Senril raised his blade absently to block the skeletal fist that was sent hurtling towards him, and he was surprised to see how weak the bone was when pitted against the steel of his sword. That shook him out of his disturbed reverie from the Spirit's words. Madeline was also saying something to him, and he felt rude for being so out of it. She apparently had a plan that had to do with the bones that were caging them in. An escape route was always welcome--that was true. Behind them was a pretty large dropoff, and there was no telling how far down it went. Escaping that way was not an option.
Senril moves to B3.
"I trust you, Madeline, so consider it done," Senril said with a reassuring smile to the scholar before dashing off to the side where the large bones had plunged out of the ground. If these were as weak as the ones composing the actual creature, breaking them would be no problem. Raising his blade, he swung down upon the bone in front of him with intent to shatter it, but upon moving his blade away from the impact site, he took note that there was a rather large crack in the bone. So this one was a bit resilient. By the looks of it, however, one more powerful blow would be enough to shatter the thing completely. All it took was strength, concentration, and positioning. I wonder what she has in mind... Senril pondered as a last minute thought before preparing for another attack from the bone creature.

Re: The Guardian and the Sea
Madeline smiled and gave a soft nod. It was good to know that he trusted her judgment. It's hard to work with someone when they question your every action. Without having to waste time formulating explainations, she could focus on the task at hand. The skeletal beast seemed bound to the wall, but she didn't want to lure it to find out if it could indeed leave the surface. She decided it would be best just to stay close to Senril, and keep her mind on her plan.

Senril uses Trigger Command: Shatter Strike on Bone Barricade (B2)!
Senril ignored the giant claw that thrashed him; his armor combined with his natural endurance was more than enough to withstand the blow. He praised himself mentally for keeping his gear in such good shape before raising his sword once more to strike the bone. A large crack had appeared where he struck it last, and aiming for the same spot, he swung his weapon with as much might as he could muster. The steel of the blade clashed with the bone once more causing hundreds of tiny cracks to appear throughout its structure before bursting into pieces that were sent hurtling through the air. Senril gazed up at them and wondered if Madeline's true plan had something to do with them...but what on earth would it be?
Guess it's time to see that creative mind of hers in action, the guardian thought with a smirk on his face as he turned his attention to the scholar. What sort of magic had she learned at the Citadel and how was she going to use it? Eyes focused as could be, Senril was determined and anxious to find out.

Re: The Guardian and the Sea
Madeline watched as Senril pulled back his blade. In anticiption of a flurry of bone shrapnel shooting from the break in the wall, she turned to shield her face, peeking through parted fingers before finally dropping her hands. A smile graced her visage for the first time since the digusting fiend reared its ugly head, and she gave a nod to the Guardian, raising her hands and focusing mana energy into them. Allowing her eyes to close, magic could be seen resonating from her palms and impuing the scraps of bone with its power.
Madeline uses Trigger Command: Psionic Scatter on Lagu! 13 piercing Dmg! (INT)
Without warning, the Scholar whipped her hands toward the skeletal creature, the bones following her motion and pelting it with sharpened shards of its own barricade. She slowly opened her eyes and glanced from side to side, seemingly forgetting where she was. The sight of the beast wth small bits of bone protruding from its body reminded her if she had indeed forgotten, but she only showed a smug grin. "Aha! It worked!" she boasted, standing proudly. "Try to cage US in, will you? Well... take THAT!" Madeline panted slightly from her over-the-top celebration, but blinking at Senril, she then linked her hands behind her back, swaying timidly. "Oh, erm, I mean... Teamwork! Yay." Needless to say, she didn't get to battle often, so the fact the a plan of hers worked out well was super exciting to her. Eventually, she shook her head and added, "Should we just keep doing that?" as she pointed toward another segment of the barricade.
Madeline waits.

