Nella visibly relaxed as Salem blocked the slime from getting anywhere near her. Even though it was just one left, she was still a little nervous about what it could do.

"Thanks Salem," she smiled, raising her talismans to attack the lone slime. "When this is over, we should take a break. I didn't expect these slimes to be so tough." Greens slimes were supposed to be some of the weakest creatures. If they had trouble with these guys, she felt somewhat afraid for the future ahead of them. And yet, underneath it all, there was excitement.

Salem lunged into the slime, digging his claws into the creature with as much strength as he could muster. "A break doesn't sound all that bad, really," he agreed, keeping his stance even, for he knew a counterattack was coming. The attacks of the creature were weak now individually, but they were really starting to stack up. Think I'll need a rest regardless, Salem thought miserably. This was what fighting real monsters was like? All he ever fought were trees and bushes. Some training that turned out to be.

The slime was almost dead but even if she were to help attack, it wouldn't be enough. Nella bit her lip, trying to think of a way she could help. Seeing all the cuts and bruises on her friend's body was really starting to depress her and she sincerely wished she could do something to ease his pain. Looking around, her blue eyes alighted upon some bushes nearby.

"Salem, I'm going to check if the bushes have berries," she informed quickly and dashed her way toward the nearest bush.

[Nella] moves to [F-2].

Crouching down, she reached in and began to search through the bush, looking for anything that seemed edible. "Grandpa always said to take whatever you can get because they will come in handy later," she murmured to herself, hoping she would find something. Even if it was only a little, it would help in the long run.

[Nella] activates Trigger Command: Search for Berries on [Bush F-3].

"That's fine. Berries would probably taste better than slime anyway," Salem remarked, content with the idea. He'd help search for berries as well, but he had a job to do already, and that was to keep this last slime at bay. He slashed away at it nonchalantly with his claws. Though his legs were a bit shaky, he held his ground and tried to play it off as if it were nothing.

"And the Scourge of Slime is still standing! What pathetic creatures you are!" he mocked the being in front of him, eyes flashing in triumph.

"I found some!" Nella exclaimed, holding up the blueberries in her hands. She laughed happily and then quickly stuffed them into her bag. They would need them for later. "I'm going to go look for some more!" Trusting Salem to take care of the slime, it just needed one last attack to die, Nella rushed over to the next bush.

[Nella] moves to [E-2].

Skidding to a stop by the bush, she fell to her knees and wasted no time in searching for more.

"Oh cool. Turned out there were some after all," Salem remarked, turning his head to look. He had eaten wild berries before. They were rather tasty. A lot better than the medicinal herbs some of the older folks came out to collect. Of course, having a decent knowledge about them while being in the wildnerness was a good idea. For now, he wouldn't worry about it despite being on the brink of passing out. With a deep breath, he finished the creature off with a final couple of slashes from his makeshift weapons.

Salem waits.

"Phew....glad that's over," he murmured to himself, eager to take a little break. All the walking and then the fight just served to tire him out.

Happily gathering the rest of the berries she had found, Nella turned just in time to see Salem finish off the last of the slimes. Her smile disappearing at the sight of all his injuries, the girl rushed over to her friend's side.

"Are you alright, Salem?" she inquired anxiously, hands seeming to grasp at air as she tried to figure out what she could do to ease his pain. "Here, come sit on this rock." She indicated a rather large stone on the side of the path a little ways past where the slimes had appeared from. It was big enough to be seated on. "We can take a break over there and eat some of the berries I found." Nella then paused and looked over the puddles of goo that were once slimes. "Actually, you should go rest while I see what I can find, okay?"

Letting out a deep sigh, Salem gladly obliged, taking a seat on the rock that Nella had pointed out. It felt good to be able to sit down after all of that activity. He spent a few moments catching his breath, something he didn't realize he had lost in the first place. "I'll be just fine. We won't make any progress without some rest first, though," he reassured her. He wasn't in life-threatening danger, but if they encountered more monsters now, he might be done for. A shiver crept down his spine, but his cloak hid it from being seen.

