Tales of Alidaire: The Chase - Page 20 Empty Re: Tales of Alidaire: The Chase

"Are you really coming this close to me?" Auza asked the snake that slithered up closer to her. That rattler was in for a surprise, because Auza wasn't feeling particularly merciful towards it. In fact, she was about to do two different things to it that would surely debilitate it significantly. She snapped her fingers once, conjuring glyphs that spotted the reptile, sinking in to take control of its nervous system. She wanted to disable it. Another snap of her fingers and a glyph in front of her appeared, shooting out dark tendrils of mana that drilled into the snake and began sapping away at its energy.

Auza casts Seal on Xico! Disables target!

Auza casts Drain on Xico! Absorbs 1/2 of 1/3 of target's mana each turn!

MP: 28/100

Auza didn't bother moving away from the snake. The odds were in her favor at the present moment, and she wasn't worried about anything the snake could do to her. Her barrier prevented her from getting poisoned, and the magical properties would actually reflect the poison back to the snake, though that probably didn't matter. Auza looked back at the two creatures she attacked before. Both of them were completely still, not moving an inch. Her magic had worked well on them, and rightfully so. Auza's magic was much more powerful than these beasts.

Macha took the full torrent of the snakes' attacks, managing to dodge one of them amidst the chaos. She was thankful for the barrier she bestowed upon herself. It was definitely the right thing to do. "Mm, seems like I'm so popular," the blademaster spoke with a smirk upon her face. Taking her attention to one of the rattlers close to her, she poised her blade to strike and let it go, slashing and hacking with as much precision as she could muster. By the end of her assault, it seemed as though the poor thing was barely hanging on to life, and that had to be rectified. Turning to Henry, she waved her hand at the snakes surrounding her. "Care to lend a hand, oh enraged Henry?"

Macha waits.

Henry uses The Ravaged! Hits all enemies! 39 Dmg! (INT) [Chance of Severe Burn][Chance of Frail]

MP: 22/80

A nod was exhibited by Henry, a sign that he might be returning to his senses. Still, in his state, he was pretty much ready to wreck any snake he could find, primarily the one that had cursed him into his current frame of mind. Knowing that his skill would hit that very snake, he unleashed. He recalled a story and told it: barren wastes, a bestial hero, a vengeful goddess that was poor at her job. It was just a small portion of the whole tale, but the effect was great. A blazing wave of energy surged outwards hitting pretty much every enemy that was around. As soon as it was over, Henry blinked and shook his head.

"Phew, I'm glad that's over. I hate to be overly violent," he explained, brushing off his nice coat. He definitely spoke the truth. When it was required of him, he didn't mind getting rough, but he preferred a much more passive role in battle. He left all the hurting and anguish-inflicting to his brother.

Henry waits.

Klein moves to I6.

While the others had their hands full, Klein kept his focus on the one snake in front of him. The last thing Macha needed right now was another thing trying to attack her. Lunging forth, Klein concentrated all of his energy to deal two powerful slashes before switching his sword to his other hand for another, more quickly executed slice. "Keep your eyes on me, buddy. I'm the biggest threat to you right now!" Klein warned, brandishing his blade dangerously to keep the snake's focus on him.

Klein uses Trick Blade on Diels! 3 hits! 33 Dmg! 33 Dmg! 50 Dmg! CRITICAL!! (ATK)

MP: 0/50

Auza paused for a moment, looking back at Henry. He was unleashing quite a bit of mana. There wasn't much else for her to do, so she raised her hand and snapped her fingers, drawing a glyph above his head that showered a fine, purple dust all around him, restoring his mana reserves slowly and gradually. It would last for quite a while, too, so that would help quite a bit.

Auza casts Restoring Bonds on Henry! Grants MP Regen!

MP: 45/100

With not much else to do, Auza began moving around Henry, getting closer to the creatures that she stopped. With two snaps of her fingers, her needle-like projections shot into the body of one of the creatures, piercing through its spirit, which was quite weak.

Auza moves to F-6

Henry moves to G5.

