Not being in range, Silver was hesitant to take a step forward. There was no telling what these things could do and frankly, Silver did not want to be on the other end of it. Holding his ground he would wait for them to come into his range before he did anything else.

The mechanical creature quickly recovered from the impact of the missiles and positioned itself, then from its front shot a laser beam that seemed to completely miss both Kuori and Silver. But then the beam slowly began to move, sweeping across and eventually striking both of them.

Silver didn't get the chance to respond as the mechanical crab quickly launched a laser at him, only to have the other come up around him and strike. Knocking the overgrown metal crustacean off of him. He quickly fired off one of his most basic spells.

Kuori's mechanisms started overheating as her biological body became weaker and weaker due to the loss of blood from the continuous assaults of the mechanical crustaceans. She placed her right hand on the exoskeleton of the one that had been shooting lasers at her, and sounds of metal clashing could be heard and when Kuori let go, there was a large dent on the shell. Then without waiting for retaliation, a hole opened up in Kuori's palm and a stream of fire shot out.

As the last crab fell to the burns Silver had inflicted on it, a loud scream came from none too far away. A girl's voice ringing out, causing the newly fallen Silver to bolt upward without a single complaint. Rushing off without a single word, Kuori was left to follow him as he ran towards the scream. Stopping only when he came before a large river, a small island in the middle holding a young girl. This had to be her.

"I'll get her."

Silver took a few steps over to the river, not minding the muddy bank, and making it to the water. But as he barely skimmed the water's surface with his shoe, the water began to suddenly churn wildly, a large spike knocking him off his feet into the mud below.

"Huh?"

"Intruders. You are not welcome here. Leave at once!"

Silver scrambled back as another spike of water came flying at him. Dashing behind Kuori the water fell to the ground harmlessly. What did he do now? He didn't understand. Was she really angry at him for coming near the river... or what? Biting his lower lip, he prepared to fight her. They had to get the girl after all.

As the smoke left behind by the myriad of missiles drifted away from the angered spirit shot an evil glare at the machine. With a quick array of movements the spirit sent a large amount of water from behind her forward. Skipping over the boy who had run in front of his companion, the water charged at the mechanical girl in the back drenching her in seconds.

But the spirit was not yet finished and quickly raised an arm into the air creating an aqua colored seal. In seconds the seal was broken and an image of water rushing freely washed over her. She seemed unchanged, but it was obvious that she had done something.

At the sight of Kuori getting drenched and thrown back Silver twitched slightly. Whoever this spirit girl was, she certainly could pack a punch. Kuori's eye twitched, her movements began to slow down and become less smooth, being hit by that water must've been difficult for someone like her who was part machine. Although a quick internal system check proved that no actual harm has been done, Kuori was clearly pissed. And what's more, the android girl couldn't even pay back the river girl for this little counterattack, courtesy of Silver blocking her way. She forced her body to move and made her way up behind Silver.

"Move...now..." Kuori said in a very harsh tone, partially because of the short circuit caused by the water.

But the spirit didn't stop there, for with two more movements six pillars of water raised up underneath the opposition.

Silver rushed forward, wanting nothing more than to strike the spirit once more for knocking him back earlier. But just as he was about to call down lightning once more, a voice rang out, the lightning missing by an inch.

"No, stop!"

"Huh?"

Off in the middle of the river, the previously passed out girl was making her way through the water. She stopped near the spirit, grabbing hold of her arm, begging her to stop.

"Please don't harm them Aqua... They're not like those creatures..."

"But Serenity-"

"They're different."

The spirit began to protest but nodded slightly after a moment, the rushing river behind her calming. While she looked displeased with the idea of letting the two strangers go she would listen to the girl she had been protecting.

Inconclusive Battle

Kuori stared at the event that had unfolded, she had suffered severe damage during that last attack the water spirit made, another wave of water like that and Kuori would've possibly really have died. She couldn't believe it, she almost lost, and it was to someone like that. There was a sinking feeling inside Kuori, she dropped to her knees as the excess water from the spirit's attacks leaked deep into her body, until it finally reached her "heart". At that point, Kuori immediatly short circuited and collapsed into an unmoving, almost lifeless metal husk. Muttering the phrase, "I can't...believe...that I've...lost..." over and over again.

Silver stood confused as well, unable to process what had gone on in those last few seconds. The girl that had stopped the fighting had been knocked out cold just moments before she intervened. And yet here she was, standing perfectly and stopping the fight that Kuori and Silver would have lost.

Ignoring his friend, Silver took a couple steps forward to Aqua's displeasure. But he ignored her as well, looking at Serenity instead.

"I don't quite understand."

"There's no point in a battle which ought not to have taken place at all."

Silver nodded, still rather confused, but he made nothing of it. Just as he went to speak again, the girl cut him off.

"I suppose you are the party that DSoED sent for me?"

"Uh... yeah... my friend and I were sent to help you deactivate some tower or something..."

"Oh. Well... I'm sorry for the trouble you had in getting to me... allow me to make it up to you..."

No more had to be said, as Aqua knew that the girl would come to her within the next second and she preferred to cut to the chase. Waving her hand with disinterest all of the water that clogged Kuori's system was forced out and back into the river where it belonged.

Moments after the water left Kuori's system, the android girl stood up and dusted herself off before turning her head toward Silver and the others with a cranking noise. Her eyes looked no different from before, until of course they suddenly began to glow red as Kuori lifted up her right arm, pointing her index finger toward Silver, possibly aiming to shoot. That possibility became reality, however, when Kuori opened her mouth to speak.

"Unknown data entities detected, threat level: High." Kuori began, "ASSIMILATE!"

The confusion was back again no sooner than it left. Serenity and Aqua especially confused, as Aqua had supposedly 'fixed' Kuori, but it didn't seem so. Silver, while not as confused was still rather shocked, unable to do more than stand there as Kuori appeared to be ready for a fight. However, shock could only last so long as he made a quick recovery getting in between Kuori and the others.

"Kuori... lower your arm..."
