The solemn priest offers a prayer before slowly readying his mace. No words were spoken, and Vallius could feel nothing else but his archaic oath. He flings his arm outward, throwing his cloak behind him so that it won't get in the way of the fight, and with it petals of white golden light fly from his now shining mace.

Ben's eyes widen as he sees the mage, a grin stretching from ear to ear. Forget the papers. Forget the money. Forget escaping. This lady was filled to burst with all kinds of magic, just waiting for an enterprising thief to come and take it. A thief like Ben.

The magician looked rather threatening in her regalia with the two tomes floating about her.  There was no doubt that she possessed quite a bit of magical potential.  Maybe there was something in the archive chambers that could help them?  Or maybe even some more secretive documents not meant for the eyes of the public.  A mischievous smile crept on Aeria's face as she tried to open the door only to realize that it was locked.  Fortunately, there just so happened to be a key in the desk.  Borrowing it, she crammed the thing in the lock and twisted it, hearing a click that gave her great satisfaction.  Giving a good push, the door opened to reveal a rather empty room with but a single chest sitting in it.  Odd as that was, she was curious about what sort of thing would be kept here by itself, and so she set forth to investigate.

Not wasting any time in engaging, the garbed woman dashed forward and thrust her saber into one of the guards with a surprising lack of mercy.  She didn't even wince as she felt the tip of the blade penetrate flesh.  I certainly don't enjoy it but...there's so much at stake, she thought in despair as she pulled her sword arm back, watching the blade emerge from the wound it had made in the jail guard.  The silence from the rest of her teammates was rather ominous, though that was broken by the sound of one of the archive doors opening.  Exploring?  At a time like this?  There might have been time, but there certainly wasn't a lot of it.  I do hope she knows what she's doing... she thought with a sigh, readying herself for whatever attacks might come her way.

Vallius moves forward equally as ominously as his blank face, and his mace scrapes against, or more appropriately, shatters the stone floor in a path leading to his first opponent. He lifts the mace, ready to crush his enemy's skull.

Tentatively approaching the solitary chest, Aeria looked about for traps or anything of the like, but she certainly didn't sense any danger.  Kneeling down, she noticed a rather generic lock on the chest, one she had seen many times before.  Reaching into a pouch on her belt, she produced a key and jammed it into the lock, turning it with no problems.  The sound of a click placed another look of satisfaction on her face and she undid the lock, opening the lid of chest with no problems before peering inside to check upon her reward.

"Gathering of light particles, shine!  Photon!!" the mysterious woman chanted, watching in glee as the particles gathered as she requested, forming a sphere near Lethis before exploding violently with great force.  Lethis's bolts of magic hadn't done much, and she was even able to block the second with her buckler.  "Lethis, you've definitely gotten strong, but you definitely haven't lost that maniacal mind," the woman commented in a somewhat snarky tone, her voice filled with a certain knowing.  Oh she knew who this apprentice was.  She had risen through the ranks quite quickly and become a prominent guardian of the archives early on.  And here she was.  However, the early signs of...rather slightly psychotic behavior hadn't faded since when she joined.  How troublesome.

"Enough talk! Fight!!" the priest barked impatiently at the witches. As if he wanted to hear their heretical banter. May they both burn.

The flames were intense, and she could feel them gnawing at her skin through the thin cloaks that she wore about her person.  The jig was up.  She didn't expect Lethis to be that attentive--to recognize the spell and incantation as one unique to her.  Sheathing her saber for a moment, she reached for her burning cloaks and tore them off of her, unwrapping the cloth that was obscuring her face afterwards and watched as it soared through the air.  Considerable lengths of vivid pink hair filled the air as it was freed from its cloth prison.  She wore a beautiful white dress that was made of a firm, durable material and bordered and hemmed with gold pattens.  White stockings covered her legs and led down to aquamarine heels polished to a shine on her feet.  Emerald eyes gazed back at Lethis fiercely.  There were burn marks on the woman's arms but she ignored them from now, not hesitating to distance herself, knowing that she was vulnerable.

