Loki woke with a start. How embarrassing for the butler to sleep longer that anyone else! He quickly rose and spread his bed, neatly fluffing the pillows and even managing to remove all wrinkles fro the sheets and mattress. That done, he stepped back and faded into the background, a neat and cheery smile on his face, briefly wondering if the hospital staff took adequate care in storing his poison coated gloves.

Layla nodded, though still uncertain. In truth. she had never had a woman care for her. Raven and Myuu were the only ones she had ever had any real contact with and though Myuu was like a girl at times, it was more like a childish sort of thing. This woman had an almost motherly air to her that made Layla feel, in a way, safe.

"Still," she began, a bit slowly and carefully. "It must have been a lot of trouble to take care of all seven of us." Though, how they were able to treat the ghost girl was beyond her. Layla decided not to dwell on it, least the thinking hurt her brain. Suddenly, a thought struck her. "Oh!" She had almost forgotten. "Since you helped us, we should repay you in some way! I mean, I don't know about funding. . . ." Seeing as how this was a different world, in her mind anyway, the money her family made probably wouldn't make any difference. She quickly continued, "But if there's anything else, I can try!"

The nurse shook her head nervously. "No, no. This is a free clinic. All treatment is paid for by the government, so don't you fear. On the flip side, this clinic has been reserved for only extreme cases; the government can't pay for everything, after all." She gave them all a warming smile. "You are all so very kind. I would recommend you all get back in your beds. You won't be discharged until tomorrow. I know you've slept a lot already, but it is nighttime now, so there's not really anything to do except wait for tomorrow."

August had already begun drifting off to sleep. He was way to week to worry about anything at the moment.

"But before you go to sleep, do you know who did this to you? I am still stressing about who in the world would terrorize and maime you gentle travellers," Ilsa spoke with concern.

"I'll try," Layla agreed almost reluctantly. She didn't feel tired at all but knew it would be best not to overexert her body. Especially after the beating she had taken. At the inquiry about who attacked them, the Little Lady seemed to frown. She wanted to know why they were attacked as well. Deciding it was alright to answer, the nurse had saved them after all, Layla turned to the woman.

"It was . . . a girl," she said slowly, as if trying to remember. "She had a spear. The prongs could lengthen. She didn't tell us why. She wanted us to die." Layla paused. "That's all I can remember."

Solo slowly came back to consciousness, immediately looking around. It looked the place was an hospital of some sort... Continuous flashes of the previous battle shook his mind and made his head hurt. They were virtually massacred by the mysterious girl, but seeing as everyone was there in the same room, they made it out safely, to say it that way.

Aside from the nurse and the small chatter about who did that to them, there was nothing interesting, so he decided to plunge down into the realm of sleep as he closed his eyes. This all seemed like some sort of mad-house tale.

Ilsa looked worried. "Octane Serpent...," she muttered quietly to herself. "That spear she used is the legendary Octane Serpent. The military has a bounty on that girl. She has been spreading Nightmare Taint throughout the land which is a crime punishable by dream death," she explained. She shook her head and looked worried. With a wave of her hands, the lights dimmed in the room. "I'm afraid I must leave you now; I must report this to the local military branch. Get some more rest for now. Tomorrow, I will return to you and discharge you. Farewell."

With that, Ilsa left the group to sleep away their pain, for tomorrow, they would be up and forced to face whatever the Dreamlands had to offer.

Aria wondered how they could possibly heal someone who wasn't truly formed. But it didn't bother her much. This was a dream world after all, anything could happen. She was wondering whether or not she should follow the Nurse's advice. She had little need for sleep, but she guessed it wouldn't hurt. So she quietly disappeared and reappeared in her bed, out like a light.

Loki was already sleeping, somewhat at least. Standing in the background, his eyes wide open and his mouth a bit ajar in his smile. He still heard all that was said and his sub-conscious mind filed it away for future mulling. Why would a bounty head risk capture to attack a band of newcomers? That answer would have to wait until the morning came. His conscious mind resting and his sub-conscious alert for any need of his attention, he waited for the new day to dawn.

Dylath-Leen Military Branch, Main Office...

"And you're absolutely sure about the report, Private?"

Ilsa was standing in the main office of the military branch in Dylath-Leen. In front of her sat the Head Officer and standing beside his desk was, to her fortune, the Colonel, Amy Liesenzweil. "It cannot be miscomprehended, ma'am," Ilsa replied tersely and professionally. "Young girl. Carries around a spear with a very distinct description. There's no mistaking it."

"So. It is her after all," Amy said aloud, and began to ponder. She quickly shook herself out of it. The colonel turned and gazed at the Head Officer who had been listening intently; he was never really a part of big things like this. "Do you know of Lieutenant Eidelwise's location? Has he made it back from Sarnath yet?"

The Head Officer shook his head slowly. "I'm afraid not. He is en route though; he should be back by tomorrow morning."