Slowly but surely, Henry could feel the effects of Auza's magic taking effect. He had burnt quite a bit of mana in his rage, though it was the same as when he munched through mana for supporting his allies, so he was used to it. "Thank you very much, Miss Auza. I shall try not to make waste," he said to the woman, bowing his head in gratefulness as he took a step forward. Taking his quill, he started writing some rather jovial material, something that would get anyone upbeat. In an instant, Macha was relieved of her affliction from the snake. Smiling, Henry then drove the story to grow rather tense, this time his thoughts focused on Klein. A burst of energy surrounded the swordsman. "There we are. I hope that does well for everybody. Looks like we don't have much more to go," he stated, clearly satisfied with the way everything was going.

Macha moves to D5.

Auza's magic that held the gliders frozen in time had finally worn off, and though they seemed to be rather weakened, it was a horrid mistake to underestimate. She slid beneath the glider before her and stood up quickly when she was behind it. Sidling over, she launched a few strikes at the other glider's back before chaining a quick myriad of other slashes as well, hoping to put it out of its misery. "Be a good girl and let Death take you away, mmkay?" Macha chimed evilly as she kept her blade expertly at the ready. She had to be sure not to let her guard down until it was completely over with.

Klein moves to I4.

Klein stabbed his sword in the ground but for a mere moment in order to perform a backflip. "WOOOO!!! That's what I'm talking about!!" he exclaimed excitedly before retrieving his sword and using his seemingly limitless vitality to speed over to the snake that had fled from Macha's wrath. "Thanks for the boost, Henry. Let's see some more action!!" With the snake clearly before him, he lashed out with his blade twice, trying to put as much effort into the attack as possible. Leaving the snake to do as it pleased was obviously not a good idea, so he hoped to put a final end to it, though he wasn't sure just how plausible that endeavor happened to be.

Klein attacks Xico! 2 hits! 27 Dmg per hit! (ATK)

Tales of Alidaire: The Chase - Page 20 Empty Re: Tales of Alidaire: The Chase

Post by Zerifachias Wed May 02, 2012 1:23 pm

With her magic that was holding the two flying creatures halted in time gone, Auza had to focus on those. But first, Klein could still be poisoned by the snake that was remaining, and it wouldn't be wise to leave him in such a vulnerable condition. With a wave of her beads, Auza renewed the glyph that protected him before and supplied it with fresh mana, to keep it activated for a little while longer.

Auza casts Bonds of Protection on Klein! Bestows Immunity!

MP: 57/100

It wasn't as necessary to renew Macha's glyph, because she wasn't attacking something that posed a threat. Or, at least wouldn't pose a threat. Snapping her fingers, Auza surrounded the flying creature's body with a scattered assortment of glyphs that worked away at its nervous system, attempting to shut it down.

Macha moves to A2.

"Oh, a game of tag? This doesn't seem like the time for games, but what can we do?" Macha closed her eyes an evilly joyous grin spread across her face. She began dashing off in an effort to circumnavigate the stream of water that the glider was so easily able to fly over. "Mm, I hope it doesn't take off again. With all this water around, I won't be able to catch it until its able to fight back again." The thought was troubling, and her gaze fell upon Henry. Perhaps they needed a necromancer's touch for the time being?

Macha waits.

Henry moves to F3.

It was obvious that the earthen flier was intent to make defeating it as hard as possible, and he felt Macha's fierce eyes upon him. It made him a bit uncomfortable. Maybe I can help out in a different way now, he thought as he suddenly drew nearer to the stream. He held the Apocrypha out in front of him and opened it up. The signature green wind emerged from it, swirling about his form until he was completely gone, whisked away to the realm within the book. It remained hovering in the air for a moment before the second wind came out of it, swirling around empty air until it dissipated to reveal a dissatisfied Vincent, a grimace set in stone upon his face.

Henry uses Brother! [Summons Vincent to F4]

MP: 6/80

Vincent uses Summon Lich! [Summons Lich to F3]

MP: 69/75

"I was wondering if I was going to be needed," Vincent spoke, keeping each word heavily weighed down with his tone. Eyes shooting towards the flying creature that was proving to be a hassle, Vincent began moving his hands about in front of him, his body rising into the air. Bursts of darkness surged out of the ground and surrounded him. Flashing red glyphs carved themselves in the air and disappeared as Vincent directed the magic. When the spell was complete, Vincent slammed a palm into the ground. In a final burst of darkness, a skeleton appeared in front of him donning rather fanciful robes with plenty of amulets and medallions. He slammed his staff into the ground and kept his eyes trained on the enemy.

