"There's no need to apologize, Terra," Alyssia called out reassuringly. "We're all confident in your conclusion. I really think it's our best shot, so try not to worry so much, all right?" She gave the boy a comforting smile before flapping her wings and rising into the air, soaring past the pedestal quickly to the other side of the room. She landed again to get a glimpse of the yellow block. It would have to go to the indentation south of the pedestal. Hopefully it wouldn't take too long to get it down there. The others could help her as soon as they were done with their own blocks.

Alyssia waits.


Cerberus uses Trigger Command: Pull on Red Block! [Pulls Red Block to D7]

Keeping on the straight path, Cerberus kept pulling the block farther and farther until it was right next to the green indentation. He let the block go, his teeth protected from the steel bear trap enhancements Alyssia had purchased for him. In this situation, he was definitely glad to have them. Never would he take them for granted. Slowly, he moved into the indentation and prepared to pull the thing in, and to get out of Alyssia's way so that she could grab the yellow block near him.

Cerberus moves to E7.

Lightning uses Trigger Command: Push on the Purple Block! The Purple Block is moved to C4!

Lightning heaved her weight against the block once again, nodding and standing earlier than normal as she lined it up next to the yellow indent. She proceeded to move around the block and get into position. "Hopefully this works." She muttered, preparing to push the block into the slot.

Lightning moves to C3!

Terra moves to H8!

"O-of course." Terra said, trying to stifle the nervous tone in his voice as he followed Alyssia over to her block. It seemed that she might need a bit of help getting it to its destination and he would oblige. After all, helping her out would mean he did something other than possibly figure it out.

Alyssia moves to B8.

Sighing, Alyssia took the air and soared right over Cerberus and the block he was focused on, curving slightly to land behind the yellow block. With all her might, she pushed the thing as far as she could before she was forced to stop and take a breath. "Damn, at least this is a good workout for us, right?" she called out to her allies lightheartedly. So used to battle, she wasn't as comfortable with straight up manual labor. Battles came easy to her, but moving blocks? Not so much.

Cerberus uses Trigger Command: Pull on Red Block! [Pulls Red Block to E7]

Clamping onto the block one last time, Cerberus took a few steps backwards, easing his way out of the indentation so the red block could take his place. As soon as it was all the way in precisely, Cerberus let go and watched as a column of translucent green light shot upwards around the red block, heading straight for the ceiling. It was exactly the same thing that had happened with the first block, and would most likely be the same thing that happened to all the blocks. He glanced around, ready to lend a helping hand for getting the last block in its place if he was needed.

Cerberus moves to G6.

Lightning pushed against the block once again, letting go as it slid into the indent. Stepping back, she smiled at the sight of yellow light overtaking the purple cube. Once it solidified, she nodded and took a step over in the direction of her allies. "One more."

Terra moves to F7!

"A little manual labor never hurt anyone." Terra agreed, watching as his ally pushed the block towards him. Right then, he realized he was just able to reach it, and would be able to move it. He was not sure it would go very far, but hopefully it would help at least in the slightest. "Allow me." He said as he stepped out to meet the block Alyssia pushed, taking hold of the block. It was nearly impossible for his weak form to move it, but after a lot of strenuous heaving, it finally moved in the direction he wanted it to go.

Terra uses Trigger Command: Pull on the Yellow Block! The Yellow Block is moved to F6!

With all the blocks in place except the yellow, Cerberus prepared to put an end to this puzzle once in for all by setting up the finishing move for his master. He chomped down the block and pulled it back just a little ways so it was lined up next to the indentation it was meant to go into. That done, he released the block and waited for the results of their efforts which would be revealed after his master pushed the block into the indentation.

Cerberus waits.


Alyssia moves to G7.

Alyssia uses Trigger Command: Push on Yellow Block! [Pushes Yellow Block to G5]

That was it. Alyssia flew over to the last block hurriedly and shoved her whole weight into it. With that much force, she was able to slide the thing right into the indentation. She didn't even have to straighten it that time. Translucent purple light swarmed upwards around the yellow light. From above, a rain of the four colors fell down upon them, sparkles of yellow, green, red, and purple light dancing about in the air whimsically. It seemed as though this puzzle...was solved.

