"Agh!" Wisteria cried out, shivering from the pain. She breathe in through her teeth, feeling her heart pound against her chest as her skin seared with unimaginable pain. Gritting her teeth, Wisteria glared angrily at the creature that had just unleashed this suffering on her. How dare it commit this affront to her person. She grit her teeth and threw her arm over her tome, the pages flipping angrily as she was surrounded by a cold, frozen aura that threatened to freeze the whole area surrounding her.
"Kneel, worm! And never see the light of day again!" Wisteria commanded, her violet eyes blazing with anger as her magic collapsed upon the creature, encasing it entirely in ice. Only once the act was done and the beast lie dead at her feet did Wisteria's aura disappear back into her skin. She shivered again, still reeling from the pain of the acid. Soon enough, Wisteria managed to regain her composure and brushed back the bangs from her eyes. She could not lose focus.
Wisteria casts Winter's Embrace on Cryos! 13 Int Ice DMG! Chance of Freeze!

Wisteria reached out and let her hands fall on the chain that linked her to Elisia. With a simple breath and a murmur of a word, the chain evaporated into the air and part of her power steeped into Elisia's body. She held a lot of magical power in her tiny body, more than any of the others could handle. Even a little bit of her power would be incredibly beneficial to them.
Wisteria activates her White Chains on Elisia! 40% Max HP and MP restored!
Wisteria breathes evenly.

"What the hell do you think you're doing?!" Xylia shouted at the man who seemed to be intent on ignoring her. She had released him earlier and now he was just...staring at her and jumping about for whatever goddamn reason. "Just fucking hit me! Here, let me show you!" Xylia lifted the lever in her hand above her head and slammed it down on top of the thug's own head. The crack of bone was music to her ears and she would not rest until either this man lie dead at her feet, or someone who actually had the balls to attack her showed up.
Fucking weaklings, all of them.

Elisia's eyes widened in terror as the muscled thug approached her rapidly. Surely this would spell the end! The man would beat her senseless and there was nothing she could do to prevent him from knocking her out. She braced herself, but even as the man's first blow landed on her, she felt relief in the form of Wisteria's powerful magick. Gray eyes fluttered open and she found herself able to move again.
"Oh thank the Gods," she muttered thankfully, stepping away from her attacker. Without the slightest hesitation now, she turned her bow on the man Xylia had been targeting––it was time to trim the enemy lines and get the fuck away from the front lines. Firing her first speedy arrow, Elisia dashed off, charging her bow with fire mana as she went to loose a volley of explosive arrows.

Alessia had raised her shield in an attempt to stave off some of the damage from the foul creature's rather ferocious assault, but it did little to help her. It did even less to help poor Wisteria, who cried out in pain only to send her own icy blast at the mutant. Alessia drew her sword back, glancing down at the tiny child who was doing so much despite her miniature size. "Are you alright?" the Magic Knight inquired, raising her shield arm to conjure another glyph for Elisia who had just approached.

Alessia moves to H5!
Alessia utilizes Magic Circle: Blade Beam! Alessia attacks Sidney! 5 Int Damage!
Upon noticing the last of their foes approaching, Alessia brandished her blade and darted around Wisteria––making sure to avoid the preservation chemicals––to cover the fragile spellcaster. "This is the home stretch everyone," the Magic Knight called out, raising her sword and focusing her will into the blade. The circular symbol magically etched into the metal began to glow, extending its form with a magical aura before the Azure Star sliced through the air, causing the mystical blade to slice through the man's torso. "Don't relent!" she commanded, repositioning in an attempt to block whatever counterattacks might come her way.
Elisia moves to I5!
Elisia attacks Sidney! 12 Atk Damage!
Ignoring the Magic Knight and her spew of commands, Elisia shifted into position just slightly ahead of Wisteria. The Sharpshooter couldn't speak for the other two, but she didn't care for the way Alessia tried to create orders whenever things were going well. Sure, she probably trained with her faction to lead these kind of charges, but the rest of them weren't stupid! They could make their own decisions! Well... maybe Xylia could have used guidance, but, then again, there was no one who could properly tame Xylia. Regardless, the Sharpshooter let off her own attack, making a mental note to discuss the Magic Knight's behavior with the Guild Master at a later time.