Senril was still captivated by the display that Madeline had put on. Sending the shattered bones flying towards the beast like shrapnel through mana manipulation? It was...brilliant, to say the least. There was no doubt in his mind that she was destined to be a scholar with such control over her magics. The beast didn't seem too fond of the attack, and opened its skeletal maw allowing a thick light gray mist to pour from it like a waterfall, quickly obscuring the floor which would definitely be dangerous--he made a quick mental note of where the drop-off was. One misstep could send either one of them plummeting to whatever lied below. The mist wasn't just mist, obviously, for Senril started to feel weakened. Turning to Madeline to see if she was all right, he noticed a thin veil of ice trying to form on her skin, but aside from a bit of frostiness, nothing came of it. Whatever this mist was, it was having adverse effects on them and it didn't seem as if the creature was going to stop filling the air with it.
That was when he heard the Spirit speaking in his mind. Use it. He knew exactly what she meant, and if that is what she believed to be the best course, then so be it. "No, that was magnificent, Madeline, but I think we've got it from here," he said, praising her strength and trying to inspire further confidence. She seemed to have gotten pretty riled up from her plan succeeding, so morale was definitely high. They were going to make it out of this all right; there was no doubt about it. Senril thrust his blade into the air, twin streams of water suddenly orbiting around him before surging along his body which began to glow with a beautiful baby blue light. His eyes shined brightly as he entered a new battle stance, sword at the ready.

Senril sidestepped right into the mist that the creature poured down upon them. It wreaked of death and decay causing Senril to gag, but a freshness filled him suddenly, blocking the horrid odor. Seizing the moment, Senril concentrated the glimmer towards his blade causing it to grow blindingly bright--far brighter than it normally did. He swung at the creature in a wide arc leaving a trail of light in its wake which shone through the mist like a radiant beacon. Bringing his sword back down and reentering his stance, Senril stood strong against the beast. With the Spirit boosting his power, he was now beyond a force to be reckoned with. This was what made him the Guardian.

Re: The Guardian and the Sea
Madeline nodded at Senril's words, but still felt extremely cold, however, from the monster's attempt at freezing her. Watching the Guardian bathe himself in a glowing blue light before attacking the creature, a growing feeling of admiration fluttered in her heart. He was very inspiring, to say the least. But, it was his role to protect the world. Not Madeline's. She would remain content staying in the sidelines as an assistant and friend. And as such, it would be her role to help him as much as she could. A small smile lit up her features at that thought, and she reached for her tonfas, gearing up to fight.
Madeline moves to [B-5]!
Madeline activates S-Ability: Faith! INT. power increased by x1.5 for 3 turns!
The scholar raised her weapons to the cave ceiling, converging their tips and closing her eyes as she spoke a short chant. A surge of power was felt reinforcing her magic, and she brought her tonfas to her sides, pointing them at the skeletal beast before her. She charged electrical power into her hands, then forcing it into her weapons. Magic was amazing; making a conductor out of what otherwise would not be. That thought nearly distracted her from completing her attack, but she shook her head of it before directing the electricity to gather in th ends of her tonfas. With a quick glance at Senril, she then thrusted her weapons forward, ejecting the accumulated power into the creature.
Madeline uses Taser Gun! 5 INT. damage with high chance of Paralysis, Immobilization, or Stop!
MP: 17/25

Senril attacks Lagu! 11 Dmg! CRITICAL!! (ATK)
Another glancing blow and a slight weak feeling and Senril knew this was going to be over soon. If this was all that the beast could crank out, he and Madeline would vastly overwhelm it. He could feel the Spirit tugging at his soul as if to say not to get too overconfident, but truly she must understand that victory practically already precariously sat within their brazen grasps. There was no hope for this otherworld nightmare. Senril raised his blade and slashed the beast in a single horizontal motion, a light blue hued light trailing after it this time, but only faintly, and it was quick to disappear. The Spirit's power was so great within him--it was as if his blood were the surging waters of a stormy sea.
"Cheers, Madeline, for I believe we'll be able to move on soon," he offered his lovely partner who seemed to be greatly holding her own in combat, even being so bold as to engage the creature at close range, granted it hadn't exactly given them much choice, attacking them on such a....not-so-spacious ledge. At first it had the upper hand, oh but how they had shown their true might! Senril braced himself for another attack which was sure to come thanks to the effect of his Glimmer. The only harm Madeline would sustain would be associated by this damn fog which seemed to be weakening them in various ways as it continued to pour from the creature's skeletal maw.