The light show continued as the room began to shake. At the far end near the wall opposite the entrance to the chamber, a glowing portal of white and gray energy swirling and mixing appeared. It wasn't like the portal the Diviner had conjured for them, for with this one, they could not see their destination. The stone slab had not lowered itself, so the portal was the only way out of the chamber. They didn't have much of a choice but to enter, and so they did. The group was enveloped by the energy, tossed about wildly. Their feet touched solid ground in a matter of moments, and when they were able to look around, they noticed they were in a chamber much like the one they had just been in, except this one had no stone slab blocking the way into a corridor. This one had no exit at all. In the center of the room was another pedestal with a tablet upon it, once again inscribed with writing. Scattered about on the floor were tiles with what appeared to be letters. On the west wall were four indentations. On the north there were three, and on the east there were four again.

"Fuck." Alyssia had made her curse loud enough for the others to hear. She was kind of queasy from the portal trip, but that didn't stop her from noticing the two giant flying birds in the chamber. Their light brown bodies were bulky and covered in feathers. They had long golden beaks and no eyes, at least none that they could see. Two long golden strands of material flew upwards out of their heads and then fell back like ribbons. Sharp talons could be seen attached to their lower bodies. "Looks like the tower's stepped it up a notch. A fight and a puzzle. This'll be fun," Alyssia grimaced as she produced her weapon. She had to at least get to the pedestal to read the instructions before leaping into the fray.

"Hope you guys are ready."

Lightning hastily drew her gunblade, the metal decompressing as she placed it in a defensive position in front of her. A battle was something she could easily handle, Terra, having shown his skills with puzzles could take on that challenge. When they finished combating the beasts, then they could take on the puzzle with the young Actor. She glanced in his direction for but a moment, a small smile spreading across her face.

Lightning starts at J2!

Terra starts at J5!

Terra held back a groan as the portal did not lead to Torcrea, but instead another trial. It seemed the Tower had other ideas for them, more challenges to combat and emerge victorious from. However, it seemed one more trial had been added to this room in the form of enemies. "I'll start on the puzzle, help best these foes if I can." Terra assured them, looking around for several moments to glance at the mental challenge he would be dealing with. When he noticed the pedestal he frowned, Alyssia would likely need to read that for him. "Alyssia, if you could read the pedestal for me, I'll get right on it."

"No problem. Leave it to me," Alyssia replied firmly before taking to the air and flying towards the pedestal quickly. She had to make sure the instructions were read before the beasts got too impatient, for she was sure she would be busy with handling them soon. Landing gently, she gazed upon the ancient writing on the tablet and grimaced. "It says: 'Passage shall be granted to those who ask for it. Remember, in Amoria we read left to right.' Are you serious?!" Alyssia fumed, her foot tapping against the stone floor angrily. "Can we please have passage?" she asked aloud, her head lifting slightly so she could gaze upon the ceiling as if there were some unknown entity watching from above. There came no response. "Well, I gave it my best shot." Her hand shot into the air. "Brief reprieve before the journey into Hell, protect me!" A swirling gale burst from the ground and formed a protective shell around her in preparation for tackling the foes.

Just like the last puzzle, Cerberus refrained from doing anything about it until they had a plan of action. Luckily, there were enemies about this time, so it wouldn't be as if he were doing nothing. Darkness surged around Cerberus, and he stood upon his hind legs for only a moment before slamming his front paws into the ground to send the darkness out in the form of a giant wave that buffeted the large birds in the distance. Any attack they made would hopefully be returned upon them for extra damage. If the curse succeeded, they would definitely have less trouble from the enemies.

However, this time as she stopped, she conjured a small globe of water in front of her. With a bit of angling, she set it off, watching as it floated over to the target in mind and then swiftly dropped.

Terra listened to Alyssia, carefully thinking over the message for a moment before bowing his head. This puzzle definitely was not as easy as the last one had been; this one would require ample thought on his part. However, it seemed his allies could at least use a bit of help on his part; the enemies were fairly abundant and he did have something to counter it.

Terra quickly thrust his blade forward, strangely releasing a strong gale, which blasted towards the foes. However, the gale was not the only part to this attack, as the Actor quickly used mana to decrease the temperature. It was not long before the water vapor being pushed around by the gale started to congeal and freeze before Terra took further action. A hasty spin and slash combo with the saber caused a myriad of icicles formed from the gale to whip around wildly and cut into their foes.

Alyssia moves to F7.