"Lot of pain, very little energy left," Wisteria summarized quickly enough for Alessia. Judging her state of being wasn't difficult. She had just unloaded a vast amount of her magical energy and was left with very little to do with. She still managed to keep her breath calm and even despite her initial surge of panic and heart-racing pain. She watched as Alessia and Elisia stood in front of her, blocking the way for the thug to get any closer to her. If he managed to get a good hit on her, she might wind up kissing the floor. That was not a pleasant thought.
She had to rest in order to regain her strength. She took a step back and put herself down on the ground, shifting her legs beneath her and keeping her back straight. Wisteria put her hands on her lap, closed her eyes, and began to breathe in calm, even intervals. She felt for the leylines of magic in the air and the crust of the earth. It was masked here because of the horrible smell of corpses and acid, but she could still feel it.
Wisteria moves to J-4
Wisteria breathes meditatively.

Whatever these other losers were doing, Xylia didn't much care. Wisteria was shrieking in pain, but what for? She now knew that she was alive, fully and truly. That was nothing to scream about. No, wait, that was plenty to scream about. But happy screams, not the ear-shattering pitch Xylia had to put up from Wisteria. Still, if there was one thing that Xylia hated more than watching stupid people hurt bystanders...it was people who didn't know who the real fucking threat here was.
"Oi!" Xylia shouted, running up next to the thug that had just completely ignored her. "How is it that none of you freaks ever put up a goddamn fight!?" Xylia tossed her weapon away and pulled up her fists. The broken lever slid across the floor, forgotten. Maybe she'd pick it up later. Might find a use for it. For now, she had a couple bones to break. Without hesitation, Xylia's fist shot forward and slammed into the thug's face. One quick motion, but a lot of power behind it.

Alessia and Elisia moved as one, the former charging to a new position before landing a significant blow upon the thug's frame. It certainly wasn't as potent as Xylia's raw power, but it would help get the job done easily enough. Elisia had fired yet another arrow, but did not move this time to block the man's advancement toward Wisteria. As far as the Sharpshooter could tell, he could not reach the tiny mage and, if she placed herself in front of the girl, he might just be able to land a hit on herself! That would not be great...

Wisteria remained still, motionless in her spot on the ground. She was technically not even touching the ground, but no one would be able to see that. She continued to breathe, slowly restoring the magic that ran through her veins. When she focused on the leylines, the process felt like it went a little quicker, but Wisteria knew that wasn't true. It took much more than just focus to draw from areas with little magic. Her mother could do it effortlessly from huge distances, but she was far more experienced.
Wisteria had to settle for her mediocrity.

"Okay, now you're just being fucking stupid." Xylia contorted the expression on her face into something that resembled a mix of disgust and impatience and a little bit of anger. The guy wasn't even trying anymore. All he saw was the little mage in the corner on her last few breaths and was trying to make a run for her. He wasn't getting through Alessia's giant body-shield, and like hell Xylia would let this nobody touch anyone except her. She got no pleasure when other people got hurt. She wanted to take the hits. It made her stronger.
Speaking of becoming stronger, Xylia raised her fist and slammed it as hard as she could into the side of the guy's face, hoping that the hard bone would make her fingers snap. Either that or make the guy's jaw break loose. Whichever, it didn't matter. The sound alone would be enough to make Xylia shiver in delight.

Wisteria opened her eyes and reached forward, taking hold of Xylia's chain that connected Wisteria to Xylia's soul. She watched the chain's form falter slightly, then it was set ablaze, the chain evaporating before her eyes. A surge of power ran through the chain and into Xylia, who began to glow a deep red color as the magic surrounding her gave her enormous power. Satisfied with that, Wisteria pushed herself up off the ground and took a few steps forward, standing tall and standing proud next to Elisia. One who was physically short, but an aura greater than even a titan.
Wisteria pulled her hand back to her grimoire, dark tendrils of magic seeping forward from the black book and into the palm of her hand. When she drew the magic away from the book, she formed it into the easiest shape she could. The orb glimmered with dark purple magic. She wasn't usually at a range or such low magical power to use standard magic attacks, but this would assist them greatly against a single target.

