Re: Eternal Dream: Online
The fur-clad, living sphere peered intently into Masquerade's eyes, shortly before its golden pupils faded into the fur, and reemerged once more, "The Backwards Wood is a soundless land." The puff remarked, rolling off of the tip of Masquerade's shoe-tips and waddling its way to the hole it had so coolly entered before, "I could hear one of the Hanging's screams from our home tree. Just over there." The creature squeaked, shuffling one-eighty degrees and peering into Masquerade's eyes once more, "You must be visitors. Your skin is soft and your eyes are innocent, unlike any natives of the Wood.
"We've seen many of the soft-skinned as of late. Many of them. They tend to enter in little bushels, at a rate of maybe three to four bushels per week. We don't know where your kind comes from. You don't fall from the skies - nothing falls from the skies in the Wood. The sky is dead. For a similar reason, there's no way you could've sprouted from the ground... or from the trees... Those are dead too." The golden crisps faded to black, and reemerged in another stew of shining, peering irises, "So then... where do you come from? Which hellish ferryman did you pay to earn such an unfortunate trip?"
The puff's voice faded as it asked its ultimate question, and its golden beads faded from sight for a final time, "Pardon my rambling... Pardon... I never introduced myself to you." It squeaked, "I am a newborn of the Glow. We live amongst the trees as observers to the madness that hunts in the darkness below."

Re: Eternal Dream: Online
SIlver seemed weak. Really weak. I thought he would recover fairly quickly but I was obviously wrong. I eyed Masq a bit then returned to Silver.
-No way in hell. For as long as you are that bad, I'm staying beside you. I told you, no one goes down at my watch.
I sat beside my companion and tried to feel his pulse. Was that even going to work? No idea. I was a bit lost, but had done everything I could do without fear of making stuff worse. Masq could take care of whatever showed up. I wasn't moving an inch until Silv was in a stable shape.

Re: Eternal Dream: Online
This was it. This was the sort of thing I had been searching for...or at least hoping to find really. This thing might not have been ordinary by any means, but it was the friendliest thing they had yet to encounter is this crazy game world. It spoke to me in such an odd fashion, pointing out the obvious by saying my skin was soft...though I don't know all about that innocent eyes nonsense. If anything, at least in real life, my eyes had seen many things--they were far from innocent. But, this was probably just some kind of scripted dealio, so every noob was going to be a soft-skinned, gleamy-eyed loser. Just great. Regardless, I was a noob in this instance. Can't say anything against that. "Okay, well. I admit you're really good with the theatrics. We got in here by starting a virtual reality MMO." I didn't know if explaining it would make any difference; if it was scripted, then I'd be getting an inevitable response. Then again, with how real things were here...
"A newborn of the Glow, huh?" I mused aloud, almost sighing. "I'm Masquerade. Nice to meet you. I gotta say it must suck being an observer of such a fucked up place," I remarked, taking a quick look around the chamber for emphasis. This place was a complete disaster zone, and for a game world, it seemed more apocalyptic than usual, judging from the critter's description, that is. A dead sky. Dead trees. Dead soil. And now that I thought about it, just about dead everything. Damn that is some sad shit, I thought, visibly frowning. My thoughs briefly lighted upon our current situation. We were tired. We needed rest.
"Hey, do you have somewhere safe where we could talk and rest? My friend over there was really wounded in the battle with that nutjob," I said, pointing to Silver who seemed immensely tired, but at least Allindur's first aid seemed to be providing him with the ability to keep living. The pain might still have been around, but that was better than death right? "It's....it's pretty urgent," I added, though I was sure this creature had seen his fair share of gore and knew how eager we were to rest.