"Lich, try to keep that thing under control, will you?" Vincent ordered dismissively, pleased to see his summoned creature nod in affirmation.

Vincent waits.

Klein moves to J6.

"Looks like just about everything's trying to run away. We must be too much for them!!" Klein yelled out triumphantly, thrusting his fist into the air. He chased down the snake that was foolish enough to try and flee and sliced at it twice with his sword. The hits still weren't landing where he wanted them to, but everything was all right. He was tired of being bothered by it. He was having fun putting the reptile in its place regardless, and that was all that mattered at the moment.

Klein attacks Xico! 2 hits! 25 Dmg per hit! (ATK)

Auza moves to G-7

She may as well help out Klein. It wasn't like she could do much else, and with her casting two spells at once, she could really dole out some basic damage to the spirits of those still battling. Though she probably didn't need the two spells. Auza snapped her fingers a few times, causing four of her magic needles to penetrate the reptile that Klein was fighting, effectively ending it. Or at least Auza thought.

Auza attacks Xico! 19 Int DMG! 4 hits! Chance of Silence!

"Perhaps I should have ignored you and tried to immobilize the other beast, hm?" Auza wondered aloud, mostly towards Klein. It wasn't a big deal though, Klein probably understood that Auza knew that this might happen, yet still chose to protect him from poison. Auza was poisoned once, so she knew the feeling. It wasn't very fun.

Vincent moves to H4.

Though severely despising it, Vincent approached Klein. He didn't want to be anywhere near the fool, for he was afraid that such close contact would surely melt some of his brains. "Try to stay out of the way," the necromancer shot at him coolly before turning his focus towards the last remaining beast. Vincent held out a single hand and conjured a dark glyph that rotated quickly, drawing in dark energy from around. When it was charged to its fullest, Vincent slammed it into the ground, a myriad of shadowy shapes surging out of the ground from below the flying creature. They wailed and clawed at the beast, trying to tear away the very luck from its essence.

The goal was to keep the creature from moving about so that the focused fighters could catch up to it and destroy it. His master had chosen the right being for the job. The skeleton held out a bony hand towards the glider and clenched it into a fist. Large blocks of ice shot up all around the creature, holding it tight in its place. All that was left was to hope that it would not escape.

"I think you made the right choice," Klein offered nervously to Auza, ignoring Vincent's harsh words. "See? Vincent and his skeleton thing have it under control. Not like I'm done just yet either," he said before turning on his heel and rushing up to the hopefully immobilized creature. As he skidded to a halt, he slashed at the flying beast twice, still missing the vitals. A mental groan flew through his mind, but he just had to stay calm. Remember, you're tired of being bothered by it, he told himself. If he got too bogged down in all the bad things, it would make his performance even worse.

Klein moves to I2.

Klein attacks Wern! 2 hits! 25 Dmg per hit! (ATK)

Macha moves to E4.

"Ha! Ask and you shall receive," Macha exclaimed to herself before dashing off towards the others. The beast had still created quite a bit of distance between her and it, and she was glad to have such an agile nature so she could cover that very distance more quickly. "Oh, dark and tall and scary. Don't insult my student. He's doing the best he can, mmkay~?" she reprimanded Vincent. She was pretty aware now that the two didn't get along, though Klein seemed to be the bigger man in this instance; Vincent was just being petty. Macha detested petty men. It made them look like the fools.

Macha waits.

Auza moves to I-7

"I have a word of advice for you, Klein,"
Auza spoke cooly, her eyes flashing dangerously. A glyph appeared in front of her as she stopped walking, directly behind Klein and the flying beast. Mana began to stockpile in the center of the very large glyph she conjured. "Duck," The concentrated energy fired a beam, streaking towards the last remaining creature and tearing through its spirit, ripping it to shreds. The magic soon abated, revealing the damage done.

The moment Auza had addressed him, he knew something bad was coming. When she told him to duck, he hit the ground hard, lying flat on his stomach, his sword arm stretched out to the side. He shivered as he could feel the sheer force of her attack right above him as it headed straight for the glider. As soon as he felt it was over, he stood back up and brushed himself off. "Well, I definitely appreciate the warning," he replied with a laugh before turning his attention to the glider. It was still up and in a fighting mood, so he lashed out at it a couple more times before dodging out of the way. He was sure Macha would want her revenge upon it as well, and there wasn't a lot of room for more than just him.