"That's right.  I am Elisia Annabeth Cordelle, First Princess of the Kingdom of Aldasrune.  What I do in my spare time is not the business of one of such a lowly position as yours, Second Rank Archive Guardian, Lethis."  Light surged around the princess as she began channeling for a spell.  This one was going to be one she needed direly.  "Quickly, light surge into the wounds of the broken!"

Pocketing the odd bangle she had confiscated from the chest, Aeria rushed to the hallway as the sounds of shouting and crackling flames filled the area.  She arrived in time to see the mysterious woman reveal herself as the very princess of Aldasrune.  What the hell was she doing in an archive prison?! Aeria thought in exasperation.  And with that power!  It really was true that she could leave at any moment.  Couldn't she use her position to rescue them all without having to fight?  No...if she could she would have done so already.  There was something more to this situation than met the eye, and Aeria wondered if this would be advantageous to her cause...or if it would cause all of her plans to come tumbling down.

Taking a deep breath to calm herself, Aeria produced her gun and took aim around the corner.  It would be a tough shot not to hit Vallius, but if she crouched down a bit and...yes, that was perfect.  Taking aim at the jail guard's lower body, Aeria fired her gun, hoping that the bullet hit its target and nothing else.

"The rank of a witch is so high? Clearly this entire country must be purified of its peoples!" he shouts angrily before taking another bat at the guards head, and a sickening crack emanates throughout the archives. His skull cracked and blood ran down the guard's helmet. One more blow and he dies, perfect.

Everyone is shouting about something, but Ben isn't paying attention. He's just watching the melee, looking for a gap to slip through.

"Recover!"  With her channeling complete, Elisia called forth the light and it converged on her form, swarming over the many injuries she had sustained.  It couldn't completely quell the burn, but it was enough to combat the pain and reverse the damage dealt by it and then some.  The light dissipated and she breathed in relief before taking a step back.  "I don't know what you have against mages, but I am not one.  I am a cleric, a devout," she explained to the war priest.  "I was given the seat of power because of my affinity with the light.  It causes me to follow a path of goodness and would never let me wield it if I were tied to evil."  She wasn't sure how much her words would impact the field of insanity seemingly surrounding this man's mind, but she hoped it helped.  Lethis was....well, supposedly good, but Elisia knew better.  She was psychotic and certainly apt to use her magics for evil.  Elisia, on the other hand, was basically putting not only her position at risk, but her own well-being as well to discover the truth and protect this world from death.  There was a difference between good magic and bad magic.  She wondered if he could see it?

Following the path of good?  Maybe there was hope for Aeria after all.  And this world.  Princess Elisia was going to work to save it.  She didn't expect the two other escapees to help, but it would mean they could linger in this world for a longer time and do whatever it was they did.  Which surely couldn't be easy now that everything was falling into decay.  There's probably better places to get help, but these two are part of it now.  And really they owe the Princess a favor.  Maybe I could use that to my advantage?  Keeping that in mind, Aeria lined up her gun once again.  Her new target was the last remaining jail guard fodder.  Once he was out of the way, Lethis would have absolutely nothing to protect her.  And something told Aeria that she wasn't exactly the sturdiest of people.

The war priest took the mana-infused blast without flinching, and scoffed at her, "Said the weak witch running away with her tail between her legs! I've fought and defeated better than YOU, worm!"

As Vallius runs towards the witch, smirking with vainglory, he off-handedly rams his mace into the gut of the nearest guard, knocking the wind out of him.

Benjamin curses as the guard's weapon bites into his flesh, but the pain is quickly thrust to the back of his mind when he sees the opening he's been waiting for. As he moves to jump the fallen guard and make a break for the mage, Vallius steps into his path. Benjamin curses him and his "stupid smug face" under his breath, before slipping into the shadows to avoid more of the guard's punishment.

Aeria's aim proved to be rather sub-par for that particular shot, and she cursed as she quickly tucked the gun away as she realized the guard was advancing on her.  Drawing her sword, she was just barely able to dodge the fool's attack, holding her ground and slashing right back at him with ease.  The sword was what she was proficient with, so hopefully her strikes would be more accurate now.  However, she was worried about how the others were faring against the magician.  Though Vallius had a lot of strength and willpower, he was receiving quite a bit of punishment.  They just needed to hold out just a bit longer...

