Lightning attacks Irritate! 2 Hits! 23 Atk Damage per Hit!

Lightning grunted as the creature's attack connected with her and quickly raised her blade only to stagger slightly. No matter what she did, she could not remember how to shift her mana into the electrical current that amplified her attacks. Reassuming her former composure, the soldier steadied herself and raised her blade. One slash was quickly followed up by a pulling of the trigger. Hopefully the creature would at least have gotten hit by one of her attacks.

Terra moves to I5!

Terra quickly followed up his attack by dashing over to the creature once more. Despite his previous ability recovering his mana, he was not able to call on his abilities by normal means. Sacrificing one of his two remaining gifts, he raised his blade at the creature. In a flash he moved faster than normal, using a technique which had not seen action in several battles. Strike after strike, each one hit, causing the creature to shriek in pain.

Alyssia moves to B3.

Alyssia practically leaped towards the indentation and jammed the tile in making sure it was straight in its place. Another click resounded through the chamber and more green energy surged upwards from below along the wall, forming a hologram of the letter 'T' in front of where the tile was placed. "Definitely on the right track," she said to herself, more confident in her conclusion regarding this part of the puzzle. Eyes darting towards the final wall with the four indentations, a stream of words passed through her mind. It would wind up reading: SHOW THE...something. It would have been nice to have an idea of what it might be before the next tiles showed up, but the more she thought, the more frustrated she became, and thus she waited. The next tile was easily within her grasp and she would be able to quickly get it into the proper indentation. The others were still holding off the bird, but after fighting for this long, they were sure to be getting tired. Just hang in there...

The shadows surrounding him responded to the attack to reduce the damage, even though it was unnecessary. The bullets of wind hardly did anything to the three-headed beast. Hints of what might have been smirks appeared on each head and he pressed on the bird, unleashing another session of biting and gnawing. His last array of chomps seemed to all land precisely, and he hoped that it would be the case once again. The sooner they landed this bird, the better.

Terra did an about face as he realized his attack had no chance of connecting, he was not in range for it to work. Mentally face-palming, the Actor moved back into position and with a quick twirl thrusted his blade in the creature's direction; yet another blast of water flew at it.

Alyssia moves to D4.

Alyssia decided to skip the 'H' tile for now and skirted back just a bit to nab the 'E' tile. She was sure that as long as she set it in the right place, everything would be okay in terms of breaking the order. The bird was still alive, of course, for its aerial evasive maneuvers were proving to be rather difficult to break through. In the depths of her mind, she knew at least one more would be coming after she finished this word. It pained her, but the main priority was the puzzle. The others weren't on the brink of death it seemed, just annoyed most likely. She sighed and held the tile tightly while turning to face the indentation into which she had to place it.

There it was. The bird must have been at wit's end, for it was charging up the laser once again. Growling ferociously, Cerberus laid into it with everything he had, mainly chomping with his steel-coated fangs, reinforced by the bear trap. He knew it would be unwise to stay in the case that his teeth had not made their true mark, and thus he dodged out of the way of the impending attack knowing that it had a linear range from past experience.

Cerberus moves to H3.

"It's gonna fire that laser." Lightning said to the other two, knowing that even if one of their attacks missed the beast (which was highly likely) it would have just enough energy left to do it. Still, the thing would have to go down as soon as possible, laser or not; so hopefully all of their attacks would end up hitting.

Terra nodded in response to Lightning's comment, knowing full well that they were all in perfect position to be hit by it. "Best get out of the way." He said to himself mostly, raising his blade to perform the attack that would be of most use in this situation. He felt the last of his reserve mana pools fade as he span quickly and began to strike rapidly. Blood hitting the floor was the last thing he was able to note before he turned to leave.

The laser. How could she have not noticed? Her gaze sharply fell upon the great bird. It had already turned to face her with the energy concentrated for the laser at its climax. Just as it brought its head down, Alyssia took flight and dodged to the side, the laser just barely missing. She coud feel the heat radiate from the stream and could only take solace in the fact that she had managed to get out of the way in time. Shaking her head, she snapped herself out of that daunting reverie and remembered the task at hand.

Alyssia moves to B7.

Everything was a blur as she zipped through the air and landed at her target place in a mere second. Standing before the indentation, she relinquished the tile she had collected and pressed it firmly into its slot until she heard the signature click that told it was in place properly. Stepping back, she watched as the energy flowed out of the ground to form the hologram of the letter inscribed upon the tile. She hadn't been sure about skipping a letter, but after waiting anxiously for something bad to happen, she came to the conclusion that everything was all right as long as the proper tile was in its proper place.