Klein moves to J3.

Macha moves to I2.

Macha rushed past Vincent and took her student's place in front of the large earth creature. It was an oddity of a creature, capable of burrowing beneath the ground, yet fly as well. It was something she never encountered before on her travels. "Oh, that matters not. You've been a naughty boy with all this running around. Time to take your due punishment," she started nicely before her voice took on a more irritated tone. She growled as she unleashed a blinding torrent of slashes upon the hopelessly immobilized beast, pouring out all her frustration while still keeping her skills sharp.

Vincent refrained from saying anything in reply to Macha's scolding, or when she brutally rushed past him. It took a lot of self-control, but...he managed. Instead, he focused his anger on the beast who had dodged his spell with ease. "Dodge my stuff, will you? Let's try this again," he growled before holding his hand out again. He formed another glyph that gathered more and more darkness until he was ready to slam it into the ground. More phantasms arose from the ground to ravage the flying creature, once again threatening to steal its luck away.

Vincent waits.

Lich attacks Wern! 2 hits! 22 Dmg per hit! (INT)

Pulling his staff back, Lich swung the thing forwards twice causing it to shoot out two spheres of neutralized mana that would hopefully crash into the beast for some extra damage. With all the group attacking the one being, he was sure it wouldn't be lasting any longer than it already had.

Lich waits.

Well, now it was Macha's turn to duck. Auza contemplated giving her a fair warning, and decided that it was probably a good idea to do so. Demi could move around her allies, but that required skill and a lot of concentration. It would be easier just to tell the others to dodge rather than changing the direction of the beam, and with them so close to the enemy, it would only lessen the hit rate.

The same glyph, the same magic, and the warning, "Macha, I suggest dodging this," before the beam was released. Auza's raw intelligence power at work.

Tales of Alidaire: The Chase - Page 20 Empty Re: Tales of Alidaire: The Chase

Post by Masquerade Wed May 02, 2012 5:26 pm

While the others rested or what have them, Macha scavenged some items from the enemies. "Ouch, my that hurt," the blademaster yelped as she tried to pull a rock off of one of the gliders only to wind up cutting herself on it. She had managed to pull it free, but handling it was difficult. As soon as she was sure it was set, she tucked it away so she wouldn't have to touch it. She also went about skinning the snakes and collecting some of their venom.

In the meantime, Klein took a seat on the dusty ground for a moment to catch his breath. "These lands are just as dangerous as the ones back in Dalmaschior," he commented, his voice tinted with relief that the little skirmish was over. He didn't particularly care for snakes, and now he didn't care for them even more.

"Miss Auza, did you enjoy living in Dalmaschior before coming here?" Henry inquired with Vincent obviously back in the book. "I've never been off of Berbatu. It's so strange to think that there are so many lands I have yet to see," he explained before awaiting Auza's response to his little question.

"I can't say that I lived in Dalmaschior," Auza admitted, remaining where she stood. Her legs were strong despite their size, she could stand for hours before feeling fatigue. It was required to have a strong, upright posture when practicing magic. "I'm from a much more distant land, I doubt you've even heard of it. I won't bore you with the details, but Dalmaschior isn't a place to travel alone." Auza looked past Henry and towards Macha for a moment. She was still busy with the beasts. Before Macha came along, Auza was the one searching the bodies for useful ingredients and items, but Macha was much more talented at it than she.

"But yes, I enjoyed traveling in Dalmaschior. The people are much different from those in Berbatu."

Tales of Alidaire: The Chase - Page 20 Empty Re: Tales of Alidaire: The Chase

Henry nodded, a bit of awe shining in his eyes. "I hope I get the chance to see it someday," he replied with a smile. "I'll make sure not to go by myself, seeing as how there are monsters there too apparently. It's always nice to have some company anyway." The smile never faded from his face. He felt strangely happy to just be wandering around with the group, even though their final destination was drawing nearer and nearer. Hmm, I wonder what I should do then. Maybe we can hang out in Naik Dataran for a while? he thought, posing a question to Vincent who was more than likely listening in.

