Apocalypse: The Final Stand

"I was only a child when it all began... but now... I'm old enough to see. See that I... no... we must be the ones to end this."

It was six years ago when the plague began. It was six years ago when bodies became the sidewalks. It was six years ago when death was commonplace. It's still like that today... only... all Hell has broke loose. People hide like rats in the ruins of their homes, afraid to leave and face the threat at hand. The creatures... the demons... the spirits... the warped... they have many names. But does it make any difference? Not one bit.

It was only a year ago that I was truly affected. My cousin Victoria and I... we were living together with my mother and her father. Her mother and my father passed away when the plague began... God knows where they ended up. Our parents are too scared to face the threat... and I was too at the time. I was just like them... a quivering excuse for a person. But not anymore.

We received a letter... Victoria and I. And that was all it took for us to leave the life we knew to vanquish these demons. We know we may not come back, but it doesn't matter. This is our world... not theirs. These are our lives... and we plan to live them how we like. Even if it means losing one another along the way.

"Our first encounter was... sooner than expected."

We had been traveling for less than half an hour through the capitol city of Antiro when we came upon town square. The sight was the same... the things we had become accustomed to made no difference now. Mangled bodies littering the streets... ruined buildings that held memories of our childhood.. all the same. There as a different sight though, one we had been expecting since we first ran away.

"Flash Imps..."

They still hadn't noticed Victoria and Verica as they entered the square. It seemed they were to busy jabbing bodies and other remain as they went about whatever business they had. Verica looked over to Victoria with a smirk, preemptive strikes would be all the more helpful on their journey.

Victoria smirked, just barely. "Wonderful." Oh yes, wonderful indeed. Finally a chance to test her skills against a real demon, small as they were. So soon after leaving their little town too. And Verica looked as if she wanted the same enjoyment out of it. Perhaps it was childish, or a tad violent. Whatever.

"Let's get 'em."

But the preemptive strike wouldn't work out for the two girls, for the second they began to move one of the imps took notice. Its strange sapphire eyes bulged as it shrieked something to the other two in the area. In less than a moment the three had taken battle position and were ready to stab the "foolish" humans to death.