Cerberus whimpered just a bit as he realized where the beam was headed, but his ears perked up when he heard the flapping. His master must have moved out of the way in time. It only took a mere blink of all six eyes to realize Alyssia had made it to the indentation unscathed. But that was something unforgivable. Cerberus slid back into his position and unleashed a myriad of vicious bites at the weary bird. How much longer could it stick around? How much resolve to live did it truly possess? The task it was presented must have been one of great importance for it to be so persistent.

Lightning scowled as she realized that the bird dodged both of her attacks. She could have sworn she felt the blade rip into the creature, but apparently that had been incorrect. "Can't be helped." She thought to herself, raising her blade and firing off two more bullets. It had to die soon.

Terra stood in place, watching as Alyssia barely dodged the laser that had been fired off at her. She had not even attempted to bother the creature and instead it attacked her. Thankfully she was unharmed, but the action still puzzled the young Actor. "I wonder if all creatures are like that..." He murmured.

Alyssia moves to E7.

Satisfied with her tile placement, she flew off and picked up the last tile. It seemed that the others had finally rid themselves of the immense annoyance that was the bird. She didn't want to ruin their moment to relax, but they had to stay on guard. "I have a feeling there might be more coming after this placement. You might want to prepare yourselves," she called out to her allies. There was no guarantee that another one or two might pop up, but based on the last completion of the word, it was more than likely. To the tower, it must have been some sick joke, and it certainly wouldn't be funny if they weren't under the constant stress of a monster attack. Such were trials, though. She sighed to herself and got ready to place the final tile for the north wall.

Alyssia uses Trigger Command: Pick Up on 'H' Tile!


Cerberus waits.

A brief moment to catch his breath and recover. He remembered times in the past when moments like these meant nothing, but now that this puzzle was working them to death, it was nice to take a minute and just breath without having to worry about getting a giant laser to the face. His master was right though. Another one could apparently pop up anytime and anywhere. He kept his hearing alert and reflexes tensed. Now wasn't the time to let one's guard down all the way. Not yet.

Lightning pressed a hand to her heart, thankful for the moments rest that came between slaying the previous creature and the placement of the next tile. A wave of mana quickly washed over her, a burst of light appearing in hand as she readied her healing spell. In a moment, she directed her hand towards Terra and watched as the light healed some of his major injuries.

Terra casts Arcadia on Himself! +15% Atk and Int! 5% Max Mp Recovery for Five Turns!

Terra sighed contentedly as he felt his injuries begin to close themselves, nodding in Lightning's direction as a sign of thanks. He had his own healing spell, but to use it would drain him of all of his mana, if he could just recover some more of that he would be able to cast it without issue. Raising his blade into the air, he felt more light wash over him and begin to restore his nearly empty mana resource.

Alyssia moves to B5.

Not wasting any time, Alyssia flew towards the wall she had been working on and landed hurriedly in front of the central indentation. Taking the last tile she collected, she placed it in the slot, adjusting it slightly until she heard the resounding click and watched as the green energy surged upwards to form the hologram of the letter on the tile. Alyssia took a step back and admired her handiwork, but that didn't last long. A bright light filled the room just as it had before. The final part of the puzzle was at hand. Alyssia turned swiftly to see a bird hovering near the left wall, and of course there were more letter tiles scattered about. Four in total. Just enough to fit into the last wall. "We've almost got it down, guys! This'll be the final stretch!" she called out to the others.

Cerberus cringed as the bright light filled the room once again. It was too predictable. A quick scan of the room proved Cerberus's hypothesis correct: there was a new bird nearby. Taking the opportunity of the first strike, the might beast bounded towards the flying creature and allowed himself to take huge chomps at it, fangs longing to sink into the large avian's flesh. A flurry of feathers rained down as a result, but he couldn't tell if he had managed to land any hits yet. His eyes surveyed the thing's body, hoping to see bleeding wounds amidst the feathers.

Lightning eased slightly as the final set of tiles appeared in a flash, but quickly regained her stance upon seeing the beast. One more to finish off hopefully, and by logical standards it should be the last one. Taking several steps in its direction, she raised her blade and fired off two bullet at the creature quickly. She then braced herself, knowing fully well that the thing would retaliate.