Sounds fine by me. We have no limit to where we can go except...well, the only place we're not welcome, Vincent scoffed. Menyaran was the last place Vincent would be caught dead even going near. It was true that he had made a grave error, but the people seriously tried to throw him off the mountain. If it weren't for Henry, he would most likely have been lost forever. Just do whatever you want.

Macha approached the group having collected all that she could. "Well, I'm through with my little hunt. I managed to nab some nice materials," she informed Auza and the others. "Shall we move on? I'm sure we can reach the Jemba Hara by noon, or at little after at the latest."

Klein groaned as he stood and brushed his clothes off. The ground was rather dusty after all. "I'm certainly ready to go whenever." He turned to face Henry. "I plan on going back to Dalmaschior some day, kid. Maybe I'll take you when I go back?" Klein laughed as he watched the grin grow on Henry's face. It was so big, he thought the kid was going to explode.

"Good, the sooner we can get there, the better," Auza nodded towards Macha. She liked having places to go, and always wanted to get there quickly. Auza led a very busy life, with the whole demon hunting job she took so much pride in. Very few took on the job as a demon hunter, so the population had to be controlled by very few.

I will not return to Dalmaschior, if I can help it, Auza thought to herself, listening in to Henry and Klein. There is nothing for me there.

Tales of Alidaire: The Chase - Page 20 Empty Re: Tales of Alidaire: The Chase

With everyone recovered from the run-in with the native monsters of the river lands, the group persisted onwards under the blazing morning sun. The numerous rocks, shrubs, and streams continued on just like the party happened to be. There seemed to be no escape from Sungai Tanah's scenery. However, after a while of traveling, a large rope bridge could be seen leading to what appeared to be another giant hunk of land--the mainland of Berbatu. Upon getting closer to the bridge, the Jemba Hara, it could be seen that the wooden planks were in very good condition. Whoever took care of the bridge did a fantastic job. The wind was rather strong near the fissure that separated the two portions of Berbatu, but the bridge was taut and resistant to the force of the vicious gales. The party stopped for just a brief moment to gaze upon the Jemba Hara, but in that single moment, everything went awry.

"Her Majesty has denied you passage into the area of the Naik Dataran," a smooth voice hissed from above them. In a sweltering cloud of shadows emerged none other than the Desert Rose's serpentine dragon. There was a horridly sinister gleam in his eye. He gave none a chance to respond before opening his mouth and letting loose a powerful roar. With that single action, the winds were whipped into a tizzy, blowing every which a way with speeds that could only be found in such storms as hurricanes and tornadoes. The party could only brace themselves the best they could, but it was no use. The winds sent them tumbling over the cliff and into the waters below...

"By my power, her will has been carried out. Enjoy eternity in the afterlife, humans," the dragon sneered before twisting up in itself and disappearing in a burst of shadows.

Klein, Henry, Vincent, and Macha have left the party!

The sound of drops of water hitting the stone floor echoed throughout the place. Crystals in the wall harbored mana and used that energy to glow, filling the cavern with a beautiful, ethereal light. Water shimmered and sparkled in a small, clear lagoon at the edge of the cavern, one that led out into the sea. In the center of this particular cavern sat a single man: jet black hair, intriguing garments, and calculating dark red eyes. Before him lied a short woman with extremely long black hair, her garments just as black and soaked completely. She had been given a pillow to rest her head upon, for the floor was much too hard. A fire had been built nearby to help keep both of the people warm, though it seemed at the point where it was dying down.

"It is unbelievable that you managed to stumble upon this place," the voice of the man resounded through the cavern, echoing off the walls. It was Wallace Night, the demonologist. His words were addressed to the woman, clearly unconscious, at least for the moment. "I cannot fathom what awful event would have you wash up in these caverns..." His voice trailed off as he thought over the possibilities. Was it the work of demons? No, he would have felt their presence up above. This was the work of something else. There wasn't much he could do for the moment. Keeping her comfortable until she came too was his best effort, for he knew of no recovery magic.

A sigh escaped his lips and he closed his eyes in slight anguish. What if she didn't wake up? "Miss Nanami, if you can hear me, please...open your eyes," he leaned in closer to the unconscious woman and spoke softly, but loud enough for her to hear.

