Eternal Dream: Online Empty Eternal Dream: Online

So, word on the street: there's some new online game that just came out. It's supposed to be a virtual simulation of "our world" - you know - the human world, complete with things like gravity and air and all that pizazz. Some of my friends have gotten it, and they tell me it can fully simulate bodily reflexes and interactions! If you didn't know this much, you probably don't know what kind of genre it falls under, do you?

They tell me it's an MMORPG - a massively multiplayer online roleplaying game - where you can play with all of your buddies in an entirely online and complete enviro- No no, don't get me wrong here. When I say it's a virtual simulation of "our world," the similarities stop at gravity and air and blah-blah whatever. The environment itself is quite wonderful. In fact, it's so astounding and beauty-ridden, some refer to the game as "Eternal Dream." Though the official name is "Nightmare Run," most of its community prefer the former.

No, but really. You need to try it out. It scored 5/5 in the most up-to-date gaming magazine.

Trust me.

You need to try it.

---------~---------

Durn here again! I'm sure you guys remember that old RP Kuori made almost a year ago. You know, that one where all of our characters are our own personas? Yeah, that one. I really, really liked the idea of creating a statistical roleplay where we use ourselves as characters, but it died off after a while, and that made me sad.

Seeing that we have quite a few new buddies, I think it would be really fun to remake something like that with old and new ED friends alike! If you're interested, let me know and send me a profile!

(Don't forget, we're swapping back to MP from CE. Appearances should be relatively modern, since your in-game appearance doesn't change from your real-life appearance. And no, your appearance doesn't have to look like you if you don't want it to. That's reasonable.)

THE PALE GARDEN:

Music: New World

The last thing I can remember is putting that damned, five-hundred-dollar electronic visor-thing atop my head. There was a rainbow veil of light between myself and the login screen, and then blackness. That's all I can remember: color, then blackness.

I awoke, "Where..." mumbling, still disoriented and half-awoken, lying in a sea of, what were they, leaves? Yeah, they certainly felt like leaves to me. I could feel that veiny texture, and I could hear the crunch against my cheek, and I could see those autumnal colors. They were definitely leaves. My left eye opened after my right, and my spine cracked and whined as I lifted myself from the ground.

"What... is this place?"

I remarked under the coldness of my own breath, astounded and taken aback by the sheer magnitude of the forest that encompassed me. The trees, so winter-white and bleached an uncolored hue by some sort of odd genetic makeup, sprouted lavender leaves, which fell to an odd, crunching-cracking carpet of orange, lavender, and red beneath my feet.

I squinted, but there seemed to be a distinct lack of sunlight beyond the canopy above. No drops of radiance barged its way through the malevolent wall of leaves in the sky, and beyond the wall lay only an eternal, blackened void that seemed to gaze back at me when I looked at it. Sunlight left the world.

Somehow, I hadn't noticed it until then, but I distinctly remember jumping aback as I realized what loomed in front of me. Between the lavender-orange-whatever-color-they-were trees, and amongst their falling leaves of chromatic shades, I could see an array of fuchsia-lavenderish thorns, which weaved together to form an impassable wall of greenery. In the midst of the wall, a large, powder-purple flower blossomed far larger than any other flower that rested upon the gate. A fantastic, scraggly arrangement of thorns and roots protruded from its calyx, almost seeming to hold the gate together all on its own.

"Where..." I repeated, "... am I?"

---------~---------
THE HANGING TREE:

Music: New World

At the very, very top of the eternal void which dotted the ceiling of the Backwards Wood, an upside-down tree latched its resilient roots to the top of the world. Its bark, almost pure-white in contrast to the void to which it clung to, wrapped in an almost inverted direction, forming a sort of cradle between its base and its branches, in the midst of which a young caste of adventurers seemed to awake.

They awoke in a wooded nest, and above them, blackness and branches, so brambled and thorn-laden, almost like a prison. From the branches above them and around them, decaying corpses rested from a skintight noose which slithered around each one's nape and throat. In the sky-high, void-kissed nest, the adventurers could gaze downward through its cracks to see that they were suspended far above ground level.

In order to reach the lavender-reddened and white forest that blanketed the ground below, they needed to descend the tree and reach its lowest branches, from which they could jump unto the earth they so greatly desired.

---------~---------
THE POND OF SELFISH DESIRES:

Music: New World

The third and final group of adventurers awoke in a crater -- far deeper into the earth than any of the other unfortunate trespassers of the Backwards Wood. Along the edge of the crater, one could see a vast arrangement of almost white-barked, lavender-leaved trees which seemed to gaze unto the adventures and laugh at them.

In the midst of the crater, in which the adventurers had awoken, a small pond wetted the twisted-black crater's dirt. The water, though coated with an almost purple-blackened sheen, reflected the visage of those who peeked into it quite perfectly. Throughout the extensive pond, ruinous columns and desecrated buildings jetted from the blackened waters, abandoned and forsaken after, judging by the cobwebs, and the cracks, and the orange-brown bloodstained stairways, what seemed to be hundreds of millions of years.

