The woman quickly grabbed an herb from the depths of her kimono and downed it. She felt a lot of her pain dissipate, but looking at her wounds made her sick. This would keep her going for now, but she needed to have them desperately treated as soon as possible. "Damn...," was all she said as she watched the beast gulf down a piece of her torso flesh. She closed her eyes tightly and shook it off. So much for being a pushover.

Erix cast Blazing Rainfall! 7 Piercing Fire Dmg! (INT)

Erix became enraged as he watched the large wolf consume a piece of the woman's flesh. It was a feeling he had never experianced before; he felt as if he didn't care what happened to him, as long as these creatures perished. He flipped his tome to the very last page, where a hand-written spell was stained onto the page. The ink it was written with had bled, but the letters, unlike the words themselves, were somewhat clear. The words, on the other hand, were of no apparent language, not even of the language traditional spells were usually spoken.
Erix never thought he would ever find a need to resort to this spell, but in his enraged mindset didn't even think twice. He wanted to see the wolves burn. And burn they would.
Erix spoke the spell with a strange anger to his tone. It rolled from his tongue as if the language it was written was his first learned; as he finished, a stream of smoke rose swiftly from the hand he had raised slightly into the air. After mere moments, quite the show of lights began from above, as multicolored flames fell from the sky. As they approached the earth, their incredible heat could be felt, the temperature increasing as the flames closed in. With incredible force, some of the flames struck the two beasts, while others fell to the ground, causing large rings of black to be burned into the grass.

The beast snarled and its mouth contorted into something of a grin. It had the woman on the ropes. There was no way she could last for too much longer. It reared up and then came down quickly, sinking one of its fangs into the woman's shoulder. It took hold of her body with its front legs and retracted the solitary fang before releasing her and placing all four legs firmly on the ground. It was disappointed at the lack of blood that flowed from the wound.

It was enough to silence the smaller threat, but the larger one was still going at it. "I say we wipe the cocky grin off this thing's ugly face," she added and launched into another mad flurry of slashes from her blade. It was like a contest of who could make more scars on the other.

It disappeared. It was as if the beast had never been there. The shadows in the surrounding area seemed to quiver in fright, however. From out of nowhere, the beast emerged and tackled the woman to the ground, but miscalculated the attack causing it to roll across the ground and disappear again. It was mere seconds before it emerged from behind Erix and slashed at his back, swing around him to slice his legs. Once in front of the mage, the wolf lunged and unleashed a large bite to his side before disappearing once more and reappearing in front of the woman who had managed to stand back up again.

The beast was getting desperate. Pulling out its best moves as if its life depended on it. The woman brushed some grass off of her torn and bloodied garments being careful not to touch her wounds to hard. They already burned with immense pain, but the adrenaline coursing through her body helped to numb it. She launched a trio of slashes at the wounded beast. "It will fall soon. We just have to hang in there," she said assuringly.

The wolf's attack was vicious and powerful, and left Erix on the ground in a state of shock and a growing puddle of blood. Using all his might, he pushed himself off the ground, putting some distance between himself and the beast. He retrieved an herb from an internal pocket of his cloak in an attempt to keep himself moving.

Even though it had only been minutes into the fight, it felt like she had been exchanging blows with the beast for an eternity. "Suck it up and die already," she spat as her blade sliced into the creature again and again, her movements and strokes executed to perfection. Her own breathing was getting heavy and the pain in her torso was searing. She clutched at her wounds and groaned; she was losing a lot of blood.

Finally. "Your time is up," the woman spoke as she dealt three slashes to the beast once more. This time, it wouldn't be responding to the attack. She was sure to put all her power into the finishing blows, aiming to keep this wolf down for good. For whatever reason it had chosen to attack this night, she was sure it would regret it now.

It was over. With that last blow, it had to be. It hadn't even been putting up as much of a fight as it previously had. If the wolf wasn't done for now...no, there was no doubt.

The woman kicked at the body of the fallen beast to make sure it would not be getting back up. She received no response just as expected. Just as she was about to turn and walk over to Erix, her body froze and she coughed. Her eyes were wide as she looked at her hand which she had used to cover her mouth--it was covered in blood. Time seemed to slow as she crumpled to her knees before finally collapsing to the ground.

"D-damn....underestimated the injury...," was all she said before closing her eyes and falling unconscious.

Nearby, the gates to the city remained closed, and all seemed eerily quiet for such excitement. A solitary silhouette of a mysterious figure could barely be made out near one of the bodies of the fallen soldiers.

