Re: Eternal Dream: Online
Looks like the creatures were being easily taken care of now. I observed as the guy with the pen conjure up attacks with simple writing gestures and skewering one of the ghosts and the mantis. That just left one remaining spirit that I was sure the rest of them could just as easily dispatch of it as well, and it's not like I'd be able to do anything to it anyway. I took a moment to catch my breath as the incorporeal being flew off towards the final enemy and struck it with its transmundane blade. This was turning out to be a more engaging game than I had expected, and I was more than relieved that this battle was nearly over.

Re: Eternal Dream: Online
-I'm opening the fight! Silver, help me dispose of the old ones quickly!
I was just glad the bats weren't around this time. All would be easier without those nasty toxic bites. I gazed at a nearby Hanging Man(I had already informally named the thing), sunk into my own shadow, reapearing nearby it, it an upwards thrust.
-SHADOW JUMP!
It had been much faster and easier to use the attack this time, and I was not even dizzy or nauseated. It was all a matter of habbit, apparenty. I was still puzzled by what else I could possibly do.
I drew the blade from the morbid body and assumed a guard stance. This was just awesome...

Re: Eternal Dream: Online
Current Basic Attack Damage Output: 200%
"Lets see..." I started, counting numbers in my head. "If there's only one thing left here, then I guess that means we'll get some sort of experience screen when it dies?" I'm wondering about what happens after a battle ends. It's a little strange not to get immediate experience from anything that I killed, but I guess this is a different sort of game. Maybe the last hit on a monster doesn't get you any special bonuses. Well.
That's no fun at all.
I absentmindedly drew a large, uneven circle in the air, which manifested itself into the form of a large rock over the spirit's head. With a dull thud, the rock crushed the spirit and all it held dear. I couldn't help but chuckle at it. "I don't know about you two, but I've had a smashing time here today."
Zeri attacks Lost Spirit [2]!

Re: Eternal Dream: Online
Cerani moves to F-6.
I looked away from the poor guy to the flowers, finally noticing that they looked already damaged. This guy must've put up a fight before they trapped him. "Good for you, dude." I muttered. Better to go down fighting at least, I thought, a little impressed he'd decided to stay and fight outnumbered five to one. The absolute least we could do was save the guy. At Xeno's comment, I glanced back at Durn to see the guy on the verge of a panic. I knew that look. "No time like the present huh?"
There was never actually a good time to panic, but I thought it better to have it out now than halfway through. I moved up closer to the now dead plant, casting it a slightly grossed out frown but held my sword defensively, for what good it would do me against these things. The new flowers (as much as you could call them that) looked pretty damn gross anyway. I hoped they weren't like Eyebites. But, if I knew anything about games, then there were at least a few things I could expect about these. Most mobs with a visual focus on large eyes usually meant they had some kind of eye-beam attack, and they also usually had their weak spot in the same place. I had no idea if that was going to be the case here but there certainly couldn't be any harm in trying.
I pointed my dull sword at the closest one, nonverbally communicating my threat to it. "Watch for those guys. I think they might be magic users. Beam attacks and stuff."

Re: Eternal Dream: Online
Our final trio of heroes, who had exorcized an army of Lost Souls and a young Dream Mantis, had emerged victorious and unshaken. With very few moments of reprieve, the three continued onward, treading through the pond in search for a way out of the crater.
The three spotted a large, spiral tower which had collapsed against the crater's edge. Could they use it as a ramp upward? They quickly spotted an entrance and darted into the tower, in hopes of being able to trek through the ruinous tower without attracting another horde of undead beings. However, their hopes were not answered, as another trio of ghastly women materialized in front of them, accompanied by a pair of armored men.
However, there was something amiss. The duo of soldiers that had joined the souls in battle were not ghosts: they were alive, but something about them seemed so very distant. The words they spoke were not words, and their eyes, which shone through the slits of their helmets, gazed into an abyss not even the party could see. Could they have been players, maddened and bent by the endless hell they had unknowingly entered?

