"Leave the poor guy alone, zzzz...," the beast snarled as it hovered forward and slashed at the hard shell of the snowclasp persisting to attack Daskar. Two more slashes fell upon the creature in hopes of getting its attention allowing Daskar to recover from his time as an ice statue. From the actions of the enemies, it seemed as if they were out of tricks; their mana reserves must have been depleted already. That was at least one relief.

As they began to swarm her, she thanked the synthesist for making such tough armor. Not that the attacks hurt, but she knew they would start to soon enough. Luckily, her senses gave her the ability to counter them quickly and pierce through the weakest points of their shells, dealing a lot more damage than usual. Tightening her grip on the weapon, she closed her eyes, sending yet another prayer to the gods. In seconds she was answered, her weapon becoming engulfed in a dangerous red aura.

Daskar had bought himself a bit of time which was a relief, but the persistent snowclasps were still tailing him, intent to bring him down. Ignoring the severely weakened snowclasp in front of him, Raiju turned to face one of the snowclasps that was harassing Daskar. The electricity surrounding the creature intensified, and small streaks of lightning could be seen flashing around his target. Suddenly, several bolts dropped down from above, shocking the snowclasp repeatedly. Raiju was worried about whether or not the thing would be debilitated more than the damage the spell dealt. "Daskar....zzz...you need to heal yourself..." Raiju spoke, the sense of urgency buzzing throughout his voice which was no longer as calm as it had been at the beginning of their little struggle with the snowclasps. Sure, there attacks were weak now, but if they ganged up on the injured Daskar, there was a chance he would wind up like Sayori, and the last thing they needed at the moment was another person lying face down in the snow out cold.

Lightning engulfed her weapon soon afterwards and a faint grin crossed the teen's face. "My thanks." she murmured with a nod, readying her weapon once again. She turned on the first enemy that struck her and then launched her another attack at it, the electricity empowering it.

A sigh of relief escaped the electrified beast's muzzle as he hovered across the snow towards one of the snowclasps harassing Daskar, now intent on shifting the fight into a more melee one, not to mention he was about of usable mana. Everyone knew that using mana beyond what you're capable of can lead to death; there must always be at least a little mana stored away within to keep the body's vital processes going, and Raiju wasn't about to risk that. Daskar had healed himself so all was about as well as it could be save that Sayori was out for the count, not that Raiju particularly cared at the moment. Claws charged with lightning, Raiju swiped at the snowclasp in front of him, again and again, keeping himself ready for retaliation in the case that he had missed, for the snowclasps had displayed surprising adaptability to their environment, using the snow to their advantage to dodge attacks and such. Zzz....so annoying... Raiju thought flatly, his eyes closing for a brief moment before focusing on Daskar. "They all seem to...zzz...be resorting...zzz...to basic attacks. I think they exhausted...zzz...their mana reservoirs," the beast related to his fellow Royal Guard member. "Best to pick them off one by one now...zzz..."

Nina once again reacted in response to the assault made by the shell creatures. She was, however, unable to counter the furthest one which had attacked with the same freezing poison they had become accustomed to. It was of little matter, for she was certain that the ones that she had hit would fall and leave them with only a few enemies left. With that in mind she rocketed over to the one that had used the last of it's mana and stabbed in its direction.

More electrified slashes rent the air as Raiju persisted against the crafty snowclasp in front of him, endeavoring to take the thing out with this chain of attacks, but with the snow acting as its cover, Raiju wasn't sure if he'd be able to land all his attacks. I know I've never been much of an optimist, but I gotta have a bit of faith, Raiju thought, holding his ground once more. It was turning out that this mission was much more of a pain in the ass than he cared for, but getting rid of these annoying, carnivorous pests would be good for everyone. Killing them was satisfying, just as killing any pest was. Good thing they're not the common household pest; then we'd have seriously problems, he thought jovially, holding back a laugh. True would it be that it would be horrible, but that certainly didn't keep the humor away.

Nina was unable to react to the shell pest's attack, for it scuttled away before she got the chance, her spear imbedding itself in the snow instead. The seraph knight was unfazed, however, and wrenched her weapon from the ground before chasing after it. Once more she launched it at the creature, unsure as to whether or not it actually hit, but knowing that if she had successfully struck the beast it would be dead. Then she could help the others.

So much for the pests. Raiju allowed himself a sigh of relief as he watched as he and his fellow Royal Guard members whittled away the snowclasp terror. For a while, he figured they'd be at this forever, but now that there were only two and the snowclasps were outnumbered, things were looking up. "It's time to try to...zzz...finish this." Raiju hovered through the air and came to a stop next to the snowclasp that had dodged several of Daskar's attacks. A flurry of swipes executed by electrified claws was sent its way, and Raiju sneered at the thought of it dodging all of the attacks. It wasn't very likely, so this one would be going down. Now if Daskar teams up with Nina on the other one, it shouldn't stand a chance, he thought, glancing at the other snowclasp nearby--the one that was intent on taking vengeance on the lightning beast.