Re: The Guardian and the Sea
Madeline's eyelids drooped and she sighed, feeling the effects of the fog blurring her knowledge and hampering her magical ability. The color in her eyes seemingly faded for a split second, but she quickly shook it off and threw a glare in their opponent's direction. This nasty smog it was pouring over the area sure was troublesome. Luckily, Madeline didn't rely entirely on her magic.

Twirling her tonfas in her hands swiftly, she clenched the handles in her fists and dealt two quick strikes to the skeletal monster. She wasn't liking this situation, but it appeared obvious they were gaining the advantage. Smiling at Senril's words, she simply gave a nod. 'This is definitely going way better than I initially thought it would...' she mused with a soft chuckle.

"Finish it."
With a victorious shout, Senril raised his blade and brought it against the creature in the mightiest blow he could muster. The fog stopped pouring from its mouth instantly as it gurgled and screeched, causing the cavern to shake. The darkness seemed to amplify in the area, the bones forming the barricade quaking before completely shattering into thousands of fragments that skittered across the rocky path. The otherworldly creature began losing its grip threatening to fall and crush them and take them down into the abyss that loomed over the edge. Senril had to think quick and decided to make a preemptive move. "Madeline, hang on!" Senril shouted, coughing as he received a mouthful of the foul fog that still permeated the area. Dodging to the side, Senril scooped Madeline up easily in his arms--he was almost surprised at how light she was. Shaking his head, he backed towards the edge and fell back over the edge.
A freefall. Senril made sure he held Madeline tightly against his body as they both fell. The guardian made sure that he would impact the ground while Madeline made it through without harm. Up above he could hear the growling agony of the skeleton creature and it finally slipped off the wall, falling where they had been standing previously before tumbling over the edge like they did, only the body of the creature got hung up on some protruding rocks from the cliff face. At least that was one less thing they had to avoid.
"You reckless fool. What have you done?"
Senril didn't answer the anguished Spirit. He merely closed his eyes and lost himself in the fall, the wind, gravity....and Madeline.

Re: The Guardian and the Sea
The battle was over... Of that, Madeline was completely sure. But, now they had more worries. The chamber had begun to shake as the monster gave its dying breath and its weakening grip gave away. Staring up at the falling form, Madeline was frozen, but luckily for her, she was in the presence of the guardian. He did just what a guardian does best and whisked her out of harms way. Unfortunately, the only place to go was down...
Madeline let loose a small yelp, but rather than screaming during the whole fall, she simply enjoyed the feel of the wind on her face. What else could she do? All she could hope for was that at the bottom of this, there could be a body of water to break their fall. Otherwise... Senril was in for quite an impact, and she wouldn't be completely unscathed either. With a 'cushion' or not, falling from such a height to a stone bed would leave anyone dazed, at the very least.
But, the scholar didn't wish to entertain that option. The Guardian couldn't die. He was a man of prophecy. Though that fall was enough to kill anyone else, it certainly wouldn't kill him... she chanted in her mind. Clutching tightly to Senril, she too closed her eyes. Nothing to do now but wait.
Wait, and hope.

Re: The Guardian and the Sea
A thud.
There was a brief moment of sound that filled the pit, and then there was silence. The floor was alight with glyphs carved in it filling the pit with an eerie glow, though up above from where the couple fell there was naught but darkness. All around them rocky walls ascended upwards deep into that abyssal darkness. At first glance, it appeared as though there was no escape, granted only one of the two in the pit now were conscious. Senril was still breathing for sure, but his eyes were closed and there didn't appear to be any way to rouse him leaving Madeline alone.
Or so she thought.
"What did I do to earn such a reckless Guardian?"
The calm feminine voice echoed throughout the pit suddenly as water pooled underneath Senril's body, running along the ground and surging upwards, taking the form of what appeared to be a woman. The water glowed with a brilliant white light suddenly, and when it dispersed, a woman was indeed standing in its place. She had the palest skin as if it had never been exposed to the sun, yet her hair was lustrous and flowing, dark blue in hue. Her eyes seemed to shimmer, shifting between different shades of blue ranging from teal, verging on green, and a blue so dark that it was almost black. Her dress was elegant and appeared to be spun from silk, but upon touching it, one would realize that it was crafted from kelp. Whoever had made it obviously had experience in working with the sea plant. The dress was littered with starfish and shells. Even a crab seemed to scuttle across the bottom portion of it, and the woman took notice but didn't seem to mind at all. A necklace of pearls rested against her chest, just above her rather ample bosom. Her dress lacked straps and a large portion of her back was showing, a strange symbol tattooed upon it--a circle within a circle riddled with indiscernible letters and squiggles. There was no hope in trying to figure out what it meant or what its origins could be, for such things could be as old as time itself. Brushing a strand of wavy hair out of her face, the woman focused on Madeline who was lying atop the unconscious Senril.
"Are you all right, Madeline? I apologize for what this man has put you through today," the woman spoke an apology in a rather serene voice, bowing her head to implicate further sincerity.