Re: Eternal Dream: Online
Zeri starts at I-2
"More?" I sigh, rolling my eyes. This was just getting out of hand, really. First we had to fight spirits and a mantis, and now we get to fight even more spirits and two armored things. I honestly couldn't care less about the significance behind their appearance. I like lore, but only for interesting games. Sure, this game was interesting as a concept, but so far it felt too easy. I can't be over-leveled, not yet at least. Being in a starting area had the advantage of being easy, even for the lower levels.
"Same thing as last time, gents," I say to my two companions, one of whom I knew was Kuori. The way he walked and talked confirmed my suspicions. The other one I didn't know, nor care to know. He didn't seem like much of a talker anyway, and I'm certainly not going to grant him my time if he doesn't grant me his.
When can we get this whole crappy thing over with, anyway?

Re: Eternal Dream: Online
Vergil starts at H-1
"Until you call upon me again..." The ethereal familiar whispered as it faded away. I wasn't going to question what whole deal with that thing was, and instead I was just going to assume it was part of a repertoire of attacks I had in this game for now.
I decided to tag along with the other two through the tower, as it seemed to be the obvious way to advance. Neither of them seemed to try and press conversation out of me, which I was more than fine with. I was uncomfortable trying to force small talk with people I didn't know, and I didn't like saying more than I had to for my own reasons. I guess the only thing I speak to the most are my own thoughts. In my state of abstraction I almost didn't notice the approaching creatures that stood in our way.
From what I've assessed in the last battle, the one with the pen struck the heaviest out of all of us, and I wouldn't really object to him asserting himself as the leader in our impromptu clique. I glanced at my own shamsir's dull edge and chuckled a bit as I murmured to myself. "Heh... mightier than the sword." Both of my allies were capable of ranged attacks and I supposed I could stand in the way of the enemies as the others attack from a safe distance, but the problem with doing so is the fact that I'm not particularly tanky, not to mention I'd probably develop a pawn complex sooner or later. Then there are the enemies themselves. There are three more ghosts that I can't even touch, so me going after those are out of the question, and then there are the frighteningly powerful knight-like beings standing in the front.
They didn't seem to be monsters created by the game, but I could be wrong. They appeared to be talking, but not in any language I could recognize... perhaps... could they be players stuck in this game? It wasn't an absolutely crazy idea, and if that was the case then there's a chance they could be manipulated. One thing I learned from my brother is that if I can turn an opposition's teamwork into a competition, then their teamwork practically becomes non-existent. I just have to pick at their egos enough for something so far-fetched to work, and not only that, it means I'd have to talk to them.
...I just can't catch a break.

Re: Eternal Dream: Online
The time leading up to the second encounter was spent mostly in silence. No one, not even Beatrice whom I thought would have explained to me the situation I was in, spoke more than a few words. Since no one seemed to want to partake in any form of conversation, I decided to keep my mouth shut as well. Besides if Beatrice hasn't spoken about this yet maybe now wasn't the best time to ask. Though I did have myself try to remember to ask the raven companion of mine about this once we got out of this crater.
When more enemies showed up within the tower my mind quickly went to work. The spirits in the back I was getting familiar with, they didn't seem all that resilient to our attacks nor did they really show the capability to take hits. As opposed to them the soldiers that stood in our way seemed much tougher. Their armor told me that weapons won't be making their way through anytime soon, which was fine as my weapon was a fan anyway and I was fairly sure Beatrice could probably find an opening in the armor. However another problem was the lack of space in this area to maneuver around. Considering how scrawny I was I doubted I could take more than two or three hits from those soldiers. Perhaps I could take cover behind some of those rocks around, but then the soldiers would probably find me fairly easily. What to do, what to do?
"This could be problematic." I thought out loud, and Beatrice nodded in response.

Masquerade moves to D5.
Apparently, I had been tasked with entertaining the new monsters while my companions dealt with the fodder which was fine with me. I could distract them just fine, but not knowing what they were capable of bothered me. What kind of pain would I be expected to endure this time? It was something I didn't particularly care to think about, so I paced out of the way and focused on the one that was now closest to me. A familiar light appeared around its brutalized head, flashed, and then somewhat lingered about. I started to think that this skill had some sort of side effect, but whatever it was happened to be unknown to me. There was still no user interface that I could scan to see what the hell I knew and what the hell my skills actually did. I would be forced to wing it until I found a way to log off which I highly doubted was possible. The others seemed to so not bothered by what was happening that it was kinda disturbing, and I doubted their intellect briefly before proceeding to just not give a fuck.
I suppose if they're having fun for now, I mused to myself, gripping the twin needles I wielded in combat even more tightly than I already was. At least they were understandable; they were channels for my magic. I could feel it and see it surging along the lengths. I wouldn't be surprised if I could blast these things with blistering light energy, but I figured spamming my presumably only skill would suffice.