Terra nearly jumped upon seeing the tile appear right next to him. "Well, that makes this easier." He said to himself as he relaxed and put his saber away. He quickly picked it up and noticed the indent was on the other end of the room. Well, he already had it in his hands, might as well get it to where it had to go.

Alyssia moves to C4.

Alyssia decided to walk towards the nearest tile, picking it up to see the letter 'A' upon it. There was an 'H' in the corner near her. From her new vantage point, she could see the one tile in the far corner near Cerberus. "Cerberus, what letter is on that tile?" she called out to him which might have made her seem crazy. Cerberus hadn't spoken once since the journey began, and that was because he was truly unable to. She watched as Cerberus moved his heads from right to left which she recognized as going backwards. He then proceeded to bark seven times. "It must be the alphabet of the current language. So the letter is 'T' then..." She saw that Terra had one tile, but she didn't even need to know what was on it to know what the final word spelled.

"Well, we do need a path out of here, of course."

Alyssia uses Trigger Command: Pick Up on 'A' Tile!

Cerberus moves to I2.

Cerberus uses Trigger Command: Pick Up on 'T' Tile!

After indicating what letter was on the tile nearest him, Cerberus approached that very tile. Bending one head down to sniff it, he gently let his rough tongue snake out of that head and pick up the tile carefully. He pulled his tongue with the tile on it back into his mouth and quickly raised his tongue so that the tile was sandwiched between his tongue and the roof of his mouth. He wondered if he'd be able to fit the tile into one of the indentations, but realized he didn't know what the word spelled. He would merely carry the tile closer to the indentations and let one of the others place the tile unless they gave him directions on where to put it. He cast a wary glare at the bird; it was employing hit-and-run tactics like the other birds had. Perhaps it would come back in for another attack on him. If so, he would be ready for it.

Lightning brushed off the counterattack the bird creature had given her, raising her blade as a flare of mana washed over her. "Mistake on it's part." She said with a smirk as she dashed over to the beast. A quick horizontal slashed followed with a vertical one and finished with a bullet flying at the creature. Hopefully all of the hits would land and it would focus in on her.

Terra moves to F8!

"Excuse me." Terra said to the bird as if it would just let him pass by, moving next to Lightning. He was still carrying the 'P' tile still, and from what he could see of the others they had the letters 'A' and 'T'. Before he could come to his own conclusion however, Alyssia spoke up and he nodded, and then looked over to Cerberus. "When you get the chance, Cerberus, place that tile in the third indent."

Alyssia moves to E8.

Alyssia with tile in hand zoomed off across the room, landing near the proper indentation on the opposite wall. There was no point in wasting time, especially since Terra succumbed to the bird's squawking taunts. She remembered when she had fallen under its spell and wanted nothing to do nothing but rip the thing apart. "Terra, leave your tile here before you go off to kick ass and I'll put it in the slot," she spoke to him calmly since he was nearby. She took the tile with the 'A' on it and placed it into the indentation until she heard the signature click. A burst of green energy surged upwards and the hologram of the letter on the tile was formed. That took care of one. Terra had the other, but she was going to handle that one. Cerberus had another. And the last one was in the nearby corner. Gathering them all up and placing them was going to be a piece of cake now. She allowed herself a contented grin.

Alyssia uses Trigger Command: Place Tile on Indentation (E9)!


Cerberus moves to I5.

Cerberus nodded to Terra who had kindly let him know where to place the tile. His six eyes focused on the indentation, and it seemed he wouldn't have to deal with the annoyance that was the giant bird. Whoever placed them in conjunction with this particular puzzle must have been an evil mastermind aiming to torture whoever had to complete it. Cerberus moved forward, careful to keep the tile in place in his mouth and came to a stop, bracing himself in the case of another attack. Losing the tile now would be horrible since they appeared to be so close to the resolution of this trial.

Cerberus waits.

Seeing as the bird was bent on annoying them to no end, Lightning decided it would be in their best interest to get a better angle. If it could not get out of her reach then it would be forced to deal with her. Taking a couple steps to the side, she raised her blade and fired off two more bullets, hoping once more that they hit the forsaken creature.

"Erm... yeah." Terra muttered, kneeling and letting go of the tile. Whatever the bird's magic was trying to do, it was working. The creature had succeeded in making him want to hit it more than ever and he was determined to kick its ass. Brandishing his saber once more, he dashed off in the direction of the bird.