Re: Eternal Dream: Online
The critter blinked, and rolled over to Masquerade - away from the window, "Masquerade, there is no virtual reality." There it was, the sentence the trio had been so desperate to avoid, so desperate to block out and deny, "There is the Backwards Wood, and there is what lies on the second plane, and the third... and the next one beyond the stars... They're all... dead. Horrible and emotionless." The creature muttered, though caught itself - certainly it could sense the trio's chagrin - their hatred and their exhaustion. They needed a break from the sick, from the terrible, from everything that had barraged them with such gruesome malice since their arrival.
Blinking gold, amidst black fluff, "I apologize... I meant but to speak of the truth, not to wear your spirit." Wishing to change to a brighter topic, the young spore of blackness shifted its gaze, "... The Glow are unique. We feed off of life energy, and from that energy our true potential may reach fruition." The creature inhaled, temporarily becoming perhaps an inch wider in width, before deflating to its original size, "However, we are observers, and we cannot gather life energy on our own. Quite a contradiction, isn't it? For a creature to have been created to gather life in a place that is only for the dead?
The creature rolled beyond Masquerade's position, and crawled into Allindur's sight, who had been hunched over Silver's bleeding and injured body, "In order to gather the life energy I require in order to channel my strength, I must acquire the energy through the soft-skinned ones." The creature waddled to Silver, flashed him a quick, squeaky hello, and dipped itself in the Empath's crimson pool of blood.
"After all, your people garner a special, warm energy. It is the only true life energy the Glow can find in the Backwards Wood." Silver's blood stuck to the Glow as if it were a sort of sticky textile, which plastered itself against the creatures fuzzy exterior and gradually seemed to drip inward into the creature's body (almost spongelike, perhaps). The creature's golden eyes closed, and it muttered, "When the Glow acquire a certain degree of life energy, they may utilize it as a conduit for magical purposes. After the life energy has been depleted from the Glow's body, remnants of life line the Glow's innards. As a result, they remain slightly larger than they were before the life energy transference. Through the measurement of size, a soft-skinned may determine the age of any Glow they encounter, as well as how much life energy it has absorbed."
Immediately after its explanation came to a conclusive halt, the Glow's sides began to bubble - to bulge and wriggle about, until spindly appendages burst from the puff's body, and sprouted into a pair of lacy wings which fluttered in a gust of air fueled by the life-energy conduit Silver's blood supplied. The creature's torso expanded, and before long (luckily, it managed to squeeze through the hole to the Backwards Wood before it grew too large) it could easily manage to carry the trio to the Glow's home tree.
"Come, soft-skinned visitors." The Glow beckoned from a branch outside the small hole, urging the trio to come aboard, "We can fix your friend. We can provide you all with a resting location far safer than any you could find alone."

Re: Eternal Dream: Online
Only one thought rushed across my mind. It supressed everything else. It supressed the darkness, the battle, the fear, everything. This thougth became my entire being, and forced itself out of me through the only opening possible: my mouth.
-For Thor's hammer you are the cutest thing I've seen in ages!
The cute little thing was talking, explaining, really, and I just stood there, absorbing it, like it absorbed Silver's blood, what apparently should bug me, but didn't, and staring at it's cuteness dazzled. When the thingy went out and offered to give us a ride, I changed my position to a kneel and looked at Silv's face.
-I'll have to carry you now, ok? Bear with me, it might hurt a little.
Ok, that was a white lie. It would probably hurt a whole lot, but why scare the kid? I wrapped my left arm under his legs and my right across his back, just under the arms, giving hima second to put his arms around my shoulders. I gave him no time to deny, however, and lifed him off the ground even if he refused to hold onto me. It was surprinsingly easy. I guess the game made me physically stronger since I was a somewhat melee class. I eyed Masq.
-You can go down first, I need to be sure the footing is stable before jmping in.

