Re: Tales of Alidaire: The Corruption Disc 2
The trickster continued to lean on air, smiling to himself with a particular gleam in his eye. The others seemed a bit clueless as to what he asked, but at least two of them responded. That was just fine. Today was just fine. Maybe just his morning though, he realized as he heard Valincar speak of heading into the forest. Peter Rabbit would be there he knew, waiting to take on the darkness.
Annon's arms fell back to his sides as he stood straight again. Something just wasn't right, he was sure, something that wasn't the dying trees or the fact that Zero hadn't awakened. Touching the little flower he'd received, he remembered the flower girl, and the way she said things that his mind caught on like a hook catches on a sleeve. He shook his head to shoo the feelings away.
"We strike at dawn?" He asked, despite it being well past dawn.

Re: Tales of Alidaire: The Corruption Disc 2
The trees seemed to cry as morning approached, granting them the sunlight they so desperately needed. They groaned, as if sick, as if dying. Lily could feel the nature around her slowly decaying. This newly-found sense of nature surprised her, she did not expect to have developed such an affinity for her surroundings. The purple-haired archer leaned against one of the more healthy-looking trees and placed her hands on it. She wanted to feel what the tree was feeling. Was it truly healthy among its sickly brothers and sisters? No. It wasn't. A faint presence could be felt from the tree Lily touched. She could hardly make out individual presences, but the distinction was enough.
"There isn't a tree in sight as healthy-looking as you are," Lily murmured quietly, stroking the bark of the tree solemnly. "But even you are just as sick as any other." Lily forced back her tears, refusing to let them fall. "How is it that I can feel your presence, oh elderly one? Have I become closer to nature without realizing it? Is this how the magic of this world is affecting me?" So many questions piled into Lily's head, it was almost overwhelming.
When they first arrived at the village, Lily was so surprised to see how much of an effect the curse was having, not only on the people, but the land and its surroundings. The situation is bad, and it is getting worse with each passing moment. Valincar, he probably could tell. Sonia too. The three of them were the most attuned to nature in comparison to the rest of the group. Only they could really understand the true depth of this tragedy waiting to happen.
With a sharp intake of breath, Lily opened her eyes and threw herself at the road, running towards the party's designated meeting point, a new determination rising up within her.

Re: Tales of Alidaire: The Corruption Disc 2
It was truly horrifying to see what had happened to this place. Rosetta slowly reopened her eyes to gaze at the tree she was touching. Even if the Julia girl hadn't asked for their help, she would have probably found a way to convince her party to do so anyway. It was truly a sin to allow such beauty to go to waste like this. This forest had nothing nothing wrong to deserve such treatment.
The hand pressing against the tree trunk pressed it fingerpads harder against the rough wood. Whatever this virus was, Rosetta would not forgive it. The chances of it spreading into the world outside of this place made her almost nauseous. Eyes sharpening in determination, the fencer removed her palm from the tree, leaving a red smear of blood. She stared at it, expression unreadable before turning away.
From what she remembered, Valincar had said to meet up at the northern exit. Tapping the hilt of her rapier, she nodded to herself and began to head toward it. Along the way, she ended up passing by a shop. Taking a look inside, she noted the lack of weaponry for herself. She would have checked the armory. if there had been one. Seeing as how there was nothing left for her to do, Rosetta continued to make her way toward the northern exit.
Soon enough, the figures of her companions came into view and Rosetta quickened her pace. She wasn't too keen on being the one to hinder her companions.

Re: Tales of Alidaire: The Corruption Disc 2
Valincar offered a smile to Annon and pointed in the direction of the northern exit. "I do believe that is correct, good sir," he said boldly to the trickster. "We strike at dawn. Onwards with us!" With that, he began hovering quickly in the direction of the decided meeting place hoping Annon and Sonia would follow. If everyone was done with there shopping, it was time to get this mission underway.
The nightshade halted when he reached his group of waiting companions. Rosetta had made it there before him. Lily, too. She seemed quite distraught, but there was a blaze of determination in her eyes. Shadow seemed pretty pleased with something. Perhaps he had found something nice to buy. Annon and Sonia were most likely closing in behind him. But where were Czeslaw and Zero? Surely they were not still asleep. Then again, Julia wasn't around either.
"Hey you guys. Has anyone seen Julia around? I would have figured she'd be the first to make it here," Valincar asked.