Alyssia uses Trigger Command: Pick Up on 'P' Tile!

Alyssia took a step closer to the tile Terra had dropped and picked it up herself. It seemed all the tiles were close to the wall now; she and Cerberus would be able to make short work of putting them all in place as long as Lightning and Terra handled the bird creature. The 'P' tile she collected had to go in the indentation farther down near the north wall. Once placed, she could snatch up the 'H' tile and fly right back to the other side of the room to place it. She was trying to figure out a set amount of time it would take to do all of that, but figured it would be done when it was done in the end.

Cerberus moves to H7.

Being hit by the wind bullets was annoying, but the pain was negligible. Two of his heads growled while the one with the tile resisted the urge to join the others. Forcing himself to trod closer to the desired space in the wall, he took solace in the fact that the bird was far away from him now. It would be easier to keep his patience if the thing weren't attacking him. He had already thought it once, but it never hurt to remember that losing the tile he had would put them in a horrible situation.

Cerberus waits.

As the bullet of wind energy hit her Lightning flashed a quick flow of mana over herself before a larger wave washed over her. With power coursing through her once more she dashed after the retreating bird; it had to go down soon! As soon as she was in range Lightning released not two but four bullets, watching as they whizzed through the air. Hopefully the bird would not be able to dodge them...

Terra moves to G3!

The bird was pissing him off to no end, especially since he could not get into range to hit the damn thing. Terra did not want to attempt to hit it, he wanted to actually run his blade through it so that they could get on with the trials of the tower. The malice he felt towards the creature was no doubt the magic's doing, but he could handle it. Seeing as he was just barely in range, Terra sighed before thrusting his blade in the creature's direction. Instantly water vapor around it began to condense and freeze; hopefully the bird would be stuck as an ice statue.

Alyssia moves to C8.

As Alyssia flew towards the next indentation, she watched as the remaining bird was turned into an ice statue and fell to the ground with a heavy thud. "Looks like that would be the end of that thing," Alyssia uttered to herself in relief as she placed the tile she was carrying carefully into its proper slot in the wall. The click could be heard and the green energy surged upwards from below, forming the hologram of the letter that was on the tile. She shot a sidelong glance at the tile sitting right next to her. That would be the last one once Cerberus managed to place his tile. Then, they could finally move on. Whoever designed this particular trial certainly hadn't held back. She wondered if this would be the last one, but it was far too early on to be thinking like that.

Alyssia uses Trigger Command: Place Tile on Indentation (C9)!


Cerberus moves to G8.

Cerberus uses Trigger Command: Place Tile on Indentation (G9)!

Finally reaching the wall, Cerberus allowed the tile in his mouth to fall upon his tongue. Opening his mouth, he lowered his head to level with the indentation and slowly slid his tongue out, pressing the tile to the slot while trying to push it in as carefully as he could. Though the tile was covered in saliva, it didn't take him long to get it perfectly placed, the telltale click resounded through the air. The beast took a step back and watched in awe as the hologram formed from the green energy that had formed the others. Alyssia would have the last tile under control while Lightning and Terra could do away with the last bird. At the end, everything turned out to come together quite nicely.

Lightning attacks Bug! 2 Hits! 23 Atk Damage per Hit!

Lightning was quick to follow through after watching the bird get turned into a ice statue courtesy of Terra. No longer would the thing be able to dodge her assaults, and as long as it remained in that casing of ice it would take even more damage. Silently relishing in that fact, Lightning approached the statues and with two quick slashes it burst into a million pieces, revealing a very bloody mess that had been their enemy.

The last bird fell just as Alyssia managed to crouch down and pick up the final tile. She took to the air instantly and soared right over Cerberus, landing in front of the last open indentation. Wasting no time, she shoved the tile in and was surprised to hear the click so quickly. Usually it took some adjusting, but she must have picked up some tile-placing skill thanks to this horrible trial. She fought back the urge to laugh as she watched the hologram of the letter form from the green energy. "Show the path." That was what it had read, as expected. "What a tedious trial..."