The last thug went down hard leaving the group to ponder in silence in regard to the mutant creature and why the thugs were affiliated with it. Nothing stirred in the dim green luminance that filled the area. As the group stepped forward to perhaps peruse the consoles and screens, the sound of steel grinding against steel resounded through the room as it became obvious that the elevator on the far wall was being used. A simple ding sounded out as it reached their floor, and the door slid open. What the door revealed, however, was not a gang of thugs or bandits. It wasn't even a new grotesque monster.
A man stepped out onto the walkway leading to the elevator who could easily be described as an army of one. He stood tall, way over 6 feet, and had a bulky body to match. On his back in straps rested two flamethrowers--one with a normal emitter and one with an emitter that was intricately shaped like a dragon, the steelwork impressive beyond anything. In his left hand he held a small gun-like weapon with a large tin tank attached to it, presumably holding some sort of ammunition. In his other hand was a long weapon that appeared to be a single fire rocket launcher. Though difficult to see in the dim light, it was clear that his skin was tan in color, and the black framed specs on his face covered grey eyes with scars going across each one. His garb was that of a scientist--beige button up shirt with a front pocket and khakis. His white lab coat was painted in so many colors--red like blood, green like the liquid in the tanks, and blue like ink. It was tattered and frayed. It had certainly seen better days. He looked around for something and eventually spoke.

Elisia shifted uncomfortably as the man approached––a veritable mountain of muscle that gave off the vibe of complete anomaly. His manner of dress certainly didn't give her the feeling of a man as scarred and brutish as this. Yet he was eerily familiar. In fact, the longer she looked at him the more she felt she recognized him. It took a second but the Sharpshooter's eyes widened. This was not an abominable stranger carrying flamethrowers practically ready to burn the place to the ground. This was the man she had seen in that picture she stashed away. Well, some version of him at any rate! A monstrous mutation. Not quite the strange creature they had just sent packing, but a transformation totally abnormal to the natural order.
This was not good. This was not good at all! Elisia's muscles tightened. She wanted to run. "I think we should go," she whispered to the others, gray eyes locked on the man's figure and hands tightly clenched around the frame of her bow. She didn't like this situation one bit. She had this nagging feeling that if they tried to confront him nothing good would happen.
Of course, Alessia shook her head, blue-green eyes sizing up the mountain before her. He was tall. Taller than her and she stood practically an amazonian legend. "We're here on a mission," she retorted quietly, "we're not leaving until we know this place has been cleaned out of bandits." The Magic Knight could feel Elisia's eyes shift and burn holes into the back of her armor. She ignored her comrade for the moment, still eyeing the man. "Running isn't smart. Neither is picking a fight," she said first to Elisia and then to Xylia. "What do you think, Wisteria?"

That ding sound sent a shiver down Wisteria's spine. It was unlike her to be so worked up about a single sound, but she felt power on the other side of that elevator. An unknown power. She was taught not to fear the unknown. Her mother always tried to train her to control her emotions, but Wisteria found herself fumbling to find words to respond to Alessia with. There were none to spare for this man. She was just a little girl caught up in the motions of the world at this point. For once, she was very, very glad she did not take up the leadership role in place of Alessia.
"I'll tell you what we're here for!" Xylia ignored any notion of caution and pounded her fist into her glove. "We're here to fuck bitches and get money!"
No Xylia. That was not the way to handle this. Oh gods, Wisteria shivered again in her thoughts, someone needed to tell her this was just a nightmare.

The man heard the whispering with ease and his eyes locked in instantly on Alessia. What were they doing, speaking in hushed tones? He had asked such a simple question. Did it really require that much thought as to what their purpose in this lab was? At long last one of the more brazen girls spoke up quite easily so he could here and proclaimed their purpose--something vulgar beyond compare. The man's hulking form began to tremble and he let out a loud roar that shook the very foundations of the laboratory. "I will not allow you to expose HER to such vulgarity!" the man shouted, raising his armaments and taking aim at the group. The flamethrowers on his back seemed to spit fire randomly of their own accord. His eyes were so tense and his face showed anger mixed with a strange weariness. Who was this man and what was he doing down in this place? Was he associated with the bandits? So many questions but now that Xylia had provoked him so, the questions would most likely have to wait.