Though the crater seemed much too steep to grovel out of by foot, one could certainly ascend a toppled tower across the crater's northern front and jump to ground level from there.

Eternal Dream: Online Empty Re: Eternal Dream: Online

Post by Xenosaga Mon Nov 19, 2012 12:32 pm

Holy fucking shit, my head felt like it was trying to burst through the seams, even though it wasn't stitched together. It hurt so bad, I was distinctly aware of tears gathering in my open eyes. I didn't even remember opening them. Letting out a cross between a gargle and a groan, I forced my aching body to sit up, having been lying on my back. God, I couldn't even think with this fucking pain.

Taking a deep, shuddering breath, I tried to relax myself and stop the bile that was threatening to rise up in my throat. A long moment-it felt like a fucking eternity-later, I could feel the pain lessen and my body stopped shaking which surprised me because I hadn't even realized I was shaking. Blinking rapidly, I raised a hand and pushed my glasses back up the bridge of my nose. They were always slipping. But better these than those new frames I got like a year ago.

Okay, now that I didn't feel like a wreck, it seemed okay to actually figure out what the hell happened. I closed my eyes and thought back to the last thing I remembered. Let's see, meeting up with my friends, getting hugged to death, kicking my male friend in the balls for touching me, sprouting verbal abuse on all of them, being called 'tsun-tsun' which was a decidedly retarded nickname because I didn't even know what the hell the 'tsun' in 'tsundere' even meant. But these were all yesterday's events, I needed today. Which was a lot harder than I thought because all that came to me was that fucking five hundred dollar-

"-piece of shit! Fuck!" I hissed out, suddenly furious. Talk about a health hazard! "Why did I buy the fucking thing again? Oh right, because I'm a retard." I sighed heavily, pushing myself off the ground and onto my feet. I brushed off my clothes, frowning slightly at the sight of so many leaves. Something didn't feel right. I don't remember being outdoors when I tried that thing on. Raising my head, I began to look around.

The first thing I noticed was a person, some male. I grimaced before looking away to survey the land. Trees, trees, trees, trees, even more goddamned trees and where the fuck was the sunlight? And then there were the colors. I mentally squealed. Purple! The leaves were purple! Happy day, happy day! I couldn't help the smile that appeared on my face, purple always cheered me up. Though, honestly, this felt like some place in the Digimon world. I grimaced again. In a way, it was.

"Okay!" I breathed, turning my head back toward the male. "Yo! Whoever you are."

Post by Cerani Mon Nov 19, 2012 12:41 pm

I woke up on my back, blinking up at lavender shaded leaves. 'Curious color for a tree,' I thought, but then I remembered. That damn visor-looking thing cost a damn pretty penny and it looked more like it was going to give me a headache than totally redefine gaming for me. Regardless, I had stuck it on and watched as it did a psychedelic rendition of the spacetime Vortex on me, and then nothing but darkness.

So, I sat up, hearing the crunch of leaves beneath my legs and noticing how they felt underneath my hands. All prickly and dry. Everything looked rather stark and too real, like looking at something when the sun first starts to rise but hasn't peeked out over the horizon just yet. Even then it kinda looked wrong to me. I sat there for a bit before I realized I could see the tip of my nose in the bottom left corner of my vision. "The hell?" Before I could consider the possibilities, I reached up to touch my eyes and felt a patch of fabric over my left eye. So I was basically half-blind here too? Awesome. Fine, whatever. I could totally Xander Harris this shit.

I gathered my legs in front of me and hopped up into a standing position, gazing about me at the trippy trees until I saw a couple people some distance ahead of me. "Hey!" I called, trying to get their attention as I jogged up to the two, leaves crunching noisily under my feet. "Hey man, what's going on?" As I stood there looking at them, I couldn't help feeling something was familiar about them both. Like I knew them already or something, but didn't recognize either one yet.

Post by Durn Mon Nov 19, 2012 1:12 pm

I wiped my eyes, you know, to get rid of that disgusting crusty stuff that always coalesces around your eye-creases after you sleep, and found myself eye-to-eye with a bespectacled little Asian girl, "Oh, um." She was quite casual, which I could dig, "Yo, I guess. Do you know why these trees are like, purple?" He smiled, but he didn't really mean much by it. It was one of those smiles that just kind of creeps out of your mouth when you meet someone. An obligatory smile; yeah, that's what they called it. "No, forget the trees, whoever you are. Where are we?"

I looked downward, perhaps to feel the leaves, or maybe the dirt, but I don't think I really knew. When I removed my palm from the dirt, I inherently wiped my palm against my jeans, and met eyes with another girl, this one, however, was caucasian, but nonetheless just as familiar as the other girl. "We're just as lost as you are, I think." I remarked.