Erix's vision blurred in and out as he tried to keep his balance. The woman apparently didn't have much luck in a similar goal, as she fell to her knees and passed out.
He walked toward her, struggling to make each step forward. He knelt down besider her, shaking her slightly in attempt to bring her around. Then, he noticed it. Nearer to the city walls, a figure stood near the fallen soldiers.
Erix, his vision quite blurred, couldn't tell if the figure was a threat. He tried to stand, but didn't possess the strength to do so. Still he grabbed his tome and yelled to the figure, wheather it could understand him or not, "Stay back, or I swear you will burn!" He knew good and well it was a bluff, but he hoped it would keep whatever it was at bay.

The figure tilted its head before stepping over the dead bodies and walking towards Erix and the fallen woman. As the moonlight hit the figure, it was revealed that it was a young woman. She stopped walking halfway and grinned at the mage. Her eyes were sharp, a listless gray in hue. Her violet hair was cut short; spiked and kinda messy in the back, but neatly brushed and parted in the front. She wore a rather elegant violet dress with white frills to match. On her back was a large silver greatsword and in one of her hands was a sleek orange wooden bow.

"Hahaha, boy, I do hope you're joking," she spoke condescendingly and laughed at him. She tucked her bow away and got closer, extending her hand out to point accusingly in the mage's face. "If I were you, I'd be a bit more careful about choosing who you want to pick fights with, eh?" She laughed again. "So you want help or are you going to burn me to a crisp already?"

Erix lowered his hand as he realised that the figure was human, and at least potentially friendly. "My deepest apologies. That was quite...out of line on my end. But you can't blame me for being on edge. We weren't expecting all of this, so I'm not sure what to expect from anything right now." He paused for a moment, catching his breath to continue speaking. "You wish to help us? How so?"

The woman glanced back at the gates to the city. "Tch, no problem. I've seen some pretty nasty beasts in my day, so I know the feeling. Those gates are closed for a reason, ya know?" she said, making it obvious by waving a hand at them. "First Class High Priority Alert. It's a lockdown response due to a monster sighting." The woman reached into her dress and pulled out a black leather wallet. She flipped it open and showed the mage. It was an ID card with her picture and some general info on it on one side, and on the other was a golden badge.

"Hunter's Brigade, Alveza Main Chapter. First Division General Dolce, at your service," the woman introduced herself before tucking away her identification. "I was actually out here looking for that thing, but you guys handled it like professionals," she said surprised, gesturing loosely to the dead wolf. "But you're not professionals." She grimaced. "We'll need to do something about her wounds. And you could use some rest as well." With ease, Dolce stooped down and scooped the unconscious woman in her arms before marching off towards the gates. "Coming?" she asked aloud.

Erix used all of his strength to stand up, and he stumbled weakly after the two strange women. He had no words to return to her, he just knew that they needed help, and she was offering it. So he walked along in silence, hoping that another ambush was not awaiting them. That would not be good, by any means.

The trio reached the castle gates and Dolce raised her fingers to her mouth emitting a loud, sharp whistle that seemed to pierce the silence that had settled in the night. There was a short whistle in response before the gates began to rise. A small group of lightly armored guards trodded forth to meet Dolce. She pointed to the area behind her.

"Three dead and the beast. Take care of it. Split up and scout for more casualties. Eliminate any monster you come across," she commanded. The guards saluted her and rushed out to perform their tasks. Without another word, she continued down the cobblestone road with the weary mage in tow. They reached the town square and headed up the marble stairs of an impressive building. Dolce flashed her ID to the guard outside the large, polished wooden front doors and he saluted her before opening them.

Inside the building was a large lobby. There were plenty of spaces to sit: lots of chairs and couches. A magnficently ornate reception desk rested off to the right. Behind it, a young woman with raven colored hair and stunning green eyes sat in a chair looking over some paperwork, twidding with her thin-framed glasses as she did so. The entrance of the trio caused her to look up and she grimaced at the sight of Dolce holding the wounded woman.

"Oh no...civilian casualties?" the woman spoke, her voice angellic and soft. She was wearing a long, black dress made of a gorgeous material that made it glisten slightly in the dim light of the lobby. She marched out from behind the desk and made her way over to Dolce, her black heels clicking against the marble floor.