"Excellent. He's not going to like it, but he'll have to go back to the General and let him know," Amy said. "Handel, you're dismissed for the night. Make sure that the group you are taking care of gets properly set up for their venture tomorrow." She nodded as Ilsa saluted her and walked briskly out of the room. Then, she turned to face the Head Officer. "As for Brandon, let him know that I'm staying at the Chariot Inn in the north part of town." She saluted him and vice versa before the colonel departed to get some adequate rest.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The lights brightened suddenly and Ilsa stepped into the infirmary room. "Good morning to you all," she said with a smile. The closet door was open and their possessions could be seen. "I've filled out all of your paperwork, so you're officially discharged. Collect your things and head into town. Since you're obviously new here, why don't you take a look around at the shops? Also, it might be worth your while to check out the Bulletin Board if you find yourself without anything to do. If you have any problems, feel free to visit me here at the Infirmary or go to the Dylath-Leen Military Branch. Someone over there should be able to help you." With that, she bowed and headed out of the room to tend to other patients.

The group crawled out of their beds and put on their equipment. Whatever the nurse had done to take care of their wounds must have been some high grade procedure, for the pain was nearly nonexistent and the wounds were very close to closing. So, feeling much better than the day before, the group exited the infirmary and headed out into the streets of Dylath-Leen where several shops existed.

"You guys want to take a look around? Let's split up and meet back here in a while, okay?" August said, gesturing to the spot in front of the infirmary. While he was out, he planned on finding a safe place to stay, seeing as how they were virtually homeless in this new world of dreams.

Aryn waited a moment, to see if the others would leave first. When they didn't she hesitantly moved away to peruse some of the shops. One in particular caught her eye: the store that sold synthetic items. She'd never heard of such a thing before, this 'synthesizing'. The knight entered, briefly assaulted by the heat and strong smell of a strange forge. The man at the counter cordially greeted her and handed a list of the things they could synthesize.

"You look as if you could use a new sword, miss. This one here would do you well." He pointed at a single entry, called a Lucid Longsword.

Curious. "What's it look like?" she inquired.

The went into a back room for a few passing moments, then returned with a rather odd-looking sword. It's blade was completely clear and glistening, quite like glass. "You'll have to supply the materials, though you look as if you've acquired a few things, traveling?"

Aryn produced a few things she'd kept from the creatures the party had defeated and placed them on the counter. The man picked through them, singling out what looked like a small jewel and pieces of a blade. "These'll do. Just wait here miss." He left her standing there to disappear once more into the back room. Aryn supposed the furnace in the front was just for display, or perhaps for heat.

While she waited, she wandered the shop, looking at all the neat and eye-catching items that could be synthesized. It wasn't too long before the man reappeared with a clear-bladed sword. She returned to the counter, payed up, and took the sword. The knight took an experimental swing, appreciating how the light reflected off it as she did. With that, she replaced her old, banged up blade with the new one in its sheathe and stowed the old one.

Aryn left the shop to wander the streets for a while to wait on the others. It shouldn't be too long.

"That seems like the best course of action," Layla agreed, nodding her head. "Maybe we'll find some things that will be useful." Especially in a dangerous place like this. They would need some weapons and armor that could protect them. Looking at her companions, she pointed toward the streets. "I'll go take a look around. Oh, and. . . ." Layla seemed to hesitant. "I apologize if I end up using too much of our current funds." Giving them all a small bow, the fourteen year old girl proceeded to make her way through the streets, in an attempt to find anything useful.

Layla found many shops that proved useful, the item, the weapon and the armor. She entered them all, scrutinizing the merchandise. She found many useful items and yet, hesitated to buy them. Remembering what Raven had told her when looking for things, she decided it would be best for her to explore some more. Continuing on her way, it wasn't long until she reached a strange place. It didn't look like any of the other shops. Curious, the Little Lady unconsciously wandered over and noticed Aryn just leaving. She seemed to have gotten something from the place.

Lightly stepping forward, she paused a few steps away, waiting. It wasn't long until the person minding the place noticed her and he raised an eyebrow. Layla gave him a little wave before walking over to him.

"Hello," she greeted, hands clasped behind her back.

"Well, what's a young girl like you doing here?" the man inquired, bending down to her level.

"If possible, I would like to examine your wares," she answered politely. "My companion was just here and seemed to have brought soemthing from you."

"Ah, you mean the lady with the sword," the man nodded in understanding. "Well, if you really want something, you'll have to bring the materials for it. This is a Synthesizing shop after all." Layla nodded, mind immediately going back to the video games she had played.

"Do you have anything like these?" Layla drew her needles and showed it to the man who examined the thin metal. After a moment of scratching his chin, he nodded.