Everything really was quite strange -- certainly unearthly, maybe even otherworldly. All I could really do was scratch the top of my unkempt blondish-brown hair which seemed to grow darker with age. I hadn't thought about it until I met the two girls, but I had forgotten to make my hair look all nice and pretty when I woke up. All I wanted to do was play some kind of super-immersive video game -- that was it.

But really, this didn't feel like a game at all. It was eerily lifelike, however lifelike purple trees and cloudless, black skies could be, I guess.

"My name is Alex. I think my Eternal Dream: Online name was Durn or something like that. I can't really remember."

Eternal Dream: Online Empty Re: Eternal Dream: Online

Post by Masquerade Mon Nov 19, 2012 1:17 pm

The last thing I needed was a headache from hell, but that was sure enough what I awoke with. I didn't remember falling asleep; I was actually supposed to be trying out this highly acclaimed video game called Eternal Dream, at least unofficially. Nightmare Run didn't seem all that friendly of a name at all, not like I really gave a damn. Clutching my head, I managed to sit up. Where was my helmet-visor-thingy? I remembered wearing it in order to play the game. It felt so high tech and amazing; I had been expecting so much. What I didn't expect was to be blinded by a blazing rainbow light show only then to succumb to darkness and reawaken in the midst of somewhere lost in dreams or imagination or maybe even a combination of the two because there was one thing I knew for certain, and that was I wasn't at home anymore. More frighteningly than that, I wasn't even sure if I'd ever be returning.

Warily, I arose, head still pounding, my eyes sore as well. I blinked them several times and gazed at my surroundings which could only be described as horrendous and hopeless and...what the fuck was I wearing? It looked to be some garb from an interactive web comic thing called Homestuck. It had the hope symbol on the robe which reminded me of the god tier Seer's outfit. The Seer of Hope. How appropriate. This brought a smile to my face, but it didn't aid me in figuring out where the hell I was or how the hell I was supposed to get out because by the looks of it, I was trapped with nowhere to go but down--down to some dream-like forest at the base of this giant, inverse, void-clutching tree complete with dangling corpses from nooses and thick thorns keeping me in this dreadful place like a jail cell.

A brief thought crossed my mind: what if this was the game? It reminded me of the .hack// series and their MMO called 'The World.' That thought scared me because in the series, people who played the game could wind up going into a coma in real life. What if that happened here? My excitement just about went all down the drain. This didn't seem like the kind of game where you cheerfully ran around collecting coins or dots or something while beating up silly minions. This was exactly what the game's title portrayed: a nightmare. Still gazing about rather drearily now, I noticed that I was not alone. I remembered that some of my online friends were going to play the game as well, but the game was so popular that I figured that the odds that they were people I knew were slim to none. Regardless, I awaited for them quietly to awaken, and come to their own realizations about what had happened to them...and myself.

Manual? Who reads the fucking manuals? This particular person is much too many for such petty things as manuals. I don't even know if there IS a manual, but you'd think there was considering how much I had to pay to get this blasted thing. It fit a bit awkwardly over my large cranium and glasses. It made me want to put some extra padding inside it. But once I put it on and flipped the switch, everything went dark.

Like...really dark.

The next thing I remember is "waking up," which was more or less just opening my eyes. A crater in the ground, and a fucking deep one. In the center of the crater was a pond with disgusting looking water, which did not reflect the color of the sky like it should. So this must be the game room. Well, the game makers were certainly...creative. I spied not too far away two other people, one of whom I recognized.

I just sat by the edge of the water and stared blankly at my own reflection. Nothing seemed very different, I still looked like me, though everything seemed to be a bit more animated. Less pointless movements than usual. If I tried to sit still, I could sit still, without even noticing any movements. It would be fun to sneak up on people like this, but I could see how that might work against us already.

Fuck, not even three minutes into the game and I'm already predicting how I'm going to get a game over.

"Oh please," I couldn't stop myself from saying, waving a hand. "I don't really care how they're purple, just that they're purple. To be surrounded by my favorite color, what more can I ask for?" I was slightly surprised, to be honest. I didn't usually talk so well with a stranger, mostly my friends and family. In fact, I went out of my way to keep my mouth shut most of the time.

Oh, hey, another girl! I smiled, placing a left hand on my hip. Thank god because as okay I am with boys, it would have been incredibly awkward if it had been just the two of us. The thought made me shudder a little. I took a moment to actually look at the two now in my presence. The guy looked normal but the girl had orange hair and an eyepatch. That was . . . pretty cool, actually. She was literally half blind while I just had half my vision in both eyes.

All in all, I felt like I would get along with the two splendidly.

As I listened to the male introduce himself, I choked. Like, really choked. Coughing and gasping with tears of pain in my eyes.

