Erix starts in cell F2!

Erix stopped as more of the earth-colored creatures appeared in their path. As before, they were sure to be a breeze to defeat...but something didn't feel quite right. He thought for a moment that maybe it was their formation, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it...

"You feel them too, don't you?" the woman asked, looking at her partner. There was definitely something more here than met the eye. It was sure to be a more difficult battle than the last. However, the innate curiosity she possessed seemed to overtake her. What was it that they weren't seeing? Was it even possible for something else to be there besides the mandragoras? It seemed unlikely, but if both her and Erix were getting the same feeling, then they had best be on their guard.

"Let's finish this quickly," she stated simply before disappearing only to reappear behind the middle mandragora. "As if a wall of these pathetic creatures could stop us." Blood sprayed all over its fellow plant monsters as its own body was rent in two by what appeared to be multiple slashes. Avoiding the aerial acrobatics, the woman turned around and dashed quickly to her previous position. "Remember that they were the ones who wanted to play. I don't feel any regrets, but they should be."

To the woman's question, Erix simply nodded. There was certainly more than met their naked eyes. The two made their approach, the woman being a fair bit faster than himself, and Erix prepared his tome to assist the woman in taking down the little plant-creatures.

Looking to intercept the mandragora that was approaching, she dashed up next to it fearlessly. These things were proving to be more of nuisances than anything else. She closed her eyes and gripped the hilt of her weapon tightly before slashing the area next to her wildly, almost as if she weren't aiming at all. Yet, upon opening her eyes and looking down, all she saw was a chopped mass of vegetable.

The woman hissed in pain as the black wolf literally came out of nowhere to attack her with its sharp claws. "Now we know what was hiding from us...damn," she grunted and looked at her bleeding wound. She wasn't one to just take that kind of treatment. With no hesitation, she plunged her katana down into the beast and pulled it out to deliver two additional deft slashes to the stealthy creature. It was definitely more of a threat than the mandragora, but now that it was free of its cover, she could unleash her full fury upon it.

The wolf had unleashed a strange howl that sent shivers down her spine. Her body was shaking violently and she fell to her knees, holding herself. She felt completely helpless before its hungry gaze. It was as if all her strength had left her for that single moment. There was just nothing she could do but let the wolf do what it wished to her. There was no point in trying to fight back. Until she could find her strength, she would merely have to wait it out.

Erix uses the item Herb on himself.

Erix began to feel weak as the wolf attacked again, using its teeth in a powerful bite. He knew he couldn't take much more; if he tried, he may well be done for.
He glanced back at the woman, who had fallen to her knees as the other wolf howled fiercely. His first instinct was to go to her aid, but he figured that the smart thing to do would be to take care of the threat right in front of his face. If he tried anything else, he may well be taken down. He retrieved an herb he had obtained from the previous battle and used it in an attempt to heal himself.

The woman let out a deep breath as she gazed at the incapacitated threats on the ground, now food for the other scavengers of the plains. She turned her back on them and walked over to Erix, gripping him gently by the arm. "Are you all right? Wasn't expecting an ambush," she asked in concern. The guy looked a little worse for wear; the wolf really did a number on him. They had just come out of nowhere. How was it possible? She glanced at the one he had scorched. The fur. It was so black. They weren't even trying to hide--they had been hiding in plain sight. Crafty.

"Are you going to be all right to move on? The closer we get to the capitol, the safer we'll be...right?" she began assuringly, but faltered near the end. She wasn't sure what this world was like. She couldn't remember any of it. Common sense told her it would be safe, but was that truly the case?

Erix braced himself, leaning with his hands resting on his legs, completely exhausted. He swayed a bit, threatening to topple over at any moment, yet to the woman's question, he still responded, "Yeah, I'm fine. I'll be all right."
He stood up and inspected his cloak, which had a new rip in it, revealing the wound that had ceased its bleeding. The cloak upset him a bit, but it could have been much worse.
As she continued to speak, he said, "Creatures, typically..." He paused, catching his breath. "They typically don't like to be close...to areas that are highly populated by people, so yes...the closer we get to the capitol, the safer we'll probably be. I'll be good to continue on."

The woman could easily see how distressed Erix was. Since he had found her, they had already got caught up in two skirmishes. Were these monsters that desperate for prey? It irritated her to no end, but she hid her frustration and pointed east. In the distance, the immense capitol city of the country of Lumus could be seen. Large stone walls and towers surrounded the other buildings that composed the city within which remained to be unseen from such a distance. But those large walls were a sign of refuge for the weary duo. If they pressed onward, they would soon be safe.

"If you're ready to move on, let's do so. The longer we stay here, the higher the chance we'll get attacked again, and...it's probably best that we don't risk that," she said and reluctantly began pressing forward through the grass.

The pair treaded onward, but as they drew nearer and nearer to the city, it was obvious that something was wrong. The woman stopped in her tracks and put an arm out to stop her partner. She sniffed the air. "Do you smell it?" Her nose wiggled again slightly, taking in the scent. "Blood."

Erix hadn't noticed it at first, but when the woman brought it to his attention, the subtle yet undeniable scent of blood was indeed present. "I do smell it. That makes no sense..." he said, completing the thought in his mind, Unless, of course, something has happened within the walls...
"What should we do? Continue into the city?"

Quickly, she drew her weapon and pushed Erix to the ground as a large black mass fell from the sky. It was an enormous wolf similar to the two they had just fought, but its hulking body was much stronger. It had launched a bite at the woman, but she blocked it with her blade. She could smell blood on its rancid breath and see the crimson staining its teeth. It snapped and she fell to her knees before its raw strength, but gripped her sword that much more tightly. After a few seconds of struggling, the beast relented and leapt back, howling into the air before baring its fangs at the duo.

"Now. On your twos," she said to Erix as she entered a defensive stance with her weapon. She could see them. The bodies of dead...soldiers? They must have been from the city. Saw the monster getting too close and went out to stop it...only to wind up was food themselves. She couldn't look at them anymore and focused on the beast instead. She got the feeling it wasn't alone, just like in the last battle. "Stay alert," she advised her ally.

The beast was fairly powerful, but she deflected its rather meager blows easily and launched a trio of slashes with her blade. She held her ground.
