The only ninja to survive their leader's rage was the stopped ninja at the edge of the battlefield. And even then, he took massive damage, he wasn't sure if he would be able to steal from the idiot. Gritting his teeth he hoped he was quick enough to grab something before the final enemy fell.

Rei stared at the giant dragon with a smile on her face, it was capable of soemthing like this. Rei was very suprised, as well as amazed at what just happened, and a bit frightened. She carefully made a mental note of not getting on their leader's bad side, and held up her staff.

"Now now Valkner, don't get angry. It's bad for your health." Rei said, "Here, let me fix you up a bit."

A bright ray of light shone on the dragon. The area in which the light shone on became nice and warm, rejuvinating the dragon.

The ninja wasn't getting away before he could do something this battle, rushing over to him the thief tapped his shoulder. Just as the thief turned to look, Quinn grabbed him, holding him still, reaching forward and making a cut along the clothing. He fished around for a second, looking for an item, hopefully his effort wouldn't be in vain

Flashing a quick smile at the dragon she healed earlier, Rei turned to the last remaining enemy. Like twice before, a sphere of blinding light formed at the tip of her staff, whichw as then launched at the ninja. Although the blast itself missed, the explosion itself managed to hit the ninja anyway.

Kirin stomped forward, making sand fly everywhere with each heavy foot that hit the ground. Careful to avoid her allies, Kirin swung her backside around, her bladed tail lashing through the air and slicing apart the sand ninja's outfit along with his flesh. Blood flew off of Kirin's tail as she took a step back from Oni in order to observe the damage she had done to him. The sand ninja was just about finished.

Valkner's voice flooded into the heads of his allies, as was his way of contacting them when in dragon form. "Even if we leave him alone now, this ninja will die on his own. Let's get ready to move on now. Surely there will be other ninjas on their way here. We cannot stay here much longer."

The last sand ninja finally succumbed to his wounds and fell to the ground, a lifeless corpse left there by the party's overwhelming power. Kirin eyes the pitiful corpse, seeing the result of their efforts. Very soon, this will all be at an end. The sand ninja's rein of terror and bloodshed would soon be over. Or so she hoped. Her powers drained, Kirin allowed Valkner to regain control of his body as it slowly reverted to his human form. Blood-red scales turned into pale skin, and a bald skull sprouted long, black hair. Valkner's eyes returned to their original size and color, and his sharp fangs and claws shrunk considerably.

Within a few minutes, Valkner had turned back to his human form completely. He stumbled a little bit, attempting to regain his balance on two legs instead of four. Valkner managed to stabilize for long enough to look around at the others. His own wounds had disappeared after he transformed back into his human form, but anyone else who was wounded during battle still had them. Namely Cornelia.

Valkner paused for a moment before walking over to Cornelia, tearing up a part of his shirt sleeve. "Here, let me take care of that," he said gently, already wrapping up the wound with the torn cloth, "we can't have any open wounds, if it gets infected then you're as good as dead. Especially in this desert."

"Oh, Valkner, dear, you're very charming and helpful," Cornelia said, allowing him to tend to her wound whilst putting her tome behind her. "But this might not be the best time. Consider our surroundings." She gestured to the immediate vicinity. They were right in the middle of enemy territory. What if they were ambushed? Then again, she really didn't care for getting an infected injury. She had seen what that could result in and a sickened look appeared on her face. A change of heart.

"On second thought, I have no complaints," she said suddenly, letting loose a nervous laugh. "Got to make sure we're all healthy and ready to continue on...hee hee..." She closed her eyes and ignored any looks she might have received.

Quinn smiled as he pulled away from the dying ninja, a decent sum of Rupees in his hand. He had actually found something of use to the party that would only help once they got out of this damned place. Smirking he trotted over to Ange, flashing a confident smile as he finally came to a stop next to her

"See that Ange? Pretty decent cash for a lackey here."

Angela readjusted her gloves, raising an eyebrow at Quinn. She glanced down at his captured bounty and considered its usefulness. Though it wasn't much, it meant more supplies that they would be able to acquire later--provided they survived this assault of course. She waved a hand slightly to acknowledge his comment before moving on to examine her teammates. Valkner appeared to be unhurt after reverting to his human form, and Cornelia had a small cut. She would be fine.

Rei shook the sand out of her hair and set her odd looking staff down against a wall then leaned her back against said wall. She glanced around the place, now with all the sand ninjas in the vicinity rather dead. Everyone seemed to be in good condition and getting along with each other rather well. It made Rei feel left out, she never really got to know any of these people aside from their names. But when she noticed that Cornelia was slightly injured, Rei picked up her staff again and ran toward Valkner and Cornelia.

"I can help a bit with that" Rei said and held her staff upright in front of her.