"Durn?!" I repeated in disbelief, staring with wider than usual eyes. I was with Durn? "You're name's Alex?" Irrelevant but hey, I never knew his name. Or I forgot it. Either of the two was likely. But getting off-topic, it really wasn't all that important. "I mean, holy shit. Uh, I'm Xenosaga." I hesitated a little before I said the 'ze' in 'Xenosaga'. My eyes flickered to the side for a moment. "But if we're going by real names, I'm, uh, Rosa." The last part came out a little rushed.

Okay, for some reason, things just got a little awkward for me. Turning my gaze the other girl, I decided to follow my gut feeling and pray I was right. "Are you. . . could you be Cerani?" I stumbled over the name, unused to actually saying it out loud and a little worried I pronounced it wrong. It ended up coming out something like 'se-ra-ni', if we went with the Japanese pronunciation of things. I have such odd habits, now that I think abut it.

I grinned so much at that moment, I kinda felt stupid but I didn't care. "Durn? Xeno?" I grabbed them both in an awkward three-person hug for all of two seconds before taking a step back. "It's Cerani, dude. Like Sara, with a 'ni' at the end." It was cool. I hadn't met anyone who could spell my real name right, or pronounce my online names. "Uh, wait." I held up both my index fingers. "Real names, right. You can call me C.C. Like CC DeVille, the lead guitar guy in Poison?" I didn't really expect them to get the reference, but said it anyway. Mentally, I noted to myself that Durn was Alex and Xeno was Rosa. I'd probably end up calling them by their screennames anyway, but felt it appropriate to remember these things. And also that I was goddamn short compared to the two of them. Well, Xeno only had an inch on me, but still.

"Damn, still the shortest."

Music: It's Not All Fun and Games

A silly little grin spread over my face as Cerani introduced herself. I really tried to hide it, but my efforts were for naught as the little, one-eyed trooper attempted to clasp her arms around both Xeno and myself at the same time. It turned out immensely awkward, seeing that I was probably a good seven inches taller than both of them. It made me chuckle -- the noise that came out was probably closer to a giggle, but we're not going to talk about that -- and I honestly felt a little bit happier about the situation.

Well, that was the case, until I heard a rustling noise rummage beneath the wonderfully colored leaves we had been oh-so-marvelled by up until now. "Do y'all hear that?" I turned my head toward the noise, "This is a battle MMORPG, isn't it? We should be ready..." I scurried through my pockets for some sort of dagger or anything of the sort, immediately before realizing that I was entirely unarmed and vulnerable to whatever crazy abominations that lurked throughout the woods.

Come on, Alex. Which profession did you choose at the character creation menu? You can't just forget how you're supposed to kill things! Come on!

Turns out, I was right. Immediately after I spouted my warning at the two girls, almost as if it were on queue, a quintuplet of monstrous flowers blossomed straight out from under the piles of leaves scattered across the ground. The things were almost human-sized, complete with their own sets of disturbingly realistic thorn-tentacles and glowing, central bulbs which seemed to fuel them with life. From the tip of each tentacle blossomed another flower, dawning a fine set of canines, perfect for biting into the recesses of human flesh.

"Carnivorous plants?" I was probably stating the obvious, but I was too scared to notice.

Eternal Dream: Online Empty Re: Eternal Dream: Online

Post by Xenosaga Mon Nov 19, 2012 2:39 pm

Oh god, this hug was just-

-I don't even-

-BLARGH.

After soft of flailing around a little from the so awkward hug, I relaxed a little, only a little mind you, and accepted it. Because, hey, it wasn't everyday you met online friends in a virtual reality game. When we were released, I coughed, face heated. Seriously, really embarrassing. Still, I couldn't help smiling. Because, seriously, this was like a miracle to me. Meeting Durn and Cerani like this, just wow.

And, oh, so that's how you pronounced it. Though I was a little embarrassed I got it wrong, at least I got who she was right! Then again, Cerani was the only other person I knew was a girl besides Creame. Which made me wonder who else was in the game. It didn't look like there was anyone besides the three of us.

But, of course, I spoke too soon because there was suddenly an odd rustling and at Durn's words, I almost groaned. Okay, okay, no panicking! This might feel like reality but it was still a game! Kind of. Which meant we had weapons! Maybe. Quickly, I patted myself down and furrowed my eyebrows. Something felt REALLY weird about my clothing. I mean, it was the same thing I had on when I put that thrice-damned contraption on my face but it felt. . . heavier?

Course, I wasn't able to dwell on it long because HOLY SHIT WHAT THE FUCK ARE THOSE THINGS?!

And really, of course I didn't just say it in my mind, I was always a very loud person. "Holy shit, what the fuck are those things?!" I barely heard Durn, too busy gaping in horror.

Cerani starts in G - 5.

