavern entrance further north along the coast. All the while he could feel the winds getting stronger. If there was doubt in his mind before, there certainly wasn't any now. A storm was coming and its very nature unsettled Senril greatly. He didn't have to worry about the Citadel; the elements were held at bay just as easily as the monsters, but that ominous cloud of worry clung to his form relentlessly. He tried to shake it off, but it didn't leave his mind until he was safely standing in the cavern entrance, waiting for the girl who was accompanying him.
The entrance of the cavern was rather dark. It seemed to proceed forward into some sort of chamber, and within the chamber stood four stone pedestals each with a milky white dimly glowing jewel placed atop them. That was sure to be their key to lighting their way. "Try channeling your magic into the jewels," Senril advised when Madeline was close enough to hear him. The Guardian drew his blade, the sound of metal sliding against the inside of his sheath resounding against the rock of the cavern walls. "And do take care, Madeline." He peered into the darkness with those azure eyes of his that seemed to hold a faint glow all their own.
"I don't think we're alone."

Re: The Guardian and the Sea
"Hm?" Madeline sounded with a blank gaze which was quickly turned upward to be met with a significantly darker sky than when she'd arrived. Honestly, she hadn't noticed the worsening conditions! "Oh, of course!" A soft blush of embarrassment showed in her cheeks that she hoped Senril hadn't seen before starting toward the cave. She followed, hands on her face until she was sure the rosiness was gone. To be so oblivious! She must have been very caught up in the notion of their small adventure.
Green eyes were diverted to the ground as Madeline walked, watching the Guardian's shadow as it mirrored his movements in an abstract fashion. Granted the shadow was extremely faint - there was barely any sunlight at that point to intensify it. When it stopped moving, she paused in her tracks to finally look up. They had reached their destination, and Senril was gazing within. Walking up beside him, Madeline squinted to see as deep inside the darkened chamber as she could, and upon hearing the Guardian's instructions, gave a slow nod as she turned once more to lay her eyes upon the four misty orbs of white light that were her targets.
Madeline starts at [G-5]!

Senril moves to B4.
Madeline had remained silent which was perfect. There was definitely something hiding in the dimness of the cavern, far back in the distance, but Senril couldn't pinpoint exactly what it was. The only thing he knew is that there was more than one of whatever it was, and it was most likely a hostile entity. After all, the Sanction Caverns weren't deemed dangerous for no reason, but to think that the Control Chamber had become infested in any way unsettled Senril. Had the monster count in the cavern system amplified since the last time he had visited? That was definitely troubling. Keeping his sword at the ready, he moved forward with his sword at the ready, right into the midst of possible danger. He needed to attract the attention of whatever was hiding there in order to keep Madeline safe while she engaged the jewels. The jewels were actually a mana-based control program that were essentially light switches for the cavern. If the jewels were mana-depleted and dim, so was the cavern. If they were full of mana and shining bright, the rest of the cavern would be illuminated as well.
"I don't know what's there, but you'd best ready yourself," Senril taunted challengingly with not a single tremble of fear in his voice. He had tangoed with things far worse than whatever was hiding in the darkness. Only weak creatures used such underhanded tactics as ambushes when there was no light source, granted that wouldn't last for long. He would lure them out while they were pretty much forced to attack him, lest they lose their element of surprise. He didn't address Madeline in any way, for that would suggest that there was another target for the creatures to attack, and they would surely go after her if it meant avoiding an encounter with the powerful Guardian.

Re: The Guardian and the Sea
Blinking as she watched Senril's figure move further into the darkness, Madeline turned to face forward, nodding with a determined glare that could seemingly pierce through the shadows. 'It's all on me, now, then...' she told herself, granting one more glance toward the Guardian before starting forward.
Madeline moves to [F-7]!
Sticking close to the walls, the scholar wanted nothing more than to light the cavern and reveal those hiding in ambush so that both she AND Senril could get through relatively unscathed. With that in mind, her green eyes gazed up at the jewel nearest her. Taking in a deep breath to soothe her nerves, she raised her hands, ripples of mana energy visibly coursing from them.
Madeline uses Trigger Command: Infuse!
Mana begins flowing into the Pale Jewel and it slowly fills with light!