"No casualty, Saki. She's still alive. I need you to call Doc and have him prepare for an emergency lookover. Have him rouse the medics to assist him; he's going to need it. I'm gonna take this guy to the resting quarters. Let Flame and Alice know that I'll be ready to meet with them with my report. I expect they'd still be up this late," Dolce explained. She moved over to one of the couches and placed the unconscious woman gently upon it before turning to Erix. "This is the Hunter's Brigade Headquarters. That's Saki, the receptionist. I'm taking you to the guest quarters so you can get some rest. If you wake up and need anything, just come down here and ask Saki. You look like you're about to pass out, too. Think you can follow me for just a bit longer?"

Saki had already disappeared to carry out the tasks given to her...

Erix had been trying to appear attentive, but in his current state, he was drifting closer and closer to losing his consciousness. "Yeah, I'm, uh...I'm following," he replied, and followed obediently, trying to keep his feet moving and his eyes open. He sent his thoughts to anything he possibly could, anything to keep him from passing out. At least, he thought it would help. What was the woman's name? Saki? No, no, that was the receptionist. Dolce, that was it.
"Dolce, was it? Is my friend going to be okay? She got torn up pretty bad out there..."

Dolce sighed. She led the mage north down a hallway. To each side rested many wooden doors kept in wonderful condition. All of them were unmarked, so there was no telling what was on the other side. "Your friend'll be just fine, kid," she finally responded as she reached a staircase off in a slight extension of the right side of the hallway and began to ascend. "I've got the Brigade's Head of Medical Procedures and Operations on the case. Doc's the brightest mind around here when it comes to healing; he'll have her looking good as new," she tried to assure him.

They reached the second floor and got off the staircase to head down another hallway. Eventually, she came to a halt. "From the staircase, seventh door on the right," she told him and opened the door revealing a small room. It had a cozy bed with a white bedspread. A small dainty nightstand stood near it. At the foot of the bed was a large chest for clothing and other personal items. A wooden dining table sat at the far end of the room with a few matching wooden chairs tucked in nicely underneath it. There was another door. Dolce pointed at it. "Bathroom," she stated simply and walked into the room gesturing for him to follow. "I know it's not much, but it's comfortable...or should be at least. The bathroom is fully stocked with toiletries, but before washing the grime off of yourself, you should probably get some sleep. I'll be sending the medics in here to treat your own wounds; they're careful little buggers so I'm sure they won't disturb your slumber," she said and winked, lettingn loose a slight laugh.

"If you need anything, Saki's downstairs. Don't forget what room you're staying in unless you want an awkward conversation." She turned around and prepared to leave the room. "Sorry you had to reach Alveza like this. You guys got stuck doing my job...," she muttered before looking down at the floor and shaking her head. "No use throwing a pity party. Get some rest." With that, she closed the door and proceeded down the hallway.

Back in the lobby...

A fairly tall gentleman glanced down at the wounded body of the woman on the couch. His dark red eyes seemed aimlessly in thought. One of his fingers played with a strand of his long, feathery, dusty brown hair. "Hmm...," he said and took out a notepad and pen from one of the pockets of his white lab coat. He opened it up, clicked the pen into writing mode, and started scribbling away.

"General Dolce said emergency operations, Doc," Saki said impatiently, tapping a foot against the marble floor. The woman looked horrible; she needed immediate treatment.

"So you're a doctor now, eh, Saki?" Doc replied coolly before tucking away his pad and pen. He gave a sign for his attending medics to lift the woman onto a stretcher and carry her away. He remained behind. "Does that woman look kind of familiar to you?"

Saki sighed as her face met her palm. "What does that have to do with anything? Dolce's not going to be happy if you keep at this...," she said sharply. "And you know that's never good for anyone."

Doc turned his back on the receptionist. "It was just an honest question. Answer it, and I'll be on my way."

"Yes."

"Thank you. That's all I needed to hear," Doc stated and walked away after his subordinates.

Clicking filled the lobby as Saki made her way back behind her desk and sat down. "What a weirdo..." she muttered to herself as she started scanning over her paperwork.

As the door closed, Erix immediately collapsed on the bed. He lay there for several minutes, trying to collect his thoughts.
If I hadn't found this woman, I'd surely be dead right now. Those wolves would have ripped me to shreads... was the thought that kept replaying in his mind. A scary thought. Hard to imagine death, and how close he had been to it. Maybe luck had been on his side on this night.
He sat up on the bed before making an attempt to stand, the first of which failed. When he did make it to his feet, he quite literally tossed his book to the table, and then proceeded to remove his cloak. It had recieved quite a bit more damage. He placed it in the chest, not bothering to remove any of the bloody clothing he wore underneath. Without the cloak, he looked nothing short of a homeless man.
Well, I have no home to go to, so I guess I am homeless. He then proceeded to lay on the bed once more, and this time he would fall asleep as soon as his head hit the pillows.