Re: Tales of Alidaire: The Corruption Disc 2
Rosetta twitched at the girl's name but reigned in her irritation. If they were going to be working together, she would have to refrain from acting on any of her compulsions. Luckily, she was getting better at that.
"Shall we search for her?" the fencer inquired, hiding her distaste for the idea. Her eyes flickered over the group, noticing the absence of two of their members. "We could also wait, seeing as how not all of us are assembled." Personally, Rosetta just wanted to hurry up and get out there. If the situation truly was as urgent as it seemed, just standing around was wasting their time.
It was irritating, to say the least.

Re: Tales of Alidaire: The Corruption Disc 2
Zero opened her eyes long after everyone else had left the house. She rubbed her eyes and looked around. Light was shining through the windows, she could hear some people outside talking, and she seemed to be the only person left in the house. Everyone else was gone. It took Zero a moment to come to realization that she had overslept, and she quickly picked up her dagger and hurried off to find her companions. Hopefully they haven't left without her yet.
As Zero ran through the village toward the place where the group would most likely meet up at before departure, she caught the attention of a few of the villagers. Indeed with her clothing and how fast she was running, one might assume she was a thief trying to escape a pursuer. The Windwalker slowed down to a walk as she approached the group, doing her best to hide the fact that she was exhausted from the run.
"Sorry. I'm a bit late."

Re: Tales of Alidaire: The Corruption Disc 2
From out of the nearby woods came a figure that just so happened to be Julia, a solemn look upon her face. As she saw everyone, she forced a soft smile onto her face. "I do hope you haven't been waiting too long. I had some things to tend to. It's been a busy night...morning. Whatever you want to call it," she tried to explain, laughing slightly at the end.
"I don't think any of us have been here for too terribly long," Valincar spoke up, hovering towards her and gesturing to everyone. "Given the circumstances, we'd like to move out as soon as possible, if you would..."
"Of course. If you're all ready, follow me." With that, she lead the group out of town and into the decaying forest. The path must have been frequently used by the townspeople, for it was well taken care of. The plants were kept at bay and the ground was perfectly level. To each side rested shrubs and trees, some infected while others were awaiting their fate. As they traveled deeper, they could hear the cries and howls of wounded or infected monsters and animals. Several times, the party encountered people of the town, surely infected, just roaming about the foliage like zombies, searching for...something. What that something was could have been anyone's guess.
Julia came to a halt abruptly and placed her arm out to block the others from advancing. She looked around quickly. At this point in the forest, nearly all the plants were obviously infected, their trunks leaking the disgusting substance that pooled around their roots. It was a sickening sight. "You all feel it right? Brace yourselves!" The ground rumbled only slightly, and the foliage around the group began to rustle. Onto the path emerged several treants, their faces in the bark a disturbing sight of anguish. They filled the air with their terrible moans. Two humans stepped out alongside them, warriors by the looks of it.
"M-Malvine....d-dearest Malvine....join Malvine...," one mumbled, a man. His eyes were vacant and milky as if he were blind.
"She...awaits..." the other human, a woman, spoke.
"It may sound cruel, but there's no salvation for them right now. End them," Julia called out to the group, entering a battle stance. "Their only goal is to infect us; we have to stay sharp!"
At that, the enemies prepared themselves to launch their assault.

Re: Tales of Alidaire: The Corruption Disc 2
Sonia starts at I3!
As the trees began to turn on them and the infected soldiers stepped into place, Sonia was well prepared in an instant. She hadn't so much as put the staff she had gotten down and for good reason. With where they were currently, this was the only kind of situation to expect. Raising the radiant scepter, she readied a spell or two, aiming for the male soldier first. Though the thought did occur for a moment... what if she didn't have enough power to kill him quickly. Looking over to the Windwalker, Sonia remembered she had an ability to boost speed. It would benefit the summoner greatly in this battle.
"Z... Z.... Zero... think you could give me a boost?"

Lily starts at I-9
Sensing and seeing the presence of the infected, Lily immediately dashed through an opening in the tree line and hid herself from view behind the trees. Then, being the expert climber that she was, ran up the nearest tree, grabbing onto a branch and swinging herself up onto it. There she strung her bow and prepared to snipe the shit out of the enemy ranks.
Though she did feel hesitation. Not enough to deter her from her duty, but enough to cause her distress. Lily couldn't bring herself to end the life of a human being. She would avoid attacking them as much as possible. Hostile or not, these humans did not choose their fate. Infected as they were, as zombies, they could only cause pain for others.
"You make it sound easy," Lily muttered under her breath, looking towards where Julia was.