The sound of his voice bounced about the seemingly vacant chamber, and in response to his call, what he knew rested just within the darkness emerged, appearing suddenly in front of him. It was a creature made entirely of a water-like substance that seemed to hold the same consistency as jello. It bounced and dripped and bobbed in front of Senril, no expression upon its faceless head...except for a mouth that seemed to be open, yet no sound came out. The creature's torso, arms, and head were human-like, but it had no legs, instead the upper body stemmed out of a pool of the blue, sticky substance on the ground. Several strange items were caught in the pool, probably due to the creature rolling over them and picking them up against its will. A flash of light drew Senril's attention away from this motley collection of trash and toys and such. The source was, of course, the first of the jewels lighting up. Unfortunately, with the new light source came a new target for the creature: Madeline.
"Not if I have anything to say about it," Senril smirked and slashed at the creature unexpectedly with his blade, just after it had made to launch a punch at him. The punch had connected with his chest, but it glanced off his armor catching the thing off guard and allowing his counterattack to work out effortlessly. The blade of his sword shone bright with the Glimmer that usually rested deep within his soul. Gazing upon it usually inspired hope, but in enemies, it inspired fear, and with fear as a motivator, the foe would relentlessly assault the Guardian in hopes of evading death. Oh, but how Senril would guarantee that death would come. He held his blade out in front of him, ready to keep the living pool creature locked in combat so that Madeline could carry out her task without fearing for too much.

However, there was something else farther back in the darkness. "Madeline, be careful," he advised his companion, keeping his eyes on the foreboding darkness. The closer the woman got to it, the more uneasy he became, not for himself, but for her. She would have to approach the next jewel, and what was revealed by its light would not be a welcome sight.
Senril waits.

Re: The Guardian and the Sea
Madeline squinted as the burst of light served to banish the darkness from around it. Shading her eyes, she watched Senril engage with his gelatinous foe that had suddenly revealed itself. It didn't seem to be all too much of a threat, but whether it was or not, Madeline had nowhere to go but to the next jewel. Sighing, she gave a nod, grasping the tonfas at her side.... Just in case...
Madeline moves to [D-6]!
As she approached the softly glowing gem ahead, a growing feeling of danger rose in her chest. She shuttered suddenly, turning at the sound of the Guardian's voice. Be careful, he had said, and Madeline would have been MORE than happy to oblige. It was rather difficult, however, when it was impossible to see exactly what it was that she was being careful of.

Senril took note of Madeline's nod of understand, knowing that she must have felt ill at ease. Just as the Guardian was about to launch a second assault on the gelatinous creature before him, a second rushed from the shadows and blindsided him, leaving him open not only to that attack, but to a sticky punch from his previous assailant as well. Both of the blows glanced off his armor again; these things were not powerful in the slightest, but there was no doubt that they could give Madeline a run for her money if they so deigned to attack her, but with the second one foolishly attacking him, there was no need for worry anymore. A smirk flashed onto his face as his blade flashed with that glimmer of energy before, and with a powerful swing, he sliced the second gel monster with prime accuracy. Just as quickly had the glimmer come, so did it go, but now he had the attention of both gels, and it was going to stay that way for at least a few minutes.
"Maddy, now's your chance," Senril called out to his new friend, the shortened version of her name kind of just rolling out of his mouth. He wasn't sure how she'd respond to that, but he hoped she didn't mind. "They're both definitely loving on me right now; you're perfectly safe for the moment," he explained to her. His glimmer was holding the two gels captive quite easily which worked out perfectly for the duo aiming to penetrate further into the caverns.

Re: The Guardian and the Sea
Madeline moves to [D-7]!
The appearance of the second gel creature caught Madeline off guard and her movement was more of a clumsy leap from harm's way than a sneaky sidle into position. Regardless, she was where she meant to be. Nodding at Senril, she thought nothing of the nickname he'd used, and simply closed her eyes while trying to dispell her feelings of forboding so that she could focus. It didn't work too well; Madeline performed worse under pressure than she'd initially thought. What was hiding in that darkness that was unsettling the two of them so much? ...Did she really want to know?

The scholar then diverted her gaze, hoping that their misgiving were incorrect and that when she looked again at the newly lit section of the cavern, there would be nothing there.

The scholar then diverted her gaze, hoping that their misgiving were incorrect and that when she looked again at the newly lit section of the cavern, there would be nothing there.