The last of the snowclasps had been disposed of at long last. A blast of yellow light surged into existence around Raiju's form, and when it cleared, Grey was standing in place, panting a bit. A slight trace of a smirk crossed his face, for he was content with his strength and ability to control the monster souls effectively. They didn't call him the Harmonizer for no reason. In the midst of his reverie, he noticed a bird flying high above the white expanse of snow which was no immensely quiet save the breathing of the only living things in that area. It was a white dove carrying a scroll of parchment that it released above the group. The scroll fell down, being swayed side to side throughout its descent by the winds of the snowy plains until it finally came to a rest in Grey's hands. An eyebrow raised in curiosity, Grey undid the golden ribbon binding it and unrolled it so he could read what was upon it.

"Attention, my Royal Guard: please return to the Holy Capitol of Cidade as soon as possible. The one among you named Sayori is being reassigned, and as such, I have two new members that will be joining your ranks. I am also aware that you have more missions that need to be collected. I look forward to seeing you upon your arrival. Thank you," Grey read aloud in a rather indifferent voice loud enough for the others to hear. "Signed by His Royal Majesty, the Holy King Ramone Iveylia himself. Guess we should head back," he added, letting the others look at the parchment, gesturing towards the fanciful signature that the king was so kind to give. Not saying anything further, Grey straightened his coat and prepared for the long walk back to Cidade.

Luckily for the group, the piercing winds abstained for their entire journey back to the capitol sparing them further exposure to the cold. Grey remained rather aloof as he walked with the others up the main street towards the castle, looking around and seeing nothing but the destruction Tiamat had caused before, even though the goddess had fixed all the devastation she had wrought upon the city square. Before he knew it, they were all being ushered in through the castle gates which were still under repair from where they had been assaulted earlier by the dangerous cloaked figure whose identity remained to be a mystery. The doors to the audience chamber were the next to be opened for them, and they were blinded momentarily after which they were able to enter.

King Ramone sat upon his golden throne at the far end of the chamber, but arose as the Royal Guard came to a stop before him. Standing on each side of his throne was a person--a girl on the left and a girl on the right. "My beloved Royal Guard, I welcome you back though I saw you just hours earlier--I constantly worry for your safety," the king greeted them all, spreading out his arms as if to embrace them. A couple of guards approached from the side, singling out Sayori and chatting with her about her new position after which she was led away. "I trust you received my message, and as such you know that I have another position that Sayori needs to fill. In return, I offer you two replacements: Royal Guard Initiate Keine Nekohana and Royal Guard Initiate Akari Inuhana," King Ramone introduced the new Royal Guard members, gesturing to the right and left respectively as he said the names. "Please, my two new loyal servants: step forth and introduce yourself to the current Royal Guard composed of the Harmonizer, Grey Vorlaccio; the Reaper of Souls, Daskar Ridgely; and the Knight of the Angels, Nina Renval."

A girl with an almost wolf-like appearance stood on the left-hand side to the king. She had brown hair and eyes, but wore a coat of white fur that covered most of the top of her head and reached down to her ankles, covering her back entirely. Three red tattoos were marked on her face, one on each cheek and another between her eyebrows in the shape of a triangle pointing down. She also wore a white dress that went down to her knees. A human that saw her walking around naked told her to wear it. She was a bit confused by it, but obeyed anyway. She didn't understand the meaning behind clothing. As a wolf, she was always wearing nothing but her fur, and she still had a cloak of her fur on, though it did little to cover her front. She still didn't understand it.

Akari watched with masked interest as she saw a child whisked away by the soldiers. A child that young was a member of the Royal Guard? It surprised her, but nonetheless, she knew that power was not limited by the size of one's body. Her brown eyes wandered to her right to look at the king as he introduced her to the group that arrived, which wandered back when he introduced the group to her.

A Harmonizer, a Reaper, and an Angelic Knight. What an odd combination. Of course, she was rather odd herself. Or so the humans thought. A wolf that took the image of a human was rare in any world. As far as she knew, she was one-of-a-kind.

When the king told her to introduce herself, Akari stepped forward and looked at the one the king introduced first, Grey. So this was her new master, then? He certainly looked the part. Akari drew a bit closer to Grey, so that she was only a few steps away. She then knelt on her left knee and held her right fist to her heart. She did not look up at him, but instead faced her head down and kept her eyes closed. "I am Akari Inuhana. As my new master, I will use my power to become your loyal guardian," she said quietly, her voice soft and light.

As a wolf, Akari wasn't used to the ways of humans. She was quite ignorant to their ways, but she knew that when a human was assigned to protect someone else that was of greater status, they did something like this. The wolf in Akari told her that Grey was the alpha male of the group, so it was him whom she knelt to.