"What the fuck?" Our joy of reunion was shortlived, even Durn's familiar accent failing to get a smile from me as the huge, plant ensnared gates ahead opened. Without really thinking about it, I put myself in front of the other two, the idea that I was probably flimsier than they were only occurring to me in the back of my head. Tentacles and fleshy plants. Yeah, I was so not going a bad place with that. "We have to have weapons . . right?" Durn was right, this was a battle-oriented MMO - we had to be armed with something. I patted at my hips and waist, expecting to find something there until I noticed a strap going diagonally across my chest. I followed up across my shoulder until I felt a leatherbound handle, the material creaking quietly as I unsheathed the weapon. It was a longsword, made of dull colored iron.

"Right." I muttered. I had picked in the beginning what I do best in most MMOs, which is bash things into submission. The blade was heavy, but comfortable, as if I was already familiar with its use and weight. Experimentally, I twirled it a couple times like I had so many times playing with sticks and LARP weapons before. It was weird. So damn familiar, the way I could make the sword move like an extension of my arm and the way I ended in my favourite stance. My feet were spread, left hand pointed at the ugly plant in front of me, and sword over my head with its point directed dead center of my first real enemy. I couldn't help it: I smiled.

Post by Durn Mon Nov 19, 2012 3:05 pm

Durn starts at H5.

Instead of undergoing some kind of crazy, cursing mouth-convulsion like everyone else, I sneakily motioned myself behind Cerani. She was pretty short, and I'm sure the crazy plant monsters could easily wrap their tentacles around her in order to reach me, but it was kind of a psychological reassurance that someone was directly in front of me, able to protect me from the crazy rapebeasts that wanted to assault Xeno and I.

I don't think I actually meant to sound like I wanted Cerani to get impaled before I did, but I guess that's the way that last inner-mologue sounded, intentionally or not. Regardless, as the plant creatures grew closer to us, I looked away from them in fear, redirecting my gaze toward a bronze ring that rested itself on my finger. I was never really big on jewelry, so I certainly wasn't wearing it just for the kicks.

Could it have been my weapon?

Cerani uses Hit and Slash [-10 MP] on Corpse Flower (5)! 10 Atk damage, 2 hits! High critical chance on second hit.

I felt Durn's presence at my back and tried to stay in front of him as much as my short body could. Granted I probably looked much more imposing with the sword, but it wasn't like I could tell exactly what these plants were looking at. Still, I was starting to feel a little awkward just standing there with my sword looking cool. I was going to have to get closer to the damn thing.

I stepped up without another thought about it and smashed the pommel down on a thick petal, where it made a nice squelching sound. Then I turned on one foot and swung it around in a circle, slicing through the most vulnerable part I could see with an almost cliche schink! I held my weapon in front of me defensively, watching the plant ooze . . plant juices. It was actually pretty gross, even as I stood there smiling at it.

It was actually kind of awkward looking through my clothing with two other people in the vicinity. Actually, a lot of things have been awkward since I started this damn game. But hey, I had to do what I had to do. And surprise, surprise, why the hell do I have so many sharp objects under my clothing? In fact, why would I need them? I've never held a knife in my entire-Well, not really, I mean, I had to cut stuff for food after all. But to stab someone, no. So-

-Oh right. I choose the Assailant type because I wanted a speedy, physical damage dealer. I was sick of being a cleric and this was a virtual reality! Why not? So, taking two of these rusty knives in hand, I awkwardly attempted a stance.

Yeah, not working.

Seeing Cerani practically decimate a plant with two hits, I felt my smile return to my face. The fright from the appearance of these monstrous things was slowly ebbing away, only to replaced with excitement. How many people could say they had fought and won against things like these? Not many. Not to mention, I didn't need to worry about getting into trouble. This was just how things were. So, with my smile turning into a wide grin, I made my way over to the closest plant.

[Xenosaga] moves to [G-2].

I admit, I probably could have killed the thing using what I knew had to be a skill but I was also curious. What would it be like to be hit by these things? It might have been a little creepy, thinking something like that but I honestly wanted to know. So, instead of just getting rid of the thing, I decided to slash at it twice. It was amazing just how much damage I did with just those two hits. And how awkward it was to actually attack.I really needed some practice.

Eternal Dream: Online Empty Re: Eternal Dream: Online

Post by Kurio Mon Nov 19, 2012 3:59 pm

I blinked, staring at the sky, or at least what I could see of it. The sky was like a picture obscured by a circular frame of dirt and stone. Around the edge I could make out figures, they looked like people, though upon closer inspection they were more likely to be just foliage. Only when I sat up and surveyed the area did the thought finally come to me that I was in a crater, one that would be impossible to climb out of. Not only would there be difficulty finding something to grab onto while climbing, but also the threat of the dirt coming loose and the entire crater caving in. There was also a pond, fairly close to where I lay. One look into the water and I felt repulsed. I didn't know what color it was exactly, I just knew that no normal kind of water, or any liquid for that matter, should look like that. Then there were two people nearby, also stuck in the crater with me. They were probably other players, either that or NPC's that I needed to talk to in order to get myself out of this place.