Tales of Alidaire: The Chase - Page 20 Empty Re: Tales of Alidaire: The Chase

Auza never expected this. She was always waiting for the moment when they would once again come in contact with the Desert Rose and her dragon pet. But in this manner? Never once. As she fell, she remembered, and with an outstretched hand, she could protect herself with magic. But no, her senses were frozen. Down she fell, and her consciousness faded.

-

Awake again, in an expanse of lush greenery. She stood by the knelt figure of a man with crisp brown hair that didn't know how to lie flat. His angled face gazed up at her and he smiled. "You look troubled, Auza. Tell me what you have forgotten." He said, his voice ringing like the threads of a harp. Auza didn't reply, her gaze elsewhere. The man stood up, and placed his hand on top of her head, immediately garnering her full attention and a growl.

"I told you to stop that," Auza growled again, pushing the man's large hand off of her head. He laughed in response. "Veijn, I have not forgotten anything. I do not forget."

"What is troubling you, Auza?" Veijn asked, his expression sincere. He knelt down again so he was at Auza's eye level, for he was extremely tall.

"I can feel a disturbance in a distant land," Auza finally answered, after much hesitation. Her eyes drifted off towards the source of the pressure she felt. "The demon count is increasing abnormally."

"Certainly not in Dalmaschior?" Veijn suggested, raising an eyebrow. "We have all but dealt with the demons here, surely they are not stupid enough to come here?"

"No, the pressure is very distant and weak," Auza shook her head, closing her eyes to better sense the pressure. "Perhaps we should travel to where they are?"

"And then what?" Veijn asked with a tilt of his head, "Shall we hunt demons for the rest of our lives? Never settling down, never resting? Auza, you must realize that there are better things in life than hunting demons."

"This again, Veijn?"

"Auza, why don't you take a year or two break? We could spend that time relaxed, without stress or worry." Veijn placed a hand on Auza's tiny shoulder, his eyes sparkling, "We'll at least experience some happiness, right? Oh come on, don't give me that look. I'm serious, you know."

The vision warped, blurring out and changing, Auza's reply now just a incoherent thought. The focus began to sharpen again, and the body of Veijn lies on the scarred ground, Auza's hands on his torn chest. Burns marked his body from head to toe, with no breaks in between. His messy brown hair was gone, and his eyes were fried. The only water that could be seen on his body was his chest, where Auza's tears had fallen, and continue to fall.

The body of a demon, trapped by powerful magics, lay on the ground some distance away. Its flesh was fire, its eyes were fire, the entire body of the demon was lit up like a bonfire. Auza trapped it there, but only because of Veijn's sacrifice. The price was too much.

Auza stood up, tears still streaking down her sides. She raised a burnt arm, her translucent beads glimmering powerfully. "From this point on," Auza spoke strongly, her voice stern and filled with rage. "I am the servant of Oblivion, and swear my life to the eradication of demons who do not know their place in this world! So give me my own dimension of Abyss, where I will be able to torture the souls of these foul demons for the rest of time! When my body gives way, my spirit will pass on to this dimension, named Eternia, and there I will begin punishing the wicked deeds of demons such as this one!"

From Auza's beads, a bright light shone, the white light blinding everything around until it all went black again, where nothing existed. From the darkness, a voice, weakened by exertion of power, spoke: "For the creation of Eternia, I give my knowledge, my power, so that I must restart my life and regain my abilities. When my power reaches its peak, I will go to Eternia and begin my own eternity of torture."

-

Auza stirred, her heavy eyelids slowly opening, greeted with two things, one which made her heart throb. The first, an ethereal light that illuminated her surroundings, obviously a cavern from a brief look. Her eyes were captured by the sight of Wallace Night, who was hovering over her, concern written upon his face. She was surprised to see him, very surprised.

"Wallace Night?" Auza was glad her memory wasn't affected too badly, but could have done without the dream. The same dream she had every night that she slept so deeply. Auza didn't say anymore, only stared up in masked wonder at the man. She never expected to see him here. Actually, she never expected to be here herself. Was this where his hideout was? It was a possibility, but Auza wouldn't make any assumptions until her mind cleared enough to form a coherent thought.