Grey wasted no time in eying the newcomers as they became obvious during King Ramone's little speech. He didn't even notice Sayori being whisked away, and didn't turn to see her go when the king pointed it out that she was going. They hardly knew each other, and it wasn't exactly as if he were attached. However, he was quite interested in the new additions to the Royal Guard--Keine and Akari apparently. The latter approached him after being beckoned by the king to introduce themselves. He watched her tentatively, completely bemused, as she fell to a knee and bowed her head to him, declaring him as her new master, endeavoring to be his loyal guardian. He was pretty much entirely too intrigued to be rubbed the wrong way. After all, he was the Harmonizer; what use did he have for a protector? He was perfectly capable of defending himself just fine. Shaking his head, he finally cleared his mind enough to speak.

"Eh, it's kind of a team effort, ya know?" Grey responded almost sheepishly, desperately trying to maintain his typical composure. This...Akari...had definitely caught him off guard. She was an interesting character--a welcome addition to the Royal Guard in his book. "You don't have to treat me special or anythin'; we can protect each other and the like," he concluded, gesturing for her to stand. It didn't feel right. Maybe the king was used to people being so respectful and subservient to him, but not Grey. He was about the furthest thing from a king as-- His train of thought crashed as he realized his ultimate fusion pretty much got him as close to a monarch as possible, but he refrained from mentioning as such or even giving it further thought. He was just satisfied with making one acquaintance, and he wondered what the other girl would be like.

Akari was surprised to hear what Grey said. Equal treatment between members of the pack? Such a thing couldn't be possible, she never once thought of that possibility. When she was just a pup, her pack taught her that it was important to look to the leader for guidance. It was critical to defend their territory together, to hunt together, but above all, to respect and bow down to the superior, god-given right of the alpha male to rule. Every pack had a leader, and if one did not, then everything became chaos and eventually led to disaster for the pack.

Akari looked up at Grey with astonishment in her eyes. He was unlike any other leader she had ever met. Before she left her previous pack, which happened after she obtained the powers of a familiar, her leader was always at the top. Always taking charge and always siring new pack members. Akari had to leave her own cubs behind because of her newfound powers, and as a result eventually came to this place in hopes of finding a new master.

"If you do not assert your claim of being leader, then how do you stand up to the aggressive natures of the other males in your pack?" Akari asked in a hushed voice, glancing once at the reaper that was called Daskar. "It is the alpha male that rules, without one there can be only chaos." Humans were certainly strange creatures. Akari never expected such behavior, especially from males! Most males wouldn't think twice about lifting her tail after she submitted to their rule. What made humans so different...unless...

Akari looked over at Daskar, confusion showing in her wolfish expression. "Unless you are the alpha male. But no, that couldn't possibly be true...could it? You were introduced to me as the second." Were her instincts wrong? What was going on? Akari didn't understand a single thing about humans. She felt isolated and confused.

What the hell was this girl going on about? As far as Grey knew, there really was no leader to the Royal Guard, granted King Ramone had specifically sought him out as an endeavor. Had it been intended for him to be the leader or something? Then again, how had Ramone chanced upon the two newest additions to their team? Did he seek them out as well? Regardless, Akari was confusing him beyond anything, and when she started going on about Daskar being the leader, he nearly slammed a palm into his face, but refrained. "Chaos, yeah that sounds about right," Grey said coolly as he had flashbacks about the Tiamat battle and the most recent battle with the numerous snowclasps. Regardless, they always pulled through in the end, so what was the big deal?

"If it floats your boat, I guess I'm leader," Grey finally managed to say indifferently, gesturing to Daskar. "A leader that doesn't talk wouldn't be that great of an idea." Now that Grey thought about it, he couldn't remember if Daskar had ever spoken a single word. He was a pretty quiet guy, and that surely wasn't going to cut it when it came to being a leader, not that Grey cared. He was just getting tired of all this blab about alpha males and such. If it would assuage Akari's worries over things falling into the throes of chaos, then so be it. Besides, deep inside, he would know that it would be teamwork that got them all through the numerous dangerous tasks that they would be forced to face as Glaciar's elite.

The trek back to the city had been rather discomforting for the seraph knight. Although Sayori was only a child, one who rarely listened at that, Nina had grown some sort of attachment to the little girl. She did not voice her opinion on the decision, however, and she supposed it was for the best. The danger that came with their missions could get very intense, as the battle with Tiamat proven. Perhaps it was for the best that Sayori would be placed in a different position; she had already been hurt so much, something less combat-oriented, should that be what the king had in mind, would be good for her.

It was not long before they reached the city again, and they were ushered into the palace as soon as they had entered. Sayori's leaving and the king's introduction flew past her and before she knew it there were two people before them. Nina quirked an eyebrow when the first of the two new additions to their team stepped forward, bowing to Grey and addressing him as her new 'master.' It was certainly an... interesting gesture; one that offered a similar first impression. For probably the first time, the seraph knight shifted uncomfortably.

What Grey had said was right: there was no leader. Before he had come along, she had taken on what could be considered a leader's duties, but when one reflected upon her teammates it was only natural. Either way, Nina did not say anything and merely watched the strange female move from Grey to Daskar in confusion over the topic. The seraph knight noticed the soul reaper's gaze almost dart over to her, but it remained stuck in its position. Nina nodded mentally. It was for the best; whether there was a leader or not, they were all a team and it was best for them to work that way.