"Oh man, why do I feel so pissed off at that thing?" Alyssia questioned aloud, sending a hateful glare towards the bird that had taunted her with disgraceful gestures. In her condition, there wasn't much she could do about the puzzle. All she felt like doing was wailing on that bird, so she flew closer to it and slashed at it a couple of times with her blade, hoping the hits would land. The birds were in the air more than she was, so they must have more practice in dodging attacks from below. While she waited for the bird's counterattack, she thought some more about what was inscribed on the tablet, but it just wound up giving her a headache. After all, she had asked for it. But then there was the reminder...

"Remember, in Amoria we read left to right. Are we supposed to write something somehow?" Alyssia informed the others, trying to get some ideas flowing. The sooner they solved the puzzle, the better.

The bird's pathetic wind bullet hardly did anything to the large beast. Shaking off the attack, Cerberus opened his mouths for a retaliation of his own. Flames spewed forth and formed spheres in each mouth. Pulling each head back, he sent the fireballs flying. The middle headed straight for the target while the other two were a bit slower and curved inwards for a strike. The things were pretty agile, so he could hope that each fireball would hit its mark.

Lightning continued over in the direction of the bird that had chosen to attack them all, quite pleased with Terra's attack. The thing had lost a lot of blood thanks to that wild attack he had pulled, and there was about to be more. Raising her blade in the direction of the creature, Lightning began to channel mana; the blade in hand began to pulse with energy as she focused on the bird. With a slash of the blade a bolt of lightning rained down on the creature.

"There are indentations..." Terra said, doing his best to shrug off the attack that had mostly targeted him. He looked around the room at the tiles that were scattered around the floor. Maybe this challenge came in phases? "Left to right..." He looked at the wall to the west, noting four indentations in the wall. "That's... the number of tiles we have." He continued, mostly to himself. He glanced back at the tiles in sight, noting the letters on each of them; stringing the letters together, it took only a moment to realize what the letters spelled out. "Show." Terra called out to his allies. "The tiles spell out 'Show'; Left to right is the same as west to east. Put the tiles in the correct order on the left wall."

Alyssia moves to C7.

"Nice work, Terra," Alyssia called out to the kid. So the goal was to get the tiles into the indentations to spell out their plea? That in mind, she made as if to go grab a tile, but found that she couldn't. Her eyes fell upon the bird that had attacked her and she suddenly felt enraged. Growling lowly, she rushed towards the thing, slashing the air with her blade. Aqueous red energy burst out of the ground and coated her blade just in time for her to lay into the flying bird with a vicious combination of slashes, hoping to draw the blood from its very body. That was all she could think about at the moment, she found. It dominated her very being. She had to see this thing dead.

Shaking his heads, Cerberus found that he couldn't remember how to use any of his skills, not like it mattered. He felt his mana was rather low, so even if he was able to, he would be unable to execute any of his abilities anyway. The beast let out what sounded like a scoff as he started chomping away, snapping at the flying bird as it dodged and weaved through the air. It was hard to hit, and feathers were fluttering through the air. He wasn't sure if he managed to get hold of it or not, but as he calmed down, he would be able to see the fruits of his efforts.

Cerberus waits.

A glare took over Lightning's visage as she looked upon the creature that deftly dodged the bolt of lightning she had called down. Her eyes sharpened dangerously as she raised the blade once again, calling upon the lightning once more. However, instead of dropping a bolt on the target, instead it danced along her blade and she slashed at her target again with a heated passion.

The 'H' tile was all the way on the other end of the chamber; it would take him a while to get to it. Maybe Alyssia could get it once her anger wore off...

Alyssia moves to G7.

The tile with the letter 'h' on it was right near her, but no matter how hard she tried to edge her way over to it, she couldn't. Her mind was enraptured with the bird, though she could feel the effects fading. Before she knew it, she was flying after it, landing and slashing the air with her blade in order to call more of the blood of the damned from the depths of Hell to shroud her blade. Coated in that blood, she slashed away at the bird once more to make it suffer--to make it bleed like it had never bled before.

"Sorry, guys...," she called out to the others. "This thing's magic...it's got hold of me or something. All I can do is attack it." She kept her blade steady as if to attack again, but her mind was so clear. Maybe...if she could just focus a little more, she could break the spell.

Cerberus moves to F5.