"Be careful gathering that stuff....there might be more nearby," he cautioned her, though he prayed there would be no more for the moment. In his condition, he questioned his ability to protect his vulnerable friend at the moment. Hopefully, it wouldn't come to such extreme circumstances.

As her friend went to sit down, Nella knelt down where the slimes died. She wrinkled her nose as the icky mess they had made upon their deaths but shook her head and pushed down her disgust. She couldn't be an adventurer if she couldn't even bring herself to touch stuff like this. It wasn't even as bad as some of the stuff her grandfather had described.

"Don't worry about me," she said, turning her head to smile reassuringly at Salem. "I'll be fine." Nella was about to continue to say he had worse injuries than her but then remembered how he got those injuries in the first place and closed her mouth. Guilt welling up in her chest, she turned away to search through the remains of the slimes. Most of it was goo but she was able to find some strange squishy orbs. Upon picking up a green cube, her blue eyes widened and a grin spread across her face.

"Look, Salem!" the girl exclaimed, scrambling to her feet and dashing over to the boy. She held up the item in her hand. "It's a green jelly! The ingredient that's used to make potions!" Nella admired it, ocean eyes sparkling. "When we get to the city, we'll learn how to make potions of our own. . . ."

Rubbing some of his sore muscles, Salem felt a bit bad for not helping out with the collection, but expending more energy now would only lead to him passing out as he thought he might have before. He pondered around the idea that he was too weak, but how would he get strong if he didn't fight? It was well worth it, and the fact that both he and Nella weren't stuck on the rock in complete pain and exhaustion was proof that he had done at least a decent job. He stopped with the serious thinking and put on a smile as his friend came running back holding a weird item.

"Oh, that's the thing you were talking about before," he said, a bit shocked. He hadn't expected to find things like that inside the slimes, but Nella really knew what she was talking about. He was impressed. "It'll be good if we can make our own potions with our own ingredients. It'll mean we won't have to spend money buying them from stores and such. And if we can make a small surplus, we might be able to sell some of our own, especially if we get good at potion-making," he rambled, surprised at the idea he had come up with. Of course, they were meant to be adventurers, but adventurers had to have money. That's when it came to him.

"Oh yeah. Monsters drop money too," he recalled. "I heard Mother speaking about how some monsters would pick up loose change and just carry it around with them because they liked the texture or the fact that it's sparkly."

Listening intently to Salem's word, Nella nodded in understanding and agreement. They couldn't be good adventurers if they were constantly in debt. They needed money to travel and to buy supplies. It would be best for them to sell what they didn't need then.

"Then I'll go check if they dropped any gold," Nella volunteered, seeing as her friend was still sore from their rough encounter against the slimes. About to get up and leave, she paused. During the battle, she had wished she could heal her friend's wounds with magic. What Nella was capable of wasn't exactly magic but more the manipulation of mana. But mana was needed for magic to be cast.

Maybe. . . .

Clutching her hands into fists, Nella raised her head in determination and took Salem's hands into her own. "I'm going to try something," she informed seriously, forcing her hands not to shake. If she messed up, her friend would be in more pain than he had felt from the attacks by the slimes. "Do you trust me?"

It made sense to scavenge the bodies for spare gold along with items as well, so he was going to let her take care of that before he was taken by surprise. He felt her hands grab his and he blushed madly before reclaiming his cool. She seemed pretty intent on trying what she wanted to try out. Whatever it was, it was bound to benefit him...if she could pull it off. But they had been friends for years. The question she asked, though merely a formality, was highly unnecessary. He fought back the urge to let out a small laugh since she was serious about the situation.

"Of course I trust you," the boy replied at last with a reassuring grin. He wasn't afraid at all. Nella might not be the strongest person around, but she was very good at what she did. All the connections with mana and the sort were things he couldn't understand. He had a deep respect for her on that level, at least.

His answer reassured her more than he could have possibly imagined. Visibly relaxing, Nella gave him a small smile brimming with happiness. She was always unsure of herself so it was a wonderful feeling to know someone believed in her. It was what gave her the determination to keep going, the determination to dream. Taking a deep breath, Nella slowly closed her eyes.