Re: Eternal Dream: Online
Alright, it was time to put my fifty-fifty plan into action. If this worked, I could have the two soldiers attacking each other and it would make this battle run a lot smoother, and if it doesn't work then I just may be boned entirely. As for the ghosts, I could worry about them later, but right now it seems that I am literally stuck between a rock and a-
No. I refuse to indulge in that beaten-to-death expression, no matter how convenient it is. I must utilize the will of every fiber in my body to resist the urge to finish that thought. It is stupid and I feel stupid for even thinking of such a thing, there is no way, no how, that I am going to sully myself with a crime against intellect itself. Oh what the hell, just this once since it's absolutely killing me inside. "Oh dear! It appears that I am now stuck between a rock and a hard place!" I yell out, hearing the echoes in the air mocking my guilty sin.
Great, now I have brought great shame upon myself and my family, and now I must commit Sudoku. While everyone is busy face-palming I must fill out each row and column in this mathematical puzzle with a different number or I may risk never redeeming myself again... and if I make the mistake of placing an identical number in the same box, then may God help us all. With this entire ordeal I somehow had managed to distract myself from the objective at hand, and I had better stop wasting time. Something was bothering me though; in this entire time I had not realized there had been background music playing. I guess that's the purpose of background music: to simply blend in and set ambiance. Don't get me wrong, I've played and thoroughly enjoyed Path of Radiance where I recognized this track from, but it just wasn't doing it for me, at least not for this situation. I reached into my pocket checking to see if everything I had with me before I entered this game was there, and sure enough I found my old mp3 player.
Placing in the earbuds, I scrolled through my playlist for a more suitable track. After all, if I'm going on a suicide mission, I may as well do it in style.

"Hey you two," I addressed the two maddened soldiers. "I heard one of you said something bad about the other."

Re: Eternal Dream: Online
"Same thing as yesterday, eh?" I say with a sigh. It's not like we'll actually die here. We can always just respawn back at our old position, maybe lose a bit of experience, then come back here and try again. No matter how lifelike this game is, it is exactly that. A game. Nothing to get worried about. Of course, I was never a competitive person unless I was kill stealing someone. Now those times are truly great.
I can feel the smile itching to cross my face, but I force it down. I've got work to do anyway. Raising my trusty pen into the air, the ink spilled out to form words very quickly. The ink glowed a greenish color, "Hasten your battle prowess!" is what I wrote. Like last time, I could feel a sort of rush come over me, granting me what felt like agility. I could feel the ideas come into my head at a rapid pace as well.
This might actually be fun. I might have one of those things explode. Or at least put an explosion beneath it. Yes, that might be fun.

Right, since no one else made a move to attack the soldiers yet, I figured I shouldn't either. Beatrice seemed to agree with me on this, saying that I needed to make sure the male who stood in front of the two soldiers drew their attention. That way I could make my attacks without as much of a fear for retaliation. Though I did feel like I needed to do something so I wouldn't be completely useless. Perhaps I should learn to create a decoy of some sort, so I could take this time to set up and it would also serve to distract the enemies, two birds with one stone.

I looked up at Xeno; I couldn't quite remember whether or not she had looked me in the eyes, but she probably didn't. It was probably my tear, which dripped right into my mouth, in all of its saltiness and- God, my mouth was open. Why was it open? Yeah, I closed it hurriedly immediately after that; I didn't want Xeno and Cerani thinking I was some sort of creep.
My hands ruffled against the lavender leaves, brushing up some gravel along with the wind. Gravel - that was my power. I could control the earth. I needed to embrace that control and buck-up, for fuck's sake. I needed to rub the blood and dirt off of my knees and stand up, and I needed to save that man.
So I tried to, as silently and as focused, yet as frantically as I could; I conjured an orb of earth, not one of those with those jagged, pointy edges, but rather one of those shiny, purple shields I made earlier. I think it was amethyst, or protect-a-guy, or whatever. Some gem. But whatever it was, it went right over that man's body.
I cringed.