A ray of light shot down from the sky, going through the ceiling as if it were glass, and completely enveloped Cornelia. Within a few seconds Cornelia's wounds began to close, although very slowly. It would still be a while before the wound fully healed, but the rate of healing is still much faster than it would be normally.

"Oh," Valkner looked up, just as Rei had come over to them. He beamed at her and said, "Great, now we won't have to worry about Cornelia's wound." Valkner backed off a bit, gaining distance from Rei and Cornelia in order to observe everyone as a whole. The battle didn't seem to take away much of the group's stamina. As they were, the party could probably keep moving. By the time they encountered more sand ninjas, then they would have already recovered their energy.

With that in mind, Valkner took a look around the dome-like room. In particular he looked at any exits out of the room. He knew about the place where they entered, but it was slightly more difficult to locate the exit. The walls all looked the same to him.

"There doesn't seem to be a clear way out of this room besides the way we came in. Did we miss a turn?" Valkner asked aloud, mostly to himself, but immediately shook his head, "No, that's not possible. My nose always picks the right path, it's never once failed me. So then, where is the exit?"

Valkner paused for a moment, thinking carefully about the base. They needed to go deeper inside, but his senses told him this was the right way. So then, there must be a secret entrance somewhere. Destroying the building would not be a smart move, since they were already deep under the ground. A single crack in the architecture would cause the entire base to cave in under the heavy pressure of the rock.

"Wait a minute..." Valkner knelt down in the sand, picking up some of the grains in his hands. The sand ninjas could move around underneath the sand. So in essence, they could use the sand to get around the entire base...maybe. There was too much Valkner did not know about sand ninjas and their base, he couldn't be certain.

"I think I know the way forward, but I'm going to need everyone's help," Valkner told the others, "I believe that the way forward is actually underneath the sand!"

Rei of course, being well, Rei, was quite eager to help. Although, looking at the sand she heisitated. She was unsure of where to start, but more importantly, she didn't want even more sand to get caught in her hair and eyes and of course her clothes. It was already a pain to deal with during the fight, and now she has to do this again? It was slowly starting to get on her nerves, but she kept a smile on her face still.

The young woman then held the staff up, using it as a focus to direct her magic and causing small gusts of wind to blow aside the sand. It wasn't exactly the fastest way to get though, her explosive orb of light would be much more effective, but it was the most efficient way if Rei didn't want to attract uneccessary attention to the group. And due to her lack of control of the wind element, some of the sand picked up by the wind flew in random directions, much of it scattered all over Rei.

"Valkner, when this is all over you owe me a hairbrush once we get out of this place. Kay? Good." Rei said still smiling.

Cornelia shied away from both Valkner and Rei until she was off by herself. Seeing Rei make a huge mess by blowing sand about the place wildly wasn't something she wanted to be a part of. "Thank you for the healing, Rei, and you're doing a great job at clearing that sand!" Cornelia cheered from a distance, displaying a nervous smile. It was a shame she, herself, could not merely illusion the sand away. Perhaps it was something she could take into account in the future?

The illusionist pulled out her tome and knelt down to the ground, sticking the end of it in the sand. It was a very bad shovel. Cornelia grimaced and sighed, looking around. "Think Rei has a handle on this?" she asked aloud to no one in particular.

"Not amused eh Ange? Oh well..."

The thief shoved the rupees into a pouch at his side with a sigh, kinda disappointed that all he received from his friend was a nod. But he wouldn't let it get him down, though it was beginning to plague his mind. Instead he chose to focus on the matter at hand, the exit.

Valkner claimed that it must have been below the party, but not many of the group could actually do something to help. Looking over at the only person doing anything he quickly covered his eyes as sand blew into his face. Wiping it away he glared at the younger girl for a moment before straightening. They would just have to deal with it and wait...

He waited ten seconds.

"UGH! We'll be here all day..."

Quinn groaned in his head, throwing another small glare at the girl who was carelessly pushing the sand around. Why with how poorly she was doing they would be ambushed and killed before she even got a minor amount of work done.

"Better help out..."

He groaned again, suddenly snapping and watching a rather small portal open up in the sand. Perfect. Moving his hand that he had snapped with down, the portal started to sink into the sand, each tiny dune following it as it buried its way down slowly. It wasn't much, but it was sure going to make things go a lot quicker.

Angela stood back away from the rest as she watched their attempts to clear the sand . . . her nose wrinkled when she realized they'd be here all day at this rate. She looked over at their leader, considering his dragon form and how easily he could dig with it.

Deciding she'd rather not be buried in the process, the healer sighed. She kneeled on the gritty ground, placing her palms flat down, and concentrated. Traces of life still lingered in the nearby bodies, but no heartbeats. She shut her eyes, searching for further clues. Rei's magic wind and Quinn's portals shifted the bloody sand, and Angela found that she could follow the stained grains as they flowed and settled. "Hmm." Strange, but they didn't flow in any particular direc--"There!" Westward.