The cavern wasn't all that welcoming before, but with these two horrid creatures wailing away at the intruder, it seemed to be even worse now. Though the blows didn't affect Senril much in the least bit, had it been any other civilian who made it out of the Citadel somehow, they'd probably be severely injured or worse--dead. Taking a deep breath at the thought, Senril jabbed his sword at the first gel's abdomen. He had to make sure that when his glimmer faded, the creatures would still be focusing their attention on him. Tempted to ask Madeline for help in felling them, he restrained. There wasn't a chance in hell of him asking her to put herself at risk of danger if it could be avoided. He might not have been the physically strongest around, but these things didn't exactly possess sturdy constitutions. They would be felled in due time just like the cavern would be well-lit in due time.
Senril waits.
Well, this outing is off to a great start, Senril thought in despair. He could sense Madeline's fear. Even though she had nothing to worry about, he could hear her heart beating faster within her chest, and not in a good way. Even trusting him wasn't enough to clear that primal fear from her body. It was instinct. There was a chance, no matter how small, that neither one of them would walk away from this trip alive. And Senril instantly pushed such thoughts from his mind. He wouldn't be having any of that. Not today.

Re: The Guardian and the Sea
You're perfectly safe for the moment.
Madeline moves to [E-5]!
The scholar reminded herself of the Guardian's words, steeling her courage and heading for the third jewel. Though she was forced to come within range of one of the monsters, she trusted that Senril would keep it at bay. She felt rather awful about leaving the liquid beasts to him as she paraded around through the darkness with nothing to do but light magical stones. Nevertheless, if they remained in the dark, they couldn't proceed, so her job was just as important as his. A long glance was given to the dimly lit depths, and Madeline loosed a sigh. If there WAS something there, she hoped that she could at least be of some help in dealing with it. Laying back in this fashion was starting to bother her.

Adrenaline still pumping strong, Senril barely felt anything coming from the assaults of the two gel creatures. It was almost pathetic, and Senril essentially ignored their existence to spite them and enrage them further by emphasizing the futility of their efforts to fell him which would inevitably result in naught but their own demises. Taking his blade, he turned on the other gel and slashed away at it as well, hoping to keep these two locked in battle long after the glimmer had released their captive souls. Madeline was trying her best to keep calm and get the cavern illuminated, and to see her hurt would tear quite a bit at the Guardian's heart. Everything seemed to be going according to plan, however. Senril considered briefly what may be waiting for them at the cavern's heart, but pushed those thoughts aside as well. The last thing he needed was unwelcome distractions.

Re: The Guardian and the Sea
Madeline frowned upon seeing Senril getting attacked by the two fluid fiends. Though they appeared weak, it just seemed immoral to allow him to take on two foes at once when she was there. But, she couldn't let herself think that way! If she didn't play her role, this will all have been pointless. After finally entering the Sanction Caverns, she wouldn't resign herself to leaving without seeing whatever it was within that was said to be so beautiful.

Senril attacks Morph! 5 Dmg! (ATK)
Senril raised his arm quickly as a gelatinous tentacle slammed down upon him. His bracers aided quite well in deflecting the blow, but another attack came from his side and landed a direct hit. Things were just now starting to get kind of rough; it had taken the gels long enough to reach such a point. Senril remained focused on the battle with the two, but he still couldn't help but smirk at the fact that they still had such a long, long way to go. As a matter of fact, he lowered his guard and let out a laugh. "I don't know what I was so worried about," the Guardian admitted to no one in particular. He reentered a battle stance, but it was much more loose and fluid, a certain calm swirling about in the azure pools of his eyes. With a rapid movement, Senril sliced horizontally at the nearest gel, a blow that would wind up putting the thing near death. It was as good as over for it now.
"It's all downhill from here, Maddy," Senril stated confidently, hoping that his tone would help ease any lingering worries that might be gnawing at her mind.

Senril waits.

Re: The Guardian and the Sea
Madeline moves to [D-2]!
Tucking herself into a nook in the wall in between two jewels, the scholar hoped to be safe from attacks. Blinking, she turned in time enough to witness as a gelatinous whip came down on Senril and a blue fist delivered a sucker punch. She narrowed her eyes in anger, pulling out one of her tonfas and wagging it at the Gel. But, she paused and then frowned, putting it back and turning toward the last of the gems. What she wanted to do was call the creature a coward. But, then - considering how she'd been this whole time - that'd make her a hypocrite.
Madeline uses Trigger Command: Infuse!
Suddenly steady hands deliver a flow of mana to the Pale Jewel!
MP: 16/20
The Guardian's words hadn't fallen on deaf ears... Madeline was just too busy praying he was right to give any sort of reply. His ease of mind was assuring, but Madeline knew that with the reputation these caverns had...
They were surely home to more dangerous monsters than those.