His left head saw Terra placing in the tile. There was a resounding click and that section of wall began to surge with green energy that took the form of the letter 'S', almost like a hologram. The beast also noted that the bird he and Lightning had been attacking retreated, but it was up something. Opening its beak, the bird was drawing in energy of its own, and whatever was going to come of it couldn't be good. Taking note of that, Cerberus got out of the way; it looked like it might fire something directly in front of it, but there was no telling. At least he could say he tried to get out of the way in the case he was hit regardless.

Cerberus waits.

Upon seeing the creature begin to charge a powerful attack, Lightning moved quickly, closing most of the gap the beast had created. Whatever it was getting ready for, she would need to stop it, or at least try to. If she failed, at least it would focus on her... she hoped. Raising her gunblade, she quickly slashed down, causing a bolt of lightning to strike down on the winged creature before a wave of mana passed over her.

He knew that she could do it, and when she did she could help him with the puzzle. Meanwhile, he was fairly certain that the others could handle the beasts; they were, after all, almost finished off.

Alyssia moves to D7.

Finally! Alyssia found herself able to move about freely, her mind no longer dominated by the hatred she had felt for the bird just moments ago. A grin spread across her face as the bullets hit her and did hardly anything, merely grazing her protection. She downright dodged the last hit and rushed off through the air to find the tile that was needed. Seeing the 'H' upon it, Alyssia landed next to the chosen tile and picked it up. It would have to go in the indentation next to the 'S' if Terra's theory was correct. In the depths of her mind, she really did want to finish off the bird, but solving the puzzle was number one priority for the moment, especially since the monsters weren't giving them too much trouble.

So it was just as the beast had though--the bird was firing a laser. Luckily, no one was in the way. Shrugging off the other bird's attacks, he took the time to feel his master's anxiety about defeating the creature. It would be difficult for him to actually put the tiles in the indentations, so he figured he would stick with ridding the others of the plague that these birds presented. Moving closer to the one that was bleeding, Cerberus chomped away at it madly, intent on snapping onto it at least once. He had been worried about their aerial acrobatics once before, it proved that their evasion wasn't as keen as it could have been. After fighting the Diviner, this was a breeze.

Lightning's eyes focused in on the target, compressing her blade as she aimed for its flying form. As soon as she was certain the bullets would lodge themselves within the beast's body, she pulled the trigger twice. She then quickly dashed in the other direction, so as to get to the other tile that they would need.

Terra was just about to go grab the next tile when he noticed the birds in a line; with just enough mana left to pull off his water based attack, he was quick to choose instead to move into range. Drawing his saber again, he quickly span around before thrusting the blade forward in the direction of the bird. A surge of water shot forward and knocked both birds back, succeeding in knocking the farther off bird into a wall.

Alyssia moves to F3.

Holding on tightly to the tile, Alyssia took to the air and flew as quickly as she could across the room, keeping a close eye on the two birds charging up their laser attacks. That was one thing she'd rather avoid having to deal with. Setting down gently, she took a second glance at the indentations at the wall just to make sure that she targeted the right one. It was close. Taking out the tile, she prepared to place it in.

Alyssia waits.

Cerberus attacks Annoy! 4 hits! 18 Dmg per hit! (ATK)

Surely the birds knew it was hopeless? They charged up their attacks, but they were so weak that they could be taken out before they even had a chance to fire. Cerberus bounded towards the one that had been irritating his master earlier and launched into a flurry of vicious biting, aiming to end the life of the annoying creature once and for all. That would free the others up to focus on the puzzle.

Lightning uses Trigger Command: Pick Up on Tile O!

Lightning warily looked at the beast which was charging up for a powerful attack, but just as she was about to strike it she noticed a familiar surge of water. Terra had it covered, so now she could focus on finishing the puzzle. Reaching down, she picked up the tile titled 'O' and dashed over in another direction.

Lightning moves to D2!

Terra casts Torrente on Column 4! Pester is hit! 15 Int Water Damage! Knocks Target 3 Cells Back!

Terra had been quick to follow his previous attack by stringing another one. The full circle turn completed almost seconds after the prior thrust, finished with another strike forward. Another surge of water blasted forward, but the Actor spent no time in his position as one of the other birds began to charge up power. He quickly ducked under it, but fell forward upon getting around it, failing to grab the tile.

Alyssia moves to G2.