Having done this many times before, Nella gently reestablished her mana link with Salem. She had broken it when the battle ended. Now, came the hard part. If she were to force her mana through the link, she could potentially damage the boy's mana pathways and, in the most severe cases, kill him. The thought nearly made her lose concentration but she firmly grasped hold of it. She could do this. Salem believed in her. Remembering the lessons her grandfather had taught her, Nella began.

First, she had to make it so the mana she sent wasn't harmful. That was the easy part. The hard part was making it so the mana actually did something instead of just being mana. Carefully, she coaxed the mana into doing what she wanted. Once it was to her satisfaction, Nella carefully fed it through the link. After a moment, the girl opened her eyes to see the results of her work. The sight almost made her jump for joy and break the link, which would have been disastrous.

Right before her eyes, a blue glow surrounded the cuts and bruises caused by their battle against the slimes that littered Salem's body. The blood clotted and the skin itself began to knit itself back together. Swallowing hard, Nella continued the healing process until there were no more visible wounds. Finished, she released the breath she was holding and slumped her tense shoulders.

"That was a little nerve-wracking," the girl admitted, giving her friend a shaky smile.

Keeping his eyes steady on Nella, he watched her perform her work. He wasn't quite sure what she was up to yet, but it would definitely be interesting to see the results. She started by making the mana link again. That led to some questions he brushed aside for the moment. She seemed to be concentrating immensely. There were a few reactions Salem caught glimpse of from her, most seeming to be good ones, and of course, that's when he noticed that there was something happening to him. All of his wounds were beginning to close up, almost as if they had never existed in the first place. As Nella finished and broke the link, he marveled, looking at his arms, which had sustained the most damage. They were fine.

"You don't have to tell me that," he spoke softly before giving her a gentle hug, placing his chin on her shoulders. "You forget I can feel that anxiety when you make such a bond like that--it's more powerful than you know." Releasing her, he laughed nervously. "Well, you know...thanks and all that. I'm amazed, to be honest, but I knew you could pull it off, especially if you put your heart into it."

"Thanks Salem," Nella replied in response to his words, returning the hug he gave her. She was disappointed when he let her go but smiled to conceal it. "I have to do something for you after all you've done for me. The least I can do is make sure you're all patched up." Especially since he was so intent on protecting her. "I should go check if they dropped any gold."

Moving to stand up, Nella was surprised when her knees buckled under her and she nearly toppled to the floor. Grabbing hold of Salem just in case, she was forced to use his stronger body to steady himself. Genuinely confused, she glanced down in surprise at her body before slowly raising her head.

"I guess I used up more mana than I thought," she said with a laugh, skin paler than usual. Despite living in a seaside village, her skin had always the color of white sand. Now it had a greyish tinge to it, as if she were sick. "Looks like it's my turn to rest." But knowing her friend would be worried, she quickly explained, "Since they aren't physical wounds, I just have to wait and absorb mana from the air. I'll be fine in a few minutes, as long as I don't use my mana any time soon."

As Nella started to fall, she grabbed onto him, and he in return, took ahold of her to keep her steady. She didn't need to be doing any collecting for the moment. "A-as long as you're okay," he said, lowering her gently so that she could rest upon the rock as he had before. "I'll go take a look for the gold." Giving her a reassuring nod, Salem made his way over to the bodies of the deceased slimes. They definitely weren't a pleasure to look at, but Salem sucked it up and started hacking away at them with his claws, getting unnecessary goop out of the way. That's mainly all he encountered, for that was what the slimes were mostly comprised of, but as he dug in real good, there seemed to be gold near the ground.

Picking it up, he wiped some of the goop off of it with the glove portion of his weapons. "Seems like they pick it up as they roll along the ground," he remarked, making a theory, though it wasn't really relevant. The point was that they had it and they'd probably find more gold if they looked on monsters they defeated in the future. He walked back to Nella and showed her what he found. "Looks like we made a little money," the boy explained with a confident smile.

"Thank you, Salem," Nella smiled, swallowing the urge to apologize. She couldn't keep saying sorry whenever she felt like she did something wrong. Allowing the boy to set her down on the seat, she breathed out and closed her eyes. Calming herself, the girl began to feel around the air and gently coaxed the mana she found to become her own. She was surprised by just how low her reserves were. Any further and she would have fallen unconscious.