The fight had seemed to turn to one that was explicitly between Lethis and the hardy war priest.  There was something so deep-seated in that man.  What foul experience had he had with witches to make him hate magic so much?  Truly he knew that it was magic that allowed this world to exist in the first place?  And it was the lack of such that was slowly killing it.  Still, he seemed focused on the archive mage for now, so she kept her piece, walking up next to Aeria and the silent fellow.  If she wanted to dish out some damage, she had better rely on the sharpness of her saber, for her magic may indeed be needed for later in the case that the war priest needed healing.

Vallius flinches, this time, although he still seems less than pained. Vallius' feet smash the floor as he continues his mad-dash towards the soon-to-be-dead witch. As he rushes forward, he grabs an herb and gets munchin'.

Taking off towards the last remaining target, Aeria skidded to a halt, not bothering to look back at the dead jail guard.  His demise was practically written in the stars.  The fighter felt her blood boiling and her skin growing hotter.  A burst of red energy surrounded her and she sheathed her sword for now in favor of retrieving her gun.  Sure she had missed one shot already, but getting close was going to be difficult with the mage throwing those ethereal chains around.  They already ensnared the war priest, so who was to say that she wasn't next on the woman's list?  I'll just draw her attention; that's what I'll do.  I will be their shield, she thought, feeling a smile crawl onto her face as the aura blazed around her intently.

"Lethis!  I implore that you put a stop to this nonsense!  Surely you see that the odds are against you.  I...I cannot ensure you'll live through this!" Elisia commanded in a loud voice.  Their positions had already been given away by the immense amount of raucous.  She could only hope now that he didn't try to interfere.  There was no doubt in her mind that he would strike her down in an instant if given the chance, and this was a pretty large chance.  If they could cease the quarrel with Lethis early and get a move on, their chances at a fatal encounter with him would be drastically lower, but they had to move and soon.  Otherwise...

The war priest grins wide like a fucking idiot. Clearly something had gone horribly right for him, in spite of being chained down and already having been barraged by raw mana. "YOU CAN SQUIRM AS MUCH AS YOU LIKE WORM, BUT YOU'LL NEVER LIVE THROUGH THIS! IGNORE THE OTHER FOOLISH WITCH!" He struggled against the chains with a feral and demonic grin.

"Looks like she believes you," Aeria said softly to the war priest as she moved up behind him, leaning to the side and taking aim with her rifle.  "Delusional."  Harnessing the power of the aura, she fired a round off at the mage, hoping for it to penetrate its mark this time and garnering her attention.  Though he looked fine despite facing such a strong magical assault, Aeria figured the war priest might be a little relieved to have some of the pressure off of him, and surely he was seeking for revenge.  Whatever it was that went through that crazy mind of his.  She was seriously starting to doubt whether or not she wanted to count this man amongst her allies in her mission to save this dying world, but he would make such an invaluable comrade.  There really was no choice.

She wasn't listening.  And now she was going to die.  Elisia wasn't the traitor here.  By far that wasn't the case.  It was the knights who were turning against this very world.  They needed to face punishment far worse than death for the crimes they were committing, but first proof had to be brought to everyone's attention.  Only the rallying of the people could stop the knights.  Otherwise, the knights would use their extensive power and rule to quell any other supposed power in the government from trying to accuse them.  Proof or not.  What Elisia needed was a rebellion.

The war priest shook his head, "Weak witch. How horrible it must be to be you right now." He told her calmly as Ben finally made his move on her, and not in the way he usually does at bars. He dashes at her and gives a much needed iron mace to the face.

Ben rips his arm from her soul, a fragment of experience clenched in his hand, tendrils of association and memorization trailing after him as though he had pulled out her heart and they were the arteries. The particles departed her form and gathered in front of the mages, forming a sphere and convulsing wildly, just waiting anxiously for the command. Gathering of light particles, shine! She clenched her open hand into a fist. Photon!! The sphere exploded suddenly sending the mage tumbling across the floor, broken, bleeding, and violated in a way that Elisia did not understand yet...but she wasn't sure she wanted to know.
