Life's Redemption

Lucian weakly put his hand up as his power returned. "So are you ready to tell me your name now?"Lucian asked with a few coughs here and there. "My name is Lucian."he said as the woman helped him to his feet.

The woman looked to the side with slight disgust. The boy was insistent that was for sure. And while she knew better than to divulge information, she also knew the boy wouldn't let her go if she didn't. So, sighing slightly, she turned for a moment and composed herself before turning back to him.

"Mariposa."

"Thank you. At least I can trust you to tell me that much."Lucian said coughing up a storm afterwards. "Now are you the one who caused those Dalchiorians to come down to the underground and shoot up the place?"Lucian asked staying close ready to freeze or paralyze her if necessary, to keep her from running off again.

"My party didn't enter from the Underground."

Mariposa turned back around, beginning to walk off in the direction they had came in. She hadn't any more to say to the mere child, there was nothing of importance to him. He needn't know why she was down here, and he certainly needn't get involved with her affairs. He was just an innocent boy who happened to get caught up in problems far bigger than he need be concerned with. If only he realized that.

"Then do you know who did cause those assholes to come to the underground and kill several innocent people?"Lucian asked following her. There was something about Mariposa that didn't seem right. It was as if she was hiding something or lying to him. Either way Lucian was going to find out no matter what she said. "I have no reason to go back to my home just yet so i'm coming with you."Lucian said hoping to find out whatever she was hiding.

At that point she turned to him, a blade unfamiliar to the mage flashing out in front of her. Her eyes sharpened on him, an eerie almost menacing look telling him to stop. Her fingers tightened around the crystal blade, her knuckles turning white. She wasn't going to let him come with her if she could help it. He didn't deserve to be in the situation she was in.

"Listen to me. Go home. I can't watch out for you and I don't want you getting hurt anymore than you already are."

"Hey I'm the one who practically saved your ass in the last two battles we teamed up in!"Lucian yelled angry over the fact she was treating him like Nami did Quinn. "Face it if I didn't help you, you would have been dead already."Lucian said hopping back pointing his ring at her. "I doubt you want to be frozen like the slimes and jellies we faced."Lucian said his anger starting to boil over. "Plus having a student of Archsage Alistair on your side isn't a chance you get every day."Lucian said hoping that would get her to consider the easy way.

Her eyes sharpened even more for a moment, but she paused and they faded, her blade returning to the sheath. She turned and began to walk again, not saying anymore as she went. Turning a corner, she wasn't going to give him an answer or permission or anything else he wanted. The fact was that she had to find her party and if he wanted to die along the way that was fine. She couldn't waste her time arguing with him any longer, the mission had to be completed.

Lucian followed taking her silence as a symbol of being content with his companionship. Frankly though Lucian wished for her to acknowledge at least that he was Alistair's student as Alistair was the only remaining archsage that knew where the ultimate spellbindings were hidden. But no conversation was started on the subject or any other. Sure Lucian would have preferred to talk while they traveled but did not risk irritating her to the point where he would have to run to barely keep up with her.

The duo continued to walk in silence, taking turns every now and again. There were a few times in which Mariposa stopped to think about her direction, but if she did it was only a short stop. She never stopped long enough to give her partner a break, and she didn't plan on it.

After what seemed like hours of walking, the two came to a large room with three bridge like platforms. On the other end, shadows could be faintly be seen, one masculine voice heard. At this Mariposa began to run, faster than usual, leaving the mage behind as she made her way over to the voice.

It was only when she made it to the middle did she stop. For the owner of the voice stopped talking and then he moved into the room. An older man, at least older than the duo, stared down the woman and further the young man.

"So your the intruders. Funny, I heard more of you, but I guess I was wrong."

Mariposa's hand went instinctively to her blade, ready to fight the somewhat menacing man none too far from her. He laughed at her, pulling out a blade of his own with a much more confident stance.

"So you want to play? Alright then."

However Lucian didn't need Mariposa's answer to know the obvious that whoever stood in there way was a Dalchiorian soldier, clearly of higher rank than the one he had killed in cold blood. But something was different about this one. Unlike the drunken asshole he had faced this man stood more elegantly and refined as though he was just sparring with an old friend. Snapping out of his thoughts Lucian prepared himself for the battle ahead.

Mariposa's fingers tightened around her blade as their opponent came closer. He could easily tear her apart and she knew it. But maybe, just maybe, she could ward off his wrath.
