Life's Redemption

"Because you're all I have left!"

A sudden rush of wind suddenly knocked Lucian back slightly, fully revealing the bandage. But the robes he wore, didn't fall back into place, rather they stayed suspended as they did with the wind. Nami walked over, a look of extreme disappointment evident on her face.

"And how can I possibly expect you to take care of Quinn if you get hurt? I don't want to lose either of you because you don't think ahead!"

For a second it was as if she was going to hit him, but Nami refrained and rather put a hand to the bandage. In seconds, a blue light shown from her hand, and the bandage fell away, revealing a nonexistent wound. With that the robes fell from suspension, and Nami's eyes softened.

"You are all I have left."

Lucian could only stare in shock. For a witch she was pretty soft considering she could possibly take care of hundreds of the Dalchiorian soldiers. At first Lucian could only stare into her eyes wondering wether she was going to cry or not. She definitely did seem like she was but yet not a single tear dropped. "Okay…"Lucian said looking down to the ground reminded of how devastated he was when the Dalchiorians carried away Alistair. He now saw what she was feeling and spoke up. "I'm sorry Nami."he said guilt in his voice.

Before Nami got a chance to say anything, the sound of a gun firing and screaming citizens were heard. Nami quickly ushered Lucian behind her and went to the door, opening it a crack to look out. She took a moment to take everything in before closing it, turning back to Lucian. Mouthing the words 'Stay put', she turned around and opened the door heading outside.

Lucian couldn't help but not listen to Nami this time. If there was gunfire there was bound to be two things. Danger and excitement. Opening the door slightly he watched Nami walk away. Without thought Lucian slowly opened the door walked out and closed it doing his best not to be found out by Nami as he followed ready to have a battle with something other than rats.

The sight that came to Lucian wasn't good. There stood one of many Dalchiorian Peace Corps. Soldiers, gun pointed at Nami, who was kneeling next to a dead body of a middle aged man. The soldier had his gun pointed at Nami now, his voice booming over the screaming and crying.

"Which one of you disgusting vermin broke into the Waterway? Tell me now and no one else has to get hurt!"

Lucian stared at the man anger in his eyes seeing the gun pointed at her head. However there was also a feeling of dread as the many spells he used in the Secret Place could have caused a connection to the water way and brought these soldiers here. Watching the officer cock his gun Lucian let his anger explode. "Get The Hell Away From Her You Dalchiorian Jackass!!!!" he shouted drawing there attention.

Nami's head turned in horror, her eyes wide and fearful as she noticed Lucian standing in direct view. He hadn't followed her orders and now they both would have to pay dearly. The soldier cocked his head to the side, and then pointed his gun at Lucian with utmost anger.

"So you're the street rat that tried to break in. For committing a crime against the nation of Dalchiore, you are herby sentenced to death."

At this Nami's eyes opened even more, frightened for the young man that was in her mind, her own. Turning her head to the soldier, she raised her voice for him to hear, knowing full well the consequence of her following actions.

"No! No... it wasn't him. He didn't do anything. I... I broke into the waterway. I'm the one you want."

The man looked back to Nami, his eyes sharpening angrily. He suddenly turned his gun back to Nami and fired, shooting her point blank. Her body ricocheted forward and then fell back her eyes wide open and losing color. More screams erupted, and the soldier pointed his gun at Lucian's feet, purposely missing his shots. With chaos induced he turned to leave, his purpose done.

"Nami!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"Lucian screamed running over to her. He gripped her lifeless hand crying hysterically. "No Nami don't die on me. You can't die on me. Please Nami speak to me."Lucian said the tears dropping to the hard stone ground as a crowd of people surrounded the boy. At the moment Lucian could only wish one of two things, either for her to not have said that she was the one who committed the crime or that Alistair was here to try and save her from death. But it was too late Nami's skin turned ice cold as her blood filled the street. Through the tears Lucian looked in the direction the soldier had gone in. "Giving the other people a look filled with hate he took off full speed through the crowd after the soldiers. Though his body grew tired as he ran after the battalion of officers he kept going if only to avenge Nami. As they came into view Lucian shouted through his sobbing. "Stop it right there you murderous Dalchiorian Fuckhole!!!!!!!!"he shouted throwing a dark red energy ball at the soldier who had killed Nami.

The soldier quickly turned, just barely dodging the energy ball that flew at him. His eyes sharpened and he cocked his gun once more. In his eyes, this boy was a goner, and the first couple shots would prove it.

"I hope I can freeze you in place here and shatter you."Lucian said as his ring's glow turned icy blue. Lucian screamed at the man shooting out the crystal blast hoping that like the rats he would freeze him.

"I'm not going to let you get out of this any time soon."Lucian said as he prepared another ice crystal to shoot at the frozen warrior. Looking at the fog Lucian could only hope that the guy would stay frozen hopefully keeping him from coming back to Quinn in a bloody mess.

With the soldier falling to pieces at last, Lucian was left alone with the chaos and mourning going on around him. The sobs and pleas for the lost souls to come back falling on deaf ears. However, one sob rang out over the others, one filled with disbelief and horror. A young voice that shouldn't have seen the death going on outside.

"Nami! Nami no!"

Of every scream that Lucian was hearing, Quinn's was one that stood out over the rest. Running back Lucian could only guess at what to do, what to say to the young boy. Pushing through the crowd Lucian saw Quinn kneeled over crying over Nami's lifeless body. Though he wanted to comfort the boy he could only stare at the two. Finally he spoke through a pained voice. "Quinn i'm sorry. She's dead..."he spoke his once hate filled eyes were now masked with sorrow.

"How could they do this? Why?"

Quinn looked up at Lucian with watery eyes as he tried to understand how Nami of all people could die. She was always so strong, like she couldn't be taken down ever. Yet here his friend lay, cold and dead with no way to possibly return from the cold icy grip death had one her.

"Why?!"

"That's what I'm going to find out."Lucian said turning his back to his friend. Though he wanted to tell Quinn that he had avenged Nami's death, Lucian did not speak. "Quinn bury Nami and don't follow me."Lucian said slowly walking away from the crowd. Turning to one of the members of the crowd he whispered. "Don't let him follow me."

At that point, Quinn didn't understand, but as he listened to Nami he wasn't about to listen to Lucian. But the man Lucian had whispered to held the child back at the pupil began to walk away. Disappearing into the shadows of the underground, it didn't take long for him to reach the Secret Place once again. However, this time upon entering he came to a large hole in the wall. Obviously whoever broke in got in after he and Quinn had left.

There was only one thing left to do now then. Head into the Waterway and see what was going on here.

Lucian was in deep thought as he looked into the hole that did lead to the water way. Who did this? Why? and Are they ready to pay for their actions? all of these question played through his mind as he walked through the new doorway, ring glowing brightly. Looking both ways only one had a trail of blood. "Whoever or whatever did this definitely doesn't have an eye for subtly."Lucian said narrowing his eyes as he followed the trail. The waterway was definitely one and it's own. Two narrow pathways divided by sewage water and filled with rat and bat droppings.

It only took a couple minutes for several rats to come into sight, however, there was an eerie feeling that that wasn't all that was around here.