Re: The Guardian and the Sea
Senril's body met with the floor, and the force of the collision paired with his loss of consciousness jarred Madeline from his grasp, tossing her about a foot or two away from him. Slowly picking herself up from the stone floor, she rose to her knees before her eyes widened on the sight of the Guardian. She didn't bother to stand, instead crawling her way over to him with an obvious expression of vehement worry. The silence of the underground cavern was almost calming as Madeline laid her hands on Senril's chest, feeling for the rise and fall of his breaths. She was assured of his well-being when that movement was indeed felt. Content, a soft smile spread across her lips and she laid her head down where her hands had been, no other emotion on her face save for that of relief.
It was then that a sound akin to that of flowing water met her ears. But, only after a calm voice spoke of the Guardian with an air of authority and disappointment. Was it coming from... the water?
Madeline didn't move as she watched the liquid shape into the form of a woman to then aquire the true features of one. The scholar's eyes could only stare up into this new figure's, watching the dancing blues and greens as the woman began to speak. She was apologizing for Senril, and it was only at that moment that Madeline actually realized where she was laying. Sitting up quickly, she might have blushed had a short pain not stung at the back of her head. Rubbing her temples, she looked at the woman again; this time, getting to her feet. "You're the spirit... aren't you?" she asked quietly, sure that she was, but also cautious not to speak too boldly. "And... I'm more concerned about him than I am me. I know he's the Guardian, but..." Sighing, she gazed down at him once more before finally looking around the room they were in. The soft lights rising from the glyphs and patterns chiseled into the stone were beautiful indeed. But, what did they all mean? Studying at the Citadel hadn't taught her enough, it seemed.
"Is this it...?" she mumbled. "What we came to see?"

Re: The Guardian and the Sea
"You shouldn't be," the Spirit was quick to quash her worries. "I am indeed the Spirit of the Sea, and with my powers, Senril can withstand much more than any normal human could. However, his body is only mortal; it can only take so much. I do wish he'd keep that in mind the next time he tried to do something reckless," she explained calmly, letting out a sigh of what could have possibly been a mix of worry and disappointment near the end of it. Shaking her head as she moved her eyes from Senril's unconscious form to the glowing patterns on the chamber floor, the Spirit once again set about getting the facts straight.
"This, I am afraid, is not what Senril wished to show you. This...I don't even know what this is," the Spirit answered, crouching down slowly to get a better look at the symbols. They were etched pretty deep into the stone floor, and the glow didn't seem to have any sort of source, but it was definitely mana-based light. Standing up again, the Spirit looked around. There didn't appear to be an exit. "Doesn't look like our departure is going to be an easy one."
Pacing away from the couple for a moment, the Spirit placed a hand daintily to her chin as she thought for a moment. The air was rather stagnant--no drafts or anything could be felt which made the likelihood of some sort of crevice in the stone walls unlikely. There really was nothing she could work with. "Are you sure you're all right to move on?" the Spirit asked politely as she walked closer to Madeline, waving a hand through the air causing a sphere of water to quickly surround Senril's body after which the newly form sphere hovered in the air, trailing along until it rested behind the Spirit.
"It seems I will be fighting in his place for the time being."