Nella opened her eyes and bit her lip, relieved it hadn't come to that. Though she felt Salem's safety was more important, she knew it would have just caused the boy even more trouble and Nella didn't want to stress him any further. The brunet was already doing enough. Nella smiled softly as she watched the boy pick up the coins and show her his findings.

"It'll make things easier for us when we get to the city," she murmured, carefully taking the coins from his hands and slipping it into a part of her bag where she put the money. The brunette then frowned, noticing something quite out-of-place. "Strange. . . I don't remember it being this bulky." Confused by the size of her bag, Nella began to sort out the stuff she had put in beforehand and her blue eyes widened at her findings.

Mouth parted in shock, the girl slowly pulled out some items that had definitely not been in there the last time she checked.

"Warding Charms!" she exclaimed, unable to stop herself. She put them down on the rock before pulling out something else. "And Grandpa's Special Smoked Fish!" Nella dug even further, intent on finding what other items her grandfather had put inside. Sure enough, she pulled out a piece of paper. Confused, she examined it. "It's a letter from Grandpa."

Dear Nella and Salem,

Think of these as gifts. As beginners, the journey may be rougher than you think. The warding charms will keep monsters at bay during the night so you may rest peacefully. The food, well, you can't very well be an adventurer on an empty stomach, now can you? I made enough to last you the rest of the trip to Rubidel. Make sure to portion them wisely. Also, don't forget to gather food from any source you can. Starvation is not a pleasant feeling.

Salem was a bit intrigued by the bag situation. How could it be larger than before...unless someone snuck something into it. The boy's eyes widened as he marveled at the things Nella produced from the bag, stuff that would be so useful. The charms would probably be a necessity. He hadn't even thought about what they'd do when they were forced to camp out. Then there was the food. Salem had many times before been lucky enough to experience the culinary genius of Grandpa Joe. His food was simple, yet full of flavor. He blushed a bit as his mouth started watering in response to remembering some of the vibrant tastes.

"A letter..." Salem didn't question as much as state. He listened to Nella read it out loud. "Looks like he was looking out for us until the very end. You've got a wonderful grandfather, Nella. I'll be happy when we can thank him properly by becoming famous adventurers." He grinned as he wondered about the Serenade guild. "That guild he mentioned...Serenade. Sounds pretty cool, if you ask me."

Wiping her eyes, she was crying so much lately, Nella delicately folded the paper and slipped it back into a special place in her bag, as if it were made of the most fragile material in the world. She eyed the fish for a moment before also putting that away along with the charms. As adventurers, they couldn't just eat whenever they wanted to.

"I rather like the name," Nella admitted, agreeing with the boy. "When we get to the city, let's ask around about it." She was now rather excited about reaching Rubidel and entering the guild her grandfather had been a part of. She clasped her hands together as she tried to imagine what sort of place it was. If it was the guild her grandfather had been a part of for so long, it was bound to be a wondrous place.

Something white flashed in the corner of her eyes and Nella blinked rapidly. Turning her head to see what it was, she gasped in surprised delight.

"Rabbits!" she almost squealed, gazing at them in awe. They were the purest white she had ever seen and were also fat and plump. She thought back to her grandfather's letter and pressed a hand to her mouth as the realization hit her.

Gather food from any source she could. . . Was this what he meant?

Nodding his head in agreement, Salem tilted his head as he realized Nella had noticed something he hadn't. Upon closer inspection, it came to be that there were rabbits in the area. Gazing at the expression upon Nella's face, he wasn't quite sure what she was thinking. He raised a finger, and was about to comment, but paused for a moment. He gazed at the rabbits again. "Nella, what do you think?" Salem asked her at last, shaking off his distracting thoughts. "Woodland creatures like these make for good food." Better than slimes, anyway. Slime soup, slime potions, slime anything. Yeah...no thanks. It was a shame they'd have to hurt something so harmless, but they had to have something good to eat. It was better for them to get used to this way of life now, at least until they were wealthy enough to buy rations in town to carry with them and were able to adequately plan for their adventures. He knew it would probably be quite erratic like it was now for a long while.