I stood up and glanced into the water once more. I had caught a glimpse of my reflection when I looked at the water the first time, but I had to do a double take. There was no way I looked like that. My eyes weren't their usual brown anymore, it was a shade of red that just screamed "demonic" to me but at the same time the color felt strangely comforting. And my hair, I knew I had considerably long hair compared to most other guys but it wasn't this long! And I always did keep my hair in a ponytail, but I never braided it. I also felt several inches taller than I remembered myself being and I had to look down at myself to make sure I wasn't floating or some shit.

I was shocked, not by my strange clothes, which to be honest should have shocked me. But rather it was due to seeing the part of my body revealed by the small vest that I had on. I remember what I looked like, and I was an incredibly skinny person with no visible muscle on my body. Yet here I was with my midriff looking like that. Then beneath it were long black pants and very old-fashioned looking Chinese shoes. No way that this was myself anymore.

"Uh...what exactly is this place?" I asked, my question directed toward the two others.

Durn casts Jewel Paw on Cerani! -8 CE!

Cerani is covered!

A relaxing, yet transient air of relief overcame me as Cerani cut the flower's bulb clean off of its calyx. Watching the plant parts shower throughout the trees and stain the leafy carpet an odd, almost blood-like, oozy color almost made me vomit, but it was reassuring to know that we were truly capable of handling such ferocious beasts.

Perhaps I had spoken too soon, for almost as instantly as I had dropped my guard, the other plants, which stealthily concealed themselves beneath floral arrangements and the oddly white trees, launched a flurry of monstrous, fanged tendrils at Cerani in response to her action.

My eyes widened, and a sudden spark snapped the cords of my mind together, and I could remember the character creation menu, and the class type option, which I had highlighted as "Geomancer."

Yeah, that must've been it! The ring is for the geomancy!

I held my hand around Cerani, almost as if I were hugging her. It was an odd, half-hug, half-hoverhand kind of stance, and I really had no clue what I was doing. With little time to explain myself, as the flaying tentacles hurled themselves at Cerani's torso, I shouted out to her "Don't move!"

Only milliseconds before the tentacles made contact with Cerani's skin, my arm, which had been gently covering Cerani's torso, burst into a wondrously large bulwark of amethyst gems, repelling the tentacles from Cerani as they smashed themselves into the shield, bursting into chunks of crimson, blood-red ooze.

"Fucking christ," I murmured in a sudden rumble of pain, crouching downward as the tentacles repelled off of my crystalline arm, which proceeded to recede back into its normal, skinlike state after moments of activity. "That shit hurts," I wasn't one for cursing, but the pain those plants brought to my arm had been nearly unbearable, and I needed to express to Xeno and Cerani the danger that came with making contact with those creatures, "Like, super bad." I groaned.

"Oh, ew!" I gagged as the flower thing grabbed me. "Get off of me!" I quickly slashed at the thing twice more, effectively cutting off the tentacles that had roped themselves around me. I think the most disgusting part of it all was how it seemed to eat away at my energy too by sucking it out of me. In fact, I felt a little violated.

"Well, now I know what it feels like," I grumbled, regretting my decision of not having killed it off as quickly as I could. I felt sick. Whatever the thing had done to me, it clearly had lasting effects. "Ugggh, going to have to be fucking careful now." Hearing Durn's remark, I winced. "That's not all that hurts. These things have this creepy move where they suck the energy right out of you via tentacle rape!" I patted my stomach and grimaced. "And I think they can poison you when they do that."

Post by Cerani Mon Nov 19, 2012 4:45 pm

"Fuck, man! Are you alright?" I barely had time to register that Durn had saved me from some serious injuries before he was cursing about it behind me. I'd already turned, a hand on his shoulder to see if he was too badly hurt. I didn't see any blood yet, only his pained and partially dazed expression. I glanced at Xeno, she seemed to have things under control for now though she looked somewhat pained herself. I didn't want to leave him sitting there, but there were still things that wanted to kill us hanging around. The sense of urgency running up and down my spine spurred me into action. "Help Xeno, I got this." With that, I took off after the next closest plant round the other side of a white and purple tree.

Cerani moves to F-7.

My brows pulled together, making me a little more aware of the string curling around my head from the patch. The plants bled a strange blood red, supremely gross. By now, I wasn't really smiling anymore. It kinda stopped being fun when my friends started getting hurt. Regardless, I held up the sword when I skidded to a stop and swung hard at the plant, feeling a grim kind of satisfaction when it bled too. I had wanted to use the same particular technique I had on the first, but something was holding me back.

It took me a couple seconds of standing there, waiting on the huge plant to retaliate, for me to realize again that I was still in a game. Skills like that cost me some kind of energy I couldn't quite feel but knew was there.

