Sonia watched as the enemies fell, leaving only the witch to fight for herself. And she could be killed this instant. A quick spell would easily bring an end to her. Sonia raised her staff, Scather flying into the air on cue. Divinity appeared near the loyal dragon, each one striking with their own special power. The witch would be dead the minute the attacks connected.

Suddenly, Maxwell stood up. Not a single stain of blood was on his robes and there was no sign of injury on his body. He brushed the dirt and dust off his robes before clearing his throat. In response, Lyra and Margaret managed to stand, but their wounds were still visible, however, they were covered in ice. Margaret healed herself and Lyra quickly while Maxwell spoke. "Well. What a shame. We lost." He gazed out over the party before stepping back and turning around to go inside the hideout. Within minutes, he was back out, but this time, with a large burlap sack, the contents struggling violently. Slightly irritated, Maxwell slammed the sack onto the ground and gave it a mighty kick sending it hurtling towards the party.

Lyra and Margaret headed back into the hideout without another word. "That's what you came here for, correct? The girl?" Maxwell asked aloud. "With no money," he added flatly, then shrugged his shoulders. "Oh well. It's not like our profits depend on this single capture. There's always money to be made elsewhere."

Sonia was untying the sack they had kicked over. Nina, inside had stopped squirming after the kick, probably in pain. But as the burlap sack was taken from the form, the girl inside stopped cringing.

"You came!"

Before anyone could speak, the future Seraph Knight was clutching her sister. An embrace larger than any bear hug. Cage came over and nodded slightly, still eyeing the hideout.

"Of course we came. we weren't going to let them hurt you."

Nina teared up but wiped it away and resumed hugging Sonia as tightly as she could. Finally she let go, reaching into her back pocket.

"I almost forgot."

Nina unwrapped the item, revealing a stone the color of fire. It even seemed to have a flame burning inside. Sonia looked at the stone almost mistified, but then she shook her head. She looked up at her sister who had a huge smile plastered to her face.

"Happy Birthday Sonia!"

What?

Her birthday... oh... how could she even forget. I guess it could be easy, what with the insane scientist, the kidnapping, Oliver, and the tablet. The Tablet. Somewhat shocked, Sonia amazingly took out the Tablet, and the stone jumpped from Nina's hands. It inserted itself in the tablet.

"Thanks Nina. But where-"

"It's a secret."

Before Sonia could say anything, Nina was on her feet, looking at the rest of the party.

"So what did you get Sonia for her Birthday?"

"Well?"

Nina scanned each of the party members. Overall, there were two other females, and a ghost. Not wishing to encounter the ghost just yet, Nina walked up to the first female. The Archer, who hadn't said anything or done anything yet.

"What did you get Sonia?"

"Humph. Whatever, you don't look like any friend of Sonia's anyway."

Nina proceeded to move onto the other allies. She debated over whether to ask the ghost. But then she looked back over at the fencer. She didn't feel like going on to the spirit just yet, so she chose to go onto the fencer.

"You seem much nicer than her. What did you get Sonia?"

A smile. "Well, now. Sounds like you're in quite the predicament," a female voice said. It was Lyra, the enchantress. She was sitting atop the meteorite that the archer apprentice was leaning on. "Ungrateful friends? Well, they don't sound like friends at all. No ma'am," she continued, her grin only growing. With a huff, she leapt down and landed in front of Lily. "You sure showed us," she said nonchalantly while looking around. "You work well enough with them. Why would you need friendship? It's not like it's worth anything. I'm only in the kidnapping business for the money; I couldn't care less about Maxwell."

Lyra then focused her gaze on Lily's face. "Why are you even traveling around with them? Is it truly worth it? It seems as though you've thought about this before."

Valincar was growing worried. Rosetta was a quiet girl, but she had a quick temper and he knew it. He just hoped a scrape wouldn't break out. Lily was growing impatient; she was already somewhere else, probably on the path back to town. What would he give Sonia for her birthday? He hadn't even known. Now, he was stuck out in the middle of nowhere with no gift and nowhere to get one. What would Sonia want from you? he asked himself in his mind. Then, an idea formed in his head. It was a long shot, but something told him that Sonia would be very pleased.

"It seems you have nothing. Whatever then. Another person like the huffy girl..."

It seemed none of them had anything for Sonia. Which was a let down for the younger sibling. It wasn't her birthday, but she still wanted Sonia to get something nice. Especially since these were her friends, though friends was quite a strech for the archer.

Turning to the spirit she smiled. He was the last one. And hopefully he would give her older sister something. The young girl walked up to him, getting a slight chill, but ignoring it.

"Please tell me you got something for Sonia."

Lyra tilted her head as she listened to Lily's answer. It was well versed. "Sounds like you've had a rough time," she offered in response. "Yes, I am in it for the money. There may be other ways of making it, but what makes those ways different from the one I have chosen?" Her listless eyes looked up towards the gray skies. She had known that fact for a long time, and she could not have counted the many times she had spoken that question. "Many people consider what I do as 'evil' or 'immoral.' I am a villain in the magnificent play called life. But what defines one as good or evil? Why am I the bad one...?" She paused a moment to get herself under control. It was easy enough.

Lyra shook her head. "The point is that we have both chosen our respective paths. I am curious to see whether you stay with these folks or not. I might just have to keep an eye on you all." She offered a smile, one without malice or ill will. "Oh, and just so you know: even though Maxwell puts on that tough guy act, he'll be depressed for a while, so no kidnappings for a week or two. I needed a vacation anyway, so I should thank you." She bowed jokingly, her hat tumbling off her head and landing on the ground. Surprisingly, a frog jumped out of it and hopped away. Lyra gave a little chuckle.