Tales of Alidaire: The Chase - Page 20 Empty Re: Tales of Alidaire: The Chase

It seemed Wallace's words had reached her after all as he heard Auza speak his name. He felt much more at ease that she was going to be okay, and allowed himself a sigh of relief now. "Yes, it is I. I knew our paths would cross again, but I do believe these circumstances to be a bit...much. The Fates must surely have their eyes upon you, playing their wicked tricks as they are apt to do." The demonologist arose, taking a few bits of wood that he happened to have near him and placed them on the fire to keep it burning just a bit longer. It was the last of the wood he had regardless. He hadn't expected to rest at the lagoon for long.

"Try not to get too excited now," Wallace advised, placing his hand gently upon her forehead to get her temperature. "You seem to be doing decent enough, but it will not do to overdo it so quickly after awakening." The only way he could think of her winding up down in this place was falling over the edge of the cliff up above. Auza did not strike him as the careless type at all. There was much more to the story than he had first thought, and he was intent to figure out what it was, but he didn't want to pressure her too much. "If you are able to recall, Miss Nanami, could you tell me how you found yourself in this place?"

Regardless of who the person was, Auza was a bit finicky when it came to people touching her, especially her head. But her head was fogged up, from the fall down to her revisiting that memory. Veijn's death was her motivation for becoming what she is now, but that didn't mean she liked revisiting the memory every time she fell asleep.

Wallace wanted to hear what happened to her, so Auza closed her eyes again and began to focus, slowly remembering the details of her fall. "I and my comrades were up on the cliff, about to cross over on the bridge to get to Naik Dataran. We were stopped by a large dragon, the pet of the Desert Rose, and he blew us all off the cliff."

Auza opened her eyes and took a quick look around. She did not see her allies nearby. "It seems that I was separated from the others. The last thing I remember was falling into the water below." The dragon certainly did a shoddy job of killing them, though one would think a fall such as that would kill anyone. Luckily for Auza, she did not weight much, and her barrier must have protected her from at least some of the fall damage.

Tales of Alidaire: The Chase - Page 20 Empty Re: Tales of Alidaire: The Chase

At hearing the name 'Desert Rose', Wallace's face became rather serious. He remained silent for a quite a few minutes, delving into the depths of his mind for...something. It took him a while to realize how lost in thought he had become and snapped himself out of it. "My apologies. I was just registering all of that information. Desert Rose. She is the one that has been designated as a mark by the governments of the colonizing nations. I have heard that she possesses quite an immense amount of power. The fact that she is targeting you must mean she has something against you, but I will not pry," Wallace spoke intently, his tone softening just a tad near the end. Now was not the time to bombard Auza with questions, especially since she had just come to. At the mention of the others, Wallace became a bit worried. No one else had washed up in the cavern through the lagoon, at least not while he had been around.

"I am afraid that I have not seen any of your companions," Wallace stated solemnly, shaking his head. "They are either somewhere in these caverns, or..." his voice trailed off again. Though Auza knew of the possibility to be sure, he couldn't bring himself to say it. "I prefer to be called a realist, but just this once, let us assume they are somewhere in the cavern. As soon as you feel good enough to walk about, I'll accompany you through the cavern to see if we can find them. I have a task of my own to complete while we are down here."

"Perhaps she is targeting me because I am interfering with her work?" Auza suggested, pushing herself up into an upright position. She was tired of laying down, but her head started aching, so she didn't move much more than that. Auza probably hit her head on the fall down. She ignored his comment about her allies, she already knew what might have happened to them. As for standing to look for them, she needed a bit more time to clear her mind. In the meantime... "You know that she is being targeted by the governments, but do you know that she is the one responsible for the increase in demons in this area? That dragon informed me of that much a little while ago, sometime after we first met."

Auza held out her hand and reached into Eternia, eventually summoning enough power to cause the golden cat trophy, Aurea, to materialize. "This is Aurea. After defeating her, she turned into this. I have never experienced this happening before. I was hoping to see you again, as you might have an explanation." After this, Auza would be ready to go. Already her mind was clearing.