Durn moves to F6!

Durn attacks Corpse Flower (3)! 5 ATK Damage!

I toppled to the ground again, grasping my arm with my other hand in some kind of half-assed attempt at soothing my own pain, but that didn't seem to help much. "Yeah, I'll manage." Cringing, I managed to sputter a few words toward Cerani, and then off she went, and more crimson spatters flew. I suppose I'd have to get used to that, wouldn't I?

Stumbling back to my feet, I could hear the crunching of the lavender leaves beneath me as I approached one of the Corpse Flowers. Its bulb seemed to point straight at me, and I could hardly bear looking at it. I could hardly think of gazing into the heart of anything that had the intent to kill me. It caused way too much psychological stress.

More flying tentacle whips hissed toward Cerani, and I once again conjured a protective wall of amethyst, which rose around her in a circle formation, causing the tentacles to ricochet off of the mineral and fire back at the plants again.

I've been told once or twice -- no -- several times, by several different YouTube videos and Reddit threads, to knuckle on through when things got serious. I had to fight back. There's no way I could survive just by protecting my friends when times got tough. I needed to kill.

I needed to end what was causing me so much pain, conjuring a rough-jagged stone directly above the cruel plant's bulb, and proceeding to smash it straight through its core and out the other end.

Disgusting, really.

I recoiled as the plants sent thorny vines at me, reflexively covering my blind side even as Durn's jewelled shield took all the damage. I scowled at the plant in front of me. It didn't feel right to let someone take the hits for me. Right now, I felt more than capable of handling it myself. Never was any good at letting people do things for me, so I just had to suck it up and keep hitting the damn thing. The quicker it was dead the less Durn would suffer through.

"Okay, this is getting ridiculous," I grumbled, flinching as I was struck twice by long, whip-like tentacles. God, this smarts. Added in the poison from just before and I was starting to get really upset. I could already feel the tears threatening to drip down my face. Angrily wiping at them, I glared at the plant across from me. It was going down, damn it.

[Xenosaga] moves to [D-2].

"One down!" I shouted, skidding to a stop and narrowing my eyes. I then lunged forward, faster than I thought possible and in a blur, I lashed out at the plant. One, twice, three times and it was dead. The thing seemed to emit a dying cry as it slumped but I paid it no mind. I was pissed. Wiping the blood that was starting to leak from the cuts I had received, I turned my eyes toward the remaining two that Durn and Cerani were dealing with.

[Xenosaga] uses Swift Attack on Corpse Flower [2]. 8 ATK DMG. 3 hits. High Chance of Critical.

"I'll be right over there, guys!" I shouted at the two and then coughed at the streak of pain that caused me. This really was virtual reality, alright. They even got the pain down. I would have been impressed if everything didn't hurt so damn much. "How you two holding up?"

Eternal Dream: Online Empty Re: Eternal Dream: Online

Post by Allindur, the Lightfoot Mon Nov 19, 2012 8:13 pm

-Wake up, Allindur - one of us said, the Black One by the name of Antarus - We must finish this parley if you are going to stay in control.

We woke up to a large circle of stone amid an infinite meadow. A soothing dusk covered the sky, but all around in the horizon, creeping shadows layed in wait. We raised from the stone table, looking at the other parts of us.

-It has been decided my throne will be the one fueling you in this new place of mind. My body shall also be the one to have the most influence. Are you confident you can control my force?

We blinked confused, and them cast a gaze at our other parts. Confidence came to us.

-We are the only ones able to control, Antarus. We are many, and we are complete, unlike any individual parts such as you. We will do it. How do the others vote?

-I vote yes. Darkness is probably the best sollution, uh? - smiled the one part known as Alicia.

-Aye aye, I vote yes, just get on with it, man... - spoke the part of us by the name of Lune.

-I vote yes. Kill. Eat. Win. - let out with a howl our crouched part, by the name of Rage.

-I vote no, but my wishes can bear no weight against all... - the last fragment, sorrowful Valkrist, spoke.

-So it is. I grant you my Dark Blessing, Allindur. The one of many.

-We accepct and we thank you all. And so we sleep.

And we went back to sleep, under the watchful gaze of Antarus. He would not stop staring. For once, he had the upper hand.

-----

I finally woke up. Instantly I opened my eyes, suddenly counscious. All of the previous events flashed in front of my eyes in a blinding rush. The pain of paying over one thousand for a new game(that DAMN currency conversion) followed by the long time of waiting for it to arrive at the damned country I lived in. I was actually thankful they DID ship it here...there...whatever. Then the excitement as I ignored the instructions and opened the things. I would only take a look around, and then come back and look for a manual, as I always do. I could remeber the login screen, a screen name selection (easy choice), but funny enough, no class selection. Maybe it was like Ragnarök Online, and I had to start as a Novice. But then, a ridiculous torrent of light, my photofobia attacked, and oblivion.