"I do believe I do," he said, standing up straight. "Here, I'll show you a sample." Layla followed the man and waited for him as he searched. Not long after, he came back out with something similar to leaves. Curious, Layla touched the edges and blinked. They were quite sharp. If she had made the slightest movement while touching the edge, she would have cut her finger. Seeing her interest, the man continued, "You'll need three Enchanted Leaves for me to make the whole set."

"Okay," Layla agreed, rummaging in her bag and pulling out the items. The man took them and went to the back. It took another minute or two of waiting before he returned with the set. Thanking him, Layla quickly paid for it and left, waving good-bye. She had to return now.

Throwing Leaves are synthesized. Three Enchanted Leaves and 155 Gold are lost.

[Layla] equips Throwing Leaves.

Post by Masquerade Wed Jul 14, 2010 1:54 am

August went to the center of town. He wasn't interested in shops, but more into what the group was going to do next. Here they were in a dream world that must have possessed many different things beyond imagination. Certainly they would have to explore. When he made it to the bulletin board, he noticed a few notices with highlighted words that happened to be areas they needed to go to. He stuck with one notice that had an area that he was familiar with.

"The Staircase of Awakening...," he read out loud. That was where he and his allies had first entered the Dreamlands. "Looks like we're taking care of some crazed raccoons." He tucked the notice into his coat pocket and decided to head back to the infirmary to wait for the others.

The members of the group slowly began arriving at the designated spot at the front of the infirmary. Once everyone was gathered, August shared with them the bulletin that he picked up from the board. With a lack of anything to do and a need for some extra money, there was no way anyone could refuse. Thus, they ventured back into the Enchanted Wood until they reached the Staircase of Awakening where they indeed found the guy who posted the bulletin.

August approached the man and showed him the paper. "Ah, like, it's great your here, man," the guy said, his eyes scanning the party with a bit of paranoia. "Yeah, so like, you need to kill eight berserk raccoons in order to put a damper on the, like, problem. Yeah." He suddenly jumped into the bushes. "Here they, like, come man!" Suddenly, the group found themselves surrounded by slightly larger-than-normal raccoons. Some were normal while others seemed to be raging, foaming at the mouth. Those were the ones that needed to be taken out.

Aria stood next to August, looking over the situation carefully. She could tell, that there was a bag, something special. Not that the others could see it yet. She smiled, she always seemed to be useful, at least somehow.

[Layla] starts at [F-5].

"Since they're berserk, they'll be easy to predict," Layla commented as she positioned herself by a tree. In her hands were the new throwing weapons she had brought, ready to strike down the enemy. "We should be able to take them out easily in two hits each." With her new weapons, she wouldn't have to worry too much about aiming and could throw two at a time.

Loki starts at D4

Raccoons. Just another form of vermin. And pest control was well within a butler's duties. Loki tugged his gloves into position, ready to rain death and destruction on any pest that dared get in his way.

Aryn starts in D - 5.

Those crazy animals once more, they were quite a pain. Aryn readied herself, whether to pass out healing or to dish out pain was yet to be seen.

Player Phase 1!

August uses Spear!

August can now use Spear abilities!

August held his hand out and focused on the mist. There was a slight flash and a wooden spear appeared. He held onto it with both hands and entered a battle stance. It was crazy, but he was starting to get used to this constant switching of weapons. In his mind, he figured the mist that was constantly surrounding him was his weapon, which coincidentally happened to have the potential to turn into a multitude of weapons. As he continued to battle, he was learning more and more. It was quite the thrilling experience. In this battle, he'd make sure those raccoons got a face full of spear.

August waits.

Loki moves to D3

The closest raccoon was foaming at the mouth, clearly rabid. Loki stepped forward, and slapped the vermin soundly across the muzzle, not holding back in the least. The pest fell, and Loki turned, his face cool and undisturbed, looking for his next victim.

Loki attacks Tail! Two hits! 14 dmg each!

Realizing they were surrounded, Layla quickly took a look at their surroundings. If any of those things reached her, she would be in for a beating. Seeing a good spot for herself, Layla launched two of her leaves at a raccoon before dashing over to a spot near the now dead creature.

[Layla] attacks [Monocle]. 12 ATK DMG. 2 hits.

[Layla] moves to [E-3].

Aryn moves to B-5

Seeing the others attack and bring down two of their foes easily, Aryn decided they probably wouldn't need her help for now. The knight unsheathed her new sword and leveled at a particular raccoon as stalked towards it. "You're mine."

The blade whistled as it cut through the air, certainly not like her old, worn out sword, and cut through the animal without any difficulty. Oh, this was much better, and Aryn was happy with the sword.

Aryn attacks Furr! 12 Int damage.

Ling uses Cloak of Shadows on Ling. Ling is protected from negative status effects
MP: 18/30

Ling stood in place, eyes darting from one direction to another, waiting for the racoons to attack. While he was waiting, his shadow slowly shrunk back toward him then climbing up and wrapping itself around him, making it seem almost like clothing.

Ling waits