Corpse Flower (3) KO!!
Neutral Phase 1!
There I lay - nearly unconscious. Before I fell, I shivered as a chill ran up my thigh through my ankle, as a sloppy, gelatinous tentacle ran up and tripped me. My face met the dirt, and I screamed; I screamed at something, maybe they were... plant-people? Everything there had tentacles, or stems, or flower buds, or whatever- they were plants. Probably.
But then they screamed back at me (with human words), and I closed my eyes, my forehead meeting the dirt with a thud.

Re: Eternal Dream: Online
For about three seconds, I panicked. The man trapped in vines and Xeno were both attacked, and I wasn't clear on who I should be retaliating against. Should I help my friend first or the innocent man I didn't know? But then I forced myself to clear, think logically for a moment. The botanical eyes were magic casters, specialized like I'd thought. Take them down first before they do any greater damage. I strode around the other guy, acting more confident than I felt and blocking him from the thing's line of sight, then proceeded to whack the shit out of it like I had in the first fight.

My hands clenched into tight fists as the rage took full effect, veins becoming pronounced instantly. I took the hanging man's attack with little care, pulling myself to my feet and striding over to the one Allindur had attacked. There still wasn't a connect between what I was doing and how I was doing it, but the focus on the corpse established itself immediately. The creature shook violently for a few moments before falling from the air, defeated.
I smiled.

Re: Eternal Dream: Online
The Hanging Man came down on me, hugging me with crushing force. I could feel my bones cracking and twisting. Silver was quick to take down the beast, but as I tried getting up, I felt a deep sting on my leg and came down to the ground. Something either broke or dislodged there, I was sure. I would not be able to walk until the pain subdued, which meant I was not going to do anything for a while.
-Damn..I can't walk like this...
Allindur sits in silent pain. Ouch, my leg...

The small light that I created could not match the sheer powerful darkness that this deformed creature unleashed upon me. Whatever magical defenses I possessed meant nothing to this overwhelming beam of darkness. I could feel the shadowy energy scathing my very soul, and it caused me to cringe. Barely holding it together, I remained standing, though I'm pretty sure my legs were shaking pretty badly. At least I could walk. From what I could tell, Allindur's legs had been pretty injured; he wasn't going to be moving around anytime soon. As such, I considered myself lucky, but that wasn't even the point anymore. Pain still on my mind, I retaliated with my dear skill, light forming around the thing's crushed head and lingering. I still persisted in trying to find out what the hell I was doing.
You're killing. Leave it at that, I managed to convince myself in thought, and I did just as I had advised myself. Do damage. Defeat the enemy. Gain experience. How game-like despite this thing being far from a game. I wondered if my other friends had started playing the game, too. In my heart I hoped that they hadn't. We definitely bit off more than we could chew with this one.
Masquerade waits.

In my rage-fest, I hadn't noticed Allindur's hurt leg. For the few seconds I was without a direct enemy I immediately took note of it–mostly because I could feel the disappointment permeate the anger. When another one of the hanging freaks drifted over to him and merely lashed out at him, I thrust my left hand, which had a bracelet I didn't notice before around it, at it. "Back off." I growled, watching the thing spasm rather violently, but fail in actually falling to the ground defeated. It was hanging (HA!) on its last legs; another attack would do it in.
Silver attacks Hanging Man (2)! 3 Hits! 6 Int Damage per Hit! 20% Chance of Berserk per Hit!
I was just about to lay into it again when something hit me from behind. I whirled around, barely able to catch the traces of green flame as they faded away. It took a second for the actual pain to register, but when it did I did my best to fight it off mentally. Positive thinking seemed to have no effect. I still felt it, the burning surge on my body and the stinging reaction of my skin. I cried out, unable to hold it in, only to let the anger remerge. Somewhere, deep down inside past the building ire, I was thanking it.
If I didn't have it, I would have given up.