"Shit," Elisia cursed under her breath, drawing her bow and knocking an arrow. She didn't want to fight this man. Especially not after what he had just screamed. The 'her' that he mentioned could only be the girl in the photograph! She felt rather certain that this man was probably not involved with the bandits who had taken over the lab––he was probably enraged over what the bandits had done. Could they have tried something with the girl? Was the man's monstrous form a consequence of actions on the bandits' part? The Sharpshooter could only guess at this point, but it didn't seem too farfetched in her opinion.
And now that Xylia had angered him, the party would have to take him on. Gray eyes sharpened on the brawler's figure––for the briefest of moments she considered sticking an arrow or two in the girl's body. Although the desire came not from a place of good intention, it did offer strategic advantage. The brutal woman definitely fought way harder when injured––if they had to fight this poor man then being able to incapacitate him faster would be a great boon! But Xylia likely would not view being attacked by her allies logically. In fact, she would probably just turn on all of them and that would only spell disaster.
Elisia grit her teeth together. This was not okay! "Fuck!" she swore again, removing the knocked arrow from her bow. She shook her head. "This sucks," she muttered, forcing herself to restring the projectile and take aim. "When we get back––because I sure as hell don't plan to be deep fried––I'm having a talk with Magnus. This is fucking ridiculous!"
Elisia moves to G5!
Alessia almost swore. Almost. She should have spoken up before Xylia had the chance to say anything! Now the man was enraged and the rest of the group was not handling it well. What had been a test for their battle synergy had turned into a morale nuke. The Magic Knight had never heard the Sharpshooter swear this much and be so put off by their situation, much less desiring to speak with their Guildmaster! This wasn't going to go well at all. Not with all of the negative energy brewing between them.
Alessia, however, said nothing as the girl passed by and prepared her shot. She merely turned a gauntleted hand to the girl and unleashed the same seal on the girl's mana. The spokesperson was not pleased, but there was little else to be done. Adding to the already well-formed displeasure toward Xylia would not help anything.
That did not, however, stop the Magic Knight from hoping the woman would take a beating that would set her straight.

With that in mind she fired arrow after arrow before stepping back to Wisteria's side with a grim look on her face. "We better not kill him," she growled, thinking not of the mutation before her, but of the man and girl in the picture. Of the man who had been driven to this.

"Sorry?! What the hell are you sorry for?" Xylia laughed loudly, throwing back her head in a mighty cackle. She slammed her fist into her glove again, maybe as a way of intimidation, or maybe she just really liked the feeling of hitting her own hand. "We're gonna cream this guy and smear his ashes all over the walls!" Xylia bent down and slid her legs far back behind her, her fingers touching the ground where she took a knee. A familiar position, she was getting ready to charge forward.
With the speed and ferocity of a bull, Xylia punted herself forward, destroying part of the ground where she kicked off with the force of it and charged at the man. A second and a half later, she bared her shoulder and rammed into the guy. Only one of two things could result from the heavy blow. Either the monstrous man was thrown back onto his ass, or Xylia just hit a giant wall that refused to budge.
Xylia runs forward like a Charging Bull! 11 Atk DMG! Knocks target down for 1 turn!

If Xylia was useful for anything, it was grabbing attention and putting it on herself. With some luck, the monstrous man would be so offended by Xylia's words and actions that he would focus all of his rage and torment on her. That was Wisteria's hope. If Xylia reached a point where she was injured enough to die, Wisteria had it in her mind that she would have to choose whether to heal her or not. She didn't want to. Wisteria knew she would not want to heal her, but...if Xylia died too quickly, the rest of them would be in major trouble. Alessia was sturdy, sure, and her shield would come in great handy against the flames. But Xylia was a monster. She had power and a massive amount of survive-ability through sheer force of will. Wisteria had no doubt in her mind that Xylia could kill any of them if they decided to turn on her. Perhaps even all of them. The woman was simply that frightening.
The little mage took a few steps closer to the monstrous man. If she was to do anything this battle, she needed to get within range of him. Oh how she wished to be back home with a glass of warm cocoa.

The arrows pierced Hiroshi's chest but he did not flinch at all. He didn't even attempt to evade them. All he did was cast a stone cold gaze towards Elisia. Likewise, when Xylia charged into him, even with her immense strength, she could not knock this wall of a man over. Damaged though he was, he would not fall so easily. Hefting his rocket launcher up, he took aim at Xylia and fired, immediately loading the next rocket into the weapon as it only held one at a time.