The room began to shake once again, and this time, green light suffused the space as a portal opened up on the north wall just like the last one. The light remained intense and there was a heavy pressure in the chamber. There was no choice but to run forwards through the portal to escape the crushing feeling. Upon stepping into the portal, the group was tossed around again until their feet landed on a solid surface, and upon looking around, they realized they were in yet another chamber that was similar to the last. Another stone pedestal could be seen in the middle, and there were odd lit up panels on the floor with arrows on them pointing in random directions. Beyond that, there was nothing else in the chamber. Alyssia lookd around and put her hands on her hips, obviously displeased. "Well, here we go again. At least there doesn't appear to be any monsters this time," she said, trying to look on the bright side. They could solve the puzzle without having to deal with the pain dished out by whatever monsters were being held in this place.

"Might as well get started. I call pedestal."

Lightning placed her blade back in its holster, there did not seem to be any enemies for them to deal with this time. If any did appear she would be able to handle them quickly, her blade was not far out of reach. But all that seemed to be in the room was them and the puzzle; as there had been in the first room. "You direct, we'll follow." Lightning said, the comment directed at Terra who had been the brains of the group for the previous puzzles.

"Alright." the Actor answered with a nod, looking around the room. The pedestal was Alyssia's to take on, she could read it out to them and then he could figure it out. There were several panels littering the floor, with what appeared to be arrows on them. "I wonder what we'll have to do..." Terra mumbled to himself, trying to think up just what kind of challenge the room could present.

"There's no telling, so let's find out," Alyssia responded to Terra's pondering, walking up to the pedestal still wary of any traps that might be scattered about. She placed her hands gingerly on the pedestal and gazed over the scrawling on the stone tablet. "It says: 'Indicate the object that seems to be the center of attention time and time again with what has been given to you, and you shall be granted passage'," she called out to the others so that they could hear clearly. The gears were beginning to spin quite quickly in her head. What they were given were obviously the weird lit panels with the arrows on them. Were they supposed to point something out? What on earth was supposed to be the center of attention? There wasn't much of anything in the chamber except them and...the pedestal. "Well, that was easy enough," Alyssia said aloud, turning to face her allies with a mischievous grin, not voicing what conclusion she had reached.


Cerberus waits.

Cerberus growled slightly, a bit displeased. He couldn't figure it out right away; it felt like his master was teasing him. With each of his six eyes, he surveyed the chamber and saw the panels. It obviously had something to do with them. A few moments passed, and he gazed right into Alyssia's eyes before it dawned on him. Not knowing where to start, he figured he could just wait for the others to take charge before lending his aid.

Terra's own gears began to spin rapidly as the riddle was read out loud; he quickly came to a conclusion he was certain Alyssia had also. The look on her face reassured him, and when he glanced to Lightning, she too had figured it out as well. "It seems fairly straight forward." the Actor reasoned as he took a couple steps in the direction of one of the panels.

Terra moves to I5!

Upon getting a closer look, Terra could only smile; they would not have to pick up or push the panels into place. It appeared if they commanded them they would move on their own. "Move here." Terra voiced to the panel, pointing to the open space directly in front of him. The panel responded by floating over to where it was asked to be placed.

Terra uses Trigger Command: Slide on Panel H4! Panel H4 is moved to H5!

The Actor nodded with a small smile on his face before turning to Lightning. "Ask it to turn." he added, watching as the soldier took a couple steps forward to do as asked.

Lightning moves to H6!

However, just as Lightning as about to order the panel to rotate, she paused. The place likely had traps around here somewhere, perhaps pointing the tile in the wrong direction or at the wrong thing would activate one. Lightning instead focused on another nearby tile before speaking. "Move there." she stated, pointing to make the desired location clear.

Lightning uses Trigger Command: Slide on Panel G7! Panel G7 is moved to F7!

"But-"

"Best not take any chances. Alyssia can move out of the way first."

"Good, so everyone's on board. Let's do this," Alyssia said in a satisfied tone, dodging around the pedestal before glancing at the panel nearest her. "Move down to that spot there, good fellow," she chided the panel, watching as it shifted easily to the spot she had designated. "Cerberus...er, I'm not sure if it'll work, but try barking at it to turn it. All we can do is hope it works. If it doesn't, don't worry about it, boy. We'll be able to handle it just fine," she ordered her partner, unsure if animal sounds would be sufficient to move the panels. Cerberus nodded to his master and trod forward, focusing on the panel she had just moved. Opening his middle mouth, he barked a few times. A few seconds passed and nothing seemed to be happening. Just as the beast was about to give up hope, the panel began to turn until the arrow upon it was pointing at the pedestal. Well, it seemed it would work out all right after all.