The Pale Jewel receives the gift of Mana and bestows Illumination!
With all the jewels lit, the room had sufficient glow, but it was amplified as smaller crystals embedded in the walls and ceiling suddenly lit up as well. Twin trails of these lights headed to the back of the cavern and down a previously darkened and unseen corridor which would most likely lead the duo deeper into the system...

"Excellent!" Senril exclaimed as not a trace of the darkness could be found. Madeline had successfully lit up the entire cavern system. The jewels were connected through mana-based bonds with the other crystals in the cave, and if all the jewels in the first chamber were illuminated, the rest would be turned on as well. Looking at the back of the cavern, a corridor could be seen which Senril knew would lead to the destination he had set for himself and Madeline. Now all they had to do was get past the gels and they would be on their way once more.
Senril attacks Gel! 5 Dmg! (ATK)
"Let's do a little cleanup, shall we, Maddy?" Senril invited his companion to join in on the demolition as he took his blade and swiped at the gel nearest him. It had landed a punch on him while the other flung droplets of water at him, but neither felt too particularly bad. Even with all the hits he had taken, he still felt raring to go. The glimmer in his eyes shone so much more brightly now.

Re: The Guardian and the Sea
As her eyes adjusted to the then fully lit cavern, Madeline showed a smile. Turning to face Senril, she gave a nod. "Gladly~" she chimed with a slight laugh. Now that they knew where to go next, taking care of these globs of goop could be done in a less stressed manner, knowing that anything that may have been waiting for them down that corridor was doing just that - waiting. They'd not have to deal with it until they were good and ready.

Madeline attacks Gel! 5 ATK. DMG.!
Twirling her tonfas in her hands, she gave a glance toward the Guardian, showing a smirk. Now, she was feeling confident. The possibility of an ambush was not totally ruled out, but being able to focus on the task at hand instead of fussing over an imaginary threat helped to calm her down quite a bit. She was once again just excited to see the view deeper within.

Together the duo had ended the gel in no time flat. It was definitely much better with both of them attacking in conjunction, but it was no longer necessary. With a smile of relief on his handsome face, Senril lunged for the final gel creature and plunged his blade deep through its body, watching as the thing deflated into a puddle before evaporating suddenly, just as the first had when it was vanquished.

Re: The Guardian and the Sea
Senril took a breather and sheathed his sword, after which he bent down to collect a weird sticky blue remnant of the gel in a small, cylindrical glass vial, tucking it away for later. The cavern was perfectly lit and they were able to move on without a hitch. The corridor would take them to a fork in the road, and puzzling over it now, Senril realized that he didn't remember which path to take. There was a nagging suspicion in his mind that both led to where he needed to go, but he couldn't remember for absolute sure. Smooth move, Sen, he thought ashamedly to himself, but tried not to let a trace of doubt show on his face. He moved tentatively to the corridor leading farther into the cavern and waved Maddy onwards.
"You're all right, right? Still excited to get a move on? It's best not to linger around here," the Guardian advised cheerfully and started making his way forward. The cavern corridor wasn't straight as it appeared to be, but wound downwards a while before finally straightening out and forking off in two directions: one path leading left and one path leading right. It was here that Senril had to make a quick decision, and he wound up choosing the right path with an amazing cloud of confidence hanging over him to reassure his companion that he knew exactly where he was going.
The right path, however, wound up being a deadly wrong turn. The duo wound up spiraling downwards again, but the cavern had opened up a bit and the corridor turned into a ledge bordered by a wall and a drop-off that went no telling how far down. "Madeline, be careful," Senril warned as he progressed cautiously. But no matter how careful he was as he slowly made his way along the ledge path, nothing could have prepared him or his companion for what happened next. The smell of death completely overwhelmed this part of the cavern and the lights seemed to dim a bit as if partially obscured by a black fog which gave the cavern a dark ambiance. Senril covered his mouth and nose with his hand quickly, coughing into it. "What on earth is that odor?!" he exclaimed, eyes frantically searching for some explanation.
"Above you."
Senril looked up in time to see something descending from the ceiling of this section of the cavern, crawling down the wall. Senril grabbed Madeline and tried to run, but a wall of bones plunged from the rock of the ledge forming a barricade. They were trapped. The Guardian drew his blade in a heartbeat. "We don't have a choice. What in blazes...?!" he cursed. Where had THIS thing come from? It was not a normal monster by any means. It seemed to be a skeletal humanoid, albeit a large one with an enormous ribcage that housed a giant sac of flesh with more bones poking out of it. The grey sac was covered in a clear fluid and seemed to throb and pulsate at odd rhythms like an unhealthy heart. Its hollow eye sockets scrutinized what would be its prey, and as it opened its mouth to let off a shiver-inspiring moan, the smell of immense death and decay intensified causing Senril to gag.
"I shouldn't even have to say it..." Senril murmured as he readied himself, evading the customary "be careful" line that would be completely implied by his companion hopefully.