The arrows pierced Hiroshi's chest but he did not flinch at all. He didn't even attempt to evade them. All he did was cast a stone cold gaze towards Elisia. Likewise, when Xylia charged into him, even with her immense strength, she could not knock this wall of a man over. Damaged though he was, he would not fall so easily. Hefting his rocket launcher up, he took aim at Xylia and fired, immediately loading the next rocket into the weapon as it only held one at a time.

Elisia's teeth ground together as Xylia commented on her own remark to the man. The nerve of her! Of course, she hadn't seen the photo she had seen but even if she had, she would have been the same blunt and inhuman person that she was. Elisia sneered and took a couple steps forward. She didn't say anything in response, unwilling to take the risk of turning the woman against their cause. They had to knock the man senseless to make sense of everything going on. That was all the sharpshooter had to focus on.

She raised her shield and sword––she did not swing or call upon a beam of mana, but rather unlocked a seal on Xylia's power. Hopefully the woman would make good use of it.

Wisteria frowned a little. Sure, Xylia would shortly be mad with power and unleash quite a bit of damage on the guy before them, but she somehow felt like there was not much else here to do. The bandits were all but cleared out, their job was done. Couldn't they just leave? If they really wanted to, they probably could, but then what would happen with this man? There was so much unexplained here that Wisteria could not help but feel curious. And very, very concerned.
She swallowed the lump in her throat easily, focusing her attention onto Xylia. At this rate, she wouldn't reach the man in time to do much of anything to him. It was all on the more mobile of the group. If they got injured somehow and Wisteria could heal them, she would, but right now none of them needed her power. So she took hold of Xylia's chain that was attached to the brawler's chest and watched it evaporate.

When she raised her fist, she could feel her muscles react. And when she slammed it into the man's chest, she could feel flesh contort and bones snap. Whether the bones belonged to her or him, Xylia didn't care.

Hiroshi once again seemed generally unfazed by the attacks that had managed to land on him. The archer's recent attack was extremely lackluster compared to her initiation. He plucked the one arrow that had pierced his chest out without flinching and tossed the blood thing upon the floor of the lab. The woman with the brute strength was strong, but he would prove who was the stronger one. He raised one of his projectile weapons, the strange gun with the storage tank attached, and aimed at Xylia before pulling the trigger. A huge blast of oil shot out of the barrel and coated the woman from head to toe, the black sludge-like substance falling off of her and dropping onto the floor. From the smell, it would be obvious what it was.

Xylia crossed her arms in front of her face before the big man dumped the oil on her. She knew what the stuff was before it even touched her. She could smell it. It smelled like death. Xylia liked that smell. She had to grin now, there was nothing more exciting, more exhilarating, than the possibility of dying in a swath of flame and shrapnel. She felt her muscles bulge on her arm, she was ready for this.

No doubt he would take advantage of the situation and light the brawler on fire and the Magic Knight did not wish to be caught in the blast. The girl hadn't taken that much damage just yet and, even if it would have bothered a normal person, Xylia seemed to much prefer taking a beating. It practically inspired to her to beat the ever-living-crap out of what was hurting her. Falling in line next to Elisia, the Magic Knight paused and reached into a satchel. She pulled out a tiny shard of crystal mana and pressed it into the girl's arm––with her empowerment fading it would be best to use the remaining mana she had to pepper the flamethrower-wielding man with arrows.

The mage had pushed it and from what she could tell it was designed to do something with the fire. Considering the monstrosity before them had flamethrowers on his person and was throwing oil around, it couldn't hurt to make sure that fires would stay put out. The archeress frowned nonetheless. "We could've avoided this mess if it weren't for Xylia," she muttered, mostly to herself but loud enough for Wisteria to hear.

Was this woman's attacks getting stronger? It was like the more pain she endured, the stronger her force became. She didn't even really seemed fazed. The man could see it click in each of their eyes--he had doused the woman in oil. But she was not afraid, herself. She kept attacking, keeping the pressure on. In response, Hiroshi retrieved his flamethrower and let it loose, engulfing most of them in flame, the flames taking kindly to the oil-covered Xylia in particular. He took the moment to gain some distance between himself and Xylia.

Hiroshi also noticed that the young girl had brought up the emergency showers. Their high-powered water streams would put a damper on his assault, but would they be able to use them? He would try to wear them down before they had a chance. He still had quite a bag of tricks available.