It was disgusting. Just looking at them was enough to send a shiver of unease through her body but Rosetta quickly calmed herself, pushing back the disgust. What mattered now was getting the source of the infection and if it meant getting rid of all those who obstructed them, then so be it. She would show no mercy do these beings, no matter how pitiful they were.
[Rosetta] starts at [H-6].
First, they would have to take care of the most dangerous of the entities. Unfortunately, all of them seemed dangerous. Not to mention going anywhere near them seemed like an awful idea. Still, looking at the decaying animate trees, they seemed vulnerable to fire. She would try it out and see.

Annon starts in H - 7.
Annon's mood had improved over the walk through the dying forest, though it merely seemed as if he was his normally cheery self. He grinned at the infected opponents ahead of the group, feeling giddy for some reason. He cracked his knuckles and twisted and turned his head to work out what kinks there were. Striking a pose, he stabbed a spidery finger towards the enemies. "Fear not for we strike at you lot. Hehe . . . heheehahaha!" The trickster covered his mouth quickly, stifling the little bursts of laughter, his shoulders still shaking.

Zero starts at cell H-4
The Windwalker grinned, completely ignoring Sonia's request. Now this woman was speaking her language. 'Kill them all' she said, just the thought of that brought a malicious smile to Zero's face. The mental image of these people being cut open, and their blood staining the ground crimson. It gave her such an exhilarating feeling, and Zero couldn't wait to slice their flesh open and remove their internal organs one by one.
"Yes, slaughter them all." Zero said out loud.

Shadow starts at Cell H2.
Malvine seemed to be worse than he thought it would be. Shadow unsheathed his two slashers, gaze fixated on their enemies--four Treants and two common soldiers, all in advanced states of infection. Getting in close-quarters combat with them would be deplorable, so he ought to rely on ranged techniques while their numbers were intact. With their allies positioning themselves before they first struck, the Ombre Skillblade slipped through the trees, arriving next to the Nightshade. Recklessness would surely yield negative results.
He awaited.

Czeslaw starts at I4.
It happened again. Another mixture of blurry, fleshy colored swirls corrupted Czeslaw's eyesight. Everything within his scope of vision seemed to grow less and less realistic as he continued onward. Despite his nearly eradicated senses, the shift his sight experienced (a verdant green to a sickly, unnatural color - something of the sort) warned him of the danger that surrounded his immediate person.
Amidst the decaying landscape, Czeslaw spotted a variety of mobile swirls and swishes, some were more humane - most likely his comrades - while others garnered a villainous and ill-meant aura, which accented their rigid and bark-like appearance. "Treants? They must be... Though something is amiss..." He squinted his eyes, attempting to restore his vision in order to get a clearer look. Though the strain caused no cure - worsening his state of being, even.
Placing a cold palm on his equally as chilling forehead, Czeslaw sighed. "I need to get some rest... Surely this sickly atmosphere is causing me additional health problems..." Despite his reluctance to continue onward, his inexplicable loyalty to the party told him to do otherwise. Groggily unsheathing his dulling blade, he prepared for combat.

Valincar casts Translucence on Rosetta! Affects Julia and Annon! [Bestows Intangible]
MP: 54/70
Valincar analyzed the enemies. The front line was the infected soldiers who looked like they'd never use magic in their lives. The treants were another question, for they were magical creatures, but in their messed up condition, would they rely upon brute strength alone? It was worth the risk. Valincar turned to face Rosetta. "A gift," he said with a smile, waving his hand causing a veil of energy to shroud the woman and those next to her. As the veil settled, those affected became see-through as if they were ghosts. Now the soldiers wouldn't be able to hurt them. He was still worried about the treants though.
Valincar waits.
Julia initiates Paradise! (1/2)
Julia offered no thanks to the phantom, but did give him a bow of gratitude. It seemed as though she were focused on the hand movements she was making. The tips of her fingers glowed with ethereal light and she began carving a massive mural all around her, turning to complete on drawing, only to twist back to form another. It was a detailed glyph like the one she drew at the beginning of the battle they had with her--it was a glyph of a beautiful garden with tall healthy trees and smooth-flowing, murmuring rivers. Animals were drawn hiding in the shrubs she created. The whole thing pulsed with energy, waiting to be released.
Julia waits.