Re: The Guardian and the Sea
"It's only natural to worry." Madeline spoke in a soft tone, turning to face the Spirit as she stepped a short ways away from her and Senril. "It helps now that I am assured he will be alright, however. I know the power you grant him gives him massive strength... and I don't doubt that. For a moment, I suppose, I was just thinking of him as a normal person..." Her green eyes appeared sad, watching the woman as she approached, again.
Finding a way out of this cavern wouldn't be easy, and Madeline knew that even before hearing the Spirit's words. And now that she was also told that even she didn't know what this place was, she couldn't help feeling as though they had stumbled upon something of great importance. Nonetheless, until that importance was identified, this room was useless, and in the end, all that matters is their escape.
As the dark-haired woman spoke again, Madeline simply gave a nod. "I'm fine." she assured her, her eyes then gravitating toward the orb of water that had come from Senril. "But.... if I may ask: what are you planning?"

Re: The Guardian and the Sea
It was here that the Spirit smiled and placed a gentle hand on Madeline's shoulder. What she had said really struck a chord within her essence. "I implore you to keep thinking of him as a normal person. His job as a Guardian is a heavy weight upon those shoulders of his, and he needn't be reminded of it all the time," she said, still smiling. She felt silly, but when Senril had finally decided to make a friend, she felt as though he had made a very good choice, even though she had her doubts at first. Then there was the matter of her plan. Releasing Madeline from her touch, the Spirit backed away and looked up into the dark abyss from where they fell.
"I might not know what the symbols mean, but I have a feeling I know what this chamber is for. Why it was put here...that is still a mystery. However..." The Spirit's voice trailed off, an air of seriousness weighing it down. She raised her arms into the air and began singing a wordless song; just the sound itself caused the air to distort and waver. The glowing of the glyphs upon the stone floor glowed that much brighter, filling the room with a blast of sudden radiance, but the Spirit continued her singing. The sound of groans mixed in with the song and she stopped, watching contentedly as the light faded back to its normal glow, only this time, her and Madeline weren't alone in the chamber anymore. Standing on the opposite side were three figures: two hovering suits of armor with glyphs carved into the dark gray steel akin to those that were etched into the floor, and then there was the flying creature--a harpy it seemed by the looks of it. Its body was the same color tone as the armor and its feathers the same as well, though they gradually grew to a lighter gray going into a whitish color at the tips. It held a bow in hand and nocked an arrow to it.
"In ancient times, pits like these were designed as trials for traditional rites," the Spirit explained, readying herself for battle. "Now it is time to undergo ours. That is my plan."

Re: The Guardian and the Sea
Madeline blinked, her gaze locking with the Spirit's as she spoke. Smiling slightly, she nodded. If she could help ease some of his stress by thinking of him as a normal person, then she would be glad to do so. Obviously, it was a lot easier to do while he was lying unconscious than when watching him in battle. His skills were far too impressive for her to think of him as anything but the Guardian. Well... the Guardian, and her friend, of course. But, that was beside the point. Her mind had wandered quite a bit too much at that moment. In fact, she didn't drift back to reality until the sound of the Spirit's song reached her ears.
Blinking to remind herself of the situation, she gently clasped her hands together, watching the room come to life. But, just as quickly as the lights intensified, they then grew dim, and a sense of being watched permeated the air. Not too long after, Madeline's sea-green eyes caught the movement of the new figures in the room, and she quickly turned to face the Spirit. Her voice when she began to explain the situation was calm as ever, but the scholar couldn't say she felt nearly as confident. Taking in a deep breath, she gripped the handles of her tonfas, flashing the ocean spirit an unneasy glance.
"A trial, then, huh?" she muttered with a slight nervous laugh. Fighting didn't come as easily to her as it did to others. She always required the assistance of those by her side, and could do little alone. Nevertheless, Madeline realized she would need to gain confidence in herself if she would ever be of any help to Senril. This wasn't even the worst of what she would likely see in the days nearing the moment the Guardian was trained for. So, she would need to be able to steel her courage in the face of anything. Besides... Didn't she and Senril just tangle with a frighteningly large, skeletal monstrosity?
.....
Those thoughts definitely made these three foes look a lot less imposing.