Angela stood, breaking her concentration, and strode over to Quinn, grabbing his arm and dragging him over to the west wall. She pointed at a spot near their feet. "Here." She tried to impress upon him the importance of it by narrowing her eyes and releasing her hold on his arm.

Valkner himself was up against the far wall, reaching his hands down under the sand as far as he could get them. He was trying to feel some sort of opening underneath the sand that would lead into another area. His nose wasn't wrong in telling him to dig, but it was hard to sense just were to start digging.

After awhile of attempting to find the exit, Valkner looked up at the others. Cornelia wasn't doing much, not surprising. She didn't seem to be built for this kind of work. Rei was blowing sand around with her magic, but Angela seemed to be doing something more interesting. Valkner watched as Angela pointed Quinn in a direction up against the wall. Had she figured it out?

Valkner stood up, brushing sand off oh his clothes and walking closer to Rei and Cornelia. "I think Angela got a clue, let's go over an help," Valkner said to them, already rushing over to Angela and Quinn.

"Angela, Quinn, did you find something good?" Valkner immediately asked as soon as he got within earshot.

Kaleidoscope watched in solitude as the rest of the party members manipulated the sand. From the cold, lifeless darkness of his hood, his eyes gazed directly at the palm of his hand, in which ten lumps of flesh were held. As a chilling, minuscule stream of slobber emitted from his agape maw, a long, pale tongue slowly slithered out of one of the hood's few openings. The serpentine tongue wrapped itself around the fingertips, feebly returning back into the hood with haste.

"Ug doepro axalo whorpropt, welthropt..." He murmured to himself as mixed droplets of blood and spit cascaded from his hood, staining his garments a crimson red. "...Iltupp, cluor..." He continued, rambling on in some demonic dialect, "...doaxa-flaxaino... wheucts eb zo oaxalth! Fobelo ug gned dit, zis saxact ug'lo iggick an wirr clumfro axatep ug. Ug'rr klevor bel yeep ribo axas zo molupp oaxalth ug revo subbecaxatos ug!" A sated tone overcame his body, and with it, his still arms dropped to his side. From these stilled, pale, clothed arms, stained of crimson red gently tricked down from shoulders to palms.

"Wha?"

Quinn was slightly confused as Angela grabbed him, his focus breaking as he saw her gloved hand against his bare skin. However, his mind refocused almost immediately, a slight grin remaining as he reminded himself that she was still touching him. Eyeing the place she had kindly pointed out, he directed his hand over there, the portal digging down on the spot immediately.

"I think we've got it. Nice work Ange."

Angela had been about to respond to the dragon-shifter when the most peculiar of their teammates caught her eye. His acts were . . . intriguing, if not downright sinister. She arched an eyebrow, but thought no more of it when the thief spoke directly to her. With a compliment no less. Angela saw nothing above average about her work thus far. Her blue-green eyes only narrowed slightly in response.

But she turned back to their leader to give him a proper reply. "The sand flows here."

As Quinn worked on shifting the sand around where Angela had pointed to, the sand began to shift by itself even more, as if it were falling into a hole beneath the sand. Eventually, the sand had cleared enough so that a small opening could be seen from the surface. One by one, the party members followed Valkner down the sand and into the small hole. Valkner could now smell their destination with utmost confidence.

The party dropped down into a large, square room that was surrounded by walls of thick steel. A door on the other side of the room was left slightly open, so Valkner led the party into the next room, which was not full of sand like the last one. In fact, it wasn't even filled with sand ninjas ready to tear out their throat. It was actually filled with a group of men wearing white coats, scientists. There were two metal tables that the scientist blocked from the party's view, but Valkner could smell two powerful characters among the group.

"Well, well," one of the scientists said, glaring at the party, "It seems that we have some unwelcome guests in our lab."

"Perhaps we should use that?" another scientist suggested, pointing to the left table. The other scientists showed different reactions to this. Some of them were in agreement, others not.

"There's the problem with that obeying our orders. It won't do anything we tell it to," one of the scientists who was against the idea said. Another scientist quickly interjected.

"We don't have to worry about that. We can just use some of that medicine that we used on that other one on this one."

"Hey," Valkner growled, grabbing the attention of the scientists, "You'd better not be thinking you can just get away from us." After what Valkner said, the scientists exchanged glances, and then began quickly working on the left table. A high-pitched and terrible screech pierced the air, causing Valkner to flinch, but the screaming was soon cut off.

The scientists moved away from the table they had surrounded, and a small, green-haired girl sat up on the table, her eyes downcast. This girl had an enormous, grey shell for an arm, a mutation unlike anything Valkner had seen before.

"What...in the world?" Valkner's face contorted with rage, his emotions boiling. "What have you done?!" Valkner roared.