Re: Tales of Alidaire: The Corruption Disc 2
Rosetta nodded at the nightshade in thanks before unsheathing her rapier from its bindings. Beside her, the glyphographer was creating the picture she had drawn when they battled. Except this time, it wouldn't affect her alone. Though Rosetta felt no trust toward the girl, it was good to know they had another capable fighter on their side.
Speaking of capable fighters, Rosetta could not help but look back. Ever since the acolyte had returned from his plight in the laboratory, he had changed. She had not been able to see to his well-being as well as she would have liked, having left it to Lily, but now it seemed as if Lily wouldn't be enough. Still, Rosetta couldn't become distracted. Maybe after this, they could have a little talk.
Eyes flashing, Rosetta rushed over to the nearest soldier.
[Rosetta] moves to [E-6].
Though she was unsure as to what they were capable of, Valincar had cast his magic on her for a reason and Rosetta would use it to her advantage. The soldiers at the very least seemed safe to attack now that she was immune to physical attacks. Drawing back her rapier, she slashed at the soldier twice with it before readying herself for any counterattack.
[Rosetta] attacks [Alice]. 25 ATK DMG. 2 hits.

Lily casts Lock-On! All abilities and attacks now have infinite range for 3 turns.
Lily took a deep breath, ignoring the pungent smell of decay around her. She focused her energies to her eyes, enhancing her sight to the maximum level, which allowed her to focus in on a target and, essentially, lock onto them and examine every move they took. These treants...they were indeed hostile, but Lily did not sense anything different about them than the ordinary, decaying trees. Regardless, it was dangerous to get too close, so Lily stayed back in her tree and observed for now.

Annon moves to G-6.
Annon casts Pick A Card [-10 MP] on Alice! Random negative status effect afflicted! What'll it be? We don't know!
Double Trouble is activated! The whole enemy party could also be affected!
In the middle of rolling up his sleeves, Annon paused as his form became less than corporeal. His grin grew wider, impossibly, and the trickster twirled a bit to see if his feet would disappear into wispy clouds. Seeing that they didn't, he shrugged and followed after Rosetta. Waving his arms eerily, he gave a mocking moan to the soldiers ahead. "OooooooOOOoo! What dooo we have heeere?"
Unable to keep the stupid joke going, he cackled loudly and spread the familiar, ancient, and yellowed cards in a wide semicircle in the fetid air. Annon snatched one out of the arrangement and flung it at the infected woman, still snickering when it exploded into a cloud of yellow dust. This time though, it did something new. As the cloud settled, it began to spread to the other enemies as well. "Curious." Annon remarked, almost sneering.

Zero moves to cell J-4
As much as Zero would liked to have decapitated the soldiers herself, as soon as she cleared her head of the bloodthirsty thoughts she worried it may not be such a good idea. As skilled at inflicting damage as she may be, the armor the soldiers wore seemed a bit difficult to cut through with her rather small weapon. She doesn't have much of a choice, Valincar and Sonia were really the only two on their team capable of inflicting severe magic damage. The Windwalker backed up, laughing inwardly at the thought that she might actually have to sit out this time.
"Here."

With the windwalker's reflex boosting wind at her side, the summoner nodded before raising her staff once again. Not even having to move, she began to focus in on the infected man, he would not be standing after this; One less enemy to infect the party with whatever this curse was. Bringing her staff in front of her with a sweeping motion, the light from the weapon began to gather at the tip. As she brought it back around to her body five orbs of light the exact color that radiated from the staff appeared in front of her. As she pointed the weapon at her target, the orbs fired off, leaving five more in their place. These too fired off at her target as soon as the previous ones had made their mark.

Shadow moves to G3 (H2 - G2).
He shifted forward, cautious to not touch the decaying vegetation surrounding him as he focused a small amount of his body Mana into his hand. With a quick, almost dismissing wave of that hand, the accumulated energy was forced to expand into a wave with a red hue to it which increased his strength--not by an immensely notorious amount, but enough to ensure his physical attacks would be deadlier. Not wanting to get in the middle of the immediate crossfire, he stayed on this spot, waiting.