Re: Eternal Dream: Online
No virtual reality.
I blinked a few times absently as those words fluttered through my mind and began to settle down as an inevitable truth. This wasn't the video game we thought it was; this was something supernatural...or maybe fantastical would be a better choice of word? This was like something out of a dream--something me and my Eternal Dream friends would actually role play about. And here I was, legs shaking slightly as this creature who sadly bequeathed this information to us soaked up Silver's blood and metamorphosed into something slightly more impressive. These creatures...the Glow. They were on our side--denizens of a dead world who wanted to see it get back to the way it was. How could the Glow get back to their normal lives if there wasn't life in anything anymore? I took a few apprehensive steps after the Glow, still completely baffled. The only thing that registered now in my mind was that this thing was going to fly us to the home of the Glow where we could rest and perhaps learn more about what happened to this...this Backwards Wood.
Whether this was a game or not, there was no leaving right now. There was just no way home unless the Glow knew something. But I had a feeling it wouldn't be that simple. We were meant for this maybe? What with fate and all that nonsense. Buried in thoughts, I climbed atop the creature carefully, waiting for it to take off. It occurred to me that I had never flown before, and suddenly I felt my heart racing. There were a lot of things I had never done before that I'd probably find myself doing in this dead world--perhaps even saving it, because it looked like it could seriously use some heroes. The Glow probably coped as best they could, but without life sources and with all the vile creatures around, there couldn't be much they could do. But myself and the others--we had obvious power. Maybe we could put it to some good use?
"Be careful," I told Allindur without looking at him since I was heading down first. I was more worried about him and Silver than I was about myself. I may have been tired, but I was still full of fight. Sighing and bracing myself for whatever was to come, I prayed that there would be a resolution to this journey that didn't wind up in my death, or the death of my friends seeing as how pain here was very real, and as such, we could all die here, never to be heard from again.
I have a lot to live for...so I won't die here.

Re: Eternal Dream: Online
"Gah!" I couldn't help but cry out as Allindur lifted me–it certainly hurt a lot more than pressing down on my wound. But I could manage. I shut my eyes tight together and tried some deep breathing. It didn't help. I may have been lacking in focus, but that hadn't prevented the strange creature's information from flying over my head. When I attempted to clear my mind all I heard was the same message: There is no virtual reality. "How long will it take to get there?" I grunted, failing at sounding like I wasn't in pain.

Re: Eternal Dream: Online
I'm okay, I'm okay, I'm okay.
I have to be okay.
Taking a deep, deep breath, I rubbed at the itching pain in my arms, lightly dragging my bitten nails against the cuts and scabs. This was a shitty virtual reality game if it couldn't even get rid of the damage on my body. I tried not to think about whether or not this really was just a game. Been there, done that, don't think to hash it all over again. Besides, there were still bigger problems to deal with.
Looking at the woman, I grimaced at the sight of her weaponry. In all honesty, I didn't even want to get close to that thing. But leaving my friends behind because I was a coward? No. Just, no. That was a low that I refused to stoop to. Gripping my daggers hard enough to whiten my knuckles, I stalked back over to where the battle was being raged.
[Xenosaga] moves to [C-4].
As I neared them, my pace sped up. Soon, I was running straight ahead. Rushing past Cerani, I launched myself forward to strike, slashing my weapons at the witch. I then skidded backwards, still unused to the new strength in my limbs and the force of my attacks. I braced myself for the pain that was sure to come.
[Xenosaga] attacks [Charlotte]. 9 ATK DMG. 2 hits.
I have to be okay.

9 ATK DMG. 2 hits.

Re: Eternal Dream: Online
I'm not taking damage anymore...I'm perfectly okay with this. Kuori seems to be just as tanky as I do, maybe a little less tanky. He should be fine for a little while, then the beast will start focusing me or that other dude, whatever his name is.
The whole scent-thing didn't seem to work at all. I should have expected as much. Unless I expend mana, not much is going to happen here. And spending mana would be pretty pointless with the skills I currently know. I remember leveling up earlier, but I want to save up some points for special abilities.
I should probably be attacking this thing. Kuori would probably appreciate that. I write some random words in the air, just winging the whole attack scheme thing. I didn't expect this, but the words I wrote in the air just hurtled towards the beast and exploded on contact. I suppose that's one way to attack something.
Zeri attacks Stripe!
Zeri's S-Ability: I Have An Idea activates! 11 Int DMG!
Curious what would happen next, I poke the ground with my pen, leaving small holes in the dirt with bits of ink-magic escaping from my seemingly inexhaustible supply. At the same time, spikes of dirt and ink jump out of the ground beneath the beast, piercing its feet and making them bleed. Those wounds look painful. I almost feel sorry for the thing. But I don't. Not until it steps on a lego piece.