I scratched my head, putting my thoughts in order, and could feel my hair...straighter? No much straighter, but I was familiar enough with my hair to know it was...different. Immediately I got up, had a vertigo surge and got back down. Breath in. Breath out. Ok, the world stopped spinning. Get up again. Ok, I'm different alright. Other than the fact that I'm, uh, whiter, and my hair seems to be a little straighter and dyed, I mostly look like the mental image I have of myself. Or what I was planning to look like in a couple years. But with surprisingly little tattoos. Oh, well, it's a virtual reality thing, it's just expected that my appearance is affected by my mental image of myself. And there I am, over-analyzing stuff. Whatever, I'm sexy, I like it.

Time to look around. I seem to be in some kind of...craddle? More of a nest, actually, but the word craddle just keeps sticking to my mind. It's some kind of downward faced tree, it seems, with inverted branches. Ok, so fuck biology, but not completely. Under my feet, a tangle of branches, and ground way down. It was some kind of sinister, creepy tree-prison. I love it. Looking around, corpes are hanging from everywhere. For some reason, I instantly think of faeries. Unseelie, to be precise. My view of the fae has ever been a little too serious and dark. I blame Legend of Mana and my religion for this. My first impulse is to look at the bodies, see how correct their inner anatomy is, but since this is a combat game, and with all this zombie craziness the world has been going through lately, that would be a terrible, terrible idea. I look to my clothes a little, a very sweet mix, way better than the confy stuff I was wearing at home, even if it includes short, and stumble by...a sword stuck to the wood-ground besides me? I pull it out and take a good look at it. Basic to the extreme, but by the size, it's definitely a bastard sword. My favorite. Looking around a little more, I find a sheath and a belt. I take them and go back to looking at my surroundings.

Soon, I see two more people. One of them was still blacked out, best to leave him sleeping, but a tall guy in robes was around, awoken. I fasten the belt around my waste and secure the sheath in my favorite position: at the back side. I feel a great urge to walk around with the blade in hand, oh how I love blades, but figure that is probably a bad way to aproach someone. I sheathe the sword and walk up to the guy, feeling as short as I normally do, from my (thanks the gods) unchanged one metre and seventy centimeters (that is five feet seven? something around that, I believe).

-Ahoy! So someone woke up before me, uh? - oh, so my english is by no way better here. At least I CAN comunicate...as long as this guy IS able to speak english, that is.

Eternal Dream: Online Empty Re: Eternal Dream: Online

Durn attacks Corpse Flower (4)! 5 ATK Damage!

Durn waits.

I could see Cerani growing more and more agitated as the battle lengthened. Similarly, Xeno seemed to be frustrated with the tentacles and toxins that had infected her body with ruthless germs and disease. Honestly, the only reason I hadn't broken down by that point was probably because all of the pain I had endured was all virtual, handcrafted by our endlessly-industrializing society.

I conjured yet another granite stake, and proceeded to impale Cerani's target straight into its centerpiece.

Eternal Dream: Online Empty Re: Eternal Dream: Online

I felt... strangely good. At first. The colors I had been assaulted by upon sticking the headgear on my face had not really bothered me. I always enjoyed things like that. The sudden blackness had been a bit of a put off, even more so when I felt my vision returning. I could feel the migraine coming on the second my eyes fluttered open; I knew it was going to hurt like a bitch. But once I finally rubbed my eyes and sat up, it was... lackluster. I felt good. Well... not good, a little freaked out and curious, alive maybe, but still somehow... content? That seemed like the right word for it.

The migraine was still there though. I could feel it pounding on the back of my skull like a mofo, but it did not bother me like it should have. I rubbed my eyes a little bit more, still trying to get used to everything. I just sort of sat there like that for several seconds before I realized the headgear was no longer over my eyes. "Fuck!" I could not help cursing as I scrambled onto my knees, desperately looking for the googles. Those things wiped me out financially; they could not have gotten lost already!

It once again took me a couple seconds to realize I was not exactly in my room anymore. There as a strange, almost warped-looking ground beneath my body which caused me to instantly freeze. But there was no panic as a result of this discovery, just a tranquil sense of awareness. I felt... strangely relaxed.

Maybe this was the game?

"Huh..." I voiced, looking from the ground to the rest of my surroundings, instantly repulsed by the cage-like hopelessness of the area. A tree? Unnatural and inverted, hanging onto nothingness? It was creepy!

"Yeesh!" I exclaimed, trying to find something different in the surroundings to focus on. My eyes were quick to fall on another person. A guy, probably a couple years older, in some sort of getup. And then there was someone else with him, but he looked more normal. Still, they kinda looked like they stepped right out of some fantasy world. I chuckled a little and pushed myself to my feet, smiling awkwardly. "I don't suppose you two have any idea where we are?" I asked, fidgeting from left to right.