{d} - Decaying Tree
Valincar moves to D3.
With but the picking of a card, the entire opposition was attacking each other. Valincar had to scratch his head at that one, unsure of what to do now. He figured they had this one in the bag, and that now they wouldn't have to be stressed, but he was sure it wouldn't last for ever. He hovered forwards, hands clasped together and eyes closed. Focusing, he created a cloud of dark energy in front of him, and with a wave of his hand, sent the thing flying towards one of the infected treants, absorbing the remainder of the energy to bolster his own strength. Pretty reluctant to touch one of those things....maybe I should just stick with magic for this one, Valincar thought, looking at the disgusting bodies of the treants.

The glyph was complete, and with a snap of Julia's fingers, the thing expanded to encompass all of those who aiding her, save the mesmerized enemies. Everyone became shrouded in the light for a moment as the glyph passed through them. As long as it remained, they would constantly be healed and their mana would be restored based solely on Julia's ability to control magic. "Almost seems like it wasn't worth the trouble," she murmured to herself. Then again, battles were unpredictable, so it was a nice precaution.

Re: Tales of Alidaire: The Corruption Disc 2
This was going far too easily. Rosetta wasn't sure if she was pleased by this or not. Still, she wasn't going to look a gift horse in the mouth. It was best to take good fortune when it came before everything became much, much harder. Seeing as how the summoner could easily take care of the infected humans, Rosetta turned away from the one she was attacking and sidestepped over to the mesmerized tree.
[Rosetta] moves to [D-6].
Seeing as how it was a tree, Rosetta debated on whether or not to set it on fire. She was unsure as to what might happen if she were to attack the tree, however, she really wasn't in the mood to sit around and do nothing for the rest of the battle. It was an annoyance when enemies had defenses against physical attacks. But with Valincar's gift, she would be fine. Her eyes flashed.
She would take that chance.
[Rosetta] uses Blazing Roar on [Bough]. 30 Fire ATK DMG. 3 hits.

Re: Tales of Alidaire: The Corruption Disc 2
Lily peered through the tree trunks at the misfit group of treants and the last standing soldier. Were they...attacking each other? It certainly seemed like it. If Lily remembered correctly, there was no one in their group that could pull off such a thing. But then again, the trickster seemed to be hiding something, could it have been his power? Maybe. Probably. Lily would have to look into it more.
"That was one helluva move," Lily murmured to herself. She didn't want to attract the attention of the enemies, so she merely cocked an arrow to her bow and took aim. There was one tree with hardly any durability left. She would want to focus on that one. But wait...her allies could handle that one tree, and she had plenty of time to prepare for more fighting.
Lily lowered her bow and stuck her arrow back into her quiver. There was something she wanted to try out. Closing her eyes and focusing on her mana, she remembered what her true elemental affinity was. If she could just alter her mana patterns, she could increase resistance to another element. Focusing hard, Lily began changing around her mana systems, growing more in tune with the fire element. It wouldn't be much, but she could increase her damage potential to these treants if she allocated affinity to that element.
...The fire element was Aster's affinity. The element that held the most destructive power.
Lily's focus broke, her hand forming a fist as she punched the decaying tree beside her, cracking the skin on her knuckles. Now was not the time to be thinking of such things. Shivering, though not from the cold, Lily allowed the fire mana to surround and engulf her, increasing her powers.
Just a little bit.
Lily casts Flare Up! Element Chosen is Fire! 20% Resist Fire gained! All attacks with the Fire Element get a 10% boost!

Re: Tales of Alidaire: The Corruption Disc 2
Shadow moves to E3 (G3 - F3 - E3).
The Ombre Skillblade looked in slight awe as Annon's power spread chaos among the opposing ranks, reducing their instinctual organization to nothing--they were all attacking each other. Despite that, definitely did not want to close enough to them, but fortunately his weapons of choice were designed to be ranged. Although not having a vast reach, it was enough to slash at the Infected Soldier, or so Shadow calculated. As the Nightshade moved past him to cast his magic on one of the deteriorated Treants, he did so too, sending both of his slashers with increased strength at the female. They connected, blades hopefully spreading their detrimental effects to his target as they returned to him, and, with a skillful maneuver, Shadow quickly sent them back at different angles to slash at the soldier again. With this, he caught his slashers for the second time, finished with his assault.
Shadow attacks Alice! 30 Damage, 30 Damage. Chance of Severe Poison, Chance of Weak, Chance of Seal!