The swirling maelstrom of venomously dark and terrifying thorns that crawled from the maiden's feet had begun to entangle my own person, slithering with an aura of death that only reassured me of my impending demise. I couldn't help but lean my head against the dirt as my final strands of magical stone shattered piece by piece against the witch's devastating onslaught of shadowy energy, desecrating my barrier as shards of stone cascaded into the swirling cesspool of overflowing darkness.
"You need to kill her NOW!" My voice cracked and shrieked as the last barrier shard plopped lifelessly into the abyss of thorns, "Come on, Cerani! I know you can! You have to! You just have to!" The madness emitting from the scarecrow witch's persona had begun to seep into my own mind - that much I could tell. I could feel the chilling embrace of death skittering behind my eyes and into my throat. I could only scream as our only chances at victory began to crawl away.

Re: Eternal Dream: Online
I growled as I heard Durn yelling at me, and the witch's thorns hit my body again. "Fuck, what does it look like I'm doing?!" Yeah, that whole control thing? Not my deal. I was afraid and scared and terrified, but most of all I was angry. This witch was hurting me and my friends and I've just about had enough. "No. You know what? I've had enough. This is bullshit!" With those words I charged the witch and snarled, snapping my blade to and fro in a frenzy of slashes. Straw flew in the air as I dismantled her piece by piece, cloth frayed at my sword's touch.
By the end of it, I just stood there. Was that really it? Was that all I had to do? I felt pretty drained though, must be an adrenaline thing. Either that I got really mad. "Okay, so I might be a little cranky."
Cerani unleashes D-Ability: Massive Attack on Charlotte! 20 Piercing Atk damage, good chance of Weak! (not like it matters . .)

Kuori moves to cell G-5
Ow, okay that thing really hurts. I probably should have expected that from a big lumbering monster, actually maybe "lumbering" isn't quite the right word as the kid seemed to be commanding the creature to move rather swiftly. Seeing Zeri doing all he can to attack the creature I sigh and run to the side, I suppose I could serve as a distraction. Though these guys better be quick about taking down the monster, because I'm not going to last that much longer. Sensing my stress Beatrice seemed to conjure a cup of tea in my hands, which I took a quick sip out of. It was rather refreshing.