Terra's watery attack hadn't connected with the flying beast. Persisting to stay alive, she had to turn away as the bird turned its body to face Lightning before releasing the pent up energy in the form of a giant concentrated ray of energy. "Lightning, are you okay?!" Alyssia called out to her ally, navigating herself to the proper indentation. They had faced a lot over the course of their rather fresh journey. It couldn't have been any worse than the exploding main activation units. It still didn't stop Alyssia from becoming worried. Taking her tile, she fitted it into the indentation. She heard a loud click and more green energy surged into existence, taking the form of the letter on the tile.

Alyssia uses Trigger Command: Place Tile! [Places 'H' Tile into Indentation G1]


Cerberus moves to E6.

With not much to do, Cerberus walked past the pedestal, a predatory gaze in each and every one of his red eyes. He figured he could get revenge for Lightning while she was occupied with the tile. All he needed to do was catch up to the bird. He had a feeling that the flying beast wasn't content with just one laser, though one could never know.

Cerberus waits.

"I'm fine." Lightning stated as she did her best to shrug off the beast's attack. It had hurt, but not nearly as much as the flame spitting Activation Unit's attack. Keeping a strong hold on the tile, she moved away from the creature and then pushed it into the indentation before turning to Terra. "Finish it."

"Y-yes, Lightning." Terra responded, taking a firm hold on his saber. In a flash of light he appeared behind the flying creature and swiftly slashed upwards. If it hit, then finally the bird would be dead, or better yet lost to the void.

Alyssia moves to G7.

She could see the hologram of the letter 'O' take its place as Lightning inserted her tile into the indentation next to her. That just left one letter, and the bird was refusing to die. "I've got the last tile; everyone else can lay into that thing!" she informed her allies as she flew off to grab the 'w' tile, landing next to it only briefly to pick it up before taking to the air again, ready to fly towards to the last indentation when she got the chance.

Cerberus moves to C5.

Cerberus waits.

Cerberus growled as the bird deigned to get farther away, charging up its laser to surely try and hit Lightning and his master. He would have just cast magic if he had enough mana, but for now, he was stuck. Stopping just north of the pedestal, he cast glares at the flying creature, for that is all he could do at the moment.

Lightning attacks Pester! 2 Hits! 23 Atk Damage per hit!

A wave of mana quickly overtook Lightning as more damage was inflicted on her person. There was no doubt the entire group would require healing soon, and she wanted to get right on it. However, the bird still lived despite Terra's attack, and that pissed her off. Raising her blade, she fired two bullets at the creature, hoping they connected.

Lightning moves to E4!

Terra casts Fortificazione di Luce on Lightning! 11 Int Light Healing! Bestows Immunity and Regen!

"Lightning!" Terra called out, noticing just how severe her wounds were becoming. It would not be long before the soldier would be on her last leg, and from there not much further until she was defeated. Seeking to rectify the situation, Terra quickly casted his blade upward and then down in the direction of his ally. In moments, a wondrous light surrounded the soldier and her wounds began to heal; majorly at first, but then slowly also.

Alyssia moves to F2.

They were finally rid of their rather irritating bird problem for the moment. It freed her to fly through the air leisurely with the tile. Landing near the wall, she gazed at the last indentation that needed to be filled. Thinking about the letters now, 'SHOW' was really the only thing that made sense. There were still seven other indentations though. Did that mean they were going to be forced to spell out something else? Terra seemed to assume that they would, so she stayed prepared for more tile collecting if it should come to that.

Alyssia waits.


Cerberus waits.

With the last enemy down, Cerberus sat on his haunches and took a breather. The birds had kept him moving about like crazy with their aerial hit-and-run tactics. It was nice to be able to just relax for a moment. Still seemed like there was more of the puzzle to solve, so he stayed wary of anything that might happen in the near future.

Lightning was about to cast a healing spell on herself when a burst of light enveloped her being. When it faded, she felt almost infinitely better, and continued to heal at a fast pace as she stood still. It would not be long until she was back to normal, and she had Terra to thank for that.

Terra smiled as Lightning looked down at her now, mostly healed, body. It was good to see his healing had been so effective, especially since he had only recently learned it. Choosing to watch Alyssia as she flew over to the last indent, his smile grew. Hopefully his assumption would be correct and more tiles would appear for them to use in the puzzle.