Tales of Alidaire: The Chase - Page 20 Empty Re: Tales of Alidaire: The Chase

Post by Masquerade Thu May 03, 2012 9:16 am

"It has occurred to me that she may be the one ultimately behind the increase of demonic activity on this continent," Wallace explained, a pained expression on his face. "I had hoped it was not so. The Desert Rose used to be such a respectable figure. She was great, and she protected the people of this land on her own. She was loved. She was powerful. She had a great life." Wiping the frown that was seemingly stuck on his face, he tried for something a bit more indifferent and succeeded. Besides, the Desert Rose was performing acts that were unjust. Demons needed to be controlled, not let loose to do whatever they pleased. It made Wallace's job much harder, along with Auza's since she hunted demons that were troubling civilization.

"I know she has been traumatized by the event of the colonization, but whatever she is up to cannot be good for anyone," he continued. "It will definitely be something I shall further investigate." The demonologist took a moment to catch his breath as Auza decided to show him the trinket and explain its orgins. He had to resist the urge to smirk at this. "It seems like an ironic punishment to me," he offered the opinion expertly. "If the demon has a superior of some sort, that superior demon will often unleash a horrid punishment if the lesser demon fails at his or her task. This one is especially ironic. The one meant to gain gold and riches for thieves now gives gold and riches to you. Yes, I can feel the demonic magic emanating from this object. I am aware of what it does." Keeping his hands on his legs, he needed not to touch it or anything. He was adept at sensing demons and their brand of magic.

"You were hoping to banish her? I think this is enough torture for the likes of a demon as proud as the Star of Hell," he said, shaking his head lightheartedly. "At least she'll no longer be able to cause trouble. However, she is not the last of our problems. If you were planning on heading to Naik Dataran, I'm afraid you might be running straight into the grasp of another demon."

Tales of Alidaire: The Chase - Page 20 Empty Re: Tales of Alidaire: The Chase

Post by Zerifachias Thu May 03, 2012 9:29 am

That was an interesting bit of information. Auza did not know the demon hierarchy worked in such a way, though she had her suspicions. She sent the golden trophy back to Eternia, expecting it to become useful as she continued traveling. Auza wasn't surprised to hear Wallace speak of another demon. After the fight with Aurea, Auza knew that there would have to be more demons similar to her that they would have to go through.

But the way Wallace worded it made her worry just a little bit. He seemed to be implying that they would have walked into a trap, which probably wasn't too far from the truth. Auza could sense the presence of demons, but not like Wallace could. He was far more experienced than she, that much was obvious.

"Does this demon have a name?" Auza inquired, conscious that her curiosity was showing through her voice. She didn't want to sound over-eager, she wasn't. But the more she knew about demons the better. "Is it more powerful than Aurea?" Auza automatically assumed that it was after hearing how Wallace phrased it.

Tales of Alidaire: The Chase - Page 20 Empty Re: Tales of Alidaire: The Chase

Post by Masquerade Thu May 03, 2012 9:47 am

"I detest to have to say it, but it is a demon much more powerful than Aurea. This one goes by the name of Veer, a general of many legions of lesser demons in Hell. He is greatly known for his love of warfare, and he operates much the same way as Aurea does...or at least did before she was taken care of. Veer spreads the seeds of dissent upon different groups of people which in turn stirs up conflict. This conflict leads to many disputes which quickly grow violent. It is then that he feeds on the pain that the people inflict on one another." Here, Wallace paused to let the information sink in. Out of all the demons to actually be present and wreaking havoc in the world of man, Veer was one he hoped he would not encounter. It wasn't surprising that he had met the demon before. The conversation they had wasn't pleasant, for the demon grew jealous of Wallace earning the respect of the lesser demons in his legions. It didn't come down to violence, but they went their separate ways, bitter with one another, though Veer many times more than Wallace.

"As you know, there are three settlements in the Naik Dataran--one representing each of the colonizing nations. Things have already been tense amongst them, and I am afraid that Veer is taking advantage of that fact to make things worse. If he is allowed to play his little game to the end, there will not be a single soul left in any of the settlements. All of their blood will feed the earth, and their pain will fill Veer several times over," he explained, though he refrained from sounding too urgent. After all, he didn't even know what to do about it yet. A sudden gleam of realization brightened his face.

"I understand why it is that the Desert Rose attempted to take you out now. She was afraid that you would interfere with this more large-scale plot just as you had with Aurea. This particular part of her plan must be rather important for her to go to such lengths...and now I am certain that she is calling these powerful demons here," Wallace concluded, though very displeased as to what was happening.