Re: Eternal Dream: Online
Music: Glow
The Glow's home tree had been no more lively than any other violet-stained tree in the Backwards Wood. It appeared equally as dead, yet no more corrupt than any other bark in the vicinity; however, it seemed, if only slightly, larger than the rest. As such, it seemed suitable to house an entire species of meek little creatures. Through a relatively large breach in the northernmost side of the tree's edge, the large, falcon-like Glow upon which the first trio rode, dove directly into the large foliage's innermost passageway.
As the Glow falcon glided deeper and deeper into the home tree, the small amounts of twilight that seeped through the entryway dissipated into darkness, illuminated only by the beady-neon-like eyes of the Glow that housed the passageway's walls, side by side. The steady, almost burnt lighting gave the tree a relaxing ambiance that no other area in the Backwards Wood could mimic. The small entry tunnel split and opened into a wide, topiary foyer that seemed far larger than the actual tree.
The falcon descending upon a wooden platform at the highest layer of the inner tree, the trio acquired a wonderful view of the rest of the Glow living quarters. The hollowed tree held several different floors, each viewable from another, as several different hastily crafted bridges of planks and nails arched from one end of the tree to the next that allowed all Glow safe passage from one platform to the next, each of which held a single, smaller hut that either functioned as a sort of storage, shop, or housing.
The falcon Glow coaxed the party off of its back with a swift twitch of its neck as its black-feathered wings slithered back into its body and its torso minimized rapidly. It seemed only marginally larger than it had been upon its first appearance, perhaps the size of a human's foot and lower leg combined, but no larger. Regardless, what the Glow had spoken held true: they grew larger with each consumption of human life energy.
"Please acquaint yourself with our home tree. I will have nearby Glow tend to your friend's wounds. Do not worry for his safety; as in our hands, it is most certainly assured." The little puff's eyes illuminated with a brilliant, golden aura as it spoke and rolled from one side of the landing platform to the other, "Each floor of the tree holds a different purpose, and can be accessed through our wide array of bridges available for safe passage. Although the soft-skinned have never set foot on said bridges, I do believe they should hold your weight with little trouble."
A small horde of Glow swarmed Silver, carrying him as a pile of ants would carry small fruit from a picnic blanket as they retreated into a nearby hole in the tree's wall. It must've been their infirmary, which a small, wooden sign indicated directly above the doorway.
"You will find our chieftain Astapor on the lowermost level of our tree. He does not take kindly to the soft-skinned. As such, if you wish to converse with him, I suggest only one of you to speak with him. It would be safest that way." The Glow continued as it rolled into the background, back into the infirmary with the rest of the horde, "Fear not for the other soft-skinned who have entered our realm. Word is, another group of three, quite similar to you all, has been located at the Beaty's Edge cliffside. Do not fret. Another scout has been sent to their general location and should arrive shortly."
"For now, please enjoy your stay." Almost as soon as it concluded its speech, a great, wooden door smashed between the infirmary and the landing station, leaving Allindur and Masquerade to explore the tree while the horde tended to Silver.

"It's my turn to become the hunter." Dressed in an exotic, technicolor robe of finely woven silk, the young woman treaded backward till her back lay parallel to a crumbling wall of marble. There she stood, with a keen glow in her eye as she shuffled against the wall, a paled beast, furless and vicious with reddened and discolored eyes, leapt from the wood, yet fell mid-strike, paralyze and unable to snap its bloodthirsty maw at the untouchable woman.
"Thinly woven string becomes difficult to see when matched to an unprepared eye." The woman walked calmly and coolly toward the fleshy wolf-like creature, kneeling toward it with an unparalleled feeling of safety and assured victory, "The string becomes even harder to see when the target is so fixated on murder, wouldn't you agree? Before long, they'll end up entrapped within a web woven amongst trees..."
Her hand caressed the creature's clamped maw with a soft flourish; then she stood. "I do not kill living things as a matter of code..." She smiled a cherry red smile that spoke victorious words, "Fortunately for my conscious, I don't think you were ever a living creature to begin with."
With a clean swipe of silver, the creature howled its final howl. Sakura turned and met the party, ready to aid in combat.

Re: Eternal Dream: Online
I coughed up blood as the monster bulldozed me aside and throwing me into a staggering state. "Didn't... need all those... internal organs anyway," I muttered weakly as I tried to regain my stance. It was no use, at this point I would only get in the way. The purple beast had already took its attention off of me and started beating on the poor kid with the bird, and as much as I'd like the play the whipping boy for the team, (which sounds so wrong when you think about it, but shut up, I'm dying) I wouldn't be able to catch up to the creature and do anything relatively significant. Damn you, purple Yoshi, and damn you, Baby Mario. I curse your names with every remaining fiber in my being. Unlike myself, the spirit I conjured seemed to be unaffected by the brute's onslaught, it's too bad it isn't wasting any attacks on the deer-skull ghost. I could only sit back and watch as the spirit did the fighting for me. It didn't really say anything as it attacked, yet instead made violent, snarling noises.

The tea was very refreshing and I felt like all my troubles had suddenly melted away. That feeling didn't last long as I was yet again pummeled by the monster here. Since I couldn't poke the damn thing's eyes out due to it lacking said eyes the only thing I could do was keep my stamina up with this tea and let the others do their jobs. Hopefully the young woman who had just showed up would help, if not well looks like it'd be a pretty quick game over, at least for me anyway.