Dolce made it to the top floor and knocked on the only wooden door present. Not waiting for an answer, she pushed the door open and closed it quickly behind her. The room was extremely large. All the walls had bookcases upon them filled to the brim with various literature. At the far end of the room stood a sturdy, wooden desk with a comfortable looking chair behind it. The middle of the room had a small coffee table sitting about a soft, crimson rug. Two matching crimson couches sat facing each other, one on each side of the coffee table. The room was rather warm, for an ornate fireplace to the right was lit.

Two people were sitting on one of the couches. One was a muscular man in rather fancy attire: white, puffy dress shirt with a black vest over top and matching black dress pants and black dress shoes. His hair was short and blond, combed back and most likely controlled with styling gel. His blue eyes met Dolce's as soon as she walked in. The other person was a woman who also had blond hair, long and sleek, that flowed down her back. Her eyes, however, were of a green hue like Saki's. She smiled upon seeing Dolce. Quickly she rose and straightened her black overcoat. Beneath it she wore a button-up white dress shirt reminiscent of the man's and a black skirt that went down to her knees. She preferred to dress modestly despite being very "well-developed."

"First Division General Dolce reporting," Dolce said and saluted the two.

"Don't be ridiculous, love," the woman said before rushing up to Dolce and embracing her causing the violet-haired girl to blush. "We're just glad you're safe. Come sit." The woman led Dolce to the couches and gestured for her to sit as she did the same, taking her original place next to the man.

"I'm safe...but, I'm afraid some others got involved," Dolce explained. "One woman, somewhere in her late twenties/early thirties. And one young gentleman, most likely in his early twenties. Civilians. Yet...," her voice trailed off.

"What's wrong?" the man asked, his voice deep. He was gazing at Dolce worriedly from his spot on the couch.

"They managed to beat Rizel," Dolce responded bluntly. "The King of the Night. MY mark. They didn't take it down with ease, by far, but the fact that they beat it at all is just beyond me. Both of them got beat up pretty badly. Doc's treating the woman right now under emergency pretenses and the man is resting up. Medics will be tending to him soon."

"You did the right thing by bringing them here," the blonde woman said assuringly. "If you hadn't chanced upon them, there might have been no victors to that fight."

Silence.

"I want to take them in," Dolce said firmly after a few minutes of no speaking. "There's just something about them; they possess so much potential. To let it go to waste would do this country no justice."

"I assume you'll be taking them into your division?" the man asked.

"Absolutely. Training will be done by me personally. If these two are going to top out, they'll need to be put through some intense situations."

"Nobody does intense like Dolce," the blonde woman interjected and laughed, watching Dolce blush some more while rolling her eyes. "So easy to pick on. You've always been like that. Even when we were little."

"And you've always been a bully," Dolce said sharply and stood up. "I'm going to go check on the woman," she added and made her way to the door. "I assume my plan is all right with you guys."

"Mhm."

"Absolutely."

"Very well."

A couple of medics had made it into Erix's room overnight and treated to his brutal wounds, cleaning them gently and bandaging everything up. They even went as far as to stich up his clothing and remove the bloodstains from it. When their work was finished, they had left the room quietly to attend to other duties. Night transitioned into early morning, and from there, noon drew near. A sharp knocking came upon Erix's door.

"Mage fellow. You awake?" the sound of Dolce's voice came from the other side.

Erix woke up suddenly as a knock came at the door, and a familliar voice sounded behind it. At first, he didn't want to respond. He was still quite tired. Yet he still sat up and took a look at himself. He was impressed by what he saw. His clothing looked almost as good as they had when they were new, with no rips, holes, or blood. He assumed that his cloak would be the same. He lifted his shirt to glance at the wounds he had recieved the previous night. It was still apparent where the injuries had taken place, but they looked healthy. They had been treated well.
After a few moments obsessing over the medics' work from the previous night, he had completely forgotten about the woman at the door.
"O-oh, yeah. Come in."

Dolce opened the door and looked the mage up and down. "It never ceases to amaze me...those medics really know how to do their job," she said, her arms crossed and a smile upon her face. She walked across the room and sat down on the bed with him. "So, how did you sleep? Was the room comfortable enough for you?" she asked. It was a pointless question. Anyone on the verge of complete exhaustion surely had comfort placed low on their priority list. This fellow was probably just glad to have somewhere to sleep that wasn't the grassy plains outside the city.
