"Get behind me!" Kiera suddenly shouts at Rosa as a giant bolt of magical energy came flying at her. She spins around and ducks her head under her shield in an attempt to protect herself from the magical blast. The spell went haywire long before it ever hit her though, and that little shield is not nearly enough to block even a small bit of that spell from coming forth. Kiera gasps as the magic rushes over her body, scalding her skin and making her feel like she dropped into a vat of hot coals. "Agh, that burns," Kiera groans, but she keeps her attention focused. "That's not nearly enough to do me in!"

Kiera rushes forward to block off the only escape the mage had. With an awkward flourish - she still isn't quite used to holding a sword yet - she stabs the man where he stands.

Rosa saw the large blast of magickal energy come towards them as Kiera yelled at her to get back. In a rush, Rosa moved towards Kiera, but was still knocked to the ground by the impact of the blast on her comrade. If it was any degree of similar to what had been thrown at Jayce, Kiera would be similarly wounded... Rosa picked herself up only to see Kiera rushing the mage down wounded as she was. Was she crazy?! "Wait, Kiera! Don't just charge in there like that!" She moved towards Kiera and pushed out more healing energy towards the new burns, even though each of her heals thus far haven't been too effective given the severity of the damage taken.

Jayce slowly slid down the wall, gritting his teeth and punching the ground hard. I was so useless... He let out a sigh, half from being disappointed in himself, and half from the pain of being blasted several times by magic. I let them down. He closed his eyes, letting himself sit and rest for a bit. He was still in a lot of pain, definitely, but it seemed like he'd taken the brunt of the early fight from the mages. Everyone else seemed to be doing fine.

Kiera and Sophia in particular seemed to cut through their adversaries with brutal efficiency. Rosa kept everyone alive, and Samuel provided magical artillery from the back. Jayce chuckled humorlessly to himself. "Sorry," he whispered, knowing that most likely nobody would be able to hear him. He got to his feet, peeking around the corner to watch Sophia lunge at the last mage with her scythe.

"The only one messing with anything around here is you," Sam shouted, sending another blast of azure energy at the man. "Kiera, Sophia. Finish him." The words fell off his lips like acid. His mouth immediately felt strange. Did he really just say that? He had never thought about ending someone else's life before but now the opportunity sat right in front of him and he played a major role in it. Now that he saw the mage on his knees and still struggling despite their assault – now that what he was doing really registered in his head – he had to admit it felt wrong. Samuel swallowed harshly. A bitter taste. What are we doing, here?

Another haywire spell. Kiera's shield did little to help fend off this magic either, and though she could feel her skin burning and her endurance fading, she still had some fight left in her. When the effects of the magic fade away, Kiera lowers her shield and glares at the man for a moment before attacking him. Messing with forces they don't understand? Of course he would say some cliche bullshit like that. Kiera was going to open her mouth to retort with something witty, but stopped herself.

"No, dead men aren't worth my words," Kiera says with a sight before twirling her sword through the air and making a direct, upward slash against the mage's chest.

Finish him? Those words didn't feel right in Sophia's mind, but then again whether or not they felt right mattered not when that was the reality. They were going to kill this guy, just like the other one. Was it really too late to go back now? Without thinking, Sophia swiped her scythe through the air for another slash trying to do as much harm as she could to the mage.

"We definitely don't understand it but attacking us was probably the wrong way to go about this..." Sophia said softly. That was a choice he was going to regret immensely.

Sophia waits.

Rosa remained silent as Sam threw out a cold order towards Kiera and Sophia. Just what were they doing to these people? Even if there were monsters in their midst, surely they were attacking other humans like themselves who had the potential to wield magic? If these mages weren't human, then what were they? Doubt crossed her face as she looked down to the floor, half-heartedly waving her scepter in Kiera's direction and trying to heal more of the intense burns that the mage had inflicted on her. She wasn't able to keep up with such a large input, and eventually if the mage had enough stamina, Kiera would go down.