Valincar nodded at Nina. "I have nothing of material value of which to bestow upon your sister, but there is something I must give her that may just satisfy the calling of her heart...and my own." With that, the nightshade hovered slowly over to Sonia. "I cannot even fathom how this will go, but I must try. You deserve it, and I would be honored to do it." The air grew a tad bit colder as Valincar began drawing in energy so he could manifest in a physical form. He touched Sonia's arm gently, his hand not passing through it. It was done. He leaned in and placed his mouth next to Sonia's ear. "Happy birthday," he whispered. He then touched Sonia's cheek with his cold hand and softly planted his lips upon hers. It was only for a few seconds, but he had done it. A kiss. He pulled back as he started to feel his grasp on the energy fading. Within seconds, he was intangible once again, the temperature in the air slowly returning to normal.

Lyra spun on her heel and looked in the direction Lily was looking at only to see people standing around like usual. "Hm. I do have to say that was...odd." The enchantress reached down and picked up her, brushing some dead grass off of it. "I would be happy to spar with you again sometime, but...," she started, but stopped short. It was a difficult thing to ask someone who was an enemy not too long ago. Or was she? They weren't really 'enemies.' They just had conflicting interests. But now....

"It seems to me that you must have quite the fierce battles with these guys. Otherwise, you'd be gone." She took a moment to build up her courage. The outcome could be undesirable. "Since I've got a couple of weeks off the job, perhaps I could join you and your...allies, just to see what it's all about? I could use the extra money, too. It is an unpaid vacation, after all." Lyra shot Lily a nervous smile. It was quite the question indeed.

Lyra chuckled a bit. "Oh, she needs to learn to let things go if she's always like that. Grudges are never fun." The enchantress shivered as thoughts of a certain shaman she had the pleasure to know filled her mind. "Would you mind if I joined you? Would you really not care?" Lyra asked Rosetta, her tone skeptical. Then again, just looking at this girl was as good as any answer. She seemed like she wouldn't care about a lot of things, but would she be so accepting of this proposition?

"Aww that's sooooo sw-"

Nina was grabbed by Cage, who merely nodded in a disapproving way at the young girl. He then looked to the others for a moment.

"I'll take Nina home. I'll catch up with you all another time."

But Sonia had heard none of it. The minute the temperature dropped, fireworks went off. The minute Valincar had hardly touched her arm, she felt a shiver. And as his words, though almost meaningless when said by the others in her life, made her melt. And the kiss. Oh the kiss. It was like Heaven. She had never been kissed. Nor had she ever felt the way she did now before. As he moved away from her, a huge blush came over her face, she opened her mouth to speak, but only breath came forth. But in her mind, words she couldn't say just yet were said over and over again. Eventually she found the energy to speak.

"I love you... I mean... Thank you. That was the best Gift I've received..."

She blushed further. She wished she could kiss him back, but he was intangible now. Suddenly noticing the group that had gathered around the Enchantress, Sonia cocked her head to the side.

"I... I wonder what they're up to..."

Valincar smiled at Sonia. "I'm glad I could have at least give that to you," he said gently. That's when he noticed that Rosetta and Lily were chatting with the enchantress, Lyra. That was strange. He became quite curious. "I say we join them to see what all the talk is about." With that, he hovered over to the small group.

The snow finally stopped. "I thank you for your kind remarks, Rosetta," Lyra said with a smile. "I will definitely do my best should I have the chance to join you all." That's when she noticed it had stopped snowing. "Looks like Maxwell has finally decided to go inside. His magic isn't working anymore. Oh no. When I come back, we're going to have to do some sort of training montage to get stronger." Her palm collided with her face in awful realization. "Maybe he'll let me off the hook if I prove that I've gotten more powerful while travelling around with you all."

"What's going on everyone?" Valincar asked curiously as he managed to reach the trio. "Something interesting?" He didn't seem fazed by the fact that Lily and Rosetta were talking with the kidnapping enchantress. He just wanted to know what was up. If things seemed tense, he'd probably be concerned, but everything seemed...nice, so he just acted as if everything was normal.

Sonia was quick to follow Valincar. As she heard that the witch might be joining, her grip on the staff tightened. She looked at the witch for the longest time, wondering if she should even bother asking a favor. She decided it would get her no where.

"I... I'm alright... with her joining... no need to worry..."

In truth she wasn't overly excited about it. But the group seemed to want her. And in truth, it would help with the request they were about to do. Losing her grip, she nodded at the witch.

"It... It's good... well... I... I know you will be helpful..."

Lyra snapped her fingers and her broom appeared in a puff of smoke which she mounted quickly. She then hovered over to Valincar and circled around him once. Before stopping, she poked him in the eye only to have her finger go right through it. Afterwards, she hovered over next to Lily. "A ghost? Hmmm...is he your leader or something? Of your faction, that is?" She kept scrutinizing the nightshade. She was used to the paranormal, but it was always fascinating regardless of that fact.

Valincar tried to keep a straight face throughout Lyra's little investigation, but he ended up laughing at the end. "I suppose you could call me the leader," he said, still laughing. "Despite our little mishap here, I think it would be great if you could join us. You really displayed a great deal of power. Consider yourself part of the team...for now. K still has to approve you." He turned and faced the path leading back to town. "Is everyone ready? I'm sure the others are getting worried about us by now."