Re: Eternal Dream: Online
Why hello there, strange girl out of fucking nowhere. An eyebrow raised, a poised pen, and tipped glasses from the last rumble seemed a poor look for me, but I didn't care. There was sauerkraut in the midst of bratwurst on the battlefield now. It was a refreshing sight to see a lady in the arena, but...why was she here? This was supposed to be our kill. Ain't no way I'll let some crazy woman steal this one from me.
With a deft flick of my wrist, ink splattered on the ground in small drops in a small area. Almost instantaneously, black spears fell from the sky to pierce the great beast. At the same time, a line of ink from my pen sent shockwaves through the air around the beast, bouncing off invisible walls around the beast, making even it's internal organs suffer tremendous damage.

Re: Eternal Dream: Online
Finally able to fight through the pain, I managed to maintain a stable footing. "You know, we wouldn't have to give you the business if you and your science experiment gone wrong didn't try to eat us!" I yelled at the kid in the terrible Halloween costume. "You say you've done nothing wrong? Bullshit. You think I care about you and your pet, you little flying bitch-monkey? News flash: I don't, you malignant asshole. As soon as that purple shit stain is taken care of, I'm going to shred you into a bunch of little bacon bits, and serve you on a salad with a side of croutons, just you fucking wait."
I turned over to my own creature. "Deer-thing! Show him what for it mean to be... real super sand legend!" The ghost only replied with vicious, demonic growls as it swung its jagged claws at the face of the purple behemoth. I then slowly walked over to my ally in glasses and addressed him. "So uhh... hey. I don't think I've had the chance for a proper introduction since this whole mess started, sorry about that. The name's Vergil, nice to meet ya. I hope you don't mind if I chill over here for a bit while my ugly skeleton monster fights that other, uglier monster."

Re: Eternal Dream: Online
So the girl was actually helping us kill this thing. Joyous occasion, and I get a front row seat for the show too. Can't say I didn't enjoy that, but I really should be focusing here. My quickness of writing was gone, but I still felt the strength of the previous attack in effect. The other guy came over and was talking about something, introducing himself as Vergil. I remember him. He never really says much, but I can appreciate his humor.
"Do whatever you need, Vergil. I'm Zeri, by the way," I reply casually, as if we were not fighting some ugly beast-monster-thing with a strange child riding on it's back like Nunu and Willump from League of Legends. I'm just glad he hasn't Empire'd yet.
Speaking of which, I draw a small little ball in the air, which turns a crisp white and fires itself at the giant beast, exploding on contact with the beast, ice shards going everywhere and leaving a cold, crisp air behind.

Okay, that hurt. But I hadn't been knocked down yet, which was quite a surprise. Apparently drinking tea made you stronger, good to know. That might come in handy in the future too, considering how frail I actually was. Though the kid and the monster didn't seem to want to give me some time to catch my breath meant that I would fall fairly soon, especially since I was all out of tea. I rummaged through my bag, hoping to find something that I could use. Pulling out a vial of red liquid (which I immediately assumed was a potion of sorts) I took only a moment to examine it before popping the lid and drinking it once I was sure it wouldn't kill me.
Okay so it wasn't quite tea but it was a reasonable alternative though I couldn't give it much praise for how it tasted. Actually, the thing tasted horrible. For a moment I felt sorry for making my Champions chug all those health pots. However the drink did alleviate most of the pain in the rest of my body. I backed off after placing the empty vial back into my bag.

Re: Eternal Dream: Online
"Man, does that purple oaf ever run out of steam?" I sneered, watching the beast continue to chase my other ally. It kept moving away from my summoned creature who apparently has trouble catching up to it. I myself don't want to be too far away when the kid's mount finally croaks so that I can wring the little bastard's chicken neck myself. "Looks like my breaktime's over," I remarked, realizing that I would actually have to put in my share of the effort if I wanted to get this over with sooner. I picked up my shamsir and ran towards combat, still fighting back the pain of my injuries.