Re: The Guardian and the Sea
Madeline wiped the dust and bits of Living Pool from her cloak and slid her tonfas back into the loops on either side of her belt. Smiling and chuckling, she stepped over to Senril and looked down the corridor. "Well, sure!" she replied in response to his question. "I mean... We've come this far. It'd be a waste to turn back, now." Shrugging, she followed him down the descending hall, the flickering lights along the walls both alieviating the ominous tone from the cavern, and intensifying it at the same time.
Coming to the fork in the corridor, Madeline felt inclined to make a choice of her own on which way to go, but the Guardian didn't seem to need the input. He exuded a certainty about the path he had taken, so the scholar simple continued to follow behind, giving a short glance down the left hall before facing forward, again. Cautiously, she stepped so as not to fall on the steep, spiralling decline. The corridor had seemingly gotten darker, but Madeline attributed that to her mind playing tricks on her.
Oh, how wrong she was.
A small yelp escaped her lungs as she exited the hall into a slightly wider area, nearly slipping into the depths of the fissure that accounted for a lot of the space in the room. She sighed in relief as she righted herself, but quickly grew wary once more at the sudden presence of a rancid stench permeating the area. Her face twisted as it assailed her nostrils and she stuck out her tongue, glancing at Senril. "Ugh, it's awful!" she complained just after he made his remark. But, looking to the roof of the hall, the scholar realized the odor was the least of their worries.
Madeline squeaked again as Senril pulled her to safety, and she stared with wide eyes at the skeletal beast as it descended from the wall. The pulsating mass within it caused her lip to raise in disgust and she frantically glanced to the Guardian, a fearful look in her eye. "Yeah, I know... 'Be careful'..." she sighed, shaking her head. "I'm not promising anything." Pulling her tonfas from their places at her sides, she got into a fighting position. With Senril at her side, she felt confident they could fell this creature.
But, at what cost?

"She's not the only one who needs to be careful," the Spirit's voice resounded through Senril's mind as he tried to calm his quaking nerves, the odor and dark ambiance seeming to make that more difficult, amplifying the terror coursing through his veins. "This beast is not indigenous." That wasn't news to Senril. He knew full and well that this thing didn't belong here in the caverns.
"I'm well aware," the Guardian muttered as he quickly slid into position between the bone creature and Madeline, barring its path despite it having immense reach over them. If it wanted to attack Madeline, it probably could no matter where he stood. It would take a bit more to draw attention to himself. The light in his eyes grew brighter, the power of the glimmer was channeled into his blade such that it began to glow as well. Raising it, he dealt an upward slash towards the beast, hoping to draw whatever agony it could inflict upon himself such that Madeline could evade harm once again.

Re: The Guardian and the Sea
Madeline was at a loss as to what to do. Senril had taken a defensive position in front of her, and she wasn't sure if she was supposed to stay behind him or what! Growling lowly to herself, she glanced up at the Guardian's silvery white hair. He was basically risking his life for her, but that was just what guardians did, right? It was honorable and all that, but Madeline wasn't willing to lie back and watch that disgusting beast have its way with him.
That was when her eyes strayed from the battle to settle on the bone walls blocking their path. Upon further scrutany, they didn't appear to be particularly fresh or healthy; brittle, malnourished bones that could be broken when succumbed to enough stress. Instead of fighting this creature face-to-face, perhaps a more strategical approach was in order. Even if she was wrong about the condition of the bones, Madeline had no doubt Senril could still break them if they were completely fine, anyway. Then, she could... Yes, that just might work!
"Se-" Her attempt at speaking was cut off by a series of coughs induced by the stench in the air. With a disgusted expression, she continued, "I... I think we could probably use those bones against it." Nodding, she pointed toward the barricade. "Even if it doesn't work out the way I have planned... Breaking them would give us a way out in case we're in over our heads with this thing." Fleeing was the last course of action Madeline would want to take. She had her pride, after all. And the thought of that skeletal demon dwelling in this holy place was enough to inspire her to kill it while she had the chance. But, she also didn't want to die any time soon.
Madeline waits.