"Huh?" Nella snapped her head toward her friend as his inquiry, having been daydreaming about all the different sorts of food they could make with rabbit meat. She realized she was drooling a bit and blushed, wiping the corner of her mouth discreetly. She had never eaten rabbit meat before and had always wondered what they tasted like.

"Y-yeah, it sounds like a good idea," the brunette agreed while nodding her head. "If we can skin them right, we can also make use of their pelts for making clothing." It wouldn't be very durable but it was better than nothing. "But rabbits are easily frightened so we'll have to be really quick and quiet." Nella could be quiet but quickness really wasn't her thing. "Do you think you can catch them on your own? I. . . ." She trailed off, eyes searching for something she could do. They soon landed on some bushes and plants lining the path. "I'll see what other things I can dig up."

"Of course I can handle them," Salem replied confidently, readying himself to catch some rabbits. "I've never really done this before, but I'll just let the natural predator in me take over. We'll see how long these little guys last." Things were definitely bound to get interesting. If he let himself get outdone by rabbits, he'd definitely have to reconsider becoming an adventurer. It would be a devastating loss. Okay, maybe it's not that dramatic. But we could definitely use the extra food. I've got to do this and do it right, he lectured himself mentally, preparing for the task at hand.

"Just be careful while you're digging," Salem warned his friend. "We still don't know what could be lurking around here."

Location: Outside of the Fishing Village Azule

Objective: Get that meat! >:3 And some other stuff while you're at it.
Tip: Animals that can be hunted will be colored orange. Be careful not to startle them, they run when you get within 3 Cells of their location. And don't think you'll only have to deal with animals the next time you go hunting. Some of them aren't very harmless . . . Ohohohohoho.

"Right," Nella nodded. She really didn't want to be ambushed again.

Seeing a bush not too far from the stone she had been sitting on, Nella cautiously made her way to it. She didn't want to startle the rabbits and make it harder on Salem to catch them. She really did wish she could help him with the hunt but she would only get in the way. As usual. The thought made her sigh. Still, it wasn't like she couldn't grow. Once this was over, she was definitely going to think of a way to help Salem fight off anything that came at them.

Luckily for her, it didn't seem like the rabbits noticed her. Still keeping one eyes on the small animals, she began to rummage through the bush. More berries would be helpful in the long run. The plants looked like they could be of use as well. Her grandfather had once told her about herbs that grew just about anywhere.

As Nella went off to do her thing, Salem ventured off to do his. Taking a deep breath, he calmed his body. There was no point in trying to sneak up to them. He would have to lunge at them with his agility, felling them with a single attack. He'd have to do so obscurely though. He recalled reading a book about a swordsman who liked to yell at his enemies before jumping into battles. Oh yeah. That guy was an idiot, Salem thought before dashing through the grass, light on his feet and barely making a sound.

Salem moves to H4.

"Mmm. Dinner," he said quietly, jabbing the creature with one claw quickly so he wouldn't hesitate. Once he had stabbed it once, there was no point in letting it live any longer, for it would only be living in pain. Another quick blow and he ended the little woodland creature.

Salem attacks Dinner! 2 hits! 6 Dmg per hit! (ATK)

Prey Phase 1

Oblivious to the death of their comrade, the rabbits continued to leisurely hop around and sniff at the surrounding vegetation. Two of them stopped and nibbled idly at the grass along the path while the last of them began to doze off on said path. The sun was high in the sky and shining down nicely on them, giving them the perfect sunbath. They wouldn't be moving anytime soon.

Rabbit waits.

It was blackberries this time. Nella grinned, happy. It was nice to find some variety, they couldn't just snack on blueberries whenever they wanted something sweet. Quickly adding them to the blueberries she had in her bag, Nella searched for her next target. It seemed Salem had already caught one of the rabbits and she quietly clapped her hands together in excitement. Soon, they would have rabbit meat for lunch.

With the nearest rabbit gone, Nella didn't have to worry about startling it, which would have caused the rest of them to run off. It seemed none of them had noticed Salem kill the rabbit, which was all good for them. Quickly searching the ground, her eyes shined as they locked onto something useful.
